  1. WOOOHOOO! The Fender American Standard Stratocaster - Sienna Sunburst arrived this morning! http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/StratAMRSSB2 This is one sweet axe. Ballsy pickups. Fast neck. Beautiful finish. Even came with the authentic black square case. Having just learned SRVs "Cant stand the weather", its a real treat playing it on this baby.It has the exactly the tone I was looking for. And with the Kemper providing the amp/bcab profile thats similar to what he used is a real bonus. Im glad my dissatisfaction with the Variaxs version of the Strat motivated me to get the real thing. The clarity and spank is just what I had hoped for.
  2. Thanks Gary! Last Strat I owned was 45 years. It was a 1964 silver one that I traded for a new 1970 SG Deluxe.
  3. Very good point. But even this standard model that I tried... http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/StratAMRSSB2/snUS13100941 has more quack then the custom Strat files I downloaded from this forum. Not a problem anymore. A real Strat is winging its way to me. :)
  4. Or maybe some folks have heard a live comparison under controlled conditions and are better able to discern the marked difference ;-) Im glad you are happy with the limited modeling of the strat. I am not. Moving on. :)
  5. Excellent point. But today I went to GC with my Variax and played them both thru the same amp. I hear a world of difference. In my case, that is the bottom line. :)
  6. I think the Variax is great for many things. But I wont rationalize away its limitation just cause its " my baby". Plain and simple, doing a cover of SRV with the Variax doesnt cut it FOR ME. So Im getting a guitar that will do the job when I need that particular sound. It does great with most of the rest of the tones.
  7. Im surprised that someone who has owned a Strat and knows what it sounds like can be satisfied with the Variax tones. Performing a cover of a SRV song on the Variax just aint the same to me. :) YMMV (The humbucker just adds to the Strats versatility of tone generation IMHO)
  8. LOL! Actually this is plan B. http://www.rainbowguitars.com/guitar/fender/american-standard-stratocaster-hss-sienna-sunburst/0110102747/fe Lets face it. Tone is everything. It doesnt have the varying degrees of spank and clarity a real strat does.
  9. So Ive had the JTV-59 for about 4 months and have given it a real workout. At the end of the day Im not happy with the Strat modeling. I even downloaded the HD Workbench files from this site where the quack was tweeked. It was noble attempt, but it just doesnt cut it. Must go with Plan B.
  10. Since its something I can afford, I can tell you its worth every penny to me. :)
  11. As a long time user (& lover of Pod HD 500) I recently was ready for a change. The first phase of that change was buying the JTV-59 Variax. A sweet versatile guitar that gives me lots of options. Phase 2 was putting my HD 500 aside and buying a Kemper & a QSC K12 FRFR speaker. All I can say about this experience is, when I plugged in and powered it up, I ended up playing for several hours. And grinning ear to ear. The 300 profiles on the system are amazing. And they are so real, it felt like I had a bevy of tube amps at my fingertips. When I first read about it I was skeptical. But all it took was hearing my guitar thru it and there was no doubt in my mind that I had made the right choice. YMMV
  12. I bought my JTV-59 about 5 months ago. I called tech support and asked them to tell me what serial numbers would be of recent stock (to avoid some of the issues in past years.) Its a fine guitar and has been trouble free.
  13. Oh man. Really? Dont give up so easily! :) Okay so I got the guitar setup and I've been playing it for a few hours. The action is still higher than I'd like around the 12th, and very low near the nut....I'm more inclined to think about saving up for a new neck rather than spending time messing around with this one. See, that just aint right.Mine has none of those issues. Yours shouldnt either. But hey, its your choice. But having bought one recently myself, I empathize with what you are going thru. And I would not let them rip me off if I was in your shoes. Good luck!
  14. You paid good money for that guitar. It shouldnt be in the shoddy shape it seems to be in. Dont stand for crappy customers service from that shop. If you are within the 30 return period sent it back. Demand an exchange. You deserve a fine instrument for your investment
  15. The answer straight from Tech Supports mouth...yes, they are correct.
  16. Thanks Steve, but my original question still stands... ...when HD WB loads in all the models from the Variax are all the settings for the Pots correct.
  17. As I start exploring the WB this question comes to mind. When I first open up the WB and all my JTV-59s guitars are up loaded in (VERY fastly) do they include the correct detailed info on the pots? For example, is the resistance & capacitance of the tone correct for the pickup highlighted? I want to brighten up the mid range of the ES-335 and I believe altering the resistance will do this, but I want to make sure that what uploads from the guitar is correct. I thought I read somewhere that those default values for the pickups had to be loaded by me from the drop down list of Pickup Defaults. This doesn't make sense to me, so this is why I ask. I would think ALL info from the 60 uploaded guitar files to the WB would contain correct info. Heres the post that made me wonder about this. Posted 21 August 2013 - 01:12 PM There is a "load tone and volume defaults" tab on HD Workbench. For some reason the models are not preset to the correct values for all of the models. You must click that tab and pick the appropriate settings. Once that is done, it does make quite a big difference. The models sound much better in most instances. Sometimes it may show the correct match up on the tab, but click something else then go back and click the one that matches up with the model you have selected. Even though it may read as though it matches, sometimes it actually does not. http://line6.com/support/topic/2147-cap-values/
  18. Just did the upgrades as well. I had the Variax Cabled Power Box plugged into the JTV-59. I also had the (USB adapter on the provided ethernet cable) plugged into the guitar and computer. Since I switched to the Kemper I wanted to use a work flow that did not include my boxed away Pod HD 500. It worked like a charm with no hitches whatsoever.
  19. Just for balance, I bought the JTV-59 3 months ago with 2.0 installed. I have no problem with string volume levels. Of course Ive never used the HD Workbench, if that is a factor with this issue.
  20. LOL! Now thats good timing. I just packed my HD 500 away in its original box since it was replaced by the Kemper. BUT I now have the Line 6 Power Box for the Variax and still have the Ethernet/USB cable so if I feel the urge to mess with HD Workbench 2.10 I can. I havent been motivated to do it yet but you never know.
  21. OP here. :D Took delivery of the Cabled Power kit I got for a deal on ebay. Never been used. It is EXACTLY what I wanted for my JTV-59. Apparently can also be used with my Jackson Soloist SL1 USA without fear of it being damaged. SCORE!!
  22. Good thought bmf. I tried using it as such by building some midi control patches others have designed for exactly that purpose . It didnt do all I needed. So I got a Behringer 1010 with a EurekaProm 2 chip that does more then what I need. :D. The HD 500 will go back in its original box and keep my other old midi equipment company in the garage. :( BTW. the JTV-59 and the Kemper rack sound amazing together!
