  1. Yeh after 18 years of being a muso I think I'm sure of what I'm doing but like I said, in the case of hunting tone, it might take some reconfiguring and experimenting till you get what you want. For the most part, I don't usually see people going to THIS much trouble but seen as tho electronics is my forte and so picky with tone, I thought it wise to investigate how flexible this POD HD Pro really is and what unique limitations are present with it. This is in fact my very first Line 6 product ever which I've only just bought and I'm trying to get through the Line 6 learning curve as quickly as possible. As for "truly parallel" all the way through, you are right but its simple semantics to me. I already know to split guitar output to 2 inputs and sum both outputs together right at the end of the chain, or splicing in stuff from the FX loop as a single effect or an entire chain, or even a combination of both series and parallel. If you can be happy with POD HD on its own with minimal extra's then more power to you. Unfortunately to me, there's some serious limitations inherent in it concerning DSP and to get closer to a tone I want, I have a need for extra stereo FX "BEFORE" the amp sim and stereo FX "AFTER" the amp sim to fill it out. This is just me figuring out how far I can push this thing and what can be done to work around those limitations with some bonuses too and just to be clear, I have the POD in a full sized rack in amongst other rack mixer and FX components and acts like the central nexus to everything I use for recording, so as you can expect, more connections!
  2. Tis a shame. I was looking at a bigger picture than just simple swapping between 2 FX. Purpose of that question is because I'm deeply exploring all my routing possibilities in a serial AND parallel fashion, pre, post and side fx to the POD HD Pro. I love it for the amp sim but hate it for its FX and DSP limitations which has me thinking right outta the box to supplement it with whatever I can. Seems I'm in a quest for an elusive tone and I'm sure some of you understand what I mean, this kind of thing takes some experimentation.
  3. Hi. Just a quick question. At the moment I'm using the FX Loop as normal with the Loop block positioned between 2 other FX blocks. I'm wanting to know if I can put the "FX Loop send" between 2 FX blocks and the "FX Loop Return" between 2 other FX blocks later in the chain essentially forming a parallel or side-chain ?
  4. Ok. seems I figured it out and wasn't hard at all. So here's what I did. 1. What I needed to do was load POD Edit with the presets, rename them, and then save them to pc, then transferred them back into the POD and they all displayed fine. 2. Was a pretty dumbass question to ask now that I think about it lol. All I had to do was learn how Setlists and Bundles work, so thanks to GTLazer for putting me on the right track.
  5. Hi. Just have a couple questions concerning Presets & Setlists 1. After renaming downloaded presets in windows in a format more neat and tidy for my eyes to read on that miniscule LCD I discovered that when after renaming and then sent into POD via edit that the original file name displayed on the screen rather than my rename. Is there additional tag information in the presets, kinda like mp3's have ? and if so, can I edit the preset names to show on my POD ? 2. Can I load more than 1 preset at a time into a setlist in the form of a batch transfer rather than 1 by 1 via edit ? Your input is most appreciated!
  6. What I should've also mentioned was that the external stereo fx pedals im wanting to use have both stereo inputs and outputs, the stereo inputs of the pedal that the guitar connects to will be summed to mono with stereo output.

I was contemplating the fact that I needed an FX Loop before aswell as after the amp sim stage within the POD HD Pro's signal chain to add some external stereo FX pedals that I own but obviously the FX Loop wasn't designed to be used in that way. So, Then I got to thinking, maybe I could assign the POD HD Pro's existing FX Loop to be after the amp sim stage to use for post amp processing and to find a way to get FX into it before the amp sim (in stereo) I could maybe route the stereo FX outputs of my external FX pedal into the POD HD Pro's dual inputs at either stomp or line level, in stereo. To get an idea of what I'm trying to do, here is the path I want to achieve. Guitar > Stereo stomp pedal (external fx) > POD HD Pro dual input (stereo) > POD HD Pro (internal fx) > POD HD Pro fx send (stereo) > Stereo stomp pedal (external fx) > POD HD Pro fx return > The main 2 objectives im trying to achieve is.. 1. Get stereo fx into the POD's input BEFORE the amp sim) aswell as getting stereo fx After the amp sim using normal fx loop. 2. Maintaining a perfectly symmetrical stereo path from beginning to end all the way through the chain. Anyone out there think this is a feasible and do-able fx chain ? and if so, what internal POD settings or alternative routings should I consider ?
  8. Excellent, So midi control is a total solution if the FBV or TS connections aren't convenient. Well now I feel somewhat better about the situation so thankyou for your helpful and timely responses, least I have another option to work with. May I suggest to the line 6 team that your next flagship rack model includes a TS connection for those wanting to utilize their expressions to be assigned to the spectrum of effects the FBV covers now. I think people will appreciate the trivial addition, especially on a flagship. Cheers.
  9. Could anyone point me towards a midi controller for the HD Pro ? I know behringer sells one but I honestly thought the FBV interface was exclusively a Line 6 interface ?
  10. Right ok, So the FBV interface is completely a digital one. I thought there was a good chance there was at least 3 conductors of the RJ-45 ethernet cable dedicated to analogue expression control that might've been tap'able. I completely understand from an electronics perspective that all the functions you'll find on say the Express MKII requires more than a simple analogue TRS connection, that's a given. Looking at the only 2 Line 6 alternatives I also noticed the Express MKII version only has the FBV connector were as the Shortboard MKII has the same 2nd TRS socket on the back for a 2nd TRS expression pedal like the HD500 has. Having bought the HD Pro I knew I would land into this debackle from the get go so I was fully aware of what I might've been in for. I guess the whole idea of the HD Pro for me was to get away from the floor as much as possible and keep only a few control elements on the floor as it will only be limited to home studio use. Its interesting how Line 6 decided to use it on some models and not others as it seems that Line 6 doesn't appear to be phasing TRS out yet so to me it sounds like a marketing stratergy more than anything and I suppose its frustrating having spent all these years with the freedom of continuing to use old gear with the new and suddenly tackling such a ridiculous limitation. I guess the only answer for me is the Express MKII and hope it endures the years cause I know for a fact in years to come, when that Express MKII dies suddenly and leaves me with a discontinued product Line 6 no longer sells, ill be up the creek without a paddle cause nothing else on the market will electronically interface with it. That's the ultimate benefit with universal options, discontinued products won't leave you dead in the water.
  11. Thanks I appreciate your replies. My entire motivation to making this post was to find a way of utilising a "universal industry standard" expression pedal being the TRS or TS type with the HD Pro rather than the obvious choice of purchasing a Line 6 proprietary RJ45 socket solution. Line 6 went to the trouble of providing a 2nd TRS type socket on the HD500 but failed to implement it on the HD Pro, so what is a HD Pro user to do with his pre-existing expression pedals ? I want to continue using them, as I have with many Boss and Zoom products over the decades. So I guess to narrow it down my aim was to find a way of converting the proprietary RJ45 jack to the TRS with some kind of adaptor or mod and to continue using my Boss FV-500 ect, I don't want to be backed into a "proprietary corner", is there any hope ? or do I just reluctantly bite the Line 6 bullet and pay yet more money for something I already have just cause it has different sockets ? I've always had great disdain for proprietary stunts as those as they force you into paying for something extra and renders your perfectly good gear useless. That's bad marketing form IMO. Still, I pray for a solution..... If there is one.
  12. Hey there axe grinders. My very first post EVER on any kind of forum after years of passive observation, so please go easy and tell me if I broke any rules with this new thread. I have just recently purchased a POD HD Pro for my rack and is my first Line 6 product and still on the learning curve. My problem is concerning the expression pedal connections and their propriatry RJ45 socket vs the standard TRS. Was told I could use a FBV2 footswitch box to get me running until I can buy the MKII Shortboard so I bought it and immediately became obvious it wasn't compatible with the HD Pro so I took it back. Problem with the HD Pro is that there isn't a 2nd TRS Expression socket like there is on the HD500 to connect my Boss FV-500 to and be used. My question is, Is there any way at all for me to use my FV-500 (or any TRS type) expression pedal to a POD HD Pro ? I'm assuming there may be a mod for it or an adaptor that may be used ? Either way I'm quite proficient with electronics if anyone is willing to share a schematic ? Your replies are much appreciated!
