Do i need phantom power for to use my Helix? Will it damage it?
gergoretvari posted a topic in Helix
I'm running through my helix lt to my focusrite scarlet solo via XLR and using phantom power, because otherwise the guitar sounds like it's "not enabled". I always used this method for almost a year now. Some guy told me that this will damage my unit. Is this true? Should i be concerned or i'm fine on how i use it?- 6 replies

Hi! So, I have been seriously considering buying Helix LT from Thomann, since its under 900€ there. How ever, I have never used these amp modeling units before, and my understanding of them is pretty limited. So, my question is: How would I setup the Helix LT to be able to use headphones, and play along with Spotify tracks on my PC? Just to be super clear, i want to hear BOTH Helix and Spotify from my headphones at the same time (duh) I do have a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2nd gen audio interface which I plug my headphones into when normally using my PC. So would I need to connect the Helix to the Focusrite? If so, should I connect it to the microphone, or instrument slot? Or will it be enough to just connect the Helix to my PC with the USB cable, and then plug headphones into the Helix? I live in an apartment, so being able to use headphones and play along to music that way is a "must have" feature for me. I have been using amp sim softwares like Bias Amp before, and with those I have just plugged my guitar into my pedalboard, and the pedalboard into my Focusrite interface and that's it. Thank you so much for your help! I am really looking forward to getting the Helix if what I described is possible with it.

In stomp mode (aka Performance View) the effect block (e.g. of an EQ) turns gray as soon as I assign its parameter 'Level' to a footswitch. Of course I can select another color for the LED ring of the footswitch, but the block still remains gray. Is there a way to change the color of an effect block in this scenario? Of course it works properly if I assign the 'Bypass' function to a footswitch, i.d. the block appears in the same color as the footswitch LED. The issue is with the Helix LT running the most recent firmware. P.S.: I found an old posting from 2017, that basically addresses the same issue, but it doesn't really provide a solution

The Re-Amped Signal sound somewhat "gated". Peaks are the same but it has less sustain and notes die off earlier. Also Gates in the signal chain close when they didn't in the original. The Re-Amping feed track in my DAW has Mono Output 7 and 0.0 dB Gain. My Patch has Input USB 7/8. I checked for Signal loss due to sending the DI only over Out 7 instead of Out7/8, but everything is fine at unity gain, an empty patch gives me back my DI with the same peak values. I am quite disappointed about the Re-Amping function since it could be such a neat feature but apparently comes at the price of signal loss! I hope this can be fixed! Hi guys, I have recently buy a Helix LT, It sounds great so far and I love it, I have used Line 6 since more than 10 years ago, my first pedal board was the XT Live and then I got the HD500X, those were great as well, I had no problem with them but it seems like the helix is a little bit more complicated in terms of software, my LT has the 2.71 firmware, I download the editor and the latest driver I could find here, I installed everything with the Helix unplugged, I can see the helix as part of my external devices but when I try to use the editor I'm getting a message saying "no device connected", happened the same thing with the Line 6 updater, the screen is all black as if no device was connected. Am I missing something?, Do I need to do or install something else?. Thanks in advance.

Hello there! I'm at the beginning of starting my guitar cover videos, and I heard about preset changing through MIDI without having to use the footswitches. (I'm using Reaper) How can i achieve it, that when i'm recording my guitar my preset changes through MIDI automatically? Thanks in advance!

I have helix lt so it has only one volume knob. My issue was that all amps sounded very weak and i was unsatisfied with any of them. Suddenly i figured out that if i change headphones monitor setting from multi to 1/4 the sound became not only much louder but also fuller. Is this intended behavior? It was not very intuitive to figure out since i always had my volume knob turned up half way and i though that something is wrong either with my gear or the unit. But after changing this setting volume doubled. Thanks

Hello community, I don't know if it's possible on Helix LT. If so, how can footswitch 1 bank up and footswitch 7 bank down be permanently lit, so that I can find them more easily when playing in a very dark place? Thank you in advance for your help. Cordially.

Apologies if this is already covered in the forum but I didn't see this specific topic during my searches. On Helix LT, I use modes for each song in a set with different snapshot in each mode. When switching modes to go to the next song, the Helix stays on the same snapshot number and I have to scroll back down to snapshot 1. Is there a way to automatically go to snapshot 1 when switching modes? Thanks

Requires MIDI Designer Pro 2 (IOS app, sold separately) Full tactile control over your Helix using MIDI over Bluetooth or MIDI-USB connections. Hardware and Software requirements: Line 6 Helix, Helix LT or Helix Rack MIDI Designer Pro 2 (IOS App, sold separately) Apple iPad MIDI Interface (wireless or wired) Changes Log: 1 August 2021 - Updated to 1.2 Save and Mode buttons added (requires firmware 3.10 or later) New Helix LT layout included (replaces FS3 slider with a View button) 16 January 2021 - Updated to 1.1 Improved design BlueBoard screen added Extended visual Input: Now this Layout can receive CC69 (Snapshots), values [0,1,2] if you have configured your device to send such data in Command Center. The same is applied to CC1 and CC2 (EXP pedals). These changes must be saved per preset basis in your device. Recommended MIDI Interfaces: Wireless: Yamaha MD-BT01 or CME WIDI Master Wired (using Helix USB): Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter Wired (MIDI to USB): Roland UM-ONE MKII + Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter Included support (optional): Embedded suport for the IK Multimedia Blueboard Bluetooth LE Modes: Mode B (Half/Full speed, Undo/Redo, Play/Stop, Rec/Overdub) Mode C (Snapshots 1-4) Includes a Small MIDI implementation to replicate the BlueBoard behaviour with any other configurable MIDI device (Airturn, Airstep, Pirate MIDI Bridge6/4, Morningstar, etc) A bit of tech stuff: The operation of this MIDI Layout is based on the current MIDI implementation available on Line 6 Helix devices. This means that the limits of what or how can be controlled are determined by the manufacturer (to a large extent). The practical translation of this fact is that: There are some functions in the Helix that are not controllable, simply because there is no CC assigned to whatever. There are some things in the Helix that receive MIDI but they do not send it. A clear example are the footswitches (FS). For this reason, it is not possible to show a synchronized status (on/off) on the controller's screen. For this type of controls, it will only be possible to send a status change message, so the buttons will be of a momentary type. Helix does not send the names of presets or setlists via MIDI -something that would normally use SYSEX messages or the Line 6's own protocol. Description: 1- Main Screen. From this screen you can control the main functions of your Helix. Some elements receives the MIDI information that your Helix sends and display it on the screen, such as bank and program changes. Others are used to send commands to activate and deactivate elements such as footswitches. A few elements are bi-directional, such as looper controls (broken feature in the 3.0/3.01 Firmware. Waiting for the upcoming 3.1 Helix firmware update). As you already know, the Helix does not send us the setlists names. However, you will be able to rename your Setlists on the controller easily from this screen, simply by pressing the "Setlist" button to write names coincident with those of your Helix. 2-Setlist Screen The main function of this screen is to navigate comfortably between the eight banks of your Helix, but we can also select a preset in each of the 8 banks, and toggle between them at the touch of a button. There are also controls that receive information from your Helix, like these three large screens showing the current MIDI PC, Bank, and Preset (ABCD). The eight Snapshots and the most relevant looper controls are also present here. 3- Preset Screen On this screen, the idea is to have quick and immediate access to all the Presets (and Setlists) of your Helix. Snapshot selection controls are also present, as well as the looper, tap tempo and tuner buttons. 4- BlueBoard Screen This new screen provides embedded support for the iRig BlueBoard. Two units can be used simultaneosly. A small MIDI implementation is also included, to use with any other configurable MIDI controller (Airturn, Airstep, Pirate MIDI Bridge, Morningstar...) Hello everyone. :) Im not satisfied with internal noise gate. For high gain djenty riffs with 10 ms decay I cannot get rid of stuttering artefacts when the gate is closing. So I bought TC Electronic Sentry noise pedal and Im trying to figure out how to set it up correctly with Helix LT. I tried to put it in front of the helix, and even in FX Loop in helix chain between overdrive and amp and every time I cannot get rid of the noice/hiss. When I activate pedal, only about 20% of the noise disappears and the gate isnt shutting down as quickly as it should. I couldnt figure out how to connect the pedal to helix by two chain method as in attached picture. Im not sure if there is something wrong with the pedal or if Im doing something wrong. I understand that I should connect it to preamp to eliminate the hiss completely but dont know if its even possible with Helix. Thank you for any advice! :)

Hi, I'm enjoying the LT very much. Thought I would share my MIDI control mapping for the Helix LT now that version 3.15 includes control of the encoders. Hope it's helpful! Nick Helix LT CC Mapping (For version 3.15).pdf

I'm new to this so I should apologize before hand. I can't find any specific information regarding how to setup a vocal mic into the Helix LT, with a guitar. I was told it can be done, there's tons of forums and video related to this regarding impedance issues or for the Helix floor. If anyone could help, guide me to a resource of any kind it would be greatly appreciated. Can't find anything related to this in the manual as well. I admit Im a noob, what am I'm missing here. Please help, thanks!!!

Hi there, does any one out there know the best EQ settings on a Yamaha QL5 with Helix LT for live performance. I've been playing on church for a while and the sound engineer is average on knowledge about sound reinforcement, the problem is that every time we play my sound is terrible, to bright and does not sound natural as it should be on a Helix (I use a power cab+ on my home and its a joy what you can hear on that cab) so I really like to sound the same. The lead guitar player is connected direct too with no amp, no amp simulator, just his pedal board and the last on the chain is BigSky and he's sound is good, I don't envy it, I just want to have a good sound and enjoy playing. So please 911, If any one knows please share

Hi All, Got a weird one, or maybe im just being thick... Running my Helix with a JVM410H ONLY IN THE EFFECTS LOOP! So signal chain is; Guitar - Front of JVM - JVM send > Helix return - Helix Send > JVM Return I have the helix set up with the flow being; Input (Return 2) - Volume pedal - Chorus - Reverb - Delay - EQ - Noise Gate - Output (Send 1) When I play a note on my OD1 Channel on the JVM with the delay im getting a distorted delay? surely it shouldn't be distorted it should be a clean delay afterwards? Hi all Since upgrading to Helix I've come across an issue with one of my guitars. I have four guitars, three of them have active circuits with mags and piezo, and one of them is a standard passive circuit. One of the active guitars has hot pickups, so when I plug in into Helix, the input indicator flashes red and the sound is distorted like it's breaking up, even on clean tones (or with no amp). It seems the Helix just can't handle the signal coming from the guitar. Things to note: This didn't happen when I owned the Firehawk FX, only since using Helix. It happens on all patches, factory or user It's mainly when the strings are strummed hard, but you can hear it affecting the tone quite dramatically. It does not affect the piezo, which I run through the FX Return input. It's only when the mags are selected going through the guitar input. I have tried the Guitar Pad option on and off, it doesn't seem to change anything. The only solution I have found is to roll back the volume pot a little, but this is not an ideal solution TBH. None of the other three guitars are affected. Are there any other ways to reduce the input signal through the Helix? Thanks!

I got a Helix lt and after not connecting it to the pc after a while i noticed that the hx edit and the updater does not recognize it, i tried restarting the usb ports along with many other things. ( both programs are up to date) and nothing gives. In the device manager it gives me something like msg pipe, and i tried everything under the sun to troubleshoot it and nothing.

Hello. I was wondering if any of you have experienced any issues with the headphone output of the Helix LT or Helix Floor? I have an Helix LT connected as an audio interface to my Windows 10 laptop. I only use headphones and like to jam along with YouTube and guitar pro and recently when I listen to a preset through my headphones connected to the output jack of my Helix LT, the panning/volume is all wonky and is not balanced with the right side noticeably louder than the left. The issue is across all my patches including factory and user). The issue seems to be volume related, if you crank up the amp or add a distortion block it seems to pan harder to the right and becomes very off putting. If you turn the volume knob below 12 o’clock the panning balances better, turn the volume knob up to 3 o’clock or to full then panning is almost hard right and I can hardly hear anything from the left as if you’ve have duff headphones. As a temporary work around I have to pan the output block at the end the chain by at least 30% to the left to balance the sound. I've tried different 1/4 inch adapters and different headphones, I have some in ear monitors and a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 pro 250 ohm and the issue persists. I have even sought a second opinion from my wife who agrees there is Definitely a panning/volume issue. There is no problems when listening to music and videos from YouTube etc. It only affects my guitar patches. Also, this seemingly started happening out of nowhere. I do not recall making any changes to global settings, but perhaps that is where the problem is? I am updated to firmware version 2.92 and have been since it was released. Out of desperation I have completed a factory reset and even rolled back the firmware to 2.8 and reinstalled 2.92 with no joy and I am now worried it may be a hardware issue. Everything has been working fine until now. If anybody could help me figure this out, I would really appreciate it! Thank you.

I’ve been gigging with Helix LT for several years just fine (XLR left output direct into mixer). At band practice last night volume decreased and then came back, and it started clicking/popping. Then it stopped working. No sound. Then bottom row of buttons made some noise, and top row worked ok, then stopped again. Same when changing banks. Tried power off – nope, change guitar cable – nope. Then it began working like normal, but had a few seconds randomly dropping out. Seems to be working fine now, but I am skeptical. Any ideas what the problem is? Thanks, Joel

Hello there I recently purchased the Helix LT and I have been enjoying it both for playing at home, and for party gigs. I realised that I can practise in my room by connecting it through the USB, and play through my jbl LSR305 monitors, which really sounds great, and also gives convenient parameter control through the HX edit software. A recurring error is however stifling my enthusiasm. When I've been playing for say 5-10 minutes, the Helix freezes and becomes unresponsive. In the HX edit software it disconnects from the device, and refuses to recognise that the helix is still connected. The sound goes through unaltered, but I can now no longer change parameters, and to access this again I have to reboot the pedal (discarding possible changes). This is really problematic, as it essentially removes the functionality that I want from the pedal, and googling it has yielded no results. Does anyone have similar experiences? My specs are: Helix LT is running v2.54.0 firmware. 13'' MacBook pro running high sierra 10.13.5 HX edit v. 2.52 playing through Logic Pro X v. 10.2.0 Best, Jonas

Hello, For a live use, in order to be able to benefit at the same time from its amp in return, and at the same time of a direct connection towards the sound system. Is it possible to use the "4 cables" method with a direct connection to the sound system? The 4 cables method allows to insert some effects in the loop of the amp (without the amp and cabinet simulations) The direct connection allowing to have the effects and the amp and cabinet simulations. Thank you for your feedback, I did not find any information on this "combined" connection. If it is possible, would it be possible to have a picture of the 2 channels? Thank you in advance for your help

I'm deciding between the Helix and the Helix LT, and now I have this question. These are my current needs: the XLR and 1/4" to be always at full volume – ie. not being adjusted by the volume knob; the headphones to be adjusted by the volume knob. Question: Is it possible to be done on the Helix LT? Page 65 of the manual says: ... but there is no mention if the headphone volume will still be controlled by the volume knob.

How sturdy is the Helix LT expression pedal? I'm afraid that this seems kind of "soft"... can you really step on and do a wah solo or change modulations efectcs with confidence? Of course, all whithin normal-careful use, not talking about being rude with the unit. Thank you.
