Helix Rack Mini aka HX Studio

hi recently i watched gear gods and fluff's video regarding IEM setup/all in one solution for the whole band on their rack for live use and it's inspiring to imitate such setup for ease of use and avoiding complications as much as possible. on gear gods' video about it, trey included the hx stomp as the core of their sound and he said that they only need less than 6 blocks as they are a metal band and doesn't need that much complexities as oppose to helix line in terms of tone shaping features. in terms of simple yet satisfying tones, i think the hx stomp is more than enough (unless you're really picky, you might as well get the big guns) but as with trey's setup, i just don't like the thought that it's built for the pedal board along with other pedals that has the same footprint(or not). so what if the line 6 makes a version of the hx stomp but in a rack mount configuration? since basically the hx stomp is at least meant to be in a pedal board, the "hx studio"(if they decided to call it with that name) should be used primarily in a studio as your dedicated guitar/bass audio interface/multi effects platform in a small package. imagine the helix rack on the size of maybe a scarlett 2i2 occupying 2U space and just half the width of it with the screen same as of the hx stomp, a couple of needed knobs and buttons on the front panel, extra buttons and swtiches if needed if they decide to add some features because it's a dedicated studio unit minus the three footswitches, an input jack and all of the needed inputs and outputs plus midi connectivity and lastly a jack for an optional 4 or 6 button footswitch. the reason for this idealistic babbling of mine is because i wanted the hx stomp to be in a rack format following trey's all in one setup for his band. what if there were 3 guitars and one bass? it will only take 4 units of rack space thus you'll have more for other things such as power conditioner, in ear mixer, splitter, etc. i mentioned that the unit is dedicated to the studio right since i already named it "hx studio" but what if someone wanted it to be used in a live situtation? of course being a reckless human, you'd do that if you can right? lol as for the market, maybe this unit can be a direct competitor to ik multimedia's axe i/o or audient's sono as dedicated guitar/bass audio interface if they will add some features like jfet circuitry or whatever they can think of so that they can maximize the unit's power for those applications. i'm thinking of almost the same price as theirs, around $500 maybe? what do you think about this idea? do you think this will be an addition to your gear? or just a big joke your music teacher will even cringe? do you think line 6 will consider this as a perfect addition to their products? or just a stupid disruptor for the Helix/HX line of modelers? cheers!

    HX effects, Loadbox and 4CM

Hey Is it possible to configure my rig and use my amp (1959slp) without speaker cab, a HX effects (4CM) and a Loadbox (torpedo captor) ? In a perfect world i'd love to set up something like this : guitar=>HX(comp)=>stompboxes(boost, fuzzes)=>HX(modulation, trem)=>amp=>Loadbox=>HX(eq,reverb, delays)=>IR=>P.A or Audio interface it seems possible but I just can't figure out how to patch it in terms of input/output of each device and in terms of signal path in the HX (where do I insert loop,send/return,IR blocs) thanks for the help cheers

  4. I have been thinking about how I use my Helix and just wanted to put this out there and see how other people feel about it. Rather than Line6 adding a "Legacy" category I would much rather they maintain the current effect categories, e.g. "Modulation", Distortion, Delay, etc. and just append the legacy effect's name with an asterisk, a different color or font, or some other way of indicating that they are legacy. This makes much more sense to me than for example adding a "Legacy" list. I am just considering how I use my Helix and when I, for example, go looking for a distortion effect, I would prefer to see all of them in one place, HX and legacy, and be able to select the one that best fits my needs. Having to go into a separate master list - "Legacy", just seems like a poor way to navigate for effects spread out across many categories and will probably make them less likely to be used. Ultimately as long as a legacy effect is differentiated visually from an HX effect, I don't mind it being in the current set of block lists it pertains to(Distortion, Mod, etc.) along with all of my other HX effects. Don't want to come off as sounding critical here about this fantastic update, I am very grateful for the addition of the legacy effects. I am just wondering if the method for navigating to the new "Legacy" effects could be improved upon. I think they will get more usage if they appear, clearly marked, in the same lists as the HX effects, and be much simpler to navigate to. It will also be much simpler to compare similar effects if they are all in one list, e.g. distortions, rather than to have to jump to a completely separate category to listen to the legacy distortions. I guess I am proposing that the Legacy category be eliminated and that Legacy effects just be clearly indicated in some other manner but included in the existing categories of HX effects. How are other folks feeling about this? Update: Added this to IdeaScale. https://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Move-Legacy-Effects-in-with-the-rest-and-make-em-look-different/921132-23508#idea-tab-comments
  5. Hello, I'm new here. I was hoping to get some help with my Helix Native install and Helix Floor pedal. I just discovered HX Edit this afternoon and very much enjoyed how both the pedal and the software are synced. I was surprised and disappointed to find that this same configuration didn't port over to Helix Native on launch. I came from a Guitar Rig setup where the pedal could navigate and interact with the plugin. I didn't put much effort into that pedal, so I was kind of expecting the same results. Can anyone tell me how make Helix Native sync up like HX Edit does in FL Studio with my Helix Floor pedal? Thank you kindly for your help!

"HX Stomp doesn't have a driver"

Hello, bought a brand new HX Stomp. It won't connect to my pc (Windows 7 x64). Problems found: - USB Audio Device has a driver problem. - HX Stomp doesn't have a driver. Are the driver available for download somewhere? None of the software provided, in the Downloads section of Line6's webpage, are able to "see" my HX Stomp.
  7. I'm a new owner of the HX Stomp and spend plenty of time during the weekend to fine tune my presets, explore HX Stomp features, and have it set up for studio and live use. Everything is perfect except for the looper. I can't find a way to control he looper via an external Footswitch. Even changing the settings in global menu the most I can get is that the recording starts, but no way to stop it. What do you suggest (NO MIDI) as an external Footswitch for looper use? thank you!

    HX Stomp Shortcomings?

Hi Guys, very impressed with the HX Stomp! Most definitely will be buying one when it hits the stores here in Surrey, UK. One ‘gripe’ (hardware) and two suggestions (hardware & software). The suggestions follow on from the gripe! It’s all about what I think is the most important element of any such unit (apart from the sounds, of course!): the ease with which to switch complicated sounds during a gig. Ext Pedal port: shame only 1 port included. Frustrating not to be able to have at least 1 EXP plus FS4 & FS5 for e.g. up/down toggling of presets, side to side shifting of pages, etc to get instant access to multiple presets and snapshots on the fly. Two ports would have made the machine phenomenal and there might have been space to shift the USB to the MIDI side to allow for a second Ext port on the back? (but doing so would have taken it too close to the LT?) ;-) Obvs there are workarounds: a) external MIDI controller for preset selection, b) external Wah plus FS4 and FS5, but it would have been nice to have it all on the HX internally as standard. Hardware suggestion: with one TRS port, I can do 6 customisable things with my Switch 6 on my Helicon devices. Could Line 6 produce a dedicated switching box to enable a greater number of switching possibilities? Software suggestion: in the four Play View Modes, there are various functions that are activated by pressing two buttons together (FS1+FS2, FS2+FS3), but these don’t seem to appear as functions that could be assigned to FS4/FS5. I hate trying to press two pedals together in a gig and I’m sure most people would agree. Would it not be possible to allow a single press of either FS4 or FS5 to access these extra functions, e.g. toggling between Preset and Snapshot, queueing next/previous Presets, etc? Would this not allow almost instant access to 9+ sounds on the fly? More than enough for nearly any song, I grant you, but very useful! Reply from Line 6 Techs gratefully received. Thanks a lot, Andy

    HX EFFECTS FAQ

HX EFFECTS FAQ Ugh, I don't wanna READ. Can't I just watch some videos? Paul Hindmarsh's Intro Video (5:57): Learning 80% of HX Effects in less time than it takes to listen to Never Gonna Give You Up (3:23): FAQs are for unwashed plebeians; can I just have the full manual? HX Effects Cheat Sheet (PDF): https://line6.com/da... - English .pdf HX Effects Owner's Manual (PDF): https://line6.com/da... - English .pdf Is there preset compatibility between Helix and HX Effects? No preset compatibility between HX Effects and Helix Floor/Rack/LT/Native. Is this the new M13 or M9? Not really. HX Effects is much more powerful and flexible (and way deeper!) than M-Class processors. So then it's an effects-only version of Helix? Closer. HX Effects is designed for the guitarist and bassist who embraces traditional amp and pedalboard rigs. What effects does it have? HX Effects has all 117 effects models from Helix. In addition, we’ve included a Legacy library of 77 effects from M13, M9, M5, DL4, MM4, FM4, and DM4. It does not have any amp or cab blocks; however, it can load impulse responses (IRs) for parallel stage+FOH routings and acoustic guitar body resonance. Aww man, why couldn't you give us just one amp model block? This box ain't for you, my friend. It's for your bandmates who love their real amps and pedals (like many of those who work at Line 6!). Will HX Effects have the new reverbs (and Multi Pass delay) from the Helix 2.50 update? Update it to 2.50 and it will. As 2.50 wasn't finished when the first run of HX Effects was manufactured, initial shipping units may still be at 2.40. Download the latest version of Line 6 Updater here: www.line6.com/downloads How many effects can HX Effects run at once? Up to nine, DSP permitting. Can the effects be in any order? Yes. There's a special Signal Flow menu for moving blocks around and routing them to parallel Path B, but for day-to-day operation, you just plug in and play. Could I throw this in the loop of my Helix to add additional DSP horsepower? I suppose you could, and with a single MIDI cable the presets would sync by default, but you probably won't need to, as the Legacy effects in Helix firmware 2.50 use notably less DSP. Could I throw this in the loop of my Kemper, Fractal, or Atomic modeler to add a ton of new and classic Line 6 effects? Hmmm, That's actually a pretty neat idea. Want a job? Hold up. Six stomp switches, nine blocks. Why the disparity? You can assign multiple blocks to the same switch and even toggle between them. Plus, you don't have to waste a footswitch on any wah, volume pedal, or FX Loop-as-4-Cable Method blocks. So HX Effects supports 4-Cable Method? There are two mono effects loops (or one stereo effects loop) for inserting your favorite pedals anywhere into HX Effects signal flow and/or connecting to your amp(s) via 4CM or 7CM. There are even templates to get you started. How do I swap footswitch assignments? Touch-hold two footswitches and press OK. Footswitch assignments can be made independent of effects order. I see only three edit knobs. Press for more parameters. Touch an effect switch for one second and parameters spill across the switches so you can see them all at once. What about some of the cooler Helix features like snapshots, Pedal Edit mode, and assigning controllers in 3 seconds? Yes. How many presets and snapshots are there? HX Effects has 128 preset locations, each of which has four snapshots. Does HX Effects have true bypass? Yes. Press MODE and TAP to bypass HX Effects completely, either via analog relays or DSP with reverb and delay trails. Does HX Effects have a looper? Yes. The same looper from Helix can be added as one of the nine available effects. Does HX Effects have amp control outputs? Yes. Each of the two expression pedal inputs can be globally switched to act as a dual amp control output. So a total of four amp controls can be accommodated. Or two amp controls and one expression pedal. Or two expression pedals. Or neither, if you're into the whole brevity thing. Can I use HX Effects to control other pedals? Absolutely, as well as Mac/PC/iOS* software over USB. Stomp mode switches or connected expression pedals can send a variety of MIDI messages and selecting a preset or snapshot can send up to six buffered commands. Just like its bigger brothers, HX Effects wants to be the command center of your guitar or bass rig. *iOS control requires the Apple Camera Connection Kit Can I customize the scribble strip labels and LED colors? I suppose since everyone else and their mom is doing it now , yeah. Is there a Mac/PC editor? The same HX Edit application works with Helix, Helix Rack/Control, Helix LT, and HX Effects, but when HX Effects is connected, it appears as just a librarian and IR loader for now. Just update it to version 2.50. We expect to update HX Edit with full editing capabilities for HX Effects later this spring. Does HX Effects have an audio interface? No. It's designed for your pedalboard. It will send and receive MIDI data over USB, however. Can I power HX Effects from my DC pedalboard supply? Line 6 only officially supports operation with the included DC-3G. Using any power supply other than that supplied by Line 6 will void your warranty. Line 6 is not responsible for any damage incurred when using HX Effects with any third-party power supplies. HX Effects requires 2A bare minimum of clean DC. It uses a 2.5mm pin where most others use a 2.1mm pin. What's the meaning of life? Be excellent to each other. San Dimas High School Football rules. Dimensions/weight? Is it smaller than M9? 10.8"w x 7.9"d x 2.8"; 4.75lbs HX Effects is about 1/4" wider than M9 and maybe an inch deeper. It's as small as we could possibly make it. What's the price? HX Effects sells for $599.99 US MAP. When's it shipping? HX Effects is in select North American dealers now; we expect it to appear in Europe and the rest of the world in mid-to-late February. If you snag one now, remember to update it to 2.50! Line 6 is not responsible for any damage incurred when using HX Effects with any third-party power supplies.

HX Effects signal chain 7 cable method

How do I set up the HX effects signal chain/fx block/mixer for 7cm? I'm struggling! What are the mixer and effects loops settings in the HX effects? Stereo? Dual mono? I'm using two amps, and want to set up so drives go into the front of the amp, and delays/reverbs in the fx loops. Main problems: - I don't know how the signal chain should be configured to set up 7 cable method into the fx loops of two amps. - Because the setup isn't correct, I currently get a lot of noise as both amps are sending the preamp to the other amp! Basically both preamps are blended on each amp. - How do I ensure delays and other effects are stereo - as in ping-pong delay etc. What are the mixer and effects loops settings in the HX effects? Stereo? Dual mono?
  12. Cant connect my hx effects on hx edit, it says code 8207 I just recently purshased this device and I cant use from my pc.
  13. Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone can help, I'm having two problems (one might be how I have it set up admittedly); The first is that when I use the HX with the Kemper, the HX is providing extra input volume which is driving the profiles harder. I've checked all my volumes on each pedal and they're all set to 0db and I've tested with no pedals turned on at all and the level is the same; it's only when the HX is turned off that the signal is as expected going to the Kemper. Second is a very weird issue that has happened with the auto filter. It was setup as default (no settings on it were changed), and it was placed in the effects loop of the Kemper. The first time I turned it on with the Kemper it had no high end at all, only the bottom end was coming through, and background 'hiss' slowly increased to a decently audible level which then petered off after I had turned off the auto filter. The problem is that after this has happened the Kemper now regardless of anything being plugged in will have this very slow build up of hiss which just dissipates and goes back to normal, but I have no idea why this has happened or how to fix it. The hiss seems to have been coming from the kpa, but it was definitely kicked off by the hx and (whether it was just happen-stance timing or not) the auto filter effect. Auto filter seems to be working fine now but I have changed the output of the kpa to the line out rather than the monitor out which I was using before. My setup is; Guitar > HX input > HX effects loop send to Kemper input > Kemper effects send to HX effects loop return > HX main output to Kemper effects return > Laney LFR-112 powered FRFR I've checked the in/out settings in the HX and everything is instrument level Everything is being run from the one extension lead Effects loop on the kpa is in the X slot, and in the HX is one loop block placed before any modulation/delay I'm not really sure of when to use ground lifts, but when the hiss has appeared I've just gone one by one through to turn each on/off to see if there's any difference and there isn't. Any help is much appreciated!
  14. I Everyone, this is my first post I'm Italian, sorry for the bad english ;-) the question is: Is it possible to use the HX Stomp as a controller for an exteral midi pedal switcher (like the disaster area dpc8ez) as described below? My goal is to set the unit always in snapshot mode, using a snapshot bank per song and the corrisponding 3 snapshot for the sections of the song (verse-chorus-solo/special) I want to use the unit solely for modulation, reverbs, delays and eventually amp simulation, using the dpc8ez (or other midi pedals switcher) as a controller for 3/4 analog drive pedals combination. So...can I assign each button for recalling a snapshot AND a preset on the pedal swicther? Example of a song/snapshot bank: - snapshot/switch n 1: no pedals from the switcher + some effects from the hx - snapshot/switch n 2: preset 1 on the pedal switcher and no effects from the hx - snapshot/switch n 3: preset 4 on the pedal switcher + some effects from the hx thanks in advance to everyone ciao from italy Teo

    HX Edit Missing Controls?

So I just got myself a Helix rack and I downloaded the HX Edit software to start messing without having to put my entire rack on the table. But when I open the HX Edit it only lets me access the Preset and Impulse Response, none of the actual preset stuff as you can see in the picture. Am I missing something? Every time I look up the app online I see people using the app with preset editing section. I've looked all over the Line 6 website and google and I can't find anything on this. Help?
  16. Hello everyone! First time using the forums, so bear with me here. I recently bought a Hughes and Kettner GrandMeister 40 and would like to be able to switch presets on the amp using my HX effects. I’ve used the HX in the past for channel switching, but would like to be able to jump to different presets depending on the effect presets I’m using on the HX. I know I’d need to use the midi outs on both the head and HX, but am totally stumped on what to do from there. Any advice or tips? Thanks in advance!

HX Effects and Jet City Amps

Hello all.Has anyone used HX effects with Jet City 50w or 100w head in amp's loop or with 4cm?How does it sound?
  18. I'm sure there's a reason for it, but it just seems like the effects loop shouldn't take up a block on HX(I'm assuming it does on helix too?) since surely it's just routing that signal through the loop rather than using any processing power to make any effects? Maybe I'm just missing something, but does anyone know why it needs to take up a block and cant just be added in the signal chain as an 'extra' block just to reroute the signal? Edit: I don't think I explained this that well so I'll see if this makes more sense. I'm using the hx where you can have 9 blocks in use for effects or loops. Assuming all blocks are in use with effects, if I want to add in my loop then I need to overwrite an effect I currently have in the chain. My post is querying whether the added effect on the processor in the unit when using the effects loop is really enough to justify having to effectively lose 1 effect to accommodate the loop. Hope that makes more sense

    If a footswitch/knob is destroyed..

I'm wondering what if a foot switch or a knob on a HX/helix is destroyed, can we use a midi controller footswitch to act as that destroyed footswitch or an expression pedal act as that destroyed knob?

    HX Wall Wart A/C question

Greetings! HX newbie here. The a/c adaptor is a giant wall wart and the cable is only a few feet long. VERY inconvenient. Is there an extension cable anyone uses so that the wall wart isn't on the floor by my feet and getting stepped on? Any solutions? Ideas? Thanks, forum!!

    Can I change Parameter order?

First post. Using hx. So when using reverbs (or any effect), it would make sense to me if the parameters displayed in the first window were those that were most often used, like depth (or mix) and decay. I often like to change parameters on the fly, but i have to spill out all the parameters and the one i want is often on the second or third window. I'd like it if my most changed parameters were on the first window, so that i could use knobs 1-3 to quickly adjust things like depth, mix or decay. Instead when I click on Glitz reverb, the parameters that show up are decay, predelay, and low cut. I'm not in the habit of adjusting predelay or low cut very often, but I change decay, mix, depth all the time. What I would really like is if I could choose which parameters show up in the first window. Any suggestions here?

    HX routing question

My goal is to have the HX drives/compression/etc go into my amp (AxeFx2) before the preamp and to have the amp's effects loop send to another "path" in the HX for other effects and return to be placed after my "cab" in the Axefx. I am thinking that this would be the signal flow: Path 1: Guitar input > HX Input > HX path with pre amp effects > HX send1 with the Dry Thru at -120db > cable from HX send1 > AxeFX input Path 2: Cable from AxeFx send > HX Return1 > 2nd HX path with post amp effects > Cable from HX output > AxeFx return See screenshot for proposed HX preset. Does all this make good sense? Am I missing something? Is there a better way? Much thanks for any assistance.

    Possible bug with HX Effects?

Hey all, Recently, I was noticing some odd behavior with my HX footswitches during live use. If I went to engage an effect by stomping on the footswitch, it would turn on, but after maybe 1-2 seconds, it would bring up the screen that allows you to edit parameters of that selected effect, and I would have to press the MODE/EXIT button to return to the stompbox layout. This would happen intermittently, but eventually, I got fed up and checked to see if I was behind a firmware update, and I was. Without issue, I upgraded both the HX Edit software AND the HX firmware to the latest version. I did not see my specific issue listed on the bug fixes, but I was still hopeful it would resolve my issue. At first, it seemed like the update did the trick, but after a little more fiddling with my setup, a new problem arose, but still quite similar to what was happening before. This time, though, instead of bringing up the screen to edit effect parameters, it acts as if I am soft-touching two effects to engage the "swap footswitches" feature. See the video below, demonstrating the issue. As you can see, I'm not using the soft-touch feature at all - simply turning effects on and off in "stompbox" mode with a normal pressure used in a live setting. My brother also has an HX and I showed him the problem, and we could not replicate the problem with his unit in the same signal chain, same room, same power, etc. Do I have a faulty unit? In the meantime, or regardless, is there some way to disable the soft-touch feature on the HX? Honestly, after using the unit for the past 2-3 months, I have never really used the soft-touch features. Thanks for any advice or support, folks.

    Multitap help?

Hi all! New Helix HX user as of this week and still trying to learn my way around this new (for me) FX platform. Is there any manual or guide that can explain how the Multitap 4 and 6 effects work? I'm trying to create a 3 tap delay with 3 different delay times (example: 200ms, 400ms, 600ms) but I only see 1 delay time setting. How do the taps work in those two effects?
  25. Let me start with, I got my HX Effects about 2 months ago. While I love many things about it, there are some frustrations I've had too. Especially trying to use the HX as a simple, MIDI control and effect system. When I was told about the HX it sure sounded like it could deliver on my basic needs of great effects, without built-in Amp Sims, CHECK, The ability to use the Atomic Amplifire ("AA3") Or other 3rd party Modelers as my Amp sounds, CHECK, and what I thought would act as the MIDI controller to have the AA3 change presets a.k.a different amp tone, after stepping on a preset switch on the HX. As an example if I press preset 1A, the effects on the HX are added, and via MIDI the AA3 changes to the specific amp tone. Instead of having to choose amp tones (presets) on the AA3 manually, like I do now! A pIan ! I realize it might make more sense to use the AA3 as the "front" control to change the amp tones first, which then via MIDI changes the HX to a certain preset or patch with specific effects. BUT, I was hoping I could set it up the other way. Meaning the HX would be the "front" a.k.a. main control to choose a preset or snapshot. So when choosing preset 1A on the HX, it might be labeled with a specific song, such as "PINK NUMB" (as in Comfortably Numb) which changes to that presets effects, and via MIDI changes the AA3 to a certain preset (amp tone/ sound). to match. I did find out if I use the AA3 at the "front", it can ONLY send preset 1 to preset 1 or preset 17 to preset 17 on the HX or other MIDI device. So you have to have BOTH of the preset locations on the HX and AA3 lined up with the correct amp tone and appropriate effects in the HX for this to work. Not a big problem, but certainly less than ideal in my mind. The other issue is I MUCH prefer to use the nice bright, big labels on the HX to see preset names. The AA3 has a very small display making it MUCH harder to read especially live. I also read something today on the Line 6 forum that MIDI changes can ONLY be sent on a particular foot switch in STOMP BOX mode ONLY. BUT, what I'm trying to do is have each preset or snapshot as a specific sounds or group of songs, be able to step on a preset, have it update the HX with effects in that preset and change the amp tone on the AA3. Let me also say, I get the basics of MIDI but I am far from an expert too. Anyone have any great ideas as to how to solve this. I am really disappointed that the HX is so far not able to deliver on the MIDI and routing capabilities I was hoping ! If you have any good ideas as to how to solve this I would surely appreciate it. Thanks.
