    Variax is the uniquely flexibile guitar from Line 6. Our Vetta II amplifier includes a digital connection for the Variax that lets you store settings for both your amp and your guitar in the Vetta II so that when you call up a Vetta Channel Memory your amp and guitar can change sounds together. Vetta II Tones marked with this guitar symbol include this Variax data.

    For each tone in the library, you'll see an icon for either a single coil or humbucker pickup. This tells you whether the tone is best for use with a single coil pickup or a humbucker, so you can select the appropriate pickup on your guitar when using this tone.

    Attention POD 2.0, Flextone and HD147 owners... Your hardware doesn't do Stomp effects, so you'll hear something different than what was intended. Try increasing the Drive or choose a higher gain Amp Model to get the right sound. The other aspects of the sound should translate as expected, so you'll at least get a great starting place for tweaking.

    While I think this is a decent starting point, more experienced Helix programmers can probably "dress it up" with adjustments to make it even better. Please note that I used an acoustic IR for the "jangly" intro part and built it while playing the piezo pickup from my Parker Fly Deluxe. For the majority of the song's heavier sounds, I switched to the Parker's electric pickups. The primary switch between the piezo and the electric pickups is done with an A/B switch in the chain activated/deactivated with button number 8 (although the acoustic jangly sound is not used a lot). I did put the same chorus pedal in the heavy guitar signal path to use when needed. One last thing, the Drop D tuning is not a problem, but as I do not have Steve Vai length fingers, the little movement in the intro pattern using your ring and pinky fingers from the "E" to the "F" position (222452 > 222562 and back) was nearly impossible for me to reach. I settled for just hitting the xxx56x to get the tone change, but.... I also found that this part can be achieved very easily by an version of an open D tuning as follows: DADADD This tuning allows you to make both the E and the "F" chords - 222222 > 222333 (or 22233x or even 222332). Since Adam Jones tends favor the lower strings, and these do not come into play frequently in this song AND when they do, they can fairly easily be adjusted for this tuning, this makes the song for me much more comfortable to hit these chords.
