  1. Sadly Silverhead, I suspect that your assessment is spot on... I will just need to save up a few more "pennies" for the upgrade.
  2. Thank you for the feedback MGW. I am hoping that with the popularity of the Helix, maybe Line6 will not be in a rush to kill of this device in favor of whatever newer model the engineers may come up with. I had gotten my HD500x just as the Helix hit the market, and now Line6 has discontinued it. It would be a sin to "orphan" another pedalboard. I hope that your new Mac with the M1 or M2 chip works as well also...!
  3. Greetings all, I currently use a POD HD500x, on a 2012 MacPro, running macOS Mojave. The Edit software works provided that I run Line6 Monkey every time I want to use it. I have to reinstall the drivers each time. I never could get the software to run on macOS Catalina at all. Does the software for the Helix run better on macOS than the 500x software. I am considering selling the 500x in favor of a Helix just to avoid the frustration factor. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you, mike
  4. Greetings Fabistangelo, I had just posted a related question in this forum. I am trying to find out if there is better software support for the Helix than there seems to be for the HD500x. The 500x is now an "orphaned" product. I got mine just as the Helix made its' debut, so the pricing had been reduced at that time. I am currently running macOS Mojave on my 2012 MacPro, and I can get it to run the HDEdit software only by running LineMonkey every time I want to use it, and reinstalling the drivers. I also have a 2nd MacPro with macOS Catalina, in which the Edit software will not work at all. Out of frustration, I am now considering selling the 500x in favor of the Helix. I wish I had a solution myself for the software, because that would help us both. I have not tried the software for Windows computers yet, because I have done all of my recording on Logic (buy once, and no subscription fees), so I am reluctant to look for new recording software for Windows.
  5. Thanks for the replies PaulTBaker & Pianoguyy. I will take a look through the Helix forums and see what the current users have to say. I like the 500x, but am tired of fighting with the software for it. Product support for orphaned gear is not easily found. Thank you!
  6. Greetings all... I am just wondering if anyone has ditched their HD-500x in favor of the Helix. Getting my HD Edit software to work correctly on MacOS Mojave is a tedious process that involves reinstalling the Drivers every time that I want to use my 500x. I cannot get it to run at all on macOS Catalina. Does Line 6 support the Helix better than they are supporting the HD-500x? I have not gone to the Windows version of the HD Software because I record using Logic, a Mac-only software recording program. I would love to hear from anyone who has made the change to Helix. Thanks, Mike
  7. Greetings all, This problem is regarding my POD HD500x. I have to upgrade the drivers via Line6 Monkey every time I want to use it. I am running Mac OS Mojave, and record in Logic Pro X. Neither the Mac sound manager, Logic, or POD HD500x Edit app recognize the 500x when I plug it in. I then go to Line 6 Monkey, update the drivers, and reboot. The POD gets recognized after then. The problem is that once I unplug the 500x from the computer, I have to go through the whole process again the next time I want to play. For some reason, the driver updates do not get saved in my computer. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks
  8. Greetings all, I am at a complete loss right now as to how I can configure my HD500x to make use of MIDI controls in Logic Pro X. In the Menu bar, I go to: Logic Pro X/Control Surfaces/Setup. The Control Surfaces screen opens, and only shows my iPad Pro that I use for the Logic Remote app. For the Device tab, it reads "NO DEVICE." I then go to the New tab, and select "Scan All Models." This opens up a window that lists in alphabetical order, various Manufacturers & Models of choices. Some are italicized meaning that they are not available. Nowhere in this list is the name Line 6. There are several listings for Yamaha though. Is it possible that the HD500x has incorporated a Yamaha Controller? Does anyone know the name of the Line 6 controller, or another control surface that will work with the HD500x? I have run Line 6 Monkey, and all of my Line 6 software is up to date. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you, mike
  9. Greetings Captain, I bought my V-Standard online from Sweetwater. Mine was new, and it did have the foam packing in the box. I was however, disappointed in the packaging that Line6 ships these in. The only other guitar that I purchased new was a 1971 Fender Stratocaster that shipped in the Fender case. Line6/Yamaha would do much better to sell a guitar/case package that would eliminate these worries. In your particular instance, I would suspect that once your Standard was repackaged by the seller, they had not kept the original packing when it was on a store floor. Don't let the sellers issue keep you from enjoying your Variax. I am loving mine. PS: Don DeLuise was great as Captain Chaos!
  10. Greetings, I purchased a case made by Gator. It is the model GLElec, and I purchased it from Sweetwater for $89.99. It is NOT a hard-shell case, but it is a bit sturdier than just a gig-bag. I don't travel with it, just for keeping it safe at home, but it suits my Variax Standard just fine. Here's the link for where I bought mine: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GLElec Hope this helps!
  11. Greetings all, I've just received my Line 6 Variax Power Supply A/B switch. A question I have for experienced users is... "Is it better to remove the battery from the Variax if most usage will be from the power supply? Or does it not matter for battery maintenance...? " Many thanks... mike
  12. Greetings Mrkgtr49, I hope you are enjoying your VX Standard as much as I am. Sounds like you got right into it too! Never had the chance to play in a band myself... just play for my own relaxation, but the Variax fulfills a lot of sounds for me.
  13. I've only had my Variax Standard for less than two weeks, and to me, the neck reminds me of a 1971 Fender Stratocaster I once had a long time ago, in a galaxy far away (before children). The neck radius was smaller on the Strat I had. I haven't owned a Strat since about 1981, so I can't speak to current models. Regarding the neck on the Standard, I like it! I also like the satin finish on the Variax neck. I did change out the factory installed strings to my long time favorites, DR Strings Pure Blues 10-46. Just changing the strings made the neck feel entirely different to my hand. So far, the electronics seem to be working perfectly, and my only concern right now is to try to figure out how to eliminate a warbling sound on the acoustic 12-string models. I've read something about it on these forums, but have to dig deeper to find if anyone has found a cure. I've no regrets about this guitar, and expect to be keeping it for a long time.
  14. I found my new toy delivered when I got home from work this evening! And I have the house to myself all afternoon tomorrow! Playtime....! :) :) :)
  15. Thanks for the tips! It makes sense that you would hear the strings directly from the guitar to the ear while in alternate tunings. I've been mostly playing direct to my Mac Pro via the Line 6 Toneport GX, and Logic. I will use headphones when trying to record, or else just turn the amp up loud! I am so looking forward to this! Thank you for all your replies. mike
