Ok thats weird...I did a search of 'sysex' first and no results Hmm sure if thats what they think...i guess we are only the consumers. Well actually Im not interested in doing sysex if there was another elegant way of doing it tbh. I want to make use of the scribble strips; when I am communicating to eg a mixer or other device, I can generally use OSC which is a lot easier to navigate...but um...Helix and most users I accept arent on that page but surely there could be a little edit function where you can simply import a compliant B&W icon and let line6 handle the magic. I dont mean to be skeptical but this is my experience so far Purchase helix second hand from the original purchaser who has never used the mic but fails when we plug a mic in and turn the phantom on. The chips are on back order and will be another 6 weeks before I can even get the parts to fix it I bring the the helix home and spend 3 hours recreating some basic patches and I save the presets etc but no to HD thinking hardware is bullet proof and Ive never had a fail with the HD500 BUT I reboot the helix as the usb port seemed a little flakey ie I reset The helix freezes and despite spending a fair bit of time its obvious I have to reset and recreate the patches...3 hours of my life gone...I have better things to do than this and 1 after another, shortfalls and workarounds. Integrating USB is pretty clunky when I simply want to use it as an elegant fx loop USB audio driver has high latency is intermittently unstable and causes BSOD. Have switched to asio4all/Helix and seems to be ok now and round trip latency down to acceptable 6ms So I think...yay at least its got all this great feedback for custom ui/ux satisfaction...access denied Looking like mini pc and native etc really is the only way out of this... Appreciate your help DC

If you ever want to sell it? :-) I think might be a lot easier to use something like that and ditch the helix...ie Native/hosted in Live/midi guitar in Live etc

Hey! to provide some background but just using as a single io driver instead of Helix Asio My Live daw/lappy is completely stripped out ie no bloatware, minimal services band usual peformance tweaks (i7 8 core old lappy) When I use Asio4All, its extremely rare that I get a crash with these settings To get similar performance use Helix, its between 12-16ms (hard to get stable comparisons) and I occasionally get BSOD (ie this morning when I was testing for USB performance/IO) Anyway...works for me...mileage obviously varies

Not sure what Im doing wrong here The manual states USB 7&8 are hardwired to Git and Mic in as far as I can tell or does this indicate Aux does not get a channel? I setup a test project USB 1&2 = Processed Helix Usb 7 = Git/Aux? Usb 8 = Mic USB 1&2 = No probs If I plug guitar > guitar in, then I get input on 7 = correct If I plug guitar > Aux in, then I get NO input on 7 and NO input on 8 = incorrect?? Does that mean I have use another path simply to process the aux? Yes I use both all the time; elec into guitar and classical into Aux, Acoustic into mic which is of course blown...so am waiting for that but cant test atm Any help greatly appreciated

Hi All I have had to resort to using external midi to manage helix atm...I use a mini pc for ext midi guitar synth so after not being able stuff going for switching on board eg gesturing as well...send midi out to processor eg Bome and then sending back in seems to be a workaround. This way I can also get multi state buttons etc too So If that is going to really work well...it needs to write back to the scribble strips; can anyone point me as to resources for that? I have done it before eg writing back to Mackie Control display for the same reasons Any help greatly appreciated

I understand...its funny as its always worked well in the case I mentioned ie NOT 2 multiple IOs...to the point that for live, I often run the helix > asio4all because the latency is sooo much better and I find the helix or HD drivers just randomly crash. I get what you are saying...but it works for me...sorry to hear you had issues. Im about to change my 'insert box' ie pc to an i7 mini pc so will be interesting to see how that goes. Silicon...anything is possible...I tried and tried with ipad and had nothing but issues so I gave up yet others still swear by them. I does run onsong nicely and thats the only job it gets now :-\ Cheers

LOL...thats funny. Yeah I get it...Ive gone the other way and use to be almost exclusively in the studio...now its a balance of the 2 with a lot of nice peeps I hang with but more than that, the live play informs me of a finished and playable song, start to finish, which seems to really capture something but also rationalises and simplifies what I can do instead of a never ending production value...especially after binge watching 'minimalism' doco All the best...

The counterpart on PC (ie aggegation) is to simply use ASIO for all and you connect both devices Both ios/mac and pc suffer the same drawbacks using aggregation eg increased latency as the kernel needs arbitrate the usb bus Asio4All for all seems to work better when its a multi IO paired with a stereo in on another device HTH

You can just stick a felt/hard rubber pad(s) on top of the actual button which makes it a lot easier to trigger :-) Just adjust the thickness to suit

Cheers Yeah snapshots is blessing/curse deal. Im using it with the hold function from command centre and the quick press calls the default snapshot, the hold action calls the deeper level ie slight verb vs deep verb and so on which seems to make it a lot easier...but its a far cry from multi state ie cycle though 3 states of the snapshots and double click calls default etc. A simple 2 S/S preset could feed into the looper on snap 1, and give you the straight through path on snap 2. How much more complex does it need to be? Yep thats the issue, once you assign the ss, you lock all the snapshot assigned parameters into that ie you cant turn them on/off per snapshot but more than that, the very nature of the way the looper is used is fully related to the toe switch...just seems quite lame to assign it to a fs when the exp2 trigger is the key. The snapshots always occupy (by choice) the top row but they are limiting in many ways as it hardwires the pararmeters so that means they have to be set for each snapshot where some need to be stomp type. Anyway, the toe would have been perfect but I guess I just have to workaround it... RE: Send...Yeah the send depends on who/where Im playing. If Im at a larger gig, the send goes to FOH for a separate out for the looper where my mix engineer has more control vs small intimate gigs where I just feed it back into the path. I also get a feed back from the FOH into Live and am setting up the lower row of FS to control Live One thing I would like to do but havent worked out is... I would like to have a usb send at the currently selected block in the image so that I have a dry/compressed/eq feed to go into midi guitar in the Live computer. I realise 7&8 are di channels but I would like to trim and compress a bit. Just seems very logical that a send should also be able to route usb and be consistent with the rest of operations ie send/usb as output 'jacks'

I use the same gestures for all my hardware...I do remote scripts for live for OEM music mfg...they get it too. I dont use any max at all anymore although I programmed that for a while. Push 2 was the first to have legato and I had already been using it for quite a while as it was in the Live Object Model...although I didnt understand what legato was in a Live context... It (our music) is pretty spontaneous mixed in and out with songs and 3 brilliant friends...I have been able to get similar loop and manipulation on the helix now...so I dont use Live as much, just host guitar synth and separate looper with feeds coming direct from the FOH mixer but gesturing is about muscle memory = psychology of being creative. Its worth reading about; you learn to play it like an instrument vs linear button process but it doesnt make sense until you do it and then you wonder how you got by without it :) Thanks for your iinput...the MC8 is quite a neat unit...but way too small for me and I cant deal with stomp box buttons...give me reed switch anytime. I really like a lot of what they have done and the gesturing is brilliant

Hiya Maybe I wasnt too clear, should have said exp2 toes-switch...apologies...maybe pictures help I just want to be able to change the split to either go through the looper or the looper can play with no input just like monitoring the input/on off in a daw and I can play over the top with the normal fx stack; the toe-switch is the nexus Works perfectly...except I cant use the toe-switch ie can operate with a footswitch or manually...you def dont need to externalise the looper All would be fine if the toe-switch wasnt missing?

Cheers...just making sure I didnt miss anything ie if it was consistent handling or not. Im happy with Exp 1/2 onboard...just be nice to have a bit of flexibility to use the exp2 as external switch etc

Cool, thanks. Are you mainly playing to pre recorded stuff or is it spontaneous etc? Eg, Scene fire = Single Scene Fire Legato = On Hold Release (Life saver for live/spontaneous) Scene Stop On Global Quantise = Double Press Immediate Stop On Pedal Up = Double Press On Release (Perfect for synced breaks on Crescend Finish) Thats just a little...but it becomes muscle memory on a single button...hence why I use it

Ok...own one now :-) Yep, would be great to use one of the exp jacks as an extra nice footswitch...a little more comfortable and silent for looping

It seems there is no way to read the Exp3 as per Exp1/2...is that correct? Just making sure...no mention in manual

Ive come from a background of custom controllers...doesnt take long to figure out how important gesturing is for foot switching if you dont want to tap dance. By gesturing, I mean behaviours on footswitches like single press, double press, hold etc I realise the looper has a couple of these and there is also a hold type gesture for command centre but its quite limiting My question is, has anyone else gone down this path and if so, hwo? Im not expecting miracles but a consistent pattern available for all switches would be cool 1. Single press 2. Single press/hold 3. Double press 4. Double press/hold In the past I have just set a single CC/per channel eg Single press on Ch1, Press hold, same cc but on chan 2 etc Alternatively, is anyone interested in doing a little arduino box or similar that would simply be a loop through box for midi to be used as a midi processor so anyone that wants to hack a little deeper doesnt have to go the eprom path? I have the control maps done as they are also putting them into some OEM hardware if that helps

Im not expecting this built in but with a lot of software solutions for using a CC range to control an effect, you can use non linear assignment What I mean is this Imagine you have a loop playing; after the loop block there is a filter with a frequency that is controlled by an expression pedal and after that, a stereo panning phaser where Im targeting the mix parameter (In this case, both on exp 2). During play, you want to sweep the loop down to go to the background which the filter does nicely. When you get to the last eg 80-100% of pedal range, you want the pan/phase mix to kick is so the underlying tone isnt static but swirls. Its important this happens when the loop is mostly low mids so the overlaying play of guitar is not clashing with the loop (of course :-) Normal solution is eg in ableton or daw solution, the first part of the pan/phaser is set to 0% but there is a ramp from 0-100% that occurs at the last part of the pedal range...is that doable in helix without looping midi out, processing (eg Bome) and feeding back in? This pedal is modulating a number of sources so it cant be isolated. Cheers

Hiya DC The circuit done and very straight forward...wasnt actually the question...Why is toe switch not available for controlling the split? The rest is super basic. ie I want the toe switch to changge the route from A > B based on switch state of Toeswitch...its not in the drop down...why is that? In other words the path split modulation is binary child data based on the status of the toe switch, whenever EXP2 becomes active, the path switches the loop input off and allows modulation of the loop output while maintaining the guitar+fx on top Its the equivalent of a looper or daw whereby once you have set a loop going, you play over the top of it independently OR explained another way in abstract, its like using a guitar synth and using the sustain function to hold and modulate while soloing over the top etc The question is def not...how do I control AB split:-) HTH Cheers

Again, thanks so much HD Edit can easily work offline...HX Edit is a surprise I ended up buying a second hand one...got the guy to test the mic in/phantom which to his amazement was fried; I warned him and he tested before bringing it a long way to get the cash but im ok with surface mount pga (with help from a friend) As mentioned, mic is + 48v is super important as when on steel string, I must have something to plug this into and I have tried everything from Taylor on board, LR Bags Anthem, IR Acoustic Stage...well too many to name and I can actually use this in the studio...so its nice to have that live (wrong aim in that pic) Just working on the patch and seemed to do it pretty easily One thing I find a bit annoying is that Im use to multi behaviour on a foot switch, well just 3 basics Quick press Double Press Hold I can see it has 2 of those in command centre but no multi state for stomps etc or double click to go to default Also has legacy fx but no legacy amps...was totally happy with what I had on HD500 and will obviously add a couple of new ones...but really, I only use 3 models and variations of those...that is MORE than enough for a couple of hours of impro :-) Ah well...always a compromise but it certainly has the routing and inputs now...well when I fix; does anyone know of any tips to make the 48v more robust? I have been hot plugging for 40 years and NEVER had an issue (obviously always mute)...but to be that sensitive and Im using high end cables etc (Analysis Plus Pro Oval)

Thanks guys Im just downloading the editor...hopefully that will make your info clearer...hopefully runs in offline mode without a helix :-\ The inputs are exclusive...so each preset can manage separately based on that EDIT: Ok missed opportunity on that one Cant think of any editor of NI that doesnt let you load up offline to check it out. Ah well...anyone have Helix native they want to sell? I must have missed out previously as I thought there was a special on it for 199? It might be easier/flexible and easier to just go the mini pc path Im thinking...and just host it in Live

Thanks for your responses...Ive been out of action for a while...just getting back online Appreciate your info on the HD500 stuff I’m a little confused by your request for a firmware update to a product that you don’t own? Im presuming, like most other hardware inputs including the HD, an expression pedal is treated as a continuous type CV not a binary switch. The manual does not mention any option to treat as an on/off. Old stuff eg guitar rig controller has a specific allowance for an ext pedal to be practically anything and its from this history I learnt how much nicer (and quiet) the reed switches are for looping...the switches on the helix seem fine as I remember reading review about volume and feel and I think I saw a yt on it. I encourage you to try the diff of an almost floor level reed switch vs a raised mechanical for that particular application...you might not agree and thats fine but at least know the extent of what Im illustrating...it may be a win for you as it took me quite a while to find an appreciate that. I also do percussion looping so the timing is pretty important for tight loops...anyway I digress Other that simple stuff on L6 looper, I generally use live for serious stuff but Im not usually on guitar for that :-) Serious live looping isnt going to happen on the helix :-) Even the behringer/roland type switches are good for feel...although even on this early rig, I still had an external pedal for the actual loop starts etc just much more comfortable...I have posted about routings etc on helix as a final gateway to purchase but if it doesnt do it, I guess I can just get helix native and restore the old girl (just uses an embedded mini pc etc and UR44 but you dont see any of that. See pic if its of interest. I put a pic of the live perc rig too to give a feel of scope of looping...would be good if I can get helix to include synth engine in looping but having the other routing mentioned (if doable) will clinch the deal
