lol stumbling, you've been busy I see !

So, I logged in the other day and went to reply to a post and wanted to quote their post in mine, usually it worked, but now it doesn't and comes up blank, wtf ? Is there some account setting I need to change to re-enable it ? Are other people experiencing issues with using quotes ?

I couldn't open mine anyways cause I don't own one :P And im certainly not opening my HD Pro until I have to. The link stumblinman posted looks like a positive prospect. It even says *with switch* just like the original has....

You will never completely remove the fizz, but I believe in your case it could be minimized, I don't remember it being THAT bad tbh and if it was, it was always down to the PODs internal settings. Things like inputs, outputs, amp/cab, and improper gain shaping seems to be the biggest contributors to the notorious fizz. And having the wrong settings for your cabling methods aswell. Having input 2 set to variax seems to give the best signal to noise ratio. And maybe try playing with the pad settings in combination with other settings.

Suggestions For Using A Chorus To Imitate Double Tracking?
NucleusX replied to briandshelby's topic in POD HD
Does the POD not have a detuner ? that was going to be my suggestion. I found using a detuner to be the best solution. Well... at least with my other gear it is. -
With so many variables from pups through to cabinet, its not an easy thing to diagnose. Once I had an Ibanez loaded with EMG's that gave me that exact same fizz result and I couldn't work it out till I was in clean channel (mostly in gain mode lol) and noticed distortion was being generated by the pups, so I lowered them and the fizz was reduced. It could also be the POD in combination with your amp and cabinets, but I doubt it if your gear is of decent quality and make. I'd experiment with other pups and amps and do your own process of elimination to see if theres more you can do without spending. The bulk of your experimenting should be done with the PODs internal settings but it all starts at the pups, make sure your cleans are as clean as possible first.

lol yeh exactly, why would we crack our perfectly working ones open when you have a broken one to open anyways :P
-
lol. Seriously tho, a 2nd expression pedal would be handy. One would usually leave onboard expression pedal as volume and assign a pitch shifter or wha wha to the other. Its assignable to many parameters.
-
No secret lol, just the usual behaviour of a company wanting to squeeze every last dollar outta ya. They don't want you doing your own repairs.

If you've ever had any experience with analogue distortion units, you will know some of the tried and true techniques that have been found over the decades like cascading stages and front ending distortion units with a booster or overdrive. Layering a distortion on-top of another distortion is usually a tricky ordeal getting the gains right, if at all. Alternatively, you could just buy your favourite distortion unit and hope it performs just aswell in the POD's input or FX Loop, I did. EDIT: I found a touch of stereo chorus can smooth some of that out. Placed anywhere AFTER the amp block and BEFORE delays.

Sounds to me like your describing the ultimate bane of digital modelling. That fizz you mention CAN be reduced but not completely removed and is mostly a limitation of the algorithms. I'm VERY picky when it comes to amps and distortions and I see this deficiency re-occurring in many other MFX models manufacturers have made, not just Line6. All you can do is build a patch as best as you can with each FX block gains & volumes set correctly and get your cabling in order, its the best you can do. Anyone that claims perfection with distortion and amp algorithms is a liar. That's assuming you've tried everything else to no avail, of course.

I believe this is something your going to have to approach Line6 for as that infinite rotary dial would be specifically made for the PODs. I'd contact Line6 tech support to source a replacement if possible.

Setting up the SPDIF setting in the POD HD500X is only half the job. You also need to set the right bit and sample rates within the windows audio device settings to the same rates in both recording and playback sections and match them together for a successful lock. 16 bit @ 48khz is the least problematic of all combinations.

If you can give it, you can take it buddy. LOL and the man took a point off me, how's that for freedom of speech.

@Mr_Arkadin, ahh the Line6 expert defender, there to save the day so he can get more free crap from Line6 lol. And IM cheap ? You've been biased and sold out since day one of joining this forum ! Love the new name for this thread btw lol.

Unfortunately, most, if not all digital pitch shifters that stray too far from the original centre pitch sound terrible with polyphonic chords, they introduce aliasing artifacts into the sound and has been plaguing guitarists for a long time, and some believe can only be overcome by adequate DSP performance, but we're yet to see it. Alternate tunings aren't possible in chromatic steps if you where in a standard tuning to begin with. E standard down to C standard works but you will definitely get artifacts with that much spread. As a general rule, pitch shifters are only useful in these 2 senario's... 1. Polyphonic chord shifter no further than 2 semi-tones away from centre. 2. Monophonic note shifter as far as 12 semi-tones or more. As far as pitch shifters are concerned, these are about as good as they get. http://www.morpheusguitarpedals.com/bomber.php http://www.morpheusguitarpedals.com/droptune.php

Anyone that's "a completely happy sheep" shouldn't even be in this thread to begin with. This thread is for people who "aren't completely happy" and those of you who are happy don't help the purpose of this thread, which is to possibly expand our choices and seem to just want to be here to argue and frustrate others wether on purpose or not. HOORAY! for me, I unwillingly got an extra X preamps in the last firmware update that I will NEVER use. Not every amp has to be modelled, only the ones that seem to have a high demand like the 5150 or the Engl Powerball, We're not asking for millions ! Think about it, there are still some landmark amps the HD can't replicate already, and to not have that "choice" there for their best POD yet, seems ridiculous to some, nothing wrong with that.
-
Really ? your going to try and debunk me with that ? LOL smh. Try looking through the older POD iterations, nothing else. I'm starting to think half these people work for Line6 and all they wanna do is reduce our justified expectations to zero. I think its perfectly fine to argue these points, you won't gain anything by saying "I'm a completely happy sheep" lol Anyways, I'm done.
-
It is only "untrue" in the case of firmware updates, not downloadable content. There are no choices in firmware updates, you get what you get and too bad if you don't like it, your stuck with it. I'm particularly referring to the model packs that used to be the norm for Line6 before the HD series and right now, there are no "choices" in that department.
-
WaubinHood, your missing the point. And that is, when most of us bought the high end POD HD products, we expected some kind of future additions just as they have with previous POD releases, not absolutely nothing ! We have zero amps or fx to supplement the original stock collection with, and not everyone can be happy with the same old amps. It's having the "choice" to add what we want that really matters, and there are no choices. I bet you even secretly crave for a particular amp or effect in your closet lol.
-
meambobbo, You've just perfectly worded my somewhat convoluted thoughts on Line6 and their current approach to their HD range. I'm relatively new to Line6 products but by no means new to guitar hardware in general, and it doesn't take an idiot to figure out (compared to Line6's past strategies) that Line6 have lost all customer focused perspective. This is why I vowed to never buy Line6 again in a previous post. Maybe one day they will start to listen to customers again when enough of their revenue is lost, but like you, I'm not waiting for their realizations either. I'm about to pull the trigger on an AxeFX II. While I'm aware that its unfair to compare it to the POD HD, Fractal haven't lost perspective on customer feedback, and that's something ALL company's should aspire to rather than this bait and switch stunt I've been witnessing, which WILL return to haunt them if this approach keeps up.
-
That is absolutely untrue, and I challenge you to prove it with technical referencing. The Boss FV-500H is "BOTH" a volume pedal "AND" an expression pedal with both circuits isolated from each other. Expression socket is a TRS stereo socket type. I'd re-check your information. Boss even says so. I've also posted a diagram to the cable I made in a previous post. Ring wire was omitted for TS mono compatibility to the Shortboard MKII. Maybe you should've read the entire thread first lol.
-
So.. A couple weeks later and this is what I end up with. Had a rather short response email from the Line6 tech support and its a single line response I'm sure your all not surprised with. *We do not support your expression pedal* in essence. Frustrated with this, I kept the ticket running and extended my request to have this looked into (which I doubt they did the first time round) and still waiting on THAT response after 10 + days. I also included the source of my email received by a technician I refered to earlier in this thread. "This is a quirk of the Shortboard, and occurs with the EX-1 pedal as well - the pedal needs to be plugged in after the Shortboard has fired up as the Shortboard does not do a detect when initialising. We understand that there is no moves by Line6 to address this." Now, the technician who sent me this email works for a company in Australia called Australis, and is the main distributor for Line6 in Australia. You can imagine my disgust when I found out this information practically coming straight from the horses mouth and then later Line6 denying the problem ever existed to me.
