  1. Hey all, Yesterday I reinstalled all my music software on a new PC and discovered something interesting.. By accident, I had only enabled output 1 and output 2 while setting up the Helix ASIO driver in reaper for my Helix LT floorboard. I was recording guitar, using headphones and hardware monitoring and by accident enabled record monitoring in reaper as well. This made my tones HUGE and brought an almost stereo-like width to my patches. After jamming out for some time.. I realised my mistake and enabled outputs 1 to output 8 like usually recommended, which in turn, made combined hardware monitoring and record monitoring sound lollipope again. I have tried studying the Helix LT bible (manual), but I am not sure i completely understand what is going on here. I hope someone with a bit more technical knowledge can help me out? :-) Cheers
  2. I have recently purchased Helix Native in its 1.82 version and upgraded my Helix LT to 2.82. I was hoping to control Helix Native directly from my Helix LT, (switch Helix native presets from footswitches, use EXP pedal....) but i did not find any indication that this feature was existing. Can somebody tell me if this is possible ? or will it be possible soon ?
  3. Hello All - Writing to get some expertise on an issue I'm having with the 6 button looper on the Helix (LT if it matters)... The issue is simple, and I hope there's a simple answer but I can't for the life of me figure out what happened. When engaging the six button looper that has been assigned to one of the stomp switches the looper interface used to come onto the screen and show me which foot switches were assigned to effects/rec/stop ect. But this is no longer the case... NOW when I hit the looper the foot switches will light up - like they should, showing the looper is armed, and it does work - but the screen remains on the signal chain view, and I get confused... What did I do? How do I get the looper interface to come back onto the screen!?
  4. Hey, guys I just updated my Helix LT from 2.60 to 2.82 and saw in the instructions that in order to get the new presents from 2.80(?) I need to restore my Helix presets and then restore my backup (yes I made one) to get my custom presets back. My question is are the "new" presets worth the hassle? I never used any of the original presets and just immediately started crafting my own and downloading user-made presents since day one. But curiosity has me wondering if there is anything amazing in the newer presets I could be missing out on. What are your thoughts?
  5. Hello all, I know this topic has probably been covered, but I couldn't find all the answers I was looking for. First, I am strictly an at home hobbyist with no gigging aspirations in the near or distant future yet. I have not been playing guitar very long, but I was looking to upgrade my amp and stumbled upon the helix route. It intrigues me because I feel I can get more tones at lower volumes than a tube amp. Also, I like to play a lot of different styles (John Mayer all the way to high gain stuff Killswitch, Tool ect), so the amp/cab simulation might be a better route than having multiple amps and pedals. So I have a couple questions. 1. Stomp, LT, or Floor? Is the Stomp too limiting with 6 blocks? Will I be looking to upgrade to a bigger model in a year as my effects and playing knowledge increases, or is it perfect for my situation? For a regular Joe schmo, is the floor worth the extra money over the LT? (I am in no rush to buy right away, I want to do my research, and will save the money to buy what's best for my situation.) Also, any disadvantages to buying used when it comes to software/registering the unit? 2. For my situation, do I get studio monitors or a FRFR PA like the headrush units. I want to be able to play/ practice without having to wear headphones all of the time. What would sound best for all genres at moderate volumes? Any brands or suggestions (Moderately priced) 3. What's the deal with a headphone amp? Saw someone say the LT does not have a headphone amp and that they would need a separate one. Do I need one to use headphones in my scenario? 4. Last one, a lot of people say you will not get the "amp in the room sound" and will sound like a amp micced up through a PA. What exactly does that mean. For me, the new inexperienced player, will I even be able decipher the difference because my ear isn't trained? I've never micced the amp I have now. I know to some, these questions may seem elementary, but I'm ignorant in the multi effects realm and still green in the amp/pedal/gear world. I was just looking to avoid playing the tone chasing GAS game if the Helix can cover a lot of the ground. I also know a lot of people will tell me that I have to try them. I respect that, but I want your guys advice because I am so Uneducated in the area of multieffects, I'm not even sure I could make that decision solely off 30 minutes to an hour of noodling around with a unit in a store. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
  6. Last week the exp pedal on my LT started getting tighter and tighter, and today it just stopped working. The pedal is still tight, and although it goes up and down it just stopped working (the click to swap between exp 1 and 2 is still fine). The pedal being tight shouldn't be much of an issue, probably fixable if i loosen up the screw on the side, but I think this looks like a problem with the optical sensor of the exp pedal. As far as I know we don't have any official line 6 customer service here in Spain and I bought it used, so no warranty whatsoever. Trying to come up with some DIY solutions, so I would love to hear your feedback Cheers!

Does helix lt work on 240v?
  8. Does anybody know what the maximum time for the looper in the helix units is? How long can I record a riff before the capacity of the looper is reached. On the Spider IV for example it was only 60 sec.. I hope line6 hasn't saved the couple of cents this time and invested in the length of the looping. It is an important feature.
  9. Don't worry, this isn't me asking if I can use it as an interface. I know I can and it's better than the 200$ focusrite or presonus I can afford (it was like 1300$ for helix and headrush frfr 108). I was wondering what else I need to use it as an interface. I have a razer laptop with an i7 and gtx 1070 and klipsch pro media 2.1 thx but I was wondering if I should invest in studio monitors and what else would be a good investment for my rig and studio.
  10. Hi guys, I have recently buy a Helix LT, It sounds great so far and I love it, I have used Line 6 since more than 10 years ago, my first pedal board was the XT Live and then I got the HD500X, those were great as well, I had no problem with them but it seems like the helix is a little bit more complicated in terms of software, my LT has the 2.71 firmware, I download the editor and the latest driver I could find here, I installed everything with the Helix unplugged, I can see the helix as part of my external devices but when I try to use the editor I'm getting a message saying "no device connected", happened the same thing with the Line 6 updater, the screen is all black as if no device was connected. Am I missing something?, Do I need to do or install something else?. Thanks in advance.
  11. Hi, fellow Helixoids! I've just released 13 new Helix sound sets, available at the Helix Marketplace. I've taken an unusual approach: While we all know that Helix is great at mimicking classic analog gear, I've been exploring Helix as the unique and powerful instrument it is, with an emphasis on startling new tones that could only have been created in Helix. I think these sounds will appeal to restlessly creative players in search of new tones and textures. (Admittedly, they're probably not suitable for REO Speedwagon cover bands.) Each board sell for $13 and has its own demo video at the above link. There's also a combo back offering all 13 sets at a 40% discount. Its demo video, which provides a taste of all 13 products, is a good starting point if you're curious. Thanks for listening! :)
  12. So I’m in a dilemma that I’m hoping someone can help me out with. I play in 2 metal bands that practice at separate rehearsal studios and I am looking for a second rig for the other studio so I was looking into getting the hx stomp or the helix lt but can’t decide which one would be a better fit. Since I play metal I don’t use a ton of effects but maybe if I had more options I would use them more. I mostly just use a high gain profile on my kemper, a clean profile and a lo-fi profile but to be honest the kemper Is not known for its effects so I was thinking the hx stomp might be cool to use as a second rig at the other studio and since it’s so portable I could use it with the kemper as well. The only issue is that since I use real cabinets I use power amps because my kemper is not powered and neither is the hx stomp but the hx stomp doesn’t have an xlr output to plug into my power amp however the helix lt does. Is there anyway hook the hx stomp up to my power amp without using an xlr? Would a 1/4 jack to xlr work? what I’m really getting down to is which one would you guys suggest for my situation the helix lt or the hx stomp? Would the hx stomp be a good stand alone rig if I can run it through a power amp or would it just be better to get the helix lt? Sorry for the long post. I wanted to try and be as specific as possible. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks!
  13. Hello, Quick backstory: Had a tube amp - EVH 5150 III with a 212 Hesu cab and a pretty nice pedalboard. Sold it because I don't want to do bands and gigs for a while - I rather focus on my music, alone. So the tube amp had to go. I was either going to buy a Kemper or the Fractal, because "Line 6 can't do metal well", according to some folks on the internet, but something told me to hear it for myself. I ended up buying a Helix. I did a LOT of research before buying it though - I saw presets being made, IRs being loaded, how to mess with global settings. In less than an hour after I unpacked it I created a great modern 7 string tone (Had to use external IRs - ML Sound Lab MEGA oversize pack). It rips. This goes out to everybody who's looking for a modern-proggy-and-quiety solution. Buy the Helix. Oh, and I just want to mention that I was VERY dissapointed with it for the first 10 minutes. I was like "Did I just buy a POD FARM 2.5?". Turned out High a low cuts at IR blocks are the key. I started with 80 Hz for lows and 14k for high with my 7 string. What cut ranges do you guys recommend? I have just one question. Now i don't plan on using it anytime soon, but how the hell do I "unblock" the expression pedal? It's still, stiff. Can't move it at all. I found some kind of allen wrench. How do I proceed? Thank you! Chris
  14. So...I updated my HX Edit and my Helix LT to 2.80, and everything was good. Then I updated the HX Edit to 2.81. When I attempted to update my Helix LT to 2.81, the HX Edit showed me a "No Connection" error. The same error occurred with the Line 6 Updater. Really weird. I've since uninstalled and reinstalled both the Line 6 Updater and HX Edit, but I'm still experiencing the "No Correction" error. Any insights? I've googled it, but no answers. I also have a Tech Support ticket in with Line 6, but I won't hear back from them until probably Tuesday. Thanks everybody...
  15. Hello Helix-Users First, I have to apologize for my poor English. Since april 2018 I use a helix LT with a powercab 112 plus (midi cable connected). I‘m very happy with it. BUT: last weekend i upgrade the helix lt and powercab firmwares (helix lt => 2.81 and powercab => 2.00.1). After the upgrade, the powercab doesn‘t change the right powercab-speaker over midi. I doesn‘t find out what the problem is! I do the follow steps to find the problem: 1) reset powercab 112 plus to factory defaults 2) reset helix lt to factory defaults (press FS7 and FS8 and then turn on the Helix lt) 3) OK, then I activate Preset 1A, then switched the powercab to channel 000 I active Preset 1B, then the powercab switched to channel 001 1C => channel 002 1D => channel 003 2A => channel 004 [...] 32D => channel 127 you see, every Helix Preset ist already connected with a powercab speaker preset. 4) I created a simple Marschall-Amp Preset (1A) on the Helix. In „commands“ I made a midi command to change the powercab-preset to 017 (Greenback). 5) then I activate the Preset 1A. Helix load the Marshall Amp and send a midi comand to the powercab. The powercab switched first in the 000 channel and after automatic in the 017 channel. Why change the powercab first in the FRFR channel (000) and then in the 017 greenback channel (changing time used, <1 second). 6) I create other Presets in the Presets 1D and 32D. In these channel the powercab change first in the channel 004 (Preset 1D) and after in the 017. In Preset 32D the powercab change first in the channel (127) and after in the 017. In some Presets I must press two times the footswitch-knob. First time the powercab load the „standard“ Speaker (look point 3) ). Second time the powercab changed to the programmed channel (ex. 017) I tested these also without USB connections with my Macbook. I disconnect also the XLR soundcable (Helix LT -> Powercab), only the midi connection between Helix and powercab. The problem remains the same. Why the powercab change two times? In Firmware 2.71 I had never problems with it. the midi commands works fine. How I must configurate the Helix LT, the Presetchange works fine? Any ideas? Thank you! Greetings from Switzerland Pady
  16. I bought a MIDI cable today, plugged in my Whammy into my Helix LT (with both MIDI and through the FX-loop), set the MIDI CC accodingly to the Whammy 5 manual, but I can't get it to work. I made a test footswitch with FS9 to switch the whammy into Haromny + OCT up (CC 63, Value 127), but it doesn't do anything. Changing from MIDI in to MIDI thru on the Helix didn't help either.
  17. I'm a relative novice when it comes to recording guitar and amps. Up to this point I've been recording my guitar/amp with an SM57 & USB Interface direct to Garageband and am happy with the results. I've been messing around with recording the Helix and the tone is different compared to what I'm hearing out of my amp (DSL40C). It doesn't matter if I'm using my amp, or using a preamp in the Helix and going directly into the FX return, the recorded tone is always brighter and slightly fuzzier. I run the audio out from my mac into a Kenwood receiver and I have Bose speakers so it's not like I'm listening through the bullt-in computer speakers. Also, I don't have this problem when I record with the mic - so I'm pretty sure I can rule out the Mac and speakers. I'm less concerned about adjusting the settings on the Helix to get a good recorded tone as I would imagine I should be able to do that with some tweaking. I'm more concerned if I'm playing live using my amp onstage and also XLR to the FOH (If I'm mic'ing the amp, no worries). If I set my tones based on what I'm hearing from the amp, is it going to be bright and fuzzy through the PA? Or, if I adjust for the PA, am I going to have a more muted sound coming from the amp. I guess one solution is setup parallel paths - one for the amp and one for XLR - and put EQ's at the end to adjust each path separately. If I can I'd rather avoid that so that I'm not tweaking a bunch of patches/snapshots each time I play somewhere. I'm currently not playing out, however, I may have something in the works so I'd like to get all this ironed out before that starts. Is this common or is it something I'm doing, or not doing?
  18. I just ordered a Helix LT yesterday and I am very new to modelers. What is the best way to hook up the Helix through a Fender Hot Rod Deville? I don't know much about the 4CM and just wanted the best advice on what to do. Thanks
  19. After updating to 2.80, I changed the global settings for footswitches back to the 8 snapshot mode I previously had. However, now when I navigate between the snapshots using the footswitches, the LEDs don't show me which snapshot I am on (nor does any of the signal chain update on screen). It does switch between the snapshots though, as I can obviously hear the difference - but it does effectively mean I can only view one snapshot, so if I want to make changes to any of the others I have to guess what settings I am using. Has anybody come across something similar? Any idea how to fix it?
  20. What actually happens to the 2 extra assigned footswitches of the regular Helix when imported into the Helix LT? Does it just drop the assignments to fs1 and fs7?

    Helix vs Helix LT

Hello all, This questions would have been raised I presume many times and I have looked through all the internet. I have watched youtube videos and so on but I can't make up my mind. I currently play guitar, bass (active bass mostly) and various other instruments. However, one thing stops me, the price... in Euros 400€ difference for just a "few things" they say. But I read a lot, the pedal is better, the scribble strips is amazing and the amount of various type of inputs/outputs is over amazing. I want to know, should I pay 400 more "just" for that or is it going to be an utter waste of money? Please ask me questions if you want. I'll be happy to answer if that means you can guide me more to my purchase. I play with Fender Strats, and Teles. I have also few basses but my main one is an active Ibanez Thank you! A Helix dreamer from France
  22. My google fu has been failing me on this question, so figured I'd bring it here. How many blocks does the Helix LT have?
  23. Hi all, I've seen some discussion on this, but nothing so far that has been able to help me figure this out. I just downloaded HX Edit and bought the OwnHammer 412 Rect IR pack. I'm pretty sure I have everything updated and am signed in, but keep getting the following error message when I try to import them: HX Edit was unable to import IRs in this set due to following errors: -8209 - Service does not support the requested function. Any ideas? I have the Line 6 Updater, although it doesn't show any devices that I can update. It currently shows that I'm running Helix LT 2.30 and HX Edit 2.71. Thanks in advance for the help!
  24. Hi - Relative newbie here. I have set up a new patch using a US Deluxe Normal with a little drive, great clean tone that just gets to breakup. Before that in the chain, I'm using send-receive out to a drive pedal that I really like, with the drive low but the volume high, to really push the US Deluxe and it works really great, sounds wonderful. (I realize I could prob do this with the Minotaur just as easily, since i'm mostly using the pedal to push the volume). However, my issue is that (of course) when I bring in the drive pedal it doesn't just raise the crunch, but it really raises the volume a fair amount. Is there a way to push the amp without raising the volume as much? I could obviously turn the volume down on the pedal, but that'd result in pushing the amp less and lose some of the great crunch. I thought of maybe adding a volume effect later in the chain after the amp and reducing the volume and tying that to the same foot switch/button, not entirely sure how to do that. Maybe there's another/better way to do this? I certainly don't mind a little volume boost, but right now it's too much. (Makes things sound really quiet/flat when I turn it off). Any help appreciated. Ed
  25. Now online!: https://gum.co/HelixMidiController This is a premium MIDI template made for the Line 6 Helix devices. Hardware and software requirements: - Line 6 Helix (Floor, Rack, LT) - Apple iPad - MIDI Interface (Wireless: Yamaha MD-BT01. Wired: Roland UM-ONE MKII + Apple CCK USB3 read here for some suggestions) - MIDI Designer PRO 2 (IOS app, sold separately) Early notes: V1.0 is online!! PDF manual coming soon. Lifetime support, future updates will be free for existing costumers. A bit of tech stuff: The operation of this MIDI template is based on the current MIDI implementation available on Line 6 Helix devices. This means that the limits of what or how can be controlled are determined by the manufacturer (to a large extent). The practical translation of this fact is that: There are some functions in the Helix that are not controllable, simply because there is no continuous controller (CC) assigned to whatever. There are some things in the Helix that receive MIDI but they do not send it. A clear example are the footswitches (FS). For this reason, it is not possible to show a synchronized status (on/off) on the controller's screen. For this type of controls, it will only be possible to send a status change message, so the buttons will be of a momentary type. Helix does not send the names of presets or setlists via MIDI -something that would normally use SYSEX messages or the Line 6's own protocol (but we will be able to write and store those names on the controller anyway). Description: 1-Main Screen. From this screen you can control the main functions of your Helix. Some elements receives the MIDI information that your Helix sends and display it on the screen, such as bank and program changes. Others are used to send commands to activate and deactivate elements such as footswitches. A few elements are bi-directional, such as looper controls (for the most part). As you already know, the Helix does not send us setlists names. However, you will be able to rename your Setlists on the controller easily from this screen, simply by pressing the "Setlist" button to write names coincident with those of your Helix. 2-Setlist Screen The main function of this screen is to navigate comfortably between the eight banks of your Helix, but we can also select a preset in each of the 8 banks, and toggle between them at the touch of a button. There are also controls that receive information from your Helix, like those two large screens of Setlist and Preset. The most important looper controls are also present here. For advanced users: the setlist names are also editable! So you can manually write the patches names on your controller to match your Helix. 3- Preset Screen On this screen, the idea is to have quick and immediate access to all the Presets (and Setlists) of your Helix. Snapshot selection controls are also present, as well as the looper, tap tempo and tuner buttons. 4- Favourites Screen Easy access to your 48 favorites, just pushing labeled buttons. A good way to sort your most used presets, regardless of where the hell(ix) they are found. If you need more buttons, you can even duplicate this screen to double the amount available!
