  1. Hey all, Two weeks into using the HX Effects, my first ever multi-effects pedal in 30 years of playing. Loving it so far, particularity its small form factor. My only complaint is the tuner. It is fantastic, but I don't like that it is assigned to the TAP button requiring you to hold it down for what is probably only a second to activate, but in a fast paced gig environment it feels like ten seconds. I've done a bit of a search and there doesn't appear to be any way around this but thought I'd check on here if anyone has a tip. I personally don't use the tap function so I would be happy if it could be disabled so that hitting the button would immediately turn on the tuner. Otherwise I may have to start bringing my Peterson, but that's a pain. Thank you to anyone who may have a work around.
  2. Hi, I recently got my hands on a Line HX Effects. I have been experimenting with the unit in a 4CM configuration with my various tube amps. I have also paid attention to setting the various signals levels (Intput, Output, Send/Return) to Inst or Line. Moreover, I have kept all the effects to 0db. Despite this, I having a lot of problem getting the overall volume levels of my setup under control. In general, my problem is that the overall volume is TOO loud. In experiencing the following symptoms : 1. Overall sound level of the setup is too loud with the HX Effects. For the same gain/volume setting on my amp, I get a big jump in volume difference when I include the HX effects; 2. In 4CM configuration, if I bypass the FX loop block, effectively bypassing the preamp of my amp (according to my understanding), I get a huge volume increase; 3. When changing effects in my basic linear signal flow, some of the effects create huge volume increases (especially those from the pitch block). My amps are : Mesa Boogie Lonestar special (Buffered Series FX Loop), Mesa Boogie Mark V:35 (Buffered Series FX Loop) and Mesa Boogie Roadster (Series DX Loop). So the Lonestar special has a volumes and one master out. The Roadster has a volumes and one master out. My understanding is the the HX Effects should be unity gain, so I don't understand what is happening. So my questions are : 1. How can I tell if the Send/Return should be INST or LINE level ? If I understand correctly, the Send Level must be INST because it is going into the front of the AMP (4cm). Now, if the the Return is set to INST but my amp sends LINE level, the signal shoud be too loud. 2. How can I tell if the RETURN of the amp requires INT or LINE ? If I understand correctly, the AMP requires INST and I send it LINE, the volume of the amp will be too loud. 3. Many people say that (even with buffered FX loops) the wiring should be lest then 25 feets in order to avoid tone problems. Now, with a 4CM, isn't it almost impossible to avoid such a situation unless you are only using 5 feets wires but that isn't really practical. 4. Can somebody explain why certain effects are louder then others ? Especially those in the pitch block (ex. Octaver and OSC, etc.) ? 5. Can somebody explain the best steps to follow to get all the volumes under control... especially considering that the FX Loop itself has signal level settings. I'm trying to stay with unity gain. Thank you, James
  3. Hello all, I'm really hoping that somebody can help me order my pedalboard (and my thoughts on this!). I've been going through so many various ways in my head to hook these pedals up that I'm getting very lost and confused. Here's the situation - I have the following pedals, and I would like to know how best to connect these up whilst taking best advantage of them all if possible. RevivalDrive Preamp, Torpedo CAB M (Poweramp/Cab), Line 6 HX Effects, Strymon Volante That's it! 4 pedals and I'm so lost, but it's because there's so much flexibility. Do I put the Preamp and Cab in one loop into the HX effects? That would give me the option of moving them around and putting drives and effects from the HX pre/post which I want. Then what about the Volante? I don't want that in a loop as it would lose the stereo functionality, so do I go from the main out on the HX effects into Volante, then I can use the main outs from that? It means it is always at the end of the chain but I can live with that I think. As an aside, I'd like to use headphones occasionally - does anyone know if the stereo outs from the Volante (or any pedal I guess) could function as a headphone out? I can get an adapter that does L/R to 1/4 inch female so I can get it to fit, just don't know if it would sound good. Normally I'd be going to monitors. Anyway - How would you guys wire these up? Part of me is thinking that the Torpedao CAB M is redundant as there is an IR loader in the HX Effects... But the Torpedo is so cool and I want to take advantage of it. Thanks guys
  4. Hi! I was thinking of buying a looper (switching between multiple pedals to avoid tapdancing) but came across the HX effects. This is my setup: Orange TH30 Polytuner Digitech Whammy Fuzz pedal Distortion pedal Octaver pedal Hall of fame reverb pedal (might get rid of this one if the HX reverbs are good) What I'm after is being able to control each pedal individually and create snapshots for turning on/off multiple pedals at once. I also want to be able to control the channel of the amp on the snapshots. Is this doable? what is the maximum amount of pedals I can plug into the unit? I'm really new to this whole thing so my knowledge is pretty basic, but I know you can do the 4 Cable method to be able to have HX reverb/delays after the amp distortion. Kind regards, Jeff
  5. After powering up the unit, it froze to the last saved situation. The buttons didn't work anymore. So it's not possible to go switch to and from BANK/PEDAL modes. I'm in version 2.60 I solved the frozen state by switching off and on, while pressing the 2 bottom-right buttons. It seems it resets the presets to the factory presets. So I lost the presets. It seems at a given moment a preset was corrupted preventing the unit to work properly. As far as I backup my presets regularly, this should not be a real problem. But I'm afraid of what would happens during a gig when I don't have a PC to restore backups ? Do some of you have any knowledge of what to do OR not do to avoid this frozen state ?
  6. I'm using the hx stomp in as a send/return block in the hxfx so allt the effects are placed in the hxfx. Also using Midi from hxfx out to hx stomp in. What I'm aiming at though is from hxfx:s snapshot mode, switching amp models but I don't get it to work as I want it to. If I'm on preset 001(01A) on the hxfx, the same preset is set in the hx stomp. I want to be able to have whatever preset on the hx stomp from whatever preset on the hxfx. What bothers me is that if I want to change snapshot on the hxfx and snapshot or preset on the hx stomp it doesn't work because the hx stomp is only using the preset that corresponds to the one the hxfx is on. Any help would be very appreciated. Cheers from Sweden / Kristoffer
  7. Hi there ! Trying to use the HX Effect with my 2-channels amp. No problem with clean channel. No problem when using line6 HX effects internal distortion or OD amazing tone When I engage my amp lead channel, HX Effect cause some noise problems with the amp. - I know that gain must generate some noise - My amp is usually quiet - This is a groove tube amp with high gain capacity but I keep gain relatively low - Other setting WITHOUT HX effect with pedal in front that are not true bypass don't generate this noise - This noise is NOT 50hz hum ground-loop noise, single pups noise, but more shhhhhhhh kind of noise (noise of snake not happy with modern jazz) - When testing, I mute all the effects - The unit is plugged in front (I plan to use the FX loop when this issue is solved) - I compare bypass and engaged tone, Huge difference with noise when HX effect is in line - All the input/ouput are set to instrument level. Is there anybody having the same issue ? Do you think this is the classical noisy HF effects syndrome ?
  8. Hey I just had a thought the other day about possibly creating a preamp through the HX EFFECTS & am wondering if anyone else has tried this?.. OD/DS Pedal ---> EQ Pedal ---> IR Cabinet Sim The idea is the the OD/DS gives u the preamp while the EQ pedal helps you shape the sound a bit more since the first pedal is limited and than add an IR cab to simulate the desired cabinet.
  9. Hi, wondered if anyone had any suggestions. So I'm using the HX effects for bass into a Darkglass Vintage Microtubes 500 amp. The amp has an intelligent footswitch for going between clean, vintage microtubes circuit, B3K circuit, and mute (4 buttons). When trying to use an effects loop on the HX effects through the loop send/return on the amp, it is bypassing the footswitch somehow, so I can't change between the onboard distortions or mute the amp. This doesn't happen with 2 cable method (no loop) and didn't happen using individual effects in the loop... any ideas?
  10. Hi I have a problem with my HX effects. It is popping from preset to preset but not on all of them. My amp is a EVH 5150iii. I am using 4cm and I am switching the amp via midi (BankPC) It is not doing it on all the B presets. I think that is a bit strange. Is there any thing I can do to make this go away? Or what am I doing wrong? Please help me solve this problem :-)
  11. Hi - I Have recently got a HX Effects and cabled it up via the 4CM. I am getting sound but I have a Marshall TSL with 3 channels. When I change the channels on the amp (using a marshall footswitch), the sound doesn't change. Its as its just going through the HX and not reflecting if I change the Amp channel form say clean to crunch. I suspect its something to do do with signal path but not sure where to start. I feel like such a newbie wit this stuff so apologies if dumbarse post. Any obvious errors? Thanks
  12. Going from an M13 to an Hx Effects. I can't figure out how to send patch or program changes through midi to my mini amp gizmo. I can't believe this is missing on this unit.
  13. Hello. I`m new in this Line6 universe. Just bought a HX Effects with the firmwire 2.51. Now I want to update to the newest version 2.82. I have downloaded HX Edit and Line6 Updater to my pc. Now, when I run the Updater a black screen appears with a writing says: “Select device to update”. And no options.? I have the device turned on and conneted with usb cable. Can anyone help me? Jakob, Denmark
  14. Hi - I feel like a complete ignoramus as I don't understand half the stuff in here about loops / IR's whatever whatever...) I got my hands on a HX effects with a view to replacing the bulk of my pedal board which was basic enough; guitar > Tuner > wah > boost > OD > compressor > into a marshall TSL 100 input socket > modulation > delay in the TSL FX loop. I want to replicate a similar set up with the HX but cant work out whether I need 4 cm (which is what I have now in the pedal board set up above) or 3 and how to get the mod and delay in the FX loop and the rest in outside the Fx loop. Also if I keep my tuner and boost pedals before the HX... Once I have that sorted, I then need to play around with these effects and how they sound in the 3 amp channels (clean / crunch / lead) in the amp. If anyone else is using the pedal with a Marshall / fx loop it would be great to get some tips on a good simple set up that sounds good as that was the objective. I tried it last night for 2 hours, sounded terrible. I tried with 4Cm - got no sound so did a factory reset with my FX loop on the amp. Tried basic 2 cable in and out and it sounded terrible (big volume changes, just not nice tone ((. I saw all the YouTube videos of them sounding amazing so if anyone can get me up and running - I owe you :) Many thanks Mike
  15. Hi all, Ive been using my HX Effects in conjunction with my Mesa F30 to good effect. However, I am interested in running direct to FOH, and I was wondering if you guys could comment on my proposed setup: Guitar, HX, send to Amp input, amp speaker out to Harley Benton loadbox (I know, im cheap), then line signal to return/HX, using a good IR, then out to FOH through a DI. Perhaps I could use the speaker output of the loadbox to still use the amp speaker if I want to, but this is secondary. This is the loadbox I would buy for this use: https://m.thomann.de/nl/harley_benton_pa_100_power_attenuator.htm It's basically me really liking my amp but not wanting to use microphones anymore and having a loud amplifier on stage. And its me using the fact that the HX Effects does IR. Would this work? Does the specific loadbox that I linked have the required connections? I am not able to spend any more on this.. Hope you guys can advice my on this! Cheers.
  16. Newbie Here. Just got an HX Effects. I have one seemingly really basic question and then another more complicated one... When I create a new preset, I cannot figure out how to turn it off/bypass it? Hitting the foot switch doesn't do anything. That seems odd. The only thing I can do is switch to another preset. And I suppose I could create a preset with no effects on, but that seems like a real waste of a foot switch. What am I missing? And... I want to be able to assign each of the 6 foot switches a preset where each preset uses a combination of effects (not just one effect per switch). For example switch 1 has OD and Phaser, switch 2 has Chorus and Delay, Switch 3 has OD and Delay, etc... And then I'd like to be able to save and recall this selection of 6 tones/footswtiches. I understand how to combine individual effects to create presets But it seems that I can only have 4 presets showing at one time since the other 2 switches are used for bank up and down. Is that correct? (And then I go back up to my original question about turning any of these 4 on and off). I looked into using snapshots and that seems like one way to accomplish this but again, only 4 at time, right? Ultimately, I am trying to accomplish something similar to what the M13 can do in Latch Scene mode where you can have 12 different switches each with a different sound containing 4 effects. Then you can easily switch between any of those 12 tones. Can I do this with 6 foot switches on the HX effects? Thanks!!
  17. Hi all, New HX Effects user here. I've been using a Bespeco 18L Exp Pedal with my LIne 6 M5 with no problems and just assumed it would work with the HX Effects. Hooked it up last night to try it and can't seem to get it to work. First question is, can anyone confirm compatibility with the Bespeco 18L? - it's a 20k pot I believe If so, what am I doing wrong?! If not, what are the alternatives - can't seem to find a list of compatible pedals for the HX Effects. Many thanks
  18. Newbie here. I'm not even sure how to describe my issue. I have a preset with multiple effects. I press mode to see the presets. If I press mode again I see some of the same presets (albeit in different stomp positions) and some new ones. What am I looking at? How do I get all my presets on the first 'page'? Why did some appear on my second page even though they are clearly part of my signal flow. So confused. Thank you.
  19. Hi... I'm using HX Effects running into a tube amp. This is probably on a forum somewhere but I couldn't really find it so thanks in advance for your patience. Can someone give me some advice on making a block to get a reasonable facsimile of an acoustic guitar? Sort of a like a Boss AC-3 pedal? It would really be cool if line 6 just added that pedal to the next update... Thanks!
  20. Hello to the whole community. I have a noise problem when change the channel of my amplifier from the hx Effects. My amplifier is a Mesa Boogie Rectoverb 25. When I switch to the high gain channel from the hx effects a very annoying background noise is heard. I tried to reduce it with the noise gates of the hx efeccts but they do nothing. is this normal? thank you
  21. Hey guys and girls! So I have a question regarding the stereo inputs on specifically the HX Effects. Is it possible to run a guitar through the left input, and a bass (or vocals, keyboard, etc...) through the right input, and independently add effects to them on their own paths? Is it also possible to Merge the path B signal into the path A signal? I’ve attached a simple diagram showing what I’m trying (and probably failing) to describe! I believe the HX Stomp is capable of this, but just wanted to know if the HX Effects can do it too. Thanks in advance!
  22. I am currently building an HX effects into a rack for someone. They will be using 4 cable at the amp. For the most part the drive will be coming from the amp but, they were asking if they could have 1 boost in front of the amp that they could click off/on from the front of stage. All that will currently be at the front of stage is a Voodoo Lab Commander. This will only have MIDI to the HX Effects. I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find a switch that can be run to the expression jack that can be assigned to an effect. I've so far tested a regular switch and a hard switch, both TS/TRS and nothing seems to work. I see that Mission has a pedal that has a toe switch (not sure if that's Helix/Stomp only) but, I don't need an expression pedal. Thanks to anyone that can point me in the right direction of a product or the how-to (switch type, cable type, etc.)!
  23. Hello Helix and HX wizards, I am trying to run a Wet/Dry rig with (my two amps and) my HX Effects. The "twist" is that I need an FX loop, with this additional element I can't figure out how to make it work without running into some phase issues... Any help ? :) Thanks !
  24. I can't help but feel Line 6 missed out by not making the HX Stomp the size of the HX Effects and vice versa. The Stomp has amps and cabs with limited blocks. So if you want an amp and cab, you're left with 4 blocks. The Effects has the ability to Use a lot more blocks and load IRs, but no amps and cabs. So you have more switches and fx...but need to provide amps. It seems you'd want the extra blocks and buttons on the item you use as the all in one. The Stomp is being put on pedal boards as an effect pedal when it's supposed to be a baby Helix. I feel like they should make a stop the size of the HX Effects with all the blocks AND THE ROUTING. You can still stick it in a gig bag. If your gig bag won't hold the HX Effects size pedal, you need a better bag. It's not going to kill the sales of the full size Helix. People that want that will buy it. I just sold mine because I'm using the Kemper Stage for main gigs now. But for a small unit to throw in my bag for jams and rehearsals, I got the Stomp, and it sounds great, but it's so limited I'm tempted to sell it and go with an Atomic Amplifire 6. I dunno. I'm just hoping Line 6 considers this. I think the unit would be killer if it were basically an HX Effects with the amps and cabs added to it. Helix Mini, as it were.
  25. After a year of being frustrated between my love of my HX FX and my annoyance with a board that was over sized to accommodate varying power supplies, I discovered that the True Tone 1 Spot Pro CS6 will power the HX FX. Previously I was using the same pedals as shown below, but on a Pedaltrain PT-1 with a rat's nest of splitters and short extension cords below to cope with plug blades in 2 orientations (you can't plug the adapter from the MXR supply and the Line 6 into the same strip and put it under the board. So now I have my HX and a few choice pedals on a Pedaltrain METRO 20! The power supply fits under the board, doesn't require a voltage doubler, and the CS6 comes with all of the cables you need (Line 6 and polarity reversal; the L6 plug switches polarity, but you have to switch it back on the HX). So good. Truetone's website says that it will work because it's a different kind of PSU (I think it's switching instead of transformers, you can look up the video for their explanation). While the port says 500 mA, it will allow the unit to draw more. They have to list a rating for testing and approval to sell it, but it will allow the HX to draw what it needs. Been using it about a month. No heat issues, no quirky behaviors. So happy to have a nice small rig now.
