  1. Problem: After upgrading to their Mac OSX system, some mac users found that some apps can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software. A dialog box pops up, click "OK" button and the application will close. Solution: Make sure you have dragged the installer package to /Applications to complete the installation. Our users have found that dragging the package into the Applications folder works best. This package appears after the installer .dmg file is opened. Problem: If you try to open the installer you downloaded, and you are blocked by the Mac System. You may need to disable the Gatekeeper within your system preferences. You may see a prompt like this: Solution: 1. Go to “System Preferences” then “Security & Privacy”. Under the General tab, you will see a message at the bottom, “Line 6 Updater.pkg was blocked from opening because it is not from an identified developer.” 2. Click on “Open Anyway” and the application will be opened.

  4. Some users have reported getting an error message when installing Line 6 product drivers on Windows 10 or 11. The error message will mention that Line 6 drivers are not being recognized or are being blocked after installation. The best workaround for this is to disable Memory Integrity under Windows security settings. You can find this feature under Windows Security > Device Security > Core Isolation details. See this article from Microsoft for further details: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/device-protection-in-windows-security-afa11526-de57-b1c5-599f-3a4c6a61c5e2 This is a known issue to our team, and for now the best option is to disable Memory Integrity as a work-around. We will continue to monitor this issue for our driver releases.
  5. What is the Metallurgy Collection? The MetallurgyTM Collection of amplifier and effects plugins was created specifically for guitarists who wish to quickly and easily access contemporary versions of classic and modern metal tones—as well as craft original tones of their own. The Collection bundles the Modern, Thrash, and Doom plugins, which are also available individually. The Metallurgy Collection plugins feature amplifier and effects models drawn from the award-winning HX® family of products. How many amp models per plugin? Each Metallurgy plugin features four amplifier models carefully chosen to deliver a full range of genre-specific tones. What kind of effects are included? Pre-amplifier Effects Each Metallurgy plugin features 3 (or more) mono. style-specific effects, as well as a polyphonic capo, that can be used before the amp in the signal chain. Post-amplifier Effects Each Metallurgy plugin features two stereo, style-specific effects that may be used after the amp in the signal chain. What about Cabinets, Microphones, and IRs? Each Metallurgy plugin features a choice of eight speaker cabinets and eight microphones, all based on IRs. Two mics may be selected and combined with a stereo room mic array, and up to two third-party Impulse Responses (IRs) may be substituted for the factory mics. Once you’ve logged in and authorized your Metallurgy software, IRs purchased from the Line 6 Marketplace on the same account will be made available in Metallurgy. Can I automate parameters in the Metallurgy Collection? Yes. Nearly every parameter in the Metallurgy Collection can be automated. Does the Metallurgy Collection support MIDI parameter control? Yes, nearly every parameter in the Metallurgy Collection can be controlled via MIDI CC. Is amp switching and amp bypassing via MIDI Learn or automation available? Switching channels via midi/automation is not available because the plugin would have to load the DSP of the alternate channel – which is essentially another model being loaded. Changing amp models in general is not supported via midi and automation. You can bypass an amp model and its DSP by disabling (bypassing) the amp view in the top toolbar. That also is not supported via midi learn or automation. There are other ways to bypass/mute that are midi/automation supported within the cab view’s mixer. Is the UI resizable? Not at launch. We’re working on it. Does the Metallurgy Collection support Retina displays (2x resolution)? Yes. The Metallurgy Collection includes Retina support. Is there Undo/Redo functionality? 6. Apple's policy is that if you acquire an app, free or not, the app should be available to download to any of your personal devices. However, as the app is updated, it's requirements may change and prevent fresh downloads on older devices. Example: If you attempt to download AMPLIFi Remote to an old device, and the minimum iOS version is 11 or above, you'll get an installation error: "This application requires iOS version 11 or later. You must update to iOS 11 in order to use this application." To get AMPLIFi Remote onto the older device, you'd have to first acquire the app via iTunes on a computer, or via the App Store on a device that is running the required iOS version, then download the app on the older device. Note that iPhone-only apps won't appear on an iPad, and vice versa. For our example, we'll use iTunes. Use the search box for the name of your application. Select the app in the search results. Click the Buy or Get button to acquire the app (you don't have to download it). Use your older iOS device and search for the exact app in the App Store or click on the Purchased icon in the lower navigation bar. When you locate the app, click the Install button. After you click Install, you'll see a popup indicating that there is an older version of the app available for download. Click Download to install the last compatible version.
  7. M5 FIRMWARE UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS NEEDED: A MIDI interface that connects to your computer via USB (download the current Driver for it if you don't have it installed) 2 MIDI cables (or a MIDI interface such as the M-Audio Uno that comes with attached MIDI cables) NOTE: Line 6 recommends a name brand USB to MIDI interface produced by an audio company that supports/updates their drivers. Good choices include: M-Audio, Edirol, E-Mu and MOTU. These interfaces have proven to be more robust and reliable when it comes to large MIDI transfers. For further infomation on MIDI connectivity and interfaces, please go over the following MIDI Document Line 6 Monkey 1.35 or higher installed. Download and install the Line 6 Monkey software here Procedure Connect your MIDI interface to your computer via USB cable. Connect the M5 MIDI Out to your MIDI interface In, and connect the M9/M5 MIDI In to your MIDI interface Out. Launch the Line 6 Monkey 1.35 (or higher) with the M5 connected via the MIDI interface and powered on. Select the Flash Memory line item and click the Update Selection button to install the flash memory update into the M9/M5. The device will receive the firmware data and the unit will be updated to the latest Firmware. It sometimes takes 30 seconds to 1 minute to appear like the unit is receiving the update and takes several minutes to complete. The M5 will re-initialize when the update is complete.
  8. Updating the Firmware: Connect the IEC power cable Using a computer or tablet, go to www.line6.com/software and download Line 6 Updater Connect the amplifier to your tablet or computer using a USB-B to USB-A or USB-C connection as required by your device Open Line 6 Updater on your device Power up the Catalyst amplifier with the master volume all the way down The Amplifier model and the currently installed firmware version will be displayed as shown: Click on the amplifier photo A window in Updater will open asking you what version of the firmware you want to update to Select the latest version and click ‘Update” Accept the Terms and Conditions When the update completes, the Updater will display a message stating “Your Line 6 product will now restart automatically, and will be ready for use.” IMPORTANT! After the update is complete, power down your Catalyst amplifier, then “RESET” the amplifier by holding down the “B” and “MANUAL” channel buttons while turning the power switch back on. This will update all the presets to the new default settings, so if you want to save your settings, use Catalyst Edit to do so before updating. If the Catalyst fails to update: Power down the amp and close the Updater app. Open the Updater again, then power up the Catalyst while holding A and B to put the unit into bootloader mode. You will then need to manually select the correct Catalyst product from three choices presented by the Updater. Select the latest firmware version, then accept the Terms and Conditions. After the update is complete, power down your Catalyst amplifier, then “RESET” the amplifier by holding down the “B” and “MANUAL” channel buttons while turning the power switch back on.
  9. Changes to macOS Security Policy With Silicon processor computers running macOS Big Sur or greater, Apple has changed their security policy. These machines no longer allow third party drivers to be installed in the manner that they previously had. Driver installs now require the macOS security settings to be lowered before installation. As Silicon is still new to everyone, we expect to see bug fixes, changes and optimizations to macOS Big Sur and possibly subsequent macOS releases over the coming months. With that, the Silicon driver install process may change as well. As such, we encourage you to update your Silicon machine to the latest Big Sur version, which is currently 11.6, before installing drivers. Changing Security Settings Apple’s guide to changing security settings on a Silicon Mac are found at: https://support.apple.com/en-lk/guide/m … 8f7291/mac · Shut down your Mac · Press and hold the power button until you see "Loading startup options …". Your Mac will boot into Recovery mode. · Click Options (the gear icon), then click Continue · In macOS Recovery, you may need to choose your account and click Next. Enter the password and click Continue. · In the top menu go to Utilities...Startup Security Utility · Select the system on which you want to install the Driver. If the disk is encrypted with FileVault, click Unlock, enter the password, and then click Unlock. · Click Security Policy, choose Reduced Security and check the option to allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers · Click OK. Enter the password for your account and click OK. · Restart your Mac from Apple menu Rosetta Installation When installing the Line 6 driver from the downloaded dmg file, you may be prompted to install Rosetta. · If so, click “Install”. Enter your password when requested. · If you see “System Extension Blocked”, go into System Preferences...Security and Privacy, click the lock, enter your password, click Unlock, and choose Allow. · Restart your Mac. Driver Removal It is advised that no programs are open, especially programs that may require the kext that is about to be removed. 1. In Finder, locate the kext file that is to be removed. Kext files are located in Library/Extensions. Keep this finder window open. 2. Open Terminal. Type the following command followed by the pathway of the kext that you would like to remove. Type without the quotes: "sudo kmutil unload -p /Library/Extensions/<Kext Name>". (ex. "sudo kmutil unload -p /Library/Extensions/L6Helix.kext") and click enter. 3. Enter your password. There should be no message after this. 4. Go to the finder window that was left open in step 1 and remove the kext file to the trash. You will be prompted to enter your password. 5. Restart your computer. 6. Go to Library/Extensions in finder and verify that the kext file is no longer in the extensions folder. If you see a message in Terminal (after Step 3), chances are there is another program open operating in the background that may interrupt the command. If so, restart your computer - verify there are no applications open and begin steps 1-6 again.
  10. macOS 10.13/10.14/10.15/11.4 has implemented an additional security layer for kernel extension drivers, such as the Line 6 audio drivers. After the Line 6 device is connected, the customer must open the Security Control Pane and accept the Line 6 driver in order for the device to be recognized. Typically, but not always you'll see this message when your driver gets blocked, or is not available for use with your DAW: However, sometimes the driver gets blocked and the message won't appear. Your driver and hardware simply won't work. In either case, you'd need to approve the driver in System Preferences > Security & Privacy: Additional information about this change can be found at https://developer.apple.com/library/content/technotes/tn2459/_index.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/DTS40017658 For some cases if the "Allow" button does not change anything, or the "Allow" button does NOT disappear after clicking. Please try these steps: Go into: System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Select 'All Controls'. Then: Go back to System Preferences > Privacy & Security > Press 'Tab' until 'Allow' is selected > Press 'Spacebar'. Note: the Privacy & Security page may need to be unlocked before 'Tab' will work.

We suggest you temporarily disable all third party antivirus programs during the installation. During the install, take note of the VST3 and AAX Plugin folder locations. If you choose to install the PC VST2 plugin, you will be able to choose your own folder location. On Mac, VST2 is installed at /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/. PC VST2 only: Open your recording program's preferences and point it to the folder that Helix Native was installed to. 12. i have updated my line 6 UX1 to the latest driver 4.2.7.7 from 4.2.7.6 but when i go to "Line 6 audio-MIDI devices settings" i cannot change the bit depth or buffer size. when i select another size or bit rate, it just reverts back to default. the previous update did not do this. i have uninstalled all line 6 drivers and updated to the new one. i had no luck so i reverted back to the previous update. i would like to update this thing! please help!
  13. If you've installed a Line 6 driver and the device will not subsequently connect, it is possible that the driver is disabled by the system. How to check if the software is disabled by the system: • Click on the Apple symbol in top-left corner of the screen and go to "About this Mac -> Overview ->System Information -> Disabled Software”. • If there is disabled software, it will be presented with a 10-digit software ID and a file descriptor, similar to "VCN535JA6Y - com.line6.driver.xtaudio" • Take a screen shot or write down the ID (in this example it’s VCN535JA6Y – yours might be different). How to enable software that is disabled by the system: • Uninstall the drivers: https://line6.com/support/page/kb/recording/computer-audio-set-up-and-troubleshooting/how-to-uninstall-line-6-drivers-from-mac-osx-r85/ • Reboot to recovery, holding down Command-R while restarting. • From Menu -> Utilities, open Terminal and type the following (replacing the system ID with yours): “spctl kext-consent disable” “spctl kext-consent add VCN535JA6Y" (replace the VCN535JA6Y with yours if different) “spctl kext-consent enable" • Reinstall the driver. • Open System Preferences -> Line6 Audio-Midi devices and plug the device into the Mac. The device should appear in a few seconds.

Marketplace lets you purchase custom Helix presets and impulse responses (IRs) created by select third-party development partners. You can browse by product or developer, listen to audio examples, and even watch demo videos if provided. Checkout is a breeze and you can pay with either credit card or PayPal. Why was Marketplace created? Our primary goal was to develop Helix as an open platform that will serve you for many years to come. We believe that will be best accomplished by supporting a vibrant, thriving community of third-party developers that continually expand the sonic and creative capabilities of Helix, HX, and now POD Go, products. Can anyone become a Marketplace partner? Our goal is to provide you with high-quality products and a great overall experience. For these reasons, we will carefully curate Marketplace and include only partners that we feel meet those expectations. What kinds of products are available on Marketplace? Marketplace offers impulse response files (IRs) and presets. These products will be sold individually and within collections or bundles, for example multiple impulse response files of the same amplifier with different microphones. The exact contents of each product are described on the respective Marketplace shop page. Can I use the Helix Presets in my POD Go? No, POD Go cannot accept Helix or HX presets. How much do Marketplace products cost? Pricing is determined entirely by the third-party developer, and we expect most products will sell for between $5 and $50. Can Marketplace products be returned? Yes. Our standard 15-day return policy applies. Returned Marketplace products will be deactivated once you log out and back in. Will there be free products as well? Some developers may offer free products for promotional purposes. Please check Marketplace listings on a regular basis. Can I still load non-Marketplace presets and IRs? Of course. Marketplace simply provides a convenient way to purchase additional resources and access them at any time. Will Custom Tone be removed? Not to worry. Custom Tone will still be available without changes. Who provides customer support for third-party products? Please contact third-party developers regarding setup and usage of their Helix presets and impulse responses. Third party contact information can be found on corresponding product pages within Marketplace. Contact Line 6 regarding Helix products generally, and questions involving the Marketplace online shop - including billing issues and difficulties downloading or importing presets and IRs. Which Line 6 products work with Marketplace products? Helix Floor, Helix Rack/Control, Helix LT, Helix Native, HX Stomp, HX Effects and POD Go. Do I need a specific firmware and software version to use Marketplace products? Yes. You need these versions (or higher) to support Marketplace: Helix/HX firmware v2.9 HX Edit v2.9 Helix Native v1.9 POD Go firmware version 1.1 POD Go Edit version 1.1 Will you add support for other Line 6 products, y’know, like Powercab? We cannot discuss future development plans at this time. I purchased a Marketplace item and cannot find the software download. Where do I need to look? You can find all your Marketplace downloads on the “Helix Marketplace” page within your Line 6 account. The link to this page is located in the “Hardware & Software” section on the main account page. We also provide a link directly to this page within the “How to Authorize Your Line 6 Product” email that you receive after any Marketplace purchase. Can I use items purchased through Marketplace with non-Line 6 products? All third-party items sold through Marketplace are copy-protected and require HX Edit software, POD Go Edit software or the Helix Native plug-in to work. For this reason, they cannot be used with modeling devices or software from other manufacturers. How does this copy protection method work? Do I need additional hardware or dongles? Products purchased through Marketplace are automatically activated when imported into HX Edit, POD Go Edit or Helix Native. The activation process requires internet connectivity upon first use. The computer that was used for import gets authorized in the process, and no additional hardware or dongles are needed. How many licenses do I get? Can I share these licenses with others? We allow up to four individual computers to be authorized. If you own multiple hardware units, you can update all units without affecting license count. Finally, licenses are tied to your Line 6 user account and cannot be shared with others. Activation requires internet connectivity. How often will I need an internet connection? You will need to have an active internet connection every time you use a newly purchased product. The connection is needed so that our system can validate your license. Once a product was used at least once, the system remembers its state and will allow usage offline without internet access. I discovered that POD Go Edit, HX Edit and Helix Native require Line 6 account log-in. Why is this necessary? You will be asked to log into your Line 6 account if you work with third party products purchased through Marketplace. Log in is only required for the system to install or synchronize licenses, for example when importing third party Helix presets for the first time*. Log in will not be required if you do not use presets or IRs purchased through Marketplace. * On Windows systems, you may need to be online at all times in order to import and export Marketplace presets and IRs. What are the most common uses for IRs? The most common use for an IR that you will see is to replace a Cabinet model with your own third party Cabinet IR. This allows you to use a third-party sound mixed in with your favorite Helix amp tones. The IR in this case will usually include everything about the cabinet model as part of the sound, including: speaker type, mics used, mic placement, room sound. The other way you might see IRs being used is for the purpose of an acoustic simulator, especially modeling the EQ of an acoustic guitar sound. You may see some of these in your preset packs, or offered by third parties as part of a preset bundle. Can I buy dog food, tequila, or 19th-century expressionist paintings via Marketplace? What? No.
  15. I have a POD HD500 that i have just recently bought. I have previous experience with this pedal, but have never run into an issue like this one. I will do my best to explain this without getting anyone confused. I have 2 Computers. A custom build and a factory built Dell. The POD HD500 drivers will not properly install on my custom built PC, but install perfectly fine on the factory built Dell. The custom built computer is my primary computer and the one I am wanting to use for recording. This issue is very odd to me because i have previously had a friends HD500 connected to the custom built pc for 3 months and it worked fine. I haven't made any changes to the computer since then. I have tried installing the drivers as administrator, tried every USB port (which all work fine for any other devices). My PC recognizes the POD HD500 in the device manager, but is not recognized in Line 6 Monkey or HD500 Edit. I am at a loss and would appreciate any helpful advice.

  17. I am running a POD HD500X and the Line 6 Monkey is telling me I have a USB Firmware update from v1.01 to 1.04. When I click Update Selection I get the following error: Update failed. 0xfd from Server - Internal Server Error Make sure the cables are still connected and try again. --- Both my computer and device are authorized and I can connect to my device successfully. Any thoughts?
  18. I'm trying to install the newest HX Edit update, but it fails to verify. Line 6 has a note on the download page for if that issue occurs to download the Line 6 MD5 Checksum utility but the link leads to a page that says there is no Line 6 MD5 Checksum utility download. HELP! Not sure what I did. But it works. haha
  19. Locating Helix Native in Cubase/Nuendo For Mac Launch Cubase or Nuendo. Go to Devices -> Plug-in Manager -> VST Effects and check to see if Helix Native is Active and the box is checked. The default location is C: > Program Files > Common Files > VST3 > Line 6 Adding Helix Native to a track in Cubase Add an audio track. 20. Locating Helix Native in Pro Tools 1. Create a Mono or Stereo Audio Track 2. Open the Mixer Window in Pro Tools (Go to View -> Mix Window), then go to the insert section on the guitar tracks and click Insert A to view the plug-in menu and see if you can find the Helix Native plug-ins via the path: plug-in - Effect -> Helix Native Note: If the plug-in or manufacturer's name is not listed within the plug-in menu, then the plug-in is not detectable by Pro Tools. If the Helix Native plug-in isn't in the list, make sure it shows up in the Pro Tools Plug-ins folder using the directions below. If they don't show up there, try to download and install them again. If it does show up in the plug-ins folder but Pro Tools still doesn't see it, try trashing Pro Tools preferences. That will force Pro Tools to re-scan all the plug-ins in that folder. For Mac Check the Plug-ins Folder: 1. With the Finder open, click on Go and choose Computer. 2. For Pro Tools 11 or 12 (AAX), locate your plug-in at: Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Avid > Audio > Plug-Ins > Line 6 For Windows Check the Plug-ins Folder: For Pro Tools 11 or 12 (AAX), open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins\Line 6

  24. Hello everyone, New to these forums but not new to the Variax. Have been enjoying the heck out of this JTV69 for the past couple years. Was a gift from my father and quickly became my favorite guitar not just for the tuning and modeling but also because it's butter smooth, great action and sustain and is just easy to play. My question may be considered sacrilegious, impractical, or you may ask why I would want to do this. Well, because killswitch stuff is fun and I love learning to cover Buckethead. :P I am trying to install this Iron Age killswitch in the Variax; I understand that a switch would not work on the VDI output, which is fine as I always play conventionally out of the 1/4 inch output, and would mostly use the killswitch with the modeling off like a regular guitar. This thing however has quite an impressive looking 1/4 in jack containing a pc board with two connectors, one with 5 wires and the other with a single wire which I am assuming is a ground. I feel like I'm attempting to disarm a bomb compared to conventional guitars. Where would you guys install this switch in line with? Or which wires in this connector are what? I am telling myself that despite the complexities of this guitar, all that signal has to funnel down to somewhere on this jack where I can kill all signal with the momentary switch. I am comfortable with soldering and have no worries about the actual installation, but need help with figuring out exactly where in the chain to put this. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Cheers! Brandon
  25. I love my JTV-89F. It's one of the best guitars I ever had. But, IMO, EMG active pickups are the best. I use EMG 81 and 85 and they sound great. So I decided to install those in my Variax JTV-89F. After searching the Internet I could not find any source of reliable information regarding this topic. So I decided to share my experience. I made a video documenting the process. You can find it on Youtube. !!! WARNING !!! If you do this, you'll void your guitar warranty. After installation all the Variax models are working perfectly. Also tuning and custom tuning. Issue #1: The EMG pickups do not allow to split coils and the Variax uses a 5 way switch. While in magnetic pickups mode, position 2 produces the same sound as position 1. And position 4 the same sound as position 5. 1 = Bridge 2 = Bridge 3 = Bridge + Neck 4 = Neck 5 = Neck When you activate the modeling mode, all the positions continue to be independent, as in stock mag pickups. Issue #2: When the active pickups are powered, the volume control acts almost as an on-off switch. At 1/5 of a knob turn you start to hear sound already at almost 80% gain. Bellow 1/5 of a turn, no sound at all. Issue #3: Tone knob seems to produce no noticeable effect. That's it. To me, now I have a perfect guitar. I don't use much the tone knob, and I can control volume with my volume pedal.
