  1. I am aware of snapshot power and how to change their behavior in Global Settings. However there is one feature that I miss in this logic. "Snapshot safe" setting for DSP block bypass. it is used in digital mixers. When you load a snapshot you can choose which channels are not affected - safe. Choosing "snapshot safe" setting would cause no bypass state change while changing snapshots. What do you think?
  2. Hi all! Just a quick question: is it possible to assign an expression pedal to control, for example, the volume, in a snapshot, and change the function of that very expression pedal in another snapshot, for example, a wah control?
  3. Trying to program different guitar models to change via Snapshots. SO I programmed a preset with different effects, then in the Variax settings to "global" and then hold and dialled until my desired guitar model was shown in brackets. Saved the preset then changed to snapshot 2 turned the knob until I had my other desired guitar model into brackets and saved again. Now when I change the snapshots, all the effects on/off work as expected, but for the guitar model to change it doesn't work reliably. Sometimes it stays at the model the switch on the guitar is set to. Sometimes it switches to the right guitar model 2 or 3 times, and sometimes it even selects a complete different model. I programmed Snapshot 1 with Shuriken and Snapshot 2 with Leicester 5. Coming from a preset where I used acoustic 2 it should change to Shuriken, but stays on acoustic2. Then I change to snapshot 2 and I get the right Leicester 5, than back to Snap 1 I get the right Shuriken, but then back to Snap two all of a sudden I get Leicester-1 Am I missing something ? 4. Hi there, I have been trying to figure how to change setlists/patches/snapshots with midi through ableton live. Having read the manual and had an extensive look here/online, I could gather that: Change a Setlist - CC32 - to whichever is needed Change a Patch - PC - to the relevant one Change a snapshot - CC69 - to the relevant snapshot The ultimate aim is that I run backing tracks through Live (as of up to now I have been running scenes for each song in session view) And can leave the Helix offstage, but having some issues. So I have been creating a midi clip under the audio track needed in arangemenrt view. As the setlist needed was the first one, I had not input anything CC32 wise, I had input the PC as the relevant patch, and then in the envelope, selected 69 and drawn a line between 0 and 3 to trigger the relevant snapshot as the track moves on through. My main issue is that at points I can do this and it seems to work fine, then I run the track again and just either doesnt work, or selects different snapshots. A few things that I had noticed: - For a patch change the PC number had to be 1 higher than the actual number for some reason? - When trying to change to a different setlist, I have had to put the bank as 36, the sub as the correct one (3 ikn this case) and then the PC as the correct one (2 in this case) and it would work. But then again I would try the track agian and just would not work. So am hoping/praying/begging that someone may be able to give me a breakdown on how to do this from scratch, am reletively new to midi so just working things out for myself, but seem to be hitting a brick wall. Ideally, where do I set the CC32 number to select the setlist, then the same with the patch and snapshot, and get this working in a live situation. Have attached a screenshot to show how the notes/envelope is setup. Any help would be greatly appreciated :) Many Many thanks Steve
  5. Hi All! I am building a preset in Helix Native and cannot for the life of me figure out how to change a parameter for just one snapshot. Example: I have an IR block that applies to all 5 of my snapshots. However, when switching to a clean sound, I want to boost the Level of the IR a few dB. I know on my Helix Floor, I just push in the parameter knob and it turns that value white. Can this be done in Native? Thanks!!!

1-click Looper in 8 snapshot mode?

Could you add the 1-click-looper to a preset and have it turned off in all but one of 8 snapshots? If not assigned to a footswitch then I guess you might not see the color changes as it goes from recording to overdub to playback etc.

    Switching to 8 snapshots mode

I think I know the answer to this, but why not ask... I typically run in 4 snapshots-4 stomps mode. Pressing the Mode switch puts you into all stomps mode, which I use to get to some lesser-used fx. Is there a similar way to get to all-snapshots mode? AFAIK, no, but I'd love to be wrong.

    Firmware update snapshot issue

Hi all, I have discovered that after updating my Helix to 2.50, when I change snapshots my external amp channel is no longer changing. I have two different external amps I use depending on what is required with a separate setlist set up for which amp I am using and the fault is common on both setups. The light ring around the appropriate footswitch lights up, but the relay doesn't appear to trigger. It works if I turn the assigned footswitch off and back on again and have tried reconfiguring the snapshot with no luck. I have reset the unit and reinstalled my back up with the same result. So far the only fix I have found was to reinstall V2.30 firmware so the problem seems to be in the latest update. Anyone else experiencing this issue? I would love to get this working as I have a song that requires the Seeker and voice box effects which are only available in the latest update. Thanks Steve
  9. Hi, I thought the Snapshot allowed me to change ANY parameters but not model. But what I'm finding is that the DRIVE is global and if I change the DRIVE on one Snapshot it effects all Snapshots. Am I doing something wrong? I'm sure many people need to increase the drive at certain parts of a song. Help? Gary

    Snapshots and CC Toggle Footswitch

I've had my Helix Rack for about 2 weeks and I'm really enjoying it. I'm having an issue and while I have workarounds I'm looking for some input. I use the Helix in 4CM with an analog looper (RJM Rack Gizmo) and my amp (Mark V). The looper responds to MIDI CC as well as Program Change messages. I currently have Program Change messages disabled on the Helix and am using CC either as an instant command or assigned to a footswitch. I use these to switch channels and enable the 3 OD pedals I have in the loops. The problem I'm having is related to saving the state of a CC Toggle assigned footswitch to a snapshot. From what I can tell the Helix does seem to attempt to save the state of the footswitch but when I select a new snapshot the "enabled" CC Toggle switches don't seem to have any effect. Also, currently active CC Toggle footswitches dim the LED as expected but the appropriate CC message doesn't appear to transmit to disable the loop. I realize that I can use Instant CC messages and have been doing that as well but I'd like to assign my loops to a FS on some patches. Is anyone else using the Helix like this and have you been able to use Snapshots?
  11. I've been looking through the LT manual and trying various methods...and can't seem to find this. Isn't it possible to copy a snapshot from 1 preset and paste into a completely different preset to another snapshot. I see where you can copy/swap/paste within "A" preset, but seems crazy with all this unit can do that you couldn't do this. Nooby trying to figure it out - thanks in advance for any help. K
  12. I just got a Helix and I'm liking it ok by it's self, but I'm running into some midi issues that are getting a little frustrating. I want to set it up to control my Strymon Mobius, TimeLine, and BigSky with midi without having to dedicate a loop to each. Here's where I'm at and maybe someone can suggest a way I can get this to work. I did have the Helix set up using the 4 cable method with my amp in loop 1. The 3 strymon pedals above are in loop 2 all assigned to their own midi channels. I also have a poly tune set up in loop 3 to be always on (the Helix tuner isn't that great). I have a Riverside OD set up in Loop 4 with the favorite function being controlled using the CV connector on Helix. With it set up like this I can get everything to work in stomp box mode without any problems excluding the lights on the Helix sometimes getting out of sync with the pedal. For example pedal is bypassed but the Helix light for that channel is illuminated (no big deal, I can live with this minor issue). I used midi CC# 80,81, and 82 to toggle the Strymon pedals A and B (and C on BigSky) buttons. The problems began when I started to set up Snapshots. I tried using the Instant commands to bring up a patch on a desired pedal using the midi program function 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. That method would bring up patches ok but when I toggled through the Snapshots some of the presets would be on when I didn't want them to be and would then toggle off when I wanted them to be on etc... After a little more research I found out that I needed a bypass command to apply before the new preset could be commanded on. After research I found out that Helix can't change CC# with snapshots, only the values within a CC. After finding this out I decided to go a different route. Now, Try 2... I've got the Helix completely reset to factory defaults. I cleared all blocks on the first preset and started fresh. I wired all strymon pedals in their own FX Loop so I can toggle off by bypassing the the block (I hate to loose the 4 cable method here, but I guess I can live with that for now). Ive set them up in stomp box mode and got everything working just as I had last time. Now on the the Snapshots I run into problems again. I would save each snapshot by going into stomp box mode and toggle on what I wanted then save each accordingly. Doing that I got the Mobius and Timeline to work, BUT the BigSky wants to be a BigPain in the ....... !! This pedal will not respond correctly no matter what channel its on, what program# I choose, even the CC80, 81, and 82 for the bank buttons. For example, If I toggle on a preset in bank A it will toggle that on and off when commanded to toggle Bank C. If I press the Bank A button on the Bigsky to switch it back to that bank it will work for a couple of snapshot changes and then back to the wrong preset. Sometimes it works fine going from Snaphot 1 to 2 to 3, but when I go from 3, to 2, to 1 it gets all messed up again. It's completely erratic behavior and I can't duplicate the issue to track down a solution. I've checked the commands on each snapshot and they are correct and set up the same as the TimeLine and Mobius. I've gone into global settings on the BigSky and Helix and tried different combinations as well as a factory reset on the BigSky, same thing. Any ideas??? I'm really hoping to get this resolved because I really want to keep the Helix as part of my rig. If not I'll ditch it for a Mastermind PCB. Sorry for the novel!

    Snapshots in Helix Native

Hi there, Wondering if is possible to use snapshots feature we have in Helix patches (.hlx) with Native version. I have both versions (Helix floor and Native) but I couldn't find how to change snapshots when using Native version. I'm using Helix Native with Logic Pro X on Mac. Thanks a lot! Andre
  14. Hey guys, I just purchased my helix and have been incredibly impressed with its capabilities so far. I will say, I haven't been able to dial in any tones that feel right with all the amp/cab simulations, but I'm totally happy with using this for all its other capabilities. However... I am pretty disappointed with the delay switching and the weird warpy-ness that happens when switching delay times within a preset using the snapshots. The only work around I've found so far is to switch to a snapshot where the delay is off, then to the one with the desired delay. I know you're bound to encounter some weirdness when you start messing with the delay time when the effect is engaged, but I was previously using a Boss DD-20 to toggle between one delay preset and the next with different speeds/feedbacks, and it was totally seamless. So easy. I'm not liking the idea of having to go back to the core setting on the helix in between delays. Any help would be greatly appreciated. As of now, I just stuck my DD-20 in one of the helix's effects loop, and it sounds great. The only downside to that is I'm running the delay completely wet, and tweaking the mix/level parameters on the loop doesn't sound nearly as good adjusting the pedal's level knob. So, I will not have full programmability over over these parameters and will have to go back to manually adjusting and using tap tempo like the pre-Helix days, unless I can get this resolved :(

Control external gear via MIDI in snapshot mode?

Hi all, I was wondering if it is possible to control external gear via MIDI with Helix in snapshot mode? I would like to select a snapshot and in that snapshot select the correct program on a Whammy pedal and activate it. I've tried it but I got no success. I remind have read somewhere in the manual that controlling MIDI devices is only abailable in stombox mode? this seems unlogical to me as at least in preset mode should be able to do it, but not sure about snapshot mode... Thanks!

    Midi in snaphots

I own a Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 36 and I am using it via the 4 cable method with my Helix. The Tubemeister can be controlled via Midi – I succeeded in changing the Tubmeister's sound from Clean to Crunch and Lead with the footswitches in Helix. I used the CommandCenter to assign the footswitches to the amp's channels. But what I want to do either is to create different sounds with the Helix‘ snapshot feature. Is it possible to send an Midi command (e. g. for the Clean channel) to the amp when activating Snapshot 1, another Midi command (e. g. for the Crunch channel) on Snapshot 2, etc.? I did not find any option to assign a Midi command to a snapshot … Thanks for your answers! Ulf

    Snapshot and Variax control

Searching the forum, reading the manual, digging around on the Helix, can't find an answer so finally giving in, and posting a likely dumb question: I know a Preset can control Variax pickup selection, model and tunings. Can a Snapshot? I set up my Helix floor to be 4 Presets along the top and 4 Snapshots along the bottom. I'd like the Snapshots to control Variax mag and model pickup selection as well as model pickup tuning. Thx.
  18. Still rather new to the Helix and coming at this from my experiences using an AX8, which I've had longer and I am more familiar with. I'm comparing the two to decide which to keep, but that's a thread for a different day. So my questions. 1) I've gathered that the footswitch layouts are limited to a set of predefined options, which is kind of a bummer for me. The closest to what I want is the snap/stomp option. However, what if a preset only has 2-3 snapshots as is often the case for mine? The 3rd/4th snapshot is still displayed and its footswitch still "active" even through the snapshot isn't set up. Is there any way to disable or reassign these unused snapshot footswitches? 2) With the AX8 I use what's called Control Switches as a sort of lead boost that can be activated on any scene (the AX8 equivalent of snapshots). On the Helix I think it's pretty similar with the Controller Assignment but haven't worked it all out yet. On the AX8 I set a footswitch to control/adjust multiple blocks and various parameters across blocks. Typically I engage an EQ block, add a little dB boost, and also bump the input gain on the amp. I haven't tried yet but I'm assuming I can do the same on the Helix, engage a block and adjust a couple parameters all with a single footswitch and one that will be available across all snapshots in a preset? Number 1 is still a bit of a shortcoming, at least with how I set up my presets. Now if only they Helix would allow full flexibility in footswitch assignments similar to the AX8, that would be a very nice feature add.
  19. I have the Helix LT for almost a week now, and I am tweaking parameters a lot. Constantly manually setting the controller to 'snapshot'. I am thinking : my workflow would really benefit when all the controllers of all parameters by default have the value 'snapshot'. Is that possible? The default value now is 'none'. EDIT: hmmm...I read in the manual that each preset can have maximum of 64 controlller assignments. So that can be a problem. Hmm....but perhaps someone knows a trick to fastly assign multiple controllers to the value 'snapshot' ......but I guess not.....the maximum of 64 is a problem.....now, if anyone has some thoughts about it, happy to hear it.
  20. I'm on version 2.12. According to the manual and some video's I've watched when I press the two bank switches together to enter snapshot mode I should see the 8 scribble strips change to snapshot. Although on mine they are just blank. I do see the camera icon at the top right and I do have the preference for showing 8 snapshots on the FS set. The manual says this, "The middle eight switches flash, indicating a snapshot is ready to be selected. The current snapshot's footswitch lights red and its camera lens appears inverted." Simply nothing happens on mine other than the bank switches change to snapshot and that so far it seems is the only way I can move through the snaps is by pressing the bank switches up and down. Am I missing some configuration?

    How do you delete/reset snapshots?

Hi I have experienced an error regarding snapshots. I copied a preset which has 8 snaps to a new location and started editing it so it ended up somewhat different than initially. When the preset was done I would like to change the snaps, but when I pressed one of the other snapshots-buttons my Helix froze and I had to restart it to get it to work. A user on TheGearPage suggested that I should Clear All Block Assignments to clear the snaps, but that did not have any effect. The only solution I could where to copy each block to a new empty preset which is a quite tedious process. Afterwards I exported both presets and had a look at the hlx-files. The default snapshot settings will look like this: "snapshot1" : { "@name" : "SNAPSHOT 2", "@tempo" : 120.0 }, "snapshot2" : { "@name" : "SNAPSHOT 3", "@tempo" : 120.0 }, "snapshot3" : { "@name" : "SNAPSHOT 4", "@tempo" : 120.0 }, "snapshot4" : { "@name" : "SNAPSHOT 5", "@tempo" : 120.0 }, "snapshot5" : { "@name" : "SNAPSHOT 6", "@tempo" : 120.0 }, "snapshot6" : { "@name" : "SNAPSHOT 7", "@tempo" : 120.0 }, "snapshot7" : { "@name" : "SNAPSHOT 8", "@tempo" : 120.0 } When you then create snaps more attributes are added (first snap from the corrupted preset): "snapshot1" : { "@name" : "Rv+Trem", "@tempo" : 120.0, "blocks" : { "dsp0" : { "block0" : true, "block1" : true, "block2" : false, "block3" : false, "block4" : false, "block5" : false, "block6" : true, "block7" : true, "block8" : false, "block9" : true }, "dsp1" : { "block0" : false, "block1" : false, "block2" : false, "block3" : true, "block4" : false } } } It seems like the information in the snaps are not changed correctly when the preset is changed so when choosing a different snapshot it attempts to change a block/parameter which is not there which causes the Helix to freeze. So would like to clear out the snapshots to get back to the default setting, but so far I hav'nt found a solution. I have thought about just editing directly in the file, but it would be nice if changes in the presets were also reflected in the snaps. Have anybody else experienced this problem?

    Snapshot conversion surprise

Yesterday I did my first conversion of a preset with a bunch of stomps to be half stomps and half snapshots. The snapshots are overdrive levels, and the stomps are fx that can be applied to any of them (chorus, delay, etc.). Here's what I did: - Named the first 4 snapshots appropriately, for clarity - With all overdrive stomps off, saved the preset with the first snapshot (Clean) selected - Recalled the second snapshot (OD 1), which so far wasn't any different, clicked the first of my overdrive stomp buttons to turn on the blocks and apply any parameters for that level of drive, then saved the preset, defining snapshot #2 - Repeated that step for the other two overdrive levels and snapshots At that point, I expected that each snapshot would have the right things bypassed, but not the right parameter settings. I planned to go through every block, find any parameters controlled by footswitches, note which switch controlled it and the two settings for it, then set that parameter to snapshot control, and manually set the parameter to the on value in the snapshot corresponding to that stomp switch, and to the off value in the other three snaps. I started to do that, but discovered that after enabling snapshot control on a parameter, *all four snapshots had the correct values for that snapshot already*. How is that possible? I thought you had to select Snapshots as the controller for a parameter to get Helix to remember different settings per snapshot for it. When I noticed that, I short-circuited my conversion process by just setting every switch-controlled parameter to Snapshots, and that's all. There appeared to be no need to adjust the parameter's settings for each snapshot. Simpler and quicker, but unexpected, and I don't get it. Logically, that seems to say that Helix actually remembers the state of every parameter for every snapshot, whether Snapshots is selected as the controller for it or not. Can anyone confirm or deny that that's true? Is it then the case that enabling Snapshot control allows that parameter to be controlled by those settings, but the state of every parameter as of when it was saved is already part of every snapshot, whether it's being used or not? It occurred to me later that I should have done the experiment of NOT setting all those parameters to Snapshot control, to further understand what was happening, but I didn't actually do that, I just accepted the results I had, since they were what I wanted. (Really, I wouldn't want to leave things that way anyway, that mix of switch and snap control would be way too unclear, and I didn't need or want those switches involved. By choosing Snapshot control, I'd already disconnected all parameter control from the switches, so I just unhooked them all from bypassing anything, and the switch labels disappeared, as expected, since they no longer did anything.) So functionally, I got what I wanted, more easily than expected, but I feel less like I understand how snapshots work in detail than I did before I started.
  23. Snapshots are great, but the fact that they always recall the on-off state of all blocks means you can't use one as a simple volume boost, for example. If would add a lot of flexibility if there was an option in each snapshot to NOT recall any block on-off states, but only make whatever parameter changes are recorded in the snapshot. By default, it would recall block states too, but that could be disabled. The fact that snapshots can store way more parameter settings than a stomp switch makes them very powerful. Since you can't freely mix snapshot and stomp footswitches, this capability would be super useful to me. If you agree, please vote it up on Ideascale.
  24. UPDATED (original post did not include the number of characters difference between snapshots and preset/pedal names): Well, I have been using the snapshots for a bit now and they are fantastic, but although that snapshot icon that resembles a camera in the scribble strip icon looks really cool it is taking up way too much space on the scribble strip. The camera icon takes up 6 character spaces. This means that although presets and pedal names can have 16 characters, snapshots are limited to only 10. It would be great if we could reduce the indicator for a snapshot to one character like a block or an asterisk (or even none) and leave the rest of the characters for the snapshot's name. Or maybe just reverse the background and font or something else that would not take up any characters. I am finding I have to abbreviate, or sometimes simply don't have enough characters to descriptively name my snapshots properly. Perhaps we could have a global option that allows those who like it to keep the camera icon and gives back the rest of us the six characters that the camera eats up and provides an alternate way of visually indicating a snapshot. Once you have used your Helix for a couple of days with snapshots you know which footswitches they are, e.g. top row or bottom row, and you really start to want your scribble strip characters back for more descriptive and longer snapshot names. I hope Line6 considers getting rid of the camera icon in the scribble strip in the next firmware release, finds a better yet still obvious way to indicate a snapshot, and rededicates most if not all of those scribble strip characters to useful namespace. Please vote for this idea here: http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Use-less-or-no-scribble-strip-spaces-to-indicate-a-snapshot/831165-23508
