If you are using Windows 10 or 11 then turning off the pod while you have software with an open pipe(connection) to it it will crash the computer every time. Any x64 machine will cause this issue. These pods are legacy devices and were designed to interface with older operating systems. The driver file makes calls to older functions and requires not just exclusive access to the pod, it requires that a specific function call be made from Edit or Monkey, or any software to disconnect and close the pipe before the pod is disconnected or turned off. Because of the way newer operating systems poll usb ports and allocate memory for them, if the pod is turned off before the pipe is closed you get a memory violation and BSOD. Running the applications in Legacy mode makes no difference. The Pod HD PRO is a great device, but is past end-of-life. If using it with Window 10, 11 or any 64-bit operating system, always: 1) Close any connected application before disconnecting or turning off the pod; 2) Always plug it into the same usb port on your computer. Otherwise you get "ghosting"(multiple copies) in device manager and that will cause additional errors; 3) Don't use it as a sound card for recording. Instead use an external sound card like something from PreSonus, Focusrite and line in to it from the pod. I use the XLR connections to line into a little Behringer Q1202 mixer, using the ASIO4ALL driver and it works great. -Best of Luck, -S

I'm guessing that you are using Windows 10. What build number is it? Are you using both a midi foot controller like the FBV Mark II shortboard and Edit at the same time? Do you always plug the pod HD into the same usb port every time or does it share that port with any other device. Like unplugging the pod so that you can plug another audio device or thumb drive, etc.? Is it connected to an external hub? Do you plug it into a usb port on the front or the back of the computer? Are you using the USB cable that came with the pod or are you using a new/different one? Are you using an usb extension cable? Do you make constant changes to patches in Edit, and save each one as you make them, or do you wait to save them to the pod after several changes? The entire eeprom on any Line6 device, anyone's fx/amp modelers, actual code and saved settings is smaller in file size than most office word documents. So, I doubt that plays any role. However, all in the the first paragraph above are quite capable of causing all of your problems. Best of luck and I hope that you find your answer, -mus1prod

It's possible that just the input jack is damaged, unsoldered from the board, something. As for why the display and buttons would light up, I wrote that in my last response. I wish that I could help you more, but at this point, without having the POD in front of me, my troubleshooting skills are at an end. However, what I can suggest, is that you look in the forums for someone who has had the same problem as yours. This thread was about not being able to get FUNCTIONING POD HD300 to properly install on WINDOWS machines, not about PODS with no guitar output. I would also suggest asking those, with the SAME issue as you, where they purchased their PODs from. I have noticed an unusual amount of people with damaged PODs that were purchased in Asia & Australia. Good Luck.

rurdirudirudi, I hate to say this, but it really does sound like the unit is "bricked"(dead). You say that you get audio out from plugging into the mp3 jack, but are not getting ANY guitar out of ANY of the outputs; and it will not connect to the computer. That leads me to believe that the main board is dead. The mp3 input goes, basically, through a power amp circuit( I think) straight to output. There is no separate channel amplification, or other circuitry involved. Whereas, the guitar goes from input -> analog-to-digital converter -> preamp -> power amp -> digital-to-analog converter. That is where I believe your issue to be. Good Luck, S

sonoio666, The Line 6 usb drivers are NOT compatible with Mac OS 10.11 El Capitan. Your options are either: go back to previous version of os all-together; or place the older version of the os and el capitan on seperate partitions.

Ok, when you say that there "isn't any output from the guitar" do you mean that it just isn't playing out through the computer, or there is no guitar output through the XLR, phono, or headphone jacks? If it's JUST not playing out through the computer, then I would try the following: 1)try a different, known-good usb cable; 2)depending on the version of Windows that you are running there are steps for uninstalling and reinstalling all usb ports through device manager, rebooting and letting Windows reinstall them, THEN reinstalling POD; 3)and of course restoring the POD to factory defaults. If you aren't hearing the guitar out of ANY of the outputs, AND you've tried more than one guitar/or you've tried one guitar that plays through other amps, but not the POD, AND you've tried different patch cables, AND you have scrolled the the POD's onboard menu and made sure that you selected the correct output, there are two possibilities that come to mind: 1)Your upgrade to the firmware was unsuccessful, try to restore to factory defaults; 2) You bricked the ADAC and/or amplifier circuitry, which would account for anything plugged into the mp3 jack to be heard, but not the guitar input.

rudirudirudi, It reads like you have a very different problem. Is it just that your computer won't recognize the POD, or is there absolutely no sound coming out when you play your guitar through it? Does the LED panel light up when it's on?

leehojin0711, Unfortunately, I think you are correct. I was hoping that it was a Windows issue(most of the time it is). I have noticed a lot more posts online about the HD500 having damaged usb ports. Well, if it's still under warranty, open a trouble ticket with Line 6 to have them repair it or exchange it for a new one. If it's not under warranty, this site has a lot of good info. on parts and replacements: http://www.fullcompass.com/brand.php?brand_id=LN6&rewrite_name=Replacement-Service-Parts&query=POD+HD500 Best of luck!

Out of curiosity, did you check to see if the master volume on the back is turned all the way down?

Chances are, it's a corrupt default.cfg file. Try this first: Close any open Line 6 programs. Then delete the contents of this directory: C:\Users\username\Application Data\Line 6\Line 6 Monkey if that doesn't work, then try this: (You'll need to have administrative rights on your computer) 2)open a command prompt and type (without the quotes) "netsh interface ip delete arpcache" then hit the enter key. If neither one of those works, you could always try changing the ip addresses of the DNS servers that you are using. My first bet would be the corrupt .cfg file

Jeremy, The issue of unplugging usb devices without ejecting/unmounting them in windows was done away with in Windows 7. Even if it was still a problem, that would normally just impact flash cards and usb drives/ipods(things with accessable storage). Now, I think this should work, but it involves a lot of steps, so you may want to print this out: *Make a backup of your system, or important settings, and if you have tones saved to your computer. Shouldn't be a problem, but I always recommend doing a backup before troubleshooting. 1) Make sure that you are using an account that has Administrative privilages and, if possible, that the account has full read-write permissions in the registry. 2) Make sure that the following services are enabled: Windows Installer, Windows Modules Installer, UPnP Device Host, and Plug and Play. 3) Make sure that you have the ORIGINAL installation software that was used when you first installed the PODHD500 and it worked. 4) Look for the following files on your computer, making note of where they are originally located: ksthunk.sys, L6PODHD###.sys( the '#' represents version number of the driver. for example L6PODHD564.sys) portcls.sys L6podhd5_x64.dll L6podhd5.dll copy these files to a folder on your hard drive, where Windows won't automatically look for drivers. Like C:\podbak 5) Open the registry using regedit. Making sure that the computer icon at the very top is what is highlighted, left click on "File", then "Export" to save a copy of the entire registry. 6) Making sure that NOTHING is plugged into any usb port, use the Line6 uninstaller, or through "Programs and Features" in Control Panel, uninstall everything related to the PODHD install. Yours may just list the Line6 Uninstaller, but if it lists Line6 EDIT and Monkey, uninstall those as well. 7) Reboot your computer. 8) Go into device manager and uninstall EVERYTHING listed in "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". (Windows should reinstall the correct ones on reboot). 9) Reboot your computer. 10) Go back to where you ORIGINALLY found the five driver files, listed above, and delete them(remember, you made backups of those files). 11) Delete the "Line6" folder from the Program Files directory. 12) Go back into the registry and delete the keys related to the PODHD500. Look under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. There may still be one or two keys labeled "PODHD500Edit.PODHD500Bundle" and "PODHD500Edit.PODHD500Patch" *Note that Line6 Edit is the SAME for all PODHDs, so it MAY say "PODHD300". Also, if it's still there in the registry after having uninstalled it through Control Panel, delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Line6. Since you are using 64-bit, it may be somewhere else(I don't have a 64-bit machine where I'm at right now, so I'm not sure about all your registry settings). 13) Reboot your computer. 14) Make sure that your PODHD500 is turned on but NOT plugged into a usb port on your computer; make sure nothing is plugged into a usb port. Run the Line6 installation software that you ORIGINALLY used to install the POD when it worked. 15) When the installer prompts you to connect the device, make sure to plug it into a USB 2 port (NOT a USB 3). For best results, plug it into the usb port that you FIRST used with the original install. Again, this SHOULD work. Just remember the specific port that you plugged the POD into upon successful install.Because, you will want to ONLY use THAT port for the PODHD500. DO NOT plug ANYTHING else into that port, and don't plug the POD into any of the others. Techinically, all of the usb ports on your laptop are part of a hub. Line6 products must have exclusive association with a usb's assigned address. This is why Line6 tells you not to use a usb hub. Best of luck

leehjin0711, I've never used the HD500 before, but I can get access to one. I've been doing tech. support for 20 years and am pretty good at troubleshooting stuff like this with a bit more information. If you could specify the version of Windows that you are using, any specific error messages about unknown device, maybe a screenshot of device manager that would help. From reading the manuals, I can tell you that the HD500 doesn't use midi-over-usb. So, chances are that you're problem is being caused by something else. The obvious things to consider are: proper usb cable(not all usb cables are equal); make sure that you are plugging it into a USB 2.0 port on your computer; and make sure that the usb port is NOT part of a hub. *NOTE: pretty much every desktop computer, these days, has usb ports on the front of the computer for easy-access. The problem with that, is that they are usually part of an onboard hub on the motherboard. I've noticed that the only way to use the POD HD series in this situation is to NEVER plug anything else into those ports; not even a usb thumbdrive. It's always best to connect a POD to usb port on the back of a computer. If the internal sound card on your computer has midi in-out DINs, using MIDI cables to send sysex commands from software MAY be useful, but doubtful. AGAIN, if you could specify the exact problem, how you're connecting the POD to your computer, version of Windows, and most useful would be a screenshot of the device manager(specifically, anything listed as "unknown device" and universal serial bus controllers) I would have a better chance at solving your problem. I, sadly, enjoy solving these types of problems. :D So, if you want post the info., I'd be happy to dig deeper and find a solution for you. Sonny

tomerd, That is a driver stack error. Normally, I would say make sure that the chipset drivers for your motherboard are up to date(ie. for usb, firewire, video, anything that is on-board) but the biggest culprit is usually the video driver. You can double-check the error here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com Just make sure that all your chipset drivers are up to date, as well as any applicable service packs that Microsoft has made available.
