  1. Looking for anyone who has experience with the 4 cable method and using midi data with the Mesa triaxis and simul class 2 90. Specifically wiring for the pod controller into the fx loop of the triaxis via midi for the best results. Thanks
  2. Hi, i'm trying to control the channel switching on my Mark V via the Helix Effects instant blocks. I've figured out the function in general and the switching itself is working properly ( tip+ring for the wanted channel). The only problem i'm having is excessive humming (mind i already have two gates in my signal chain). I have seen a similar problem in this forum before, but the thread is some years old now. Does anyone know if there is a proper solution or are there just workarounds with external components? kind regards and thank you in advance olli
  3. I'm running my Helix floor into a synergy syn50/50 tube power amp into a mesa 2x12 recto cab and it sounds completely lifeless, almost like there's a low cut turned up all the way. I've checked global eq probably 20 times now, everything is good in my patches, there's only two settings on the power amp and neither have much of an impact. It's not like a picky tone preference thing, there's seriously something way off about it, any advice helps, thanks
  4. Hi guys, I am new to helix, Recently tried FRFR and wasn't sold on the sound for what Im doing. I want to use 4cm to my Mesa Boogie rectifier and I have hooked it all up. I set my commands up to change the channels of the amp VIA ext amp. I am experiencing tone suck which I can't get to the bottom of... The amp sounds cleanish on the dirty channel And also if I put FX after the loop (In screenshot pictured) the effects don't work at all? they work before the input signal but not after nothing at all. My Mesa has a serial loop could this be causing this? It only has a switch that says bypass or FX loop My global settings are (guitar pad) off (1/4 outputs - Line) (Instrument - Send return 1) and (Instrument - Send return 2) Basically all I want to do is be able to run effect before and after the amp... And use snapshots to make the helix change my amp channels between them Sorry if I sound silly there is probably a simple fix but Im really wanting to get it all up and running
  5. Hi all, I'm Chris. A couple days ago - and completely on a whim - I put in an offer on an HX Stomp and won it for a price I didn't expect. After a weekend spent searching for answers on how to make it work for my rig, I give up and this is my first post. I have a couple amplifiers and I've been looking for somewhat of an "all in one" pedalboard solution for a while. My main amp is a Mesa Triple Crown 50, which (as I'm sure many of you are aware) has MIDI channel switching capabilities, an FX loop, all that jazz. I've been looking at replacing a good chunk of my pedal board (SA Nemesis Delay, Boss DC-2w, Walrus Audio Lilian Phaser, EHX Pitch Fork, Wampler Ego Comp) for a while and don't doubt the HX series, on a high level, has what it takes to do the job. I intend on fully utilizing the 4-cable method to make the most of it. Here's my dilemma. The TC-50 is a three-channel amplifier and has MIDI control over channel switching, FX loop, reverb and solo boosts. In a perfect world, I would have access to all three channels and solo boost in various combinations along with various effects from the HX. Ideally, I'd be able to access 6-8 presets encompassing channel switching/effects combinations readily. I was sold on the HX Effects (due in part to the additional loop to add a fuzz/drive/gate pedal on top) until I read about latency when using MIDI to switch amp settings. The snapshot workaround isn't something that'd work for me when limited to 4 per preset. So, enter the need for a MIDI controller. I've looked at them all at this point, from Disaster Area to BOSS to Morningstar. It seems as though the Morningstar MC6 MKII is the gold standard. Here's the big question - can I use an external MIDI controller to switch amplifier channels while simultaneously pulling up different effects combinations on the HX Stomp/Effects without lag/latency issues? And, as an alternative, would there be any benefits to adding a Boss ES-8, if for nothing else, to be able to switch amplifier channels while sorting effects placement, if I added an overdrive/boost/etc pedal to the mix? Would an HX Effects/Morningstar combo make more sense for that? Agh! Thanks in advance -- I should also note that there's a decent chance I'm overthinking this. :)
  6. Download link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bfibnuenvsp7bwo/ML Sound Lab FREE Recto.zip?dl=0 Try it with this better free IR as well: http://bit.ly/MLSoundLab So I've been tweaking modelers for a long time and the way I build presets is pretty unique. I have a bunch of real tube amps around and there's nothing quite like the satisfaction of capturing that sound and recreating it perfectly with a modeler. Anyways have fun with the free sample of an ML Sound Lab Amp Pack and if you want to hear more about it please visit: http://www.ml-sound-lab.com
  7. Hi there this is my first post! I'm a proud owner of a Helix LT and today I shot a video comparing it to my Mesa Dual Recto, Axe-Fx III and Kemper. Spoiler alert: I can make them all sound pretty much identical with some specific tweaks. Download link for the free preset can be found in the YouTube description. Here's the video: If you're interested in trying out more of these types of presets please let me know. :)
  8. I'm looking to buy this Pedal line 6 Helix. I'm wondering if it's possible to switch channel with the helix Pedal ? I'm using a Mesa Boogie Mark V 35w with a cable Din 5 Pins (Midi) to the footswitch. It's only ways it can work, I've read Multiple thread about this, most are old (2016) or they are cabled with 1/4 jack ( My amp model dosn't have output in 1/4).
  9. Im trying to find a way to run my Helix LT live. Before i got it, my rig was a dual rectifier+ pedalboard into a Mesa 4x12, but i also use an EVH 5150iii and a Peavey 5150 both into their own EVH 4x12's for an overly bulky live stereo set up. Now, with the EVH/Peavey, i can plug into the fx return of both and get what i need coming out of the 4x12's, easily and simply like everyone says. But with my Dual Rectifier; holy cow is it noisy. Not only is there so much hissing, it is also just freakishly loud. By the time i get to 'room volume' the vol. knob on the helix is so low it isnt useful. Iv read somewhere on here about a guy with a Mesa Mark IV and it sounded like he had a similar problem, but a solution wasnt posted. i tried the 4cm, but im trying to bypass the head altogether so i can simulate one. The EVH+Peavey rigs are not mine, so i need to figure out the problem with my Mesa, or find a little FRFR setup; in which case i can use some power amp recommendations. Also getting a 50w EVH doesnt sound bad as i know i can plug straight into that fx return. Or am i simply overlooking something with the Dual Rec? Its an older model and isnt the quietest on it own; especially in the fx loop. But it should still be useful, right?
  10. Hello everyone. I need help with how to wire my newly purchased Line 6 Helix and all my other gear. I am somewhat new to setting up all these effects, cables, noisegates and whatnot.. I need a specific step by step way to connect following: Guitar, Line 6 Helix, Mesa Boogie Gridslammer (Overdrive pedal to tighten it up), Ernie Ball Volume pedal, Ibanez Weeping Demon (Wah pedal) , ISP Decimator Pro Rack G (Rack mounted noise gate with 2 channels - This is the one I am having issue with connecting properly), DBX 266 XL (Rackmounted compressor) and last but not least my Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier.... Which goes where? What goes in the loop? What does not? I could really use someone who knows his gear to help me with this cable nightmare. Thank you very much -Zilver90
  11. I have been trying for ages to get these 2 tones at home, same as i get on stage, (clean and drive channel). Any help greatly appreciated(i have a lot of GD's patches and marcos but nothing near it). Any ideas everyone. This is the video
  12. I just got my spider valve hd100. I am looking for someone to help me get a great metal tone to start till I can figure out my own tone as this thing has so much to offer. I am looking for a For Today, August Burns Red type of tone. I have not figured out how to hook up the head to the computer yet to download tones so am looking for someone to possibly share what their settings are at.
  13. First about me. I played for thirty five years. Owned almost every Marshall, Mesa, Fender + a lot of boutique amps ( Matchless, Bad Cat +++) Liked most of them, but Guitarist always want something new, right? Also worked for over 15 year selling guitars and amps. Now the Helix. While the Helix is my favorite toy and more than satisfying in my studio, I only used it as a pedalboard in live situations. It´s by far my best and most versatile pedalboard ever :-) Let me also mention that i do not use stereo setup live. My Problem: While some of you like it the FRFR thing does not work for me. Tried Line6, EV, Yamaha and other brands but i dont like the "miked" sound. My Solution: I stumbled over a old forgotten Mesa Boogie. The Simul Satellite. Made in the early 90´s for use with the Mesa Mark IV for a stereo setup. It´s like having a 112 cab with a built in power amp. And you can use it as a singel channel amp as well. It is Perfect for my needs. While most tube amps bypass the tonestack when using the effect return the Mesa Simul Satellite have a 5 band footswitchable eq + presence and a master volume. Switchable from 90w down to 15w The one i got also have the EV12L speaker. IMHO the best speaker ever..200w and clean no matter what i put in to it. To my ears it does not color the sound like my V30, Greenback ++ This is of course a matter of taste. Cons: With the 8.6 kg EV12L speaker it is a bit on the heavy side.( Not more than a quality 12" PA speaker) Have to choose between 6L6, EL34 or 6V6 tubes.( Can also mix 6L6 and EL34) Pros: It´s a tube amp made for the use of the effect loops!! Amp sounds good alone, and take pedals were well. Compact size. 15w to 90w . The EV12L sounds good from bedroom level to stage level. Can gig with only one amp, using different preamps in the Helix. Now i have the Helix amp simulations as a Backup for the Mesa, and my Tech 21 fly rig 5 as a backup for the backup. Hope this can help others "old school" BluesRock players like me out there searching...
  14. Howdy all, _Apologies moderators if this is in the wrong forum.. figured it might get a few more hits if it’s in the main forum_.. Having been part of the Fractal Forum (however no longer because I’m a loud and proud HELIX user J), and Kemper Forum, and now the Line 6 Helix forum, I’ve noticed that in particular here in the Helix forum, there’s a huge amount of FRFR discussions, but there’s minimal discussions about players that don’t necessarily use FRFR. This could quite easily be because the bigger majority of players in this Line 6 forum ARE mainly FRFR users/players. This isn’t an anti-FRFR topic or discussion, it’s more about expanding on this forum and perhaps growing the capabilities of the Helix and sharing wins/strategies/tones etc etc. On the Fractal and Kemper forums, there are many discussions about FRFR, but there’s also a lot of discussions and banter about power amps + cabs + Kemper or Axe FX, _not just FRFR_. Is it worth having a forum or chat room for the players that mainly use their Helix rig in a non-FRFR situation? It’s all well and good to download and trade patches with one another that are FRFR; however from what I can ascertain on this forum, at least 90% of all things discussed is FRFR based, with not a lot of input on power amp + cab + Helix and so forth. Again, having owned and played all 3 modellers, I personally keep resorting back to a valve power amp + cab + Helix because that not only works for me, but the band that I play in as well. FRFR is the perfect bedroom solution (which a majority of us forum’ites are, presumably), however, I just think it’d be good to have a place to chat, trade ideas etc that are not always FRFR based.. Food for thought I guess..
  15. Hey guys, I know I know, lots of players are really digging FRFR/cabs sims etc, but for my purposes, I'm really digging using amp sims IN CONJUNCTION with my VHT 2/50/2 power amp. Just curious to know if there's other players out there, as the title suggests, that use their Helix with a valve (or even solid state) power amp, AND IF SO, are you using it in a band? Last question, as far as hi-gain tones are concerned, what amp sims do some of you use for this? Thanks.

  17. So I went back to the very first Mesa Recto IR and tried to figure out why it sounded SO different than the newer ones I was making. Turns out that I made the beginner "mistake" of not turning off the Mesa Dual Rectifier amp in Amplitube when I was just trying to IR the cab! So I have made a newer version of that first Mesa Cab+Amp IR applying some lessons learned since the first one. I think this clearer and more usable version of it. Try it with just a Cali Rectifier Preamp block too! Sounds killer. Be sure to experiment with the IR samples, low cut, and high cut. Again, a happy mistake leads to new IR possibilities. I don't know where the heck to go with this now. Helix preamps and AT power amp/cab IR's? Waters=muddied! Note that playing the IR by itself does not sound like a full amp at all. Maybe closer to a power amp and cab. It is really is its own beast. Attached the IR Mesa Recto Amp Cab_hx.wav to this post and uploaded to Dropbox. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/009bkqzooza1aop/AACk9ahjlUJzadRvQlRwGzL0a/IR/Mesa%20Recto%20V30%20SM57?dl=0 Mesa Recto Amp Cab_hx.wav
  18. Hi all. Weird issue here -- I have a newer HD500X and when I plug it into my Mesa Single Rec half stack, I get a crazy loud pulsing buzz. Works great when I run the same line out to my audio interface This buzz happens whether the line 6 has power or not, and with all cables or just the line out plugged into the amp input (both L & R). I tried multiple cable brands/lengths, all the way down to 5'. I tried different pedals and had no issues. I tried flipping the physical switches on the HD. I tried multiple outlets in the house on different breakers. The house is newer and we've never had electricity flow issues. Unfortunately I don't have any other amps to try, but I can always run down to the local Music Go Round if it comes down to it. I've been running live multi-effects setups with amps for years and never experienced anything like this. Video clip below. Anyone have any suggestions? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7R3fIg1iJDc
  19. Here is a video I did showing the difference changing only the cab from stock to 3rd party can make. There is no post processing on the guitars at all so you can hear the real difference. All amp settings were kept the same.
  20. Hi. I just recently purchased a Line 6 Spider iv 150w amp, and i've heard that i can get a decent Mesa Boogie sound from it. If anyone can share if they've been able to do this with the amp, i would very much appreciate the Settings you used. Thank you
