  1. The v2.6 firmware (free) just gives you a global EQ, and maybe some optimizations to "accommodate" expansions, but they should be considered separate.
  2. After all the political corrections to statements, I still don't see where that extra %4 (give or take) came from. Can you tell us EXACTLY what was done to achieve this, I think most of use are assuming a slight increase in available DSP, resulted from a decrease or trade-off in something "elsewhere". specifics please !
  3. If you want to bypass the preamp entirely on the amp, and just want to hear the HD500 in all its glory, i would get rid of the 4 cable method, and run the HD500 output(s) directly in the amps FX Return(s). 4CM is great if you want to switch between all combinations with preamp inline, but trickier. Your patches will be easier to build, and less tap-dancing on footswitches if you can do without the preamp.
  4. destroythevoice "I actually have the MKII with the 4 switches and wah/volume pedal for my line 6 head but im looking into selling that head if i can get a better unit.. so Would you say its better to go Pro X or HD500x?" Ultimately, the only difference between the 2, is the Pro has a little more flexibility in I/O options, and that's about it. The "scenes" your looking for isn't present, but I believe the M13 has this function in it, not that its superior. I'm actually thinking about getting an M13 to put in the Pro's FX Loop cause it has midi, although, I wonder if someone can tell me if I can use the FBV port on the M13 to control the Pro directly rather than midi ? or just meant for the FBV foot controllers. anyone ?
  5. The FBV Longboard (maybe), FBV Shortboard MKII, and FBV Express MKII, is Line6's floor controller solutions for the HD Pro, and HD Pro X. Check em out.
  6. Fair call, I was put in the exact same position once, which is how I ended up with the 2 smaller 20 watt Roland Cubes that I could separate, rather than the one larger combo I couldn't. In stereo they are quite loud enough, but not over the top for a bedroom. I have no personal experience with the Bugera's, but if I had to make a choice on those 2 company names based on reputation and excellence, I think the Mustang would win-out.
  7. Seems with one of those mustangs, you'll be stuck in mono, unless you plan on getting two of them. Personally, I'd think hard on this one http://intl.fender.com/en-AU/series/mustang/mustang-iv-v2-120v/ It has a stereo FX Loop, so your POD can deliver a stereo signal to the mustang.
  8. Ok thanks, it seems the L6 Link interface was exclusively designed for connectivity with Line6's amp solutions then. Oh well, worth a try.
  9. Oh, and just to add to this... I have a pair of solid-state Roland Cube amps, which have a "Power Squeeze" switch, that pretty much achieves the same thing as an attenuator. Even tho its not a tube amp, the effect is still apparent. I imagine if Roland can put this feature into a solid-state amp, there just might be a tube amp out there with the same kind of feature. If amp-sims are the core of your tones, and not the amp itself, then maybe a simular solid-state solution would do your situation justice, just a suggestion. You can already get your sweetspots in the amp-sims, regardless of what amp you choose later. :)
  10. Sure its possible, but I don't think your going to achieve your desired result. AFAIK, the Bugera's pre-amp would just simply see a low volume, and then pass that onto the tubes without saturation into the dynamic range you get with a high output. The main output tubes need to be driven hard into the "sweetspot" your hunting, and that's only achieved by raising volume levels within the pre-amp stages of a tube amp first. There is a device called an attenuator, some use to load an amp at the speaker terminals, which results in a volume drop, but keeps it in that sweetspot, this is the only solution I know of that would do the trick. With amp-sims tho, its a non-issue, you can sweetspot the hell out the amp-sim, and pass it on @ low levels.
  11. Been using the POD HD Pro, in combination with the Shortboard MKII for a while now. By using other FX pedals and rack FX in the PODs signal paths, I've been able to avoid the dreaded DSP maxed out screen, and it works fine. Lately, I've been toying with the idea of buying a HD500X, that would team up with my HD Pro (via fx loop) for added DSP, and the ability of sending/receiving midi commands to each other. The HD500X seems to be slight over-kill for this role, so I started looking at the HD400, but unfortunately, it lacks the midi ports. So then I got to thinking, I wonder how flexible this L6 Link interface really is, which the HD400 has, and I wonder if its possible to use it to fulfil my midi/control needs connected directly to the HD Pro. Is this a dead-end idea ? or a solid solution to a lack of midi ? If midi is not possible with this connection, what is possible ? if anything. Cheers.
  12. Bump: from another thread. "I love how Line6 give us a heads up about this a few months before they actually arrive. What's the story with that, are they curious to know what we think before dropping the goods ?" I can imagine Line6 staff doing this to flush out the labrats from their guitars, and observe their behaviours/opinions. Just drop them already.... zzZZZZ
  13. bjnette "Joke mate! No need to feel dumbfounded except for our dollar which continues its downward trend. He says laughing thru his tears. By end of March at this rate where you expect it to be?" Yeh, fair point, I heard our dollar was expected to drop as low as 70c per USD, Crikey ! lol.
  14. Typically, distortion is used on a clean channel, or low gain channels. And, OverDrive's are used on mid to high gain channels. As cbrfreak has stated, there is no right or wrong here, but, you'll save yourself alotta headaches if you stick to that.
  15. Hahaha. Man I hope he's not an Australian ! Might've had a 3rd world education if he is. :P On the subject of things, I love how Line6 give us a heads up about this a few months before they actually arrive. What's the story with that, are they curious to know what we think before dropping the goods ?
  16. bjnette "Business wise they have to charge enough to recoup costs and make some, then the price will likely go on special for those still on the fence or in poorer 3rd world Countries like Australia and just as likely a new pack(s) released. Its all good" As an Australian, I'm dumbfounded by this statement. In what context is Australia a 3rd world country ? LOL !
  17. You also have to remember, its companies that constantly update their electronics platforms all the time that invite such expectations. How do you expect people to think/consume the same as they did in the old days, when companies refresh their products in a system of planned obsolescence so frequently, takes 2 to tango IMO. cruisinon2, on 23 Jan 2015 - 5:19 PM, said:
  18. lol, yall shouldn't jump the gun in pro's and con's yet. Those who know better, know that final conclusions should only be drawn "AFTER" the new unit on the block is put through its paces, in due course, patience.
  19. "IT BETTER BE dB and Hz" isn't exactly a solid answer lol. Will that only apply to the global EQ, or all the EQ's ?
  20. Yup, good question, can you elaborate on this D.I. ?
  21. Ok so the 5150 tease during Christmas was a bit of a letdown for me personally. No-one mentioned the fact that it was going to be "part" of model pack that most assumed would never happen, let alone a huge delay in release, and thought it would be just included in the next firmware update, ok fine, fair enough. 4 - 5 years later, here they are. The part I can't understand is, why is the clean amps restricted to the vintage pack ? metal players need clean amps too. Can't we all at-least get a free clean/acoustic amp ? Mixed emotions about all this. Considering all packs ($100) is around %20 of the cost of an entire new HD500X, hardware and all, is it wise to spend so much on these ? The only thing I don't have mixed emotions on, is the global EQ, I'm happy bout that, even if the Db/Hz issue wasn't fixed.
  22. ts020572 "It is funny how customers want always more. I bought my POD HD500 for what it was at that time. Would someone buy a car and complain a year later that there are no new tires for free? ;) For the price, the POD is a great product. Some midi footswitches (Voodoo Lab or Rocktron) cost more than a POD 500!" I agree with gunpoint, this isn't a valid argument, never has been. Firmware presents a unique face on its own, it was "designed" for updates and bug-fixes from scratch. I'm not asking for anything free either, but I will pay for model and FX expansions, which seems to be missing out of the HD equation, which only leaves us firmware updates for models and fx, and lets not forget, bugs and fixes. Its a damn shame Line6 took a pass on expansions, I'd assume half these kind of threads would vanish. Would've also left me in the "now I can't complain anymore" camp, knowing I had supplements and options to delve into AFTER my purchase, simular to past generations. PS, god I wish Line6 would fix quotation for the latest IE, as long as I didn't have to pay for it....
  23. You have 3 main options. 1, Front-end the HD500 with the RC-3. (Mono). 2, Place the RC-3 in the HD500's internal FX-Loop. (Stereo). 3, Place the RC-3 at the main outputs. (Stereo). My personal choice is the FX-Loop. The POD HD's FX-Loop can be internally placed between any FX block within your signal chain, and maintain stereo at the same time. I find this handy when I want to either loop my final tone at the end, or loop a dry at the beginning for moments of tweaking, or anything in-between. It also releases you the most from changing cables around too often. You can feed the RC-3 with an aux signal, with a mix, you could run your soundcard to that. Conversely, you can feed the soundcards output into the aux of the HD500. But for a more direct answer to your question, yes you can loop 2 signals, but you have to pick the right cabling method, I/O, and mixing abilities. You might want to consider a Boss LS-2 for this fight.
