  1. I have a JTV-69 (Korean) paired with an HD500x and the acoustic models are giving me a major issue w/ the sound when hitting certain frets. Typically the string/fret that make this noise is A-7&8th fret and also D-4th fret. The sound is almost like a feedback and horrible resonance sound where the sound is much louder than the other frets. Anyone else notice this issue with the acoustic models.
  2. What is the Metallurgy Collection? The MetallurgyTM Collection of amplifier and effects plugins was created specifically for guitarists who wish to quickly and easily access contemporary versions of classic and modern metal tones—as well as craft original tones of their own. The Collection bundles the Modern, Thrash, and Doom plugins, which are also available individually. The Metallurgy Collection plugins feature amplifier and effects models drawn from the award-winning HX® family of products. How many amp models per plugin? Each Metallurgy plugin features four amplifier models carefully chosen to deliver a full range of genre-specific tones. What kind of effects are included? Pre-amplifier Effects Each Metallurgy plugin features 3 (or more) mono. style-specific effects, as well as a polyphonic capo, that can be used before the amp in the signal chain. Post-amplifier Effects Each Metallurgy plugin features two stereo, style-specific effects that may be used after the amp in the signal chain. What about Cabinets, Microphones, and IRs? Each Metallurgy plugin features a choice of eight speaker cabinets and eight microphones, all based on IRs. Two mics may be selected and combined with a stereo room mic array, and up to two third-party Impulse Responses (IRs) may be substituted for the factory mics. Once you’ve logged in and authorized your Metallurgy software, IRs purchased from the Line 6 Marketplace on the same account will be made available in Metallurgy. Can I automate parameters in the Metallurgy Collection? Yes. Nearly every parameter in the Metallurgy Collection can be automated. Does the Metallurgy Collection support MIDI parameter control? Yes, nearly every parameter in the Metallurgy Collection can be controlled via MIDI CC. Is amp switching and amp bypassing via MIDI Learn or automation available? Switching channels via midi/automation is not available because the plugin would have to load the DSP of the alternate channel – which is essentially another model being loaded. Changing amp models in general is not supported via midi and automation. You can bypass an amp model and its DSP by disabling (bypassing) the amp view in the top toolbar. That also is not supported via midi learn or automation. There are other ways to bypass/mute that are midi/automation supported within the cab view’s mixer. Is the UI resizable? Not at launch. We’re working on it. Does the Metallurgy Collection support Retina displays (2x resolution)? Yes. The Metallurgy Collection includes Retina support. Is there Undo/Redo functionality? Yes, Undo/Redo is included at launch, along with A/B Compare. Does the Metallurgy Collection have a built-in tuner? Yes, it does include a chromatic tuner. Will there be a standalone version? Yes, each plugin includes standalone functionality. Are there any artist presets? Not at launch. 3. Hi, I don't know what's going on with my Pod Bass Pro XT the outputs are messed up. I didn't use it for a long time and I can't get DI and Model outputs on their dedicated plug (both XLR and jacks). I only have the model signal on both. I tried everything from changing the studio mode to bi-amp etc but it doesn't change anything. I also factory reset, it didn't work. It's like it's stuck on "headphones on" mode even without them plugged in. I put some contact cleaner in the phone jack as well in case there were a switch stuck but same thing, no fix. I think it's more on the software side. Do you know how to fix this issue and have the 2 different signals on the DI and Model outputs? Thanks a lot in advance! Damien

  5. Hello, I'm having trouble getting the sound I was hoping for on the Helix, and I need some help. I'm sure it's my lack of experience with gear and effects that's the problem, not the Helix. I watched all the Jason Sadites videos and regularly read through this forum, and I do seem to be SLOWLY getting closer, but I also wonder if there is not something more fundamental wrong with my setup or settings - like guitar, monitor speakers, amp choice, etc. Here's how I'd describe the sound I'm going for: Warm, smooth, thick, rich clean tone, with some reverb/spaciousness, and a little overdrive to give it a soaring quality. I tend to prefer smoothness and warmth to pinpoint clarity and accuracy, and I definitely don't like twangy sounds. - My guitar. I have an American Elite Strat. It's great, but the single coils are probably at odds with my tonal goals. I use the neck pickup exclusively, but want it to be even more "neck-pickup-like" if that makes sense. The bridge pickups sound unusably harsh and twangy to my ears through the Helix. - I have monitor speakers connected to the Helix as my "amp". Yamaha HS7's - they are nice monitors, but possibly not as guitar "amp" and this may be part of the problem. - Over headphones, I get closer to the sound I'm looking for. Things sound spacious and rich in comparison to the monitor speaker setup. - I get a harsh digital sounding tone anytime I use a delay block. This is not as important as the main tone issue, but it is pretty pronounced, and maybe this gives a clue to what's going on. Weirdly, ping pong delay is the only one I've found that doesn't have this problem as bad. - The sound was way too harsh and digital sounding until I turned on the global EQ and dialed down the high cut to a low level, around 5kHz - Using ribbon mic's on the cabinets helps immensely as well. I've not otherwise messed with trying different cabs or cab settings... - I've experimented with different amp models, and some work better than others, but the base fenders work the best: US Double vib/nrm. - Before Helix, I used a Yamaha THR10C, and found the chorus effect to give that smooth rich sound. (it doesn't actually sound like a chorus, and I only mention this in case anyone has experience with this) Appreciate the help!! Attached is a tone example (excuse my intermediate-lollipop playing) and also a settings file in case that's useful. Thanks, JoelMAIN Headphones.hlx Test Sound Clip Main Headphones.m4a
  6. Hi, I have just upgraded from a Variax 300 (1st gen) to the JTV 69. I have just discovered there are a lot less pickup models on the JTV. One of my favourites was the Lester Custom which had a driven output. I cannot see model packs for the JTV, are they available and I'm just blind or is the pickup modelling a lot more limited? Thanks
  7. Trying to program different guitar models to change via Snapshots. SO I programmed a preset with different effects, then in the Variax settings to "global" and then hold and dialled until my desired guitar model was shown in brackets. Saved the preset then changed to snapshot 2 turned the knob until I had my other desired guitar model into brackets and saved again. Now when I change the snapshots, all the effects on/off work as expected, but for the guitar model to change it doesn't work reliably. Sometimes it stays at the model the switch on the guitar is set to. Sometimes it switches to the right guitar model 2 or 3 times, and sometimes it even selects a complete different model. I programmed Snapshot 1 with Shuriken and Snapshot 2 with Leicester 5. Coming from a preset where I used acoustic 2 it should change to Shuriken, but stays on acoustic2. Then I change to snapshot 2 and I get the right Leicester 5, than back to Snap 1 I get the right Shuriken, but then back to Snap two all of a sudden I get Leicester-1 Am I missing something ? 8. Just wondering if we could get a helix model of this in the new update? I figured it would help me have more game and increase my chances of satisfying my female audience members. Thanks! https://www.musicradar.com/news/steel-panther-court-controversy-with-lollipop-melter-signature-distortion-pedal
  9. For anyone who is interested I have created a webpage that allows you to listen to a simple sample from each of the modeled guitars in the default Factory selection. Simply click the icon of the guitar, or the play icon to hear the sample. The samples are recorded straight to my DAW and a small amount of reverb has been added. http://www.ccjmusic.com/line6-variax-models.php This page is an extension of the reference by Luis as found at https://freeshell.de/~luis/guitars/Variax 500.pdf so thanks goes to Luis for the hard work. I hope you find it helpful Colin
  10. I'm new to the whole Variax thing (Shuriken and Helix floor) and, after reading all manuals and looking up every video I could find, trying to see if I have a lemon or am doing something wrong. Goal: I want two presets, one acoustic and one Lester-based, each with four snapshots (chorus, distortion, etc.) and tuned differently. I have the Shuriken tuned to drop D, want the Lester to remain in drop D, but have the acoustic tuned to standard. I would love for all five acoustics to be accessible via the pickup selector, but that isn't critical. What I really want is everything run from the floor. When I hit the Acoustic button, I want acoustic in standard tuning to come up. When I switch to electric, I want the Lester to come up and in the native drop D. I really don't want to have to hit a foot switch and futz with the guitar dials as I need to do it quickly. FYI, each time I edit, I resave religiously. I am having the following problems: 1) When I switch back and forth between the two presets, I often seem to end up on Jazz 5, no matter what I do with the model knob. To get acoustic sounds on the acoustic preset, I have to turn the knob away, and then turn it back to acoustic. 2) I don't see any consistency in the tuning between the two. Sometimes it seems to change correctly, and other times it stays with what was on the previous preset. I could probably fix #2 by altering the acoustic model in workbench (?), as I would likely mostly want acoustics in standard and electrics in drop D or something else. But, that wouldn't seem to solve #1. I swear I have tried every combination of Variax setting (Global, Per Preset) and get no consistency. Any help or recommendations would be appreciated.
  11. Hi, Wading through all of the many amp models on Spider V, and wondering what amp model you would say is closest to the PHD Motorway on the HD Platform (emulates a Dr. Z RT66) Thank!

    Latency

So I've proudly owned a Helix since March 2016. I've gigged with it a ton and I've always forgone the amp and cab modelling route and instead, I've run the 4CM and used the unit more of a pedalboard. I've dabbled in using some preamp models in front of my amp with pleasant results. I've gigged with this set up a TON. Always happy with everything I've gotten out of it. Recently I played a small club gig and ran the Helix straight into the board with an amp/cab model in place of my FX send/return block. It sounded great, but I did experience some noticeable latency. I've never noticed any latency running the 4CM without amp/cab models. I'd really like to be able to run this rig without hauling an amp to these gigs, but I find myself hesitant about not having an amp and relying solely on the modelling. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions or possible remedies?
  13. Hello Helix users! First time post for me. I wanted to give some feedback on amp models I have encountered. Maybe some of you can relate! For reference, here's my current setup: ESP Eclipse (EMG 81/60) Signal chain: Guitar --- ISP Decimator ProRack G (pre) --- Helix --- ISP Decimator ProRack G (post) --- Mesa Boogie Stereo 2:50 Power amp --- 4x12 Stereo Cab (Celestion V30s) For my setup here, I am primarily using the preamp models, so the majority of my feedback here is surrounding them, though I feel the full amp models are reflected in a very similar way. Topic 1: The Cali IV Lead Gain/Drive - I'll preface this by saying I am a current Mark V owner, and have played various other Mesa Boogie Mark Series amplifiers. The gain saturation I am able to achieve from the real amplifiers is far more than the model is capable of. Seeking that Hetfield chug tone, I should conceivably be able to go straight from the guitar into a Mark IV and have all the gain necessary to get that tone, without having to put an overdrive in front of it (especially with active pickups). Overdrives, even with the tone control all the way down make the sound just a bit more tinny and thin. I have a good work-around right now, putting the Minotaur pedal in front with very low gain/tone, and turning the Lead Gain and Drive all the way up in the preamp model. Also, I've EQ-ed the crap out of it. To get that sharp bite I'm looking for, for boogies it's common that you must turn the bass control down, and adjust accordingly in the post EQ, which I've done. However, the Cali IV Lead model (in my humble opinion) should have loads more gain available to it that would be on par with say the "Line 6 Electrik" model. I'll finish this by saying that despite this one criticism, the Cali IV model sounds and acts SPOT ON to a Mark IV. Really impressed with it overall. And for anyone wanting to achieve that signature Boogie Hetfield tone (I would say the best representation of what I'm talking about is the song "Breadfan"), here's basically how I did it: Minotaur Pedal - Gain 1, Tone, 1, Level 6 Cali IV Lead - Lead Gain 10, Lead Drive 10, Bass 0, Mid 5, Treble 8, Master 3, Five Band EQ is all flat, except for 750hz at -8.0, and 2200hz at +2.0 Parametric EQ - 80hz +12.0, 240hz -5.0, 795hz -8.0 Everyone knows that taking out 750-800hz will get that scooped sound, but adding on that, if you dial down the 240hz range, it sculps the deeper bass to emerge ever more prominently, resulting in a very thunderous thump for all of your galloping desires. Also, the overall tone is still maintained very full, as only very specific frequency ranges are tweaked. Just my experience. Topic 2: All High Gain Models Are Muddy - After playing around with most of the high gain models, I've come to realize that I'm really only satisfied with the Cali IV (as mentioned above), and the Line 6 Electrik models. Reason being, on all of the other ones, to include the Rectifier, JCM800, 5150, and Soldano Lead, the higher the gain is turned up, the more muddy the bottom end turns into. Now, I own a Dual Rec, and have played on a JCM800 and 5150, and know that the bottom end of those amps is as sharp as a knife. I am aware as well that the Master control in these amp models has a direct effect on the tone of the amps. However, no matter where I have it set on any of them, it turns to muck when the gain goes up. I have also experimented with using amp blocks instead of preamp blocks and found there is little difference in regards to this specific issue. Granted, with the setup I have described above, it makes sense to use the preamp models, but at low/night time volume levels, the amp blocks sound good through my poweramp and cab as well. I really look forward to any comments the community would like to share about my topics, as well as any feedback the Line 6 staff/techs may feel compelled to share. Thanks! Mike
  14. So I'm considering a Helix rack as my main guitar setup and the only thing that I really want to know is how good are the amp models and IR's really? I've seen plenty of youtube reviews and testimonies online about how good the uni is as an 'fx' only box, but I'd love to use it as an amp sim while using my own pedals. I'd obviously be happy to use some of the inbuilt effects when I need them, but how do the amps hold up on their own is what I need to know. Just to note as well, I mainly play clean or light crunch so I'm not hugely bothered about the Mesa or Soldano sims being 'fizzy' or whatever. Thanks in advance for the help!
  15. Is there an Amplifi model gallery that explains in detail what amps and effects are in Amplifi? Thanks, T
  16. This is more or less a feature request, but if you folks ever decide to update the JTV models again, it would be wonderful to have a Nylon string acoustic in there. (e.g. Spanish guitar or Django Rheinhardt). I myself would gladly give up the acoustic-3 "Parlor guitar" for something with a little more flavor. I'm sure others would disagree, so I'm not sure about replacing existing models, but it seems like a nylon string model could be done, and it would open a huge creative world. There's nothing but steel string models now. Let me know if that's possible. Thank you.
  17. My setup: JTV59 > VDI > HD500 > USB > DAW JTV fw v2.21 HD500 fw v2.62 Chosen JTV model Lester Bridge unmodified compared against JTV59 bridge. Chosen HD500 patch - my own custom built using Marshall 100 model. The patch has a Hard Gate and then the Amp model, followed by a parametric EQ to remove the harshness around 3K, and then a Vintage pre EQ to remove bottom (80hz) and top (7khz) ends, and then finally a room reverb. And then a blank patch with both L + R sides boosted by 6db at mixer stage. Noted behaviour: On my custom patch the Lester Model drives the Marshall 100 amp model slightly harder than the JTV mags. (There is less difference on the recordings than I can hear on headphones A/B ing the two sounds - the mags always produce a clearer slightly less driven tone). On the blank patch the Lester Model has way less volume than the JTV mags. Attached sound file showing Marshall patch with Lester model followed by JTV mags, and then blank patch showing Lester model followed by JTV mags. Question: If the JTV mags are so much louder than the modelled Lester Bridge, then why does the modelled Lester bridge drive the Marhsall 100 model harder than the louder JTV mag bridge humbucker? I expected the louder pickup signal to drive the model amp harder but it is the other way around in this instance. JTV-Model-Mags-Compare.zip
  18. I'm playing this song this weekend (just found out about it) and most of my heavy gain patches are a little too dark/metal sounding for the song (up through 0:40 will give a good sampling). http://www.mediafire.com/listen/5cj6thzaqy1pztu/02+Joy+to+the+World.mp3 I'm not looking for someone to make a patch for me or anything like that, I'd just like some suggestions on an amp model and/or distortion pedal model that would get me in the ballpark of this tone. I'm plenty comfortable enough to build the patch to sound good in the live mix, it's just that since I bought my HD500X last April, I haven't familiarized myself with all of the amp models as much as I would like to have by now. So what are some good amp models to start with to get somewhere near the tone for the song in the link? I'm thinking maybe one of the Marshall amp models, but if anyone has a better starting point, I'd appreciate any recommendations.
  19. Is there a way to restore the factory model settings to their original values and without affecting the currently saved presets under the A, B, C, D buttons? For the most part, all but one of the amp/cab models is fine. However, there's just no way the Blackface Lux can be right. It's very thin and the level is much lower than other similar amp/cab settings. I suspect that the previous owner had somehow modified and saved this... if that's possible. Hope that's the case and that I can get it back to something more reasonable.

  21. The GearBox Gold Plug-In Bundle contains the same models that are found in Line 6's flagship product, the Vetta II, plus it adds the Bass Expansion model pack. In essence, the Gold Bundle includes every model that Line 6 offers. The Silver Bundle had the same standard set of amp models found in the GuitarPort and TonePort. Some of the models included with the PODxt family of devices are not found in the TonePort, GuitarPort or the Silver Bundle unit. As of August 1st, 2008, all TonePort DI-Silver Bundle devices receive a complimentary free update to Gold Bundle status. Below is a brief summary of how model pack combinations added to the GuitarPort, TonePort or Silver bundle devices compare to those devices that include more models: Power Pack models update the GuitarPort/TonePort/Silver/POD Studio model set to match the PODxt/PODxt Pro model set. Power Pack and the FX Junkie model packs update the GuitarPort/TonePort/Silver model set to match the PODxt Live model set. Power Pack, plus the FX Junkie, Collector Classic, and Metal Shop (collectively known as the Triple Pack) model packs update the GuitarPort/TonePort/Silver model set to match the Vetta II model set. Power Pack, the Triple Pack and the Bass Expansion models update the GuitarPort/TonePort/Silver/POD Studio model set to match the Gold Bundle model set. The model sets used with the GuitarPort, TonePort and PODxt family devices are not VST plug-in ready when purchased. The online purchase and activation of the POD Farm 2.5 plug-in is necessary to use them as plug-in effects in a DAW/recording program. Q: Can I put guitar model packs or licenses for POD Farm or Gearbox plug-ins onto a Bass PODxt? A: No, the Bass POD units cannot install additional model packs or licenses for those programs. Q: Can I purchase model packs and /or plug-ins without a credit card? A: Our accounting system is only set up to accept transactions with a credit card. This includes the prepaid type.
