I thought I'd start a thread on the "re-amping" topic for the POD HD owners, and get everyone's thoughts and idea's on the successful methods and approaches everyone has had, and exactly what you did to achieve it. This subject could do with some in-depth enlightenment, Cheers.

2 x Analog Delay with Mod (Memory Man) together....sounds great!
NucleusX replied to GazzaBloom's topic in POD HD
Another good reason to use HD Edit when experimenting like that is sparing the duty cycle off the rotary encoders and keys/switches to get longer life out of them before they pack it in due to over-use. -
Amp Wish List For The Next Update (whenever That Is)
NucleusX replied to RipperShred's topic in POD HD
It can't be done, that's why this thread is called a "wishlist". if anything, loadable IR's might pop up in the next POD iterations, not the current. -
Amp Wish List For The Next Update (whenever That Is)

So are you drawing parallels with Apple as to how Line6 operates ? cause I don't see any "beaten to death" customer requests being fulfilled here, all I see is a crapload of talking/debating, and no real results to be brutally honest. -
AHA! And now we enter the realm of psycho-acoustics, thanks for clarifying that for me. I have achieved this in the VST environment, and am in total agreement, HUGE sound ! Didn't know this was called the "Haas Effect" tho, further down the rabbit-hole I go lol.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the extra input.

I don't think the POD HD has a dedicated "Detuner", but it can be closely replicated by the Pitch Glide effect with certain parameters set, aswell as maybe a chorus. Luckily, I have both the detuner and doubler FX available in other units I use. Time to experiment ! http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=790034

I've tried the stereo chorus trick and it sounds great in a low gain scenario (Vai, Vah Halen or Wylde), but as joel mentioned, its not the go for "high gain" metal. Guess I'll just keep working on the delay trick. I was really hoping to fully achieve this in the live hardware sense, without double/quad tracking.

This is something I've always wanted to cover myself in great detail. I've been studying Ola Englund's video's on youtube, because I'm a fan of the brutal metal tone that the Engl amps produce. Example: (0:55) When he uses the real hardware when recording, he will pan his guitar tracks at the DAW to get a stereo field of his Engl, which seems to be way more of a detailed tone than mono. I realize there's 2 recorded tracks, giving that stereo doubling effect in the final product, but what I can't seem to get a definitive answer on is, can this be achieved with the POD HD on its own, in real-time without a DAW ? I assume dual-tone (2 x Engl Fireball) is required with a certain panning at the mixer in the POD HD, and maybe something else I'm missing in the chain ? Or, is this "Glenn Delaune trick" the only real way of going about getting a stereo field ? I would've started a new thread on this, but I think this question suitably fits the OP's query.

Terrible design flaw and oversight if you ask me, this is something that should've been considered from the get go, don't think I've EVER had an EQ expressed in a percentage. Yes I can use my ears, but parameters need proper defining so one can record exact parameters down, or restore things the way they where, say after a firmware update/reset, or whatever reason. There's many more logical reasons to have it than not, so I'm not convinced. I agree with brue58ski, whats the point of ANY kind of parameter if that's the attitude.

lol.

I've drawn a simple schematic with MS Paint for you to follow. 10K is the official resistance for the POD HD expression socket (EXP2). In this example, at rest, the "normally closed" momentary switch, will present 0 Ohm to the POD. When stepped on, the momentary switch will present a 10K Ohm resistance to the POD. If you require the opposite logic, simply reverse pins 1 and 3 (or turn the switch around 180 degrees), and re-wire. Build this into a project/stomp box, and connect to POD via standard patch cable. As for the switch itself, it doesn't/shouldn't need to be specifically a "normally closed" or "normally open" type switch, I'm just using the term to clarify it's on/off state (NC in the diagram). All you need is a standard "SPDT momentary" footswitch. I can't say how well this will function for your exact use, as this isn't a typical mod, but it's about as close as you'll get. Let us know how it turns out if you decide to build it, if all goes well, I might even make one myself ! One last thing I need to mention. Some POD HD owners (like myself), have reported a detection issue with the EXP2 interface. So if you run into a detection issue, the only solution to this is plugging into the socket AFTER the unit has powered up. Cheers. SPDT = Single Pole, Double Throw.

Hmm, might this be a survey question for Line6 to decide wether the Mic input will be omitted on the next flagship series ? It's ok, I don't expect an answer ! lol. +1 on the Optical input/output. It is becoming increasingly difficult to get a decent pc soundcard with RCA SPDIF, Optical seems to be the way they are going now.
-
I most certainly will !
-
Yep that's it, has anyone tried this without the nasty feedback loop effect ? I assume it can be done, if both inputs of the guitar, and mic, are kept separate ?
-
Could using the mic input to mic cabinets, provide a reliable mono mix of your guitar input/output that you could feed back into your POD and dual-tone in this manner ? So, for example.... Guitar > Input 1 > POD > Output(s) > Amp > Speakers > Mic (monitoring speaker(s)) > Mic Input > POD > Output(s) > Amp > Speakers.

Wether its to a tremelo system, or the bridge system, there should always be continuity between those 2 with either, or both, the electronics approach is all the same. You should even find continuity between the guitars strings, and output socket too. I'll also add, that this grounding method, doesn't usually apply to active pickup guitars.
-
Judging from duncann's post, it doesn't seem its modelled off any particular amp, but a mix of elements from various amps, with some added tweaks.
-
The grounding wire in most passive pickup loaded guitars, is almost always connected to the back of the tremolo system (close to the springs), so you need to remove the cover to that cavity for inspection. Verify continuity from there, to the back of the pots, and then to the output jack, with a multimeter.

If there was any kind of re-posting, it never came from me. Although, I gotta say, I'm a little pissed at this cloak and dagger/smoke and mirrors crap, no transparency to be found here, my fault for that expectation.
-
Hmm, well, I can surely say my intention wasn't to spread misinformation, it was to try and nail a definite answer on a looming question, so I apologize for the confusion, that clarification would've been nice from the get-go, but oh well, my bad. Argh, I give up on any kind of solid answers on this subject, I'm done.
-
I think brue58ski got it right the first time lol, emphasis on the word "probably" (which is derived from D.I's quote "fairly certain"), and he just said "HD" as opposed to "HD-X". meh, semantics.
-
Sorry if I sound like noob lol, but what is S-Gear ? *googles* B) Scuffham S-Gear Amp Modelling. Ok, so this is some flavour of VST amp modelling for PC/MAC, for re-amping and such ? Me thinks he's advertising.. lol.
-
Ok great, ty. But even that post isn't said with %100 certainty, is anything that Line6 is asked, answered with %100 certainty ? lol, too much cloak and dagger if you ask me, pretty frustrating when you can't get "certain" answers most of the time, even on the simple questions that wouldn't hurt their business statistics, even after 4 years !
-
@RIblues It doesn't seem like your paying much attention to this discussion lol. D.I. has said (or at least is "fairly certain"), that all the non X POD HD versions have been put to EOL status, that means, if this is %100 correct, that we will never see anymore updates, period, only the current X versions will, I own a POD HD Pro btw, the non X version. I must make one thing clear, I didn't create a Line6 forum account to trumpet how good Line6 gear is, I made it to have another trouble-shooting tool (with discussion), in the toolbox, when needed, I'm not too interested in your Line6 politics lol. And I'm not interested in AMPLIFi either, it might sound good, which is something I can't comment on, not having tried one myself, but its interface is enough to turn me right off. I don't want my FX controlled by an Apple iPad, I want them to function as a standalone unit as they are, if you don't understand that, something is wrong. As for the EQ thing, I never saw D.I's comment on it, do you have a link for me to look at ? cheers.
