  1. Hmm excellent news to my ears, and a lot of us are lusting for this for sure. Its a staple amp in any modeller. Merry xmas all ! mine just got better :)
  2. lol yeh, your not the only one that's highly sceptical.
  3. I read a few weeks back, a thread on the possibility that Line6 are working to deliver this model. Is this official, or just a rumour ?
  4. I've read quite a few of these posts of various booting and firmware issues. Won't say this is just a common thing with Line6 units, but it does make me think about how people yearn for updates and how we're commonly told that we should appreciate the updates we DO have when we b#tch and moan. Firmware was never in the equation of the small list of things that COULD go wrong with analogue FX. Firmware is just another layer of something to go wrong, with the strong possibility of being a huge inconvenience when it does randomly happen. Maybe yearning for updates isn't such a ridiculous request, when everyone knows in the back of their mind their digital unit might very well be living on borrowed time while things are running smoothly. Food for thought.
  5. Personally, I prefer VST's in a PC/Mac environment for a plethora of reasons, which tends to be the preferred option in a "static" studio situation, as opposed to the live role. I thought the Shortboard MKII with MIDI over USB was at-least worth mentioning for the OPs benefit too. Chances are he'll want some kind of controller for his POD HD Pro anyways, might as-well get one that can do MIDI over USB and get the best of both worlds with his VSTs, so long as they support MIDI. DAWs can also be assigned to receive MIDI commands for transport controls ect, can control a whole host of functions. B) Imagine the possibilities if you put a decent audio interface (with MIDI) in the POD HD Pro's FX Loop.
  6. For the most part I agree, you can't go comparing VSTs with Hardware FX, its an unfair comparison. So many compulsive posters here that post on a daily basis. Makes you wonder if they actually have any time left to actually use their gear lol. Is that mindset constructive ? I have my doubts. Maybe some of them want to compulsively post for an admin position....
  7. I gotta agree tho, some Line6 fans here get VERY defensive when you start talking about the negatives of gear, its almost like you insulted their girlfriend and slam you for it, its mostly the reason I don't bother signing in here anymore, very unfriendly atmosphere. If you took the time to grace more general gear sites, you'll notice a lot of people share this opinion about this forum. I'm having a premonition, I predict negative points for this post ! LOL So tow the line(6) or get out...
  8. ColonelForbin "It would be a great idea for a hardware / computer designer, to come up with a floorboard type unit, or rack mount pro type unit - that offers all the hardware functionality of a POD rig, but can be used to run third party VST plugins." For the most part, the solution to this is right under your nose, and Line6 manufactured it. I have successfully used the Shortboard MKII, which is the usual floor control option for the POD HD Pro, to control VSTs via midi over USB. The VST must support midi commands. http://line6.com/footcontrollers/fbvshortboardmkii.html
  9. ;) Been there done that, scroll down to post #28. The EV-5 should be the same, enjoy ! http://line6.com/support/topic/4992-pod-hd-pro-shortboard-mkii-external-exp2/
  10. How about determining the phase of each signal (amp+cab), using a DAW and a phase/spectrum analyser VST, then adjust the phase of one to match the other ? Example > http://www.voxengo.com/product/pha979/ or > http://www.fluxhome.com/products/Freewares/stereotool Info > http://atoragon.blogspot.it/2012/03/frequency-phase-analyzers-and-metering.html > http://atoragon.blogspot.it/2013/07/phase-coherence-in-multiple-mic.html
  11. joel_brown "One good thing I checked out because of this thread is Bias from PositiveGrid. Although the iPhone version is way too limited, the full version is something I'm going to look into. But $200 for the software, another $100 bucks for a small portable interface, then I'll need a laptop or iPad to run it, plus somehow connect a midi pedal to switch presets. It won't be cheap to put something together for live use. A lot more than just $20 for my iPhone and a few bucks for an interface and I'm off gigging." 2 ways I can see out of this easy enough. 1. I can use my Shortboard MKII footcontroller to send midi messeges via USB directly with PC, using the FBV Control to configure midi messages to say AmpliTube or Guitar Rig in the VST/DAW environment, without the POD HD Pro connected. I imagine if I can do this, the POD HD500/X might be capable of doing it aswell via USB, or using its midi in/out features at least. 2. There's a few quality 2 channel interface options, with midi in/out, high sample rates, for a very reasonable price. EG: https://www.steinberg.net/en/products/audio_interfaces/ur_serie/modelle/ur22.html I'm sure you'd be set with one, or both solutions.
  12. There is, and has been internal DSP solutions in pc's for the better half of 2 decades now. Example: http://www.soundblaster.com/products/sound-blaster-zxr.aspx Those kind of solutions involving VST technologies are considered to be superior to most, if not all DSP hardware MFX units.

    HD500 Input Z

Would be interesting to see if front-ending the input with a solid pre-amp would generally improve the tone dynamics achieved at the output. Unfortunately, amongst the gear that I have, a dedicated pre-amp isn't one of them. Could be possible tapping into the pre-amp of any guitar amplifier tho, if it has an FX Loop, that is. Good post. ;)
  14. Well, rather than spill my inner negative thoughts of why I'd disagree with his choice, and kick him in the pants on the way out for making a choice better suited to himself, which is all that really matters, I'd rather say goodbye on a graceful note. anything less is just childish imo.
  15. LOL @ the sarcastic replies, if hurting Line6 ego's was your mission, id say you succeeded. :) Personally, I'm genuinely happy for you ! goodluck buddy, find peace with your technology.
  16. AGuyFromMaine "As much as I appreciate the reference to a great song, I don't believe in jinxes. I believe in God. I also believe that manufacturing and quality control has suffered greatly over the past couple decades and we are now living in a world of disposable products and poor production." 2 words, "Planned Obsolescence", and all that it entails. You'd be an idiot to think that ANY company builds something to last these days.
  17. I felt it was a good topic, and maybe too much, and I appreciate the posts from the very few that participated. This is a subject that seems to be beyond the walls of "Line6 gear", and into the realm of sound engineering. So for that reason, the little input given here was a sign to move onto more specialized sources of information.
  18. Nevermind, I figured it out on my own, thanks anyways. Moderator can delete this thread, was going nowhere.
  19. I have a Radial passive re-amping box, that pretty much does the same thing as your DIY link there, and the thing is great for re-amping dry signals to other amps. Not sure, but I may have my terminologies wrong, so excuse my noobness. The goal I'm trying to achieve, is to use some front-end FX within the HD Pro, then send that signal off into the DAW for amp and cabinets/IR's with VST plugins, then send that back out to the HD Pro for post-amp FX, then back out to the DAW again for final recording. The DAW can support multiple ASIO audio devices simultaneously, so I can see it being possible. One audio device can be used to control the ins and outs of VST plugins, and the other is the main audio device the DAW will use for recording, I have a feeling the FX Loop on the HD Pro will be needed. Can the USB interface on the HD Pro be used as an FX Loop ? I wonder...
  20. I have considered one of those, would that be adding an extra conversion to the process, and extra latency ? Ideally, I'd like to have the fewest conversions in-line.
  21. I actually did manage to find that thread before creating this one, and it is helpful to some extent. Problem being, that solution requires the RCA SPDIF method to get it going, which I don't have on my interface. The gear I have at the moment is as follows.. POD HD Pro. Creative - X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro. (1/8 Line ins/outs, TOS-Link ins/outs) Steinberg - UR22. (1/4 inch ins/outs, USB). All above items are able to run @96khz using ASIO drivers within DAW. Originally, the only solution to this hardware config I could think of, was to use the USB interface on the HD Pro primarily for re-amping (if that's viable), and run 1/4inch outs from the HD Pro into the Steinberg USB interface for the final wet signal that will be recorded by the DAW, in real-time. I'd like to maintain both Left and Right paths as a stereo path on both, rather than splitting the signals to mono in path A and B within the HD Pro, which i've read about. How would you go about it ?
  22. _BUMP_ :P Comon peeps don't be scared. Has anyone tried using the POD HD's USB interface in tandem with a proper interface for this kinda thing ? Problem for me unfortunately is that neither my PC soundcard or USB interface has an RCA SPDIF input, only optical TOS-Links, so I'm looking for a solid alternative to getting this done right.
  23. In general, there's no amp best suited to the POD HD500, as your ears and personal tastes are the final determining factor. But, because these POD HD units are designed with modelled amps at its core, the FRFR standard would be the most logical and flexible to use with the POD HD's, as these speaker setups are designed to be neutral in tone, and not colour your amp-sims like traditional amps and cabinets do, thus allowing you to experience the amp-sim as it was intended to be heard. My advice, look into FRFR standard and active/passive full-range speakers, chances are, you'll end up looking at amps and cabinets that are already provided in the POD HD as a simulated algorithm.
  24. As the POD HD does not have loadable IR's for custom use, the only way to use custom IR's for recording is to bypass the cabinet on the POD HD completely, and send signal off to the DAW that has custom cabinet plugins and IR's for processing, which tends to be a better result for most. Some of you may have wondered why some POD HD units have SPDIF out ? It has the option to send either dry or wet signals from the POD HD and can be used for re-amping purposes. This output can be used in other ways too, but for the purpose of this thread, I think it best to stick to how people use this exclusively for cabinets and IR's to get around those on the POD HD.
  25. Some of us (including me), are not so impressed with the POD HD's cabinet IR's, so there's a need for re-amping, even if you don't want a piece of it. I guess my query is directed towards those that DO use it, and not to those that don't. But I will agree, too many choices and options can drain you of inspiration, been there too often.
