    Make FX Loops Blockless

I have a Stomp and I really love it because it lets me integrate the best thing from the Helix (which in my opinion is the amp simulation/IR's) with pedals that I love. Now being that I usually run two amps through two IR's, I would really love to be able to put my reverb and delay pedals in separate FX loops without eating up my two remaining blocks on something I'm sure needs very minimal DSP. Anyone else?
  2. I recently purchased the ToneCore DSP Developer kit and I'd like to locate demo code to try out on the pedal. Short of taking the programming route, does anyone know of any code that I could upload to the pedal. I've already uploaded the 2-band equalizer and it functions normally but now I have a desire to explore additional examples before I take up the DSP programming aspect of the pedal.

    HX FX analog/dsp bypass

I have had the HX FX for a couple of months now, and love the effects and routing capabilities, but I find it REALLY alters the base sound of the instrument when bypassed...I've owned the M9 for nearly a decade and there was a audible difference when switching between True bypass and DSP bypass... the true bypass was great, the DSP very useable...but when I switch from Analog bypass to DSP bypass on the HX FX I hear no difference whatsoever...the both sound very digital and toppy to me...it adds a lot of treble and thins out the sound...I understand buffers and all that jazz (I have owned litterally hundreds of pedals haha!) , but surely analog bypass should not change the sound at all? I am starting to wonder if my unit is faulty?

what are you using the pre blocks for?

What are you using the pre blocks for?... reason i am asking is so far not really finding ever using them....I tried 1) Using as an amp before a cab 2) Using a pre before an amp block (yuk) While they use less dsp I am not finding them useful so I am asking you what and how are you using them if at all.

    Creating DSP on path 2

I’ve attached a labeled photo of my signal path. For some reason those are all the blocks that I can have on path 2. On path one it seems almost unlimited with what I can have. What can I do to rearrange this path so that I can add more blocks to my path 2?

WHY does the harmonizer sound sooo bad?

WHY does the harmonizer sound sooo bad? Hi Guys, so really want to know how you are making the harmonizer sound good. If you insert it 'post amp' like effects like delay ..you get stereo and two harmony and cool stuff like panning ..but damm it sounds awful... The only way I have gotten Harmony working decently is to put it in front of one of two amps (dual setup) and set the mix to 100%. I cant use the dual harmony that way unless i just only use one part harmony. Harmonizing an amp sounds really bad in my opinion and while sure i can find use for it..its not solution. How are you making it sound great?

List of DSP usage per model?

Apologies if this is a search-fail on my part, but is there a list of amp, cab, fx etc. models on HX indicating how much DSP each one uses? I wouldn't necessarily let it shape my patches, but it would be a useful reference to have handy... Many thanks.

Running Out of DSP Too Quickly?

Ok, I know that there have been multiple topics on this, but none I have found pertained to my specific situation. I'm certain that I am running out of DSP way too quickly. I'm currently setting up a preset with 1 volume pedal, 1 compressor, 1 wah, 1 cab + amp, and 1 amp and IR. I'm already getting effects grayed out. I can add some modulation and delay effects, but reverb is totally grayed out, among some other things. I have signal path one set to run to signal path 2, so I should have the full DSP power available to me. What am I missing here? Is something wrong? I've encountered this before and after updating to v2.50 and performing a factory reset. Thank You!
  9. 500x + boss ME-80 + Boss OD 20 Bugera vintage V22 infinium. How should I have this set up???? ive been experimenting with a few different methods and would like some feed back and suggestions. 1. guitar>me80>OD20>500x guitar in>front input. 2. same as 1 but bypassing the the preamp of the Bugera. 3. Guitar>500x>500x FX loop SEND> ME80>OD20>500x FX Loop RETURN>Amp FX RETURN. 4. same as 3 BUT! 500x FX LOOP SEND is SPLIT! 500x FXLOOP Send 1>OD20> OD20 Send>500x Return RIGHT> / 500x Send 2>ME80 Input>ME80 output L/Mono>500x FXLoop Return L/Mono>Amp FX Return. (4 sounds the best but i hit my DSP limit :( ) ANY IDEAS????? CHEERS!

    Daisy-Chain 2 x POD HD500s?

Hello everyone, I have 2 x POD HD500s, my original road-worn thing with broken pots and jacks etc and a near-new one I have just bought. I would like to somehow link them together so that the new one will control both PODs with the output of both being available at the 1/4" outs of one only. Any tips from anyone...? Many Thanks, Anthony (Australia)

    Multiple "voices" or signal paths

Hello: I was able to play through a Helix briefly and now I have Gear Acquisition Syndrome. I've seen videos of organ patches, for example from Glenn Delaune. However, does anyone know if you can have three things (signal paths) at once? 1) Organ patch 2) Acoustic Guitar from the Variax JTV 3) Electric guitar sounds with distortion. From reading about the design this seems possible and it seems that I could control volumes or other paramaters with the extra expression pedals (bought separately). If possible, has anyone tried it? Do you run out of DSP horsepower?

Simple Switching Between Path 1 & Path 2?

Happy Easter everyone and apologies if this has been asked a million times, I honestly cannot find the solution I'm looking for... My two favorite amp/cabs are the following: Clean - US Deluxe Vib Distorted - Cali Rectifier Since the Cali Rectifier is DSP intensive, I cannot put them both on Path 1, I must use Path 2 to use both amps. All I want to do is have a single footswitch switch between these two sounds, yet I cannot find a clean and simple way to do it. The best I've found so far is to split Path 1 (into 1A and 1B, which requires a pedal I don't need on 1B for the split) and send 1B to Path 2 (using the Path 1 split as an AB switch). Path 1 -----> AB Split ----> Clean Amp ----> Output Path 1B |-------> Useless Pedal ---> On to Path 2 Path 2 -----> Dirty Amp ------> Output Is there a very simple way to switch between Path 1 and Path 2 if they're completely parallel? Path 1 would be all my clean stuff and Path 2 would be all my dirty stuff. I feel like adding a useless pedal to Path 1B just to have it flow into Path 2 is more of a hack. Thanks!
  14. Hey Guys, I just wondered if anyone could tell me how the global noise gate works in DSP bypass mode. I had read that the gate only works when effects are activated but on my M9 it seems like it's working all the time when I'm in DSP bypass mode even when no effects are engaged. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Thanks!

Running out of DSP with 2 Amps...

Got a question and I am afraid the answer is not going to be good... I am using a great stereo output effects box through my FX loop that sounds awesome in front of the amp/cab so I would like to create two paths to maximize DSP usage. I create a Path 2A and Path 2B. I am assuming that when people say that the DSP are used for Path 1 and 2 -> they really mean Path 2A and 2B? I get close to being able to manage DSP except I find I would like a reverb unit at the end of ther signal path -> I always run out of DSP if I put the reverb at the end of the chain even if I remove mostly everything before it. I can put the reverb early in the path but this sounds poor instead of later in the chain. The other thing I would like to do then is to move the one amp/cab combination early in the chain so that I could move the reverb later in the food chain but I run out of DSP doing some logical moves. It really appears as though we are quite limited in what we can move where so that I could have a decent signal chain with my stereo effect early in the chain. Does anyone have an great tricks for squeezing as much as possible from the DSP? Is there a Path 1 I don't know about? - I am pretty close to abandoning this but it seems very whacked out that I can't this to work with the money the Helix cost etc...
  16. Hello all, I don't usually frequent gear forums so I apologise if my forum etiquette is sub standard. I've been really excited about the Helix since the reveal of the device. I've been waiting for you guys to drop a new modern unit since the HD500x. So, I've been nurturing use of a Pod XT for many years now and it has served my playing routine greatly since purchase. No to mention that I've had very little problems with the unit. I hit my tone limit a long time ago. I need more control over the signal chain to be able to really suss my guitar tone out. I'm seriously tempted to take the plunge on the Helix and have the funds to do so. I have my doubts though, especially considering it is such a great deal of money to drop on a pedal. Could I trouble some knowledgable users with some questions? 1) Line 6 edit I think I saw that Line 6 released a "Gear Box" Win/mac user interface for the Helix unit. How is this coming along, is it good quality? I can't find any screen shots at all. Nobody is hailing it as god's gift, if it has been released. I understand the larger display and functionality might completely over-rule the use of something like this. I'm curious as to it's current state of play. 2) Patch latency This is something that's been raised a few times on here. I understand the nature of loading process for patches. As I've dealt with the XT live, I do understand THIS IS modelling. With the XT, there was a noticeable delay in switching patches. It wasn't terrible but it was noticeable. I'd argue it is literally the longest patch latency I'd be willing to put up with. Can anyone clarify if it is an improvement? Some have said the time it takes to load a patch is directly related to the amount of "blocks" you have in your patches. I'm not looking for multiple cabs and amps per patch. The XT had Comp, Gate, EQ, Amp Sim, Cab, Delay, Mod, Reverb. Considering that as a base line. What sort of latency are we looking at as standard? Better or worse? Painfully delayed? 3) Further talking about patches delays. Some have suggested loading everything into one patch and using that? I saw Glen Delaune's, 3 channel amp patch and I wasn't THAT sold on the "method". Surely you can run into instances where both, your clean channel is running and your boost is on? Surely your tone is going to more of a compromise instead of what you actually want to here? 4) Do custom IR's perform better or worse re: quality and patch latency? 5) Spreading blocks over to "Both CPU processors"? How is this actually done? Do you run the amp and cab on a separate line with links between. How effective is this reduction? 6) Direct into a Tube Amp I use a 2x12 Fender Hot Rod Deville. Can anyone elaborate as to how will this pedal plays with standard Tube Amps. I don't need a processed video from Chappers, I've seen it already. You know what I mean. My query is the ability to sculp the sound and fix mushyness. Sustain at volume, deliberate feedback etc. 7) Some people in other posts have suggested using 8 Template <02c ... XXXXX as a base line for your tones, to avoid latency problems. I don't own one yet, so I can't exactly investigate as to what these patch templates have to offer. Can anyone elaborate as to what these templates have to offer and how they work? I know there's a lot going on above regarding my questions. If you'd be so kind as to weigh in where possible, I'm sure others will review this thread to help put minds at ease. Please be as honest, clear and descriptive as possible I know it's a pain... although they're not "Million dollar" questions, they are the "Thousand dollar" questions that I would really appreciate clear answers for. I really appreciete you taking the time to review this thread.

    M5-no Dsp Audio Out

My M5 started doing the "blue screen" where it never came on despite having the Line6 power supply. I actually dug out a power supply that put out 3 amps at the correct voltage just to double check that wasn't the problem. I removed a baseplate screw, scraped the case paint and replaced with a bare metal screw as suggested elsewhere-that solved the "on" problem. I can now reliably get the pedal to power on. It has, however, stopped passing audio in DSP mode (either bypass or effect on). In true bypass mode it will pass signal, so I've got to think the switch is OK. I've done a factory reset, and reloaded the firmware twice to no avail. Aside from disassembling it to see if there's a faulty ribbon cable, any other thoughts?

Two amps in one Path - DSP Full

Hello, I'm trying to recreating my patches from the HD500 on my Helix. It works pretty well as I can open HD Editor and load the Bundle I saved previously without having connected the HD500 itself. Anyway - I have a patch that uses Dual Amp options in the HD500. Since I like to keep things simple I tried to recreating it with one Path in the helix but it doesn't work because I run out of DSP pretty soon. What I wanted to do is to have a distortion pedal that is shared with both amps. Then the two amps and after the amps a flanger and some reverb for both signals, like it is in the HD Editor picture above. I've tried to created the patch using a two amp template from the helix. It works pretty well but it doesn't seem to be the same soundwise. When I just add the two amps in two differnt patches - One uses a single path and the other the two path from the template, they sound completly different (single path sounds better two my ears). I'm I missing something?
  19. Just received a Helix unit and started playing with it I'm seriously unimpressed with what it can dope with DSP wise I know there are limits but I've just maxed out Path 1 with a phaser an 808 and two amp cab models That's it! I know I can go to Path 2 but I was expecting to get a bit further than this based on the demos I've seen Faulty unit? This can't be it surely

    Pod HD500x "DSP Over"

Hi guys can anyone tell me what is that "DSP Over" ? Why i'm seeing this highlighted text on the Amp icon ? Sorry for english.
  21. I created the following Template as a routing scheme that devotes up to the maximum DSP power(both DSP processors) and 24 blocks to the electric guitar while leaving 8 blocks available for a second separate input and output such as acoustic guitar, mic, iPod, etc.. I use this for presets where Path 1 alone does not have enough DSP for my electric guitar patch but I also require a second input/output. This routing scheme gives me up to all the available DSP (both DSP processors) for the electric but also allows me to have a separate input/output for my acoustic guitar, mic, iPod, etc.. This Template sets up the first pair of input & output blocks from the Guitar input to the XLR output, and the second pair of input & output blocks from the Aux input to the 1/4 output but you can modify these to whatever you require. You can download my Template from the L6 CustomTone library here: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/1460280/
  22. I tried to provide some background as to why I am using this routing scheme but if you prefer not to read about my opinion on DSP limitations and want to get directly to how to get the max processing power available for the electric in a "hybrid" preset please feel free to skip right down to the "Method for using more DSP intensive electric guitar patch and also setting up acoustic guitar or Mic patch within the same preset:" You can also download the Template from the Line6 CustomTone library for this preset at http://line6.com/customtone/tone/1460280/ . Well, I just hit my first DSP limited issue. I know DSP limitations are currently an issue on every manufacturers equipment be it Boss, Axe, Line6 or whoever, but man are they a drag! The DSP limitations force you to pick mono where maybe you wanted stereo, not use certain effects, and not be able to utilize all of the slots available in the routing paths. I look forward to a time when we look back at DSP issues as an obsolete and ridiculous hardware problem. It just seems inane to get a "Not enough DSP" message or have effects grayed out. In essence the system is telling you, "I don't have powerful enough or adequate hardware to allow the full potential of the operating system"; despite the fact that the Helix is using state of the art hardware. Either that or even worse, other manufacturer's multi-effect units will limit you as to which effects you can double up on or use such that you never see the "Out of DSP" message even though the DSP is maxed. I am not picking on Line6 as this is a limitation on all current hardware platforms available. Line6 definitely made the best choice regarding DSP limitations, opting for maximum flexibility for the user instead of hiding the message by limiting what you can do. I can only get about 12 out of the 16 available blocks on a single Serial path (Path 1) loaded up. After block number 12 the Helix tells me there is not enough DSP to load block 13. Your results may vary depending on what you are trying to load up. I realize certain effects, stereo effects, and amp-cab blocks use more DSP but I am loading mono versions of whatever I can. Has anyone tried to load up 16 blocks on Path 1? I think you will find that depending on which effects you choose, even in mono, you will be challenged to be able to actually use all 16 blocks without getting an 'out of DSP' message or seeing an all gray screen when you try to add another effect. Yes, you can get more processing power and available blocks when you add Path 2 for a "Super Serial" setup but I was hoping to use Path 2 solely for my acoustic guitar or a microphone. And of course, even if you run in Super Serial you probably won't be able to use even close to all 32 blocks (not that I can ever see needing that many for one input/patch). I like having both guitars set up in one preset as I have found that when I have a separate preset for the acoustic guitar, when I am switching guitars during a gig, every once in a while I forget to either switch to the patch for the acoustic or forget to switch back when I go back to the electric. Of course, having a separate preset(s) for the acoustic is a perfectly acceptable solution as well and should get you around any DSP limitations. However if you are trying to use an electric guitar and a Mic in the same patch this routing scheme may be your best option. Method for using more DSP intensive electric guitar patch and also setting up acoustic guitar or Mic patch within the same preset: The following is a routing scheme that devotes up to the maximum DSP power and 24 blocks to the electric guitar while leaving 8 blocks available for a second input such as acoustic guitar or mic. I use this for presets where Path 1 alone does not have enough DSP for my electric guitar patch. This routing scheme gives me all the available DSP for the electric but also allows me to have a separate path for my acoustic or a mic : You can download the Template from the Line6 CustomTone library for this preset at http://line6.com/customtone/tone/1460280/ Note: You can use the Line6 Super Serial x2 template as a starting place for this routing scheme. Make sure you turn the 1A Output block's "Level" all the way down per the manual's instructions for "Super Serial". You will also have to drag down the split and merge blocks on the 2A path to get the separate route for your mic or acoustic. I also set the split blocks on Path 1 & Path 2 to "A/B" split and sent 100% of the signal to the B path. I ended up using a Super Serial x2 setup (Path1 routed to Path2) where the first three "bars" of the paths are used for my electric and the last bar is used for my acoustic. There is a method (drag down the split and merge blocks in Path2) when using Super Serial that allows you to separate out the last path "bar" such that you can route the acoustic or a mic into, for example, the Aux or "Mic In" input, and send it to a different output than the one you are using for your electric. In other words you can route the first three bars (24 blocks) of a Super Serial output for electric and use the last bar (8 blocks) with a separate input and output for your acoustic guitar or a microphone. This is what I am doing and it allows me to pick up and play either my electric or my acoustic without changing the preset. You probably won't use all 24 blocks for your electric patch but bridging from Path1 to Path2 will give you enough DSP to run more complex DSP combinations for the electric. I set up a Template for this routing scheme. I am thinking that ideally rather than each Path (Path 1 & Path 2) being allotted exactly half the DSP processing power on the Helix, that it would be much better if each path was dynamically allotted as much of the total combined power of the 2 DSPs as it required; limited obviously by the total power of the two DSP chips on the Helix. That way if you require more DSP for Path1 than Path2 you would not potentially be forced to use a Super Serial route. This would allow for much more flexible path setups. It would be really helpful to have a screen showing how much DSP each block uses so I could do a more effective job of balancing and figure out where the DSP "hogs" are I am wondering if there optimizations to the code that will allow the amps and effects to use less DSP without losing resolution or sound quality? If so, are these part of the future firmware revision plans?
  23. Hi there. I just bought my JTV 69 and started updating the flash driver. After it stayed like 5 mins and downloaded very slowly, the massage appeared saying that the connection is lost. Since then the dap just doesn't work. When I press on the Varian button it just activates the pies pickup but nothing happens when I switch between different guitar models or different tunings. How can I update or re-install the driver on the JTV?It's now just a regular guitar. Please help! :((

Dsp Boot Error On My Hd400

Last weekend, I connected my HD400 to my laptop for the first time in a VERY long time. Line 6 Monkey told me there were updates. So, I figured why the hell not. So, I told them to run. While the update was being performed, Line 6 Monkey popped up an error message saying it had encountered an error and would be shutting down. When the update started, it said that the FULL update should be run uninterrupted so I left the HD400 sit with it saying DOWNLOADING.... for a couple hours. I came back and it was still like that so I assumed that things got messed up and I'd have to start over so I powered it down. Only thing is, now it won't power back up properly. I get a message that says DSP BOOT ERROR then NOTHING!!! I've tried resetting to factory settings. I've tried using different cables, USB ports etc and nothing. Please help. Can someone tell me where to go from here to fix my HD400?

    Saving up resources in patches

Hello, Since many of us use dirty and clean sound mostly. I tried to create a patch with dual amps (eg treadplate and blackface) and dual volume controls to switch btw dirty/clean. As if I had only a stompbox to activate dirty. Trying to keep it simple. However it gets too much DSP if I want to add noise gate, reverb, chorus, pitch etc. (pod hd 500) Now, I need some ideas to solve DSP limitation. My first idea is to keep treadplate and remove blackface and try to tweak "noamp" signal with EQs etc to be as close as possible to the blackface removed. (sure it wont be the same) However it doesnt seem easy to tweak with only EQ block, so I got 3 or 4. Therefore, no big change here. apart from using external stuff (reverb of an amp or EQs pedals). have you guys done something like this? any new idea to help me? or should try another approach? or maybe theres a document somewhere that says x can be replaced by y; xyz replaced by w suggestions will be appreciated.
