  1. So, would using an XLR 2-1 adapter get the same results as a single 1/4mono out?
  2. but it is still technically "half the signal" through the XLR because the XLR is always split into left and right >>> I am starting to believe that this "half" issue is sort of being mismanaged and explained poorly to a new user. Think about your headphones --- you have one left and one right. If you run your pan at 0, there is no left/right separation in tone. But you still have a volume difference if you, as example, are only listening through only one side. That is sort of what XLR is doing. XLR is always split into two separate signals, the same as headphones are always split into to signals. --------------------------------- That actually explains it....ahhhh....gotcha.
  3. Okay, another scenario.....**What if** I send 1/4 out(assuming summed to mono) to my EV ZLX12P and give the sound guy the out/thru of that?? Would it be the same result if I send XLR L/R the same way? What if 1x XLR? **side concern** regarding going thru the EV, would raising the master on the EV also raise the signal sent to FOH/sound guy??
  4. What if it's panned L-0% and R-0% (and 0.0db) does each XLR still only get half signal?
  5. Do you / anyone suggest dialing the pods master volume to 100% to achieve best sound/ noise ratio + better tone?(**when going studio direct/xlr out to FOH / PA**) Is that a real thing?
  6. True, I see the (obvious) point, but unsure if panning 100% is a "more clear" or "direct" signal or vice versa.
  7. SO, I'm running a PV panama amp model, w/ no stereo effects juts OD, Flange/Gate/OD >amp/cab > reverb/delay Out **im satisfied w my tone!** I want only XLRs being used, L > FOH R> powered speaker (EV ZLX12P) Main concern is, should I waste my time with panning and percentages or just go center/ center 0% 0% ??!?? Would love to hear your opinions and pros/cons you may foresee or even have experience with!
  8. I run L xlr to PA (sound guy) and R xlr to powered monitor. All patches are mono - amp/ cab sims / fx - I pan L to 0% (center) 0.0db and R to 100% 0.0. I run just the powered monitor, no IEMs, and I have amazing results and haven't used an amp live on over 2 1/2 years. It's fantastic. Only debate is if I should just run both sides at 0% 0.0 and both signals can be altered as needed by personal monitor or FOH
  9. Okay, well I am aware of the adjusting to room dynamics and dealing w sound guys-letting them "do their job"-- but maybe it's the sound guys that make every show / room have something that just isn't right w the sound and make them thin or too boomy---or maybe it's the patches I have. I can search for days on Google or YouTube, and I have, and THAt is why I am coming to an actual Line6 forum, to get some "free tips" on how to compensate for the issues we all face when playing live, not to mention more pleasurable for the audiences if the guitars don't sound like harsh static. To re phrase , maybe I'm looking for some tips on where to even start Hi and Low cuts and pass filters. A broad idea of where the guitar generally sits would help get me on the right path. Or maybe even more so, StAy on the right path and w some slight tweaking I'll be even more satisfied.
  10. I have been using my HD500 thru a Crown XLS1000 into a custom 2x12 for 2 years now, I love it. Any tone- any time. The 2x12 has a Mesa black shadow and Celestion Lead 80 and it's decent sounding imo, used to run a Mesa Mark IV and 5150II head thru same cab and created tones similar enough that I don't have to lug around the expensive heads and get close enough tones for live/ road use. BUT I'm very much on the verge of going w a FRFR monitor instead , the sound is just cleaner and I think it's more efficient and effective than trying to compensate for or even color the existing tone(using a 2x12) - just some advice. I have done the 4x12 thing, the 2x12 thing, the Direct thing, and the cable method of my HD500 adding fx AND switching the channels on my 2 amp heads simultaneously. While that was my favorite sound, no doubt, lugging around that valuable and financially unreplacable equipment was just getting tiresome. I am very pleased w the direct / FOH sound actually, its dialed in great. But anyway, I recommend considering ditching the cab/power amp route w these units and just go direct to FOH w a FRFR on stage as a monitor.
  11. Been using the HD500 for about 2 years now FOH and actually been happy(due to endless and countless hours of tweaking and A/B'ing) but withOUT using the global EQ. Just recently started tweaking with it and gotta say, I've been missing out!!! It's a breath of fresh air to the tones. I'm curios as to what are maybe "common" or "appropriate" settings for a rock/metal guitar tone. Though I use many cleans as well, the main is Distortion. Do any of you sound engineer based guys have any tips or even suggented settings I can try as far as adjusting the Global EQ to make it sound MoRe like a "real" guitar amp sound??! And note, this for fitting in a live band mix (2x guitars, bass, drums, vocals) Thanks!
