  1. Deutsch Français Q: Can I use multiple transmitters with 1 receiver? A: Yes, you can use multiple transmitters with 1 receiver, however not at the same time on the same channel. The best practice for that type of usage is to have Transmitter A on channel 1 and Transmitter B on channel 2. Then switching the channel on your receiver from channel 1 to channel 2 will toggle which transmitter you will be hearing. You can do this with as many receivers as you have channels, provided each transmitter is on a different channel and you change the channel on your receiver accordingly. You can also set multiple transmitters to one channel, and turn them all off except for the one you'd be using. This way, when you switch instruments, you'd turn off transmitter A on the first instrument, then pick up the next instrument and turn on transmitter B. Just be sure that no one else using a Line 6 wireless system is using the same channel. Q: Does USB 3.0 create interference in the 2.4GHz frequency range? A: USB 3.0 computer cables and peripherals, including hard drives, are known to emit radio frequency interference throughout the 2.4GHz band, which results in reduced range and/or performance for any 2.4GHz device in its proximity (including wireless keyboard or mouse, WiFi, etc.). We recommend placing any digital wireless receivers at least two meters away from the USB 3.0 device and its cabling. Below is a link to a study by Intel regarding this interference. http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/io/universal-serial-bus/usb3-frequency-interference-paper.html Suggested channels settings to avoid interfering with Wi-Fi. If your wifi network utilizes the channel listed, use the channel # listed under the Line 6 wireless channel column. Q: Are all Line 6 wireless transmitters and receivers interchangable? A: Yes, any Line 6 brand wireless transmitter or microphone will work with any Line 6 receiver. It does not matter if they are XD-V or Relay systems, you can mix and match receivers with transmitters and they will work as long as the transmitter and receiver correspond to the same channel. Q: Is the Relay G5/G90 transmitter compatible with the X2 receiver (or vice versa)? A: Both systems run in completely different frequency ranges, so they are not interchangeable. However, the X2 and Relay units can be used on the same stage (along with any other analog wireless systems) with no problems. Q: Where do I get a Relay G50/G90 Series Wireless System? A: The Relay G50/G90 wireless units are available at all authorized Line 6 dealers. To locate a dealer near you, please see the Line 6 Dealer Finder: Line 6 Dealer Finder Q: Where can I purchase replacement Relay G50 transmitters (TBP12) or receivers (RXS12)? A: Individual transmitters and receivers can be ordered from any Line 6 dealer. Q: What are the specs on the provided Relay G50 Series power supply? A: 9V DC, 500mA, center pin negative (2.1mm). See the following link for more power supply FAQs: Power Supply and Amp Power F.A.Q. Q: How is the Relay G90 receiver powered? A: The Relay G90 uses a standard IEC power cable. Q: Can I use a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power Plus 2 to power the Relay G50 receiver? A: Yes, but you will need to use the Voodoo lab "current doubler" cable and you will need to use outputs 5 & 6 of the Pedal Power Plus away from "normal" position. VooDoo model PPAP. Q: What type of cable do I need between my guitar & Relay TBP12 transmitter? A: The Relay G50/G90 Transmitter (TBP12) uses a TA4F to 1/4" cable. Q: What is the pin-out for wiring to a TA4F connector? A: Pin 1 - Gnd Pin 2 - V+ Pin 3 - Signal Pin 4 - Z (leave open for instrument)(short to pin 3 for mic) For a normal, everyday, run-of-the-mill, Tip/Sleeve (TS) connector for a 1/4" instrument cable end,... the signal goes from 1/4" Tip to TA4F pin-3 (Signal), and 1/4" Sleeve goes to TA4F pin-1 (Gnd). Don’t worry about pins 2 and 4, those are used for Lavaliere Mic connections. Q: How many channels does the G50/G90 have?? Do they share channels with the G30 system? A: The G50/G90 have 12 channels, which share the first 6 channels with the G30. Q: Can I use the TBP12 from a G50 to transmit to a G90 or G30 (or vice versa?) A: Yes. All 2.4gHz Line 6 transmitters work with all Line 6 2.4gHz receivers to the lowest limitation, channel count, features, etc. Q: What type of antennas work with the G50 and G90? G50: 1/4 wave antennas, BNC-type connectors; detachable. G90: 1/2 wave antennas. The antennas can be detached but RG58-50 ohm radio wire connection is required. Be sure the antennas are not inside a metal case or touching any metal and get your antennas as high as possible. Q: How long does the pair of AA batteries in the transmitter typically last? A: 8 hours on high power & 11 hours on low power. If you leave the transmitter cable plugged but turn the power off on the transmitter, there is no battery draw. Q: How does the battery meter work? A: The battery meter displays 20 minute increments. Be aware of "alkaline rebound" when turning off the unit and turning it back on, as it may look like it has more power than it really has. Q: Can I use rechargeable batteries? A: Yes, but the hours and minutes are calibrated to alkaline batteries so the power reading may be inaccurate. Some rechargables while labeled AA are not true AA size and will not work. Q: What is the difference between the main output and the tuner output? A: The only difference is the tuner output still works when the transmitter is muted. Q: What is different about the Relay G50/G90 system compared to the X2 series? A: The Relay system works on a higher frequency (2.4 Ghz) and operates on 12 channels rather than 5. Q: Can the RXR12 Receiver antennas be linked together? A: Up to 6 receivers can be daisy-chained together. The last unit in the chain should be "terminated" when linking receivers together. Q: I'm a harmonica player and would like to use the G30 with a bullet microphone (high impedance and high output). Its output peaks at approximately 3V to 4V. Will there be clipping or distortion of the output? A: No problem with either impedance or input level. The Relay transmitters (TBP06 and TBP12) will handle 6V inputs. Q: What does the red audio LED mean on the G50 receiver? A: It means the incoming signal is clipping. This will not produce an audio dropout unless the red LED is on for a few seconds. This state will not damage the receiver. Q: How do I register my Relay G50/G90 System? Line 6 Product Registration F.A.Q. Q: What do the different colors states mean on the TBP12 transmitter? Line 6 Product Registration F.A.Q. Was bedeuten die verschiedenen LED Zustände des TBP12? Blaues LED: Batterie voll. Durchgehend leuchtendes rotes LED: Batterie schwach. Blinkendes rotes LED: Batterie fast leer, bitte ersetzen. Audio LED – Grünes LED: Audio Signal vorhanden. Audio LED: Vert: Signal audio.
  2. Q: How many Rack Units does the X3 Pro take up? A: 3 Rack Units Q: What are the dimensions of the POD X3 Pro? A: The POD X3 Pro expects the master clock signal on its S/PDIF input only, so, connecting the S/PDIF IN must be connected to master clock source. Make sure you connect the S/PDIF OUT on your POD X3 Pro to the S/PDIF IN of your clock master unit and S/PDIF IN on your POD X3 Pro to S/PDIF OUT of your clock master. In the INPUTS page of the POD X3 Pro, set anything BUT Variax as Tone 1 and Tone 2 and DIGITAL set to S/PDIF. In the OUTPUTS page of the POD X3 Pro, set your S/PDIF outputs settings in the Studio Direct Mix menu, and MATCH DIG IN for RATE.
  3. ****If you recently purchased a Relay V75-SC Super Cardioid Microphone and that capsule does not have microphone models when placed on another XDV-75 handheld microphone body, then you will need to update the firmware on that handheld microphone to version 2.10. Instructions for updating Line 6 wireless systems can be found in other Knowledge Base articles.**** Range XD-V 70/75 systems are rated at 300 feet under ideal conditions and the XD-V30 systems are rated at a 100 foot range. This ‘Open Air Wireless Range’ also known as ‘Line of Sight’, meaning the transmitter’s antenna must have a clear path to the receiver’s antenna and be reasonably free of interference. For best performance ‘Line of Sight’ should be maintained between the receiver’s antennas and the transmitter’s antennas. Radio waves travel in straight lines and do not go around corners. Barriers such as walls can impede the path of radio waves depending on the thickness and the type of construction. RF will not transmit efficiently through metal barriers. If you have aluminum siding or a metal roof, it is unlikely the RF signal will transmit through this barrier with much efficiency. When using wireless systems indoors you could experience a moderate reduction in range compared to outdoors depending on conditions. RF will not transmit through the earth so if the receiver is placed in the basement, and the earth or ground is obstructing the line of sight transmission, it will not receive the direct signal. Human bodies also absorb RF energy and can affect maximum range so remember to place your antennas accordingly. Avoid cupping the bottom of the handheld mic as it will block the antenna resulting in a loss of range. Another significant reduction of range can be expected if the receiver antennas for the XD-V systems are very close to other intentional radiators in the same frequency band such as Wi-Fi wireless access points. Using the XD-V70 with remote paddle antennas and separating the antennas by several feet can be an effective way to mitigate this condition. Interference Q: What is the difference between Analog and Digital wireless systems handling of interference? A: Since the XD-V wireless system is digital, it is able to ‘intelligently’ ignore all signals that are not specifically intended for it. As a result, no audible interference can be generated due to other RF signals occurring simultaneously with the XD-V RF signals. Additionally, the XD-V system utilizes a frequency diversity system in which four different RF frequencies are transmitted for each single audio channel. Only if there are errors or loss of signal on all four RF frequencies within a single transmission packet will an XD-V system mute. Loss of RF signal can be the result of trying to function at too great a distance, having unintentional transmitters too close to a receiver (near/far), or a significant amount of close-by RF signals within the same 2.4GHz range (Wi-Fi, microwave ovens, etc.). In all cases, the symptoms will be the same: reduction of RF LEDs on the front panel that indicate usable RF signal strength, followed by the audio signal muting. Once good enough RF signal is received again, the signal will unmute. Put simply, all forms of potential interference for the XD-V system will have the net effect of reducing the total usable distance for the system. If your application does not require maximum range, then typically little concern about other radio signals is required. If you intend to use your system at a distance, it is recommended that you ‘walk test’ your system in advance of an event to verify that sufficient RF signal is available to avoid mutes from occurring over the entire desired range. Output Level Q: Why does the level change when I swap an XD-V digital wireless with my old wireless system? A: XD-V digital wireless are designed to be the same as a wired mic and are "unity" at the receiver's output relative to input to the transmitter. Most other wireless systems have gain stages that amplify the signal above the mic level itself. This means there is no relationship between the input level to the transmitter and the output level of the receiver. If the gain has been turned up on your old system then you will likely notice a drop in level when you hot-swap with an XD-V. This is a simple ‘gain-structure’ issue and is not a measure of sound quality. So if you hot-swap an XD-V wireless with the same mic as the model you have selected you will not need to make any changes to your gain structure. If you are replacing an older wireless unit that has gain added, you will need to balance the trim (gain) controls on your mixer inputs to accommodate the ‘unity mic level’ of the XD-V. This is why mixer inputs have gain adjustments ‘¦ so you can properly match mic preamp gain to the input source. Remember, XD-V digital wireless is mic level output only and must be plugged into a mic level input and not a line level input. If the trim controls are calibrated on your input strips a gain of 25-30 dB will probably be in the ballpark with an average vocalist. Frequency/Channels Q: What is different about the XD-V systems compared to the XDR-955? A: The XD-V30/XD-V70 systems use a higher frequency (2.4 GHz) and operate on 6 or 12 channels respectively, rather than 5. The XD-V channels numbers do not correspond to 802.11 Wi-Fi channels however. Q: Can the XDR-955 microphone be used with the XD-V systems? A: Both systems run in completely different frequency ranges so they are not inter-compatible, but X2 and XD-V units can be used on the same stage (along with any other analog wireless systems) with no problems. Q: Are the Relay G-series components compatible with the XD-V series components (or vice versa)? A: Because they both operate in the same 2.4 GHz frequency range, they are compatible. Q: Do the XD-V digital wireless systems share channels with the Relay systems? A: Both XD-V systems share their first 6 channels with the Relay G30. The XD-V70 shares all 12 of its channels with the Relay G50 and G90 models. A total of up to 14 systems can potentially be combined if the V70 firmware has been updated. Batteries and Power Supplies Q: Can I use rechargeable batteries? A: Yes, but the hours and minutes are calibrated to alkaline batteries. Different battery chemistries discharge at different rates, therefore the battery meter reading may be inaccurate when alkaline batteries are not used. The run time will be directly related to the current capability of the batteries. Some experimentation will be necessary to determine how they perform for you. Carbon Zinc batteries should not be used with XD-V wireless systems. Q: Why is the battery meter higher when I restart than when I shut off the transmitter? A: Line 6 2.4G wireless transmitters have a circuit that measures the actual real-time voltage of the installed batteries and transmits that data to the battery meters in the receivers. The battery meters are very accurate when they have been running continuously since new batteries were installed in the transmitter and the transmitter power has not been cycled on and off. However due to the chemical nature of Alkaline batteries, when they have been shut off, the voltage begins to ‘rebound ‘ and the voltage actually increases compared to its value at shutoff. Unfortunately it does not last long and it reverts to true self over twenty minutes or so. For this reason when you first turn on a Transmitter that has been run but allowed to rest the meter will give a high reading that quickly falls over the first few minutes and continues to fall quickly for the first few minutes. This is normal behavior for Alkaline batteries. Q: What's the battery life of XD-V digital wireless systems? A: Battery life depends on the current capacity of the batteries used. Typically AA alkaline batteries can provide about 2400 mAh and will provide about 8 hours of continuous use from two AA alkaline batteries when run on "high" power. Typically you will get 10 hours on the "low" power setting. Be aware of "alkaline rebound" when turning off the unit and turning it back on, as it may look like it has more power than it really has. Antenna Distro Q: Can the RX212 Receiver antennas be linked together? A: Up to 6 receivers can be daisy-chained together using the built-in antenna distro system. LMR-195 antenna cable is required for linking up multiple XD-V receivers. The last unit in the chain should be "terminated" (using the supplied term plugs) when linking receivers together. (Please see the Advanced User Guide). External Antennas Q: What type of antennas work with the XD-V70 receiver (RX212)? A: Line 6 offers both "omni"(P360) and "patch" (P180) directional paddle style antennas as options. http://store.line6.com/. These antennas have built-in line amps to accommodate long cable runs (up to 100' or more) depending on cable type. Antennas connect to Line 6 receivers with BNC connectors. LMR-195 cable (or better) should be used and the gain switch should be set to match the approximate loss of the cable. There are many specialty antennas made by third parties that may also be used. They must be specifically tuned for the 2.4GHz band. You must remember to take into account line loss when using passive antennas Mic Capsules for XD-V Handheld Transmitters Q: What mic capsules can be used with the XD-V handheld transmitters? A: XD-V Handheld transmitters have been designed to allow for the use of interchangeable capsules from 3rd party manufacturers such as Earthworks, Telefunken, Shure and others. However since there is no actual standard for compatibility there is some risk of unintended signal or mechanical issues. Users are advised to test specific combinations prior to purchase. Before replacing a capsule the power should be shut off. Simply screw on the desired capsule, then turn on the power. Mic modeling is bypassed (and not available) when using 3rd party capsules. Depending on the level of the capsule and the loudness of the person singing/speaking into it, the Environment filter may need to be switched ‘off’ if a gating sound occurs. Using Third Party Mics w/ Beltpacks Q: What is the pin-out for wiring to a TA4F connector? Q: What mics work with the XD-V70 Beltpack Transmitter A: Questions often come up as to what mics are compatible with the system and how to adjust the gain to match other wireless systems. Line 6 XD-V70 beltpacks (TBP12) are essentially unity level devices meaning the output voltage of receiver essentially matches the input voltage of the transmitter. So it raises the question’¦ ‘match the level to what?’. Traditional systems are essentially a mic coupled with a preamp, not just a microphone alone. This may require thinking about your system in a new way. With traditional wireless systems that have limited dynamic range, gain and level control are essential if one hopes to have reasonable hiss free operation without excessive distortion. No gain or level matching is required when using XD-V wireless systems because of the XD-V’s wide dynamic range and compander free operation. So the system gain requirement is to have the speech or vocal input to the microphone present an appropriate level into the mic preamp so that the preamp can raise the voltage to be optimum into the next stage of the mixer. Gain is likely needed somewhere in this chain, but as long as the mic preamp has enough gain available there is no problem re-adjusting the input trim to do this. Just turn it up as much as needed. Just remember to plug the output of the XD-V into a ‘mic level’ input on the mixer as it is not intended to be used into a ‘line level’ input. In order to be able to certify a mic and being compatible one would have to know the distance from the user’s mouth and the level of their singing/speech. The sensitivity of both the Line 6 HS70 and the LM4-T lav mic is -46 dB, so using a mic that is approximately the same in sensitivity will result in a similar output voltage to the factory supplied mic. If a lower sensitivity mic were used with any traditional wireless system you would need to turn up the gain in the transmitter, receiver and/or the mixer. If the levels of these three controls are not in perfect sync with each other the result will be extra distortion or extra noise/hiss. With Line 6 XD-V is greatly simplified. Simply make adjustments at the mixer (in the same way as you work with a mic with a cable). Much less complicated (although it may be different than what a user is used to) it insures maximum headroom and far less chance to get it wrong. Just turn up the mixer, that’s why the knobs move. Remember, the relative position of a knob means almost nothing. The correct place is the correct place’¦ no matter where it occurs on the rotation. Examples: Shure® WL-185â„¢ lav is -45.5 dB WL-184â„¢ lav is -44.5 dB’¦ so these mics would be almost identical to The Line 6 LM4. WH30TQâ„¢ headset is -55 dB so it will need a 10 dB boost of the mic trim control on the mixer as compared to the LM4-T to have the same level. Countryman® E6 headsets come with different sensitivities and are specified per application. The E6ow5â„¢ is for general speaking and is the closest to our LM4 levels The E6ow6â„¢ is for strong speaking and singing The E6ow7â„¢ is for ‘powerful vocals’ and will seem very quiet if used for ‘normal speech’ as compared to our LM4-T. This would likely be a poor choice for general speech but could be the proper mic for a screaming singer. Countryman also provides caps to cover and further modify the mic element which can provide additional gain. Audio Technica® AT831 lav is -46 dB AT898 lav is -46 dB * Please double-check that the Audio Technica mic is a model equipped with the TA4F connector. You may need to special order a unit with the correct connection type or refit your existing cable end with the TA4F plug. DPA® 4066 omni headset is -44 dB 4061 omni lav is -44 dB 4060 high output omni lav is ‘“ 35 dB good with very quiet talkers or if the mic is some distance from the performer. Microphone sensitivity does affect the performance of the Environment Filter. If the sensitivity of the mic used is too low there may be audible artifacts. Depending on the situation it may be advisable to switch the filter to ‘off’. Racking V70/75 Receivers Q: How do I connect multiple receivers for rack mounting? A: The XD-V 70/75 half rack sized receivers can be locked together to become a single rack width using the supplied "dovetail key". When mounting a pair of receivers side by side, start with the dovetail inserted approximately half way in the side groove. Then start the second unit, from the front towards the rear and slide until they are closely aligned. A small tap with a mallet and block will align and secure the key in place and level the front faces. Use the short rack ear supplied with each receiver to complete the pair. Multiple rack pairs can be linked together by using dovetail keys in the top and bottom slots of a rack pair. When assembling more than a single pair it is recommended that the left ‘half’ and the right ‘half’ be assembled first and then the ‘halves’ joined together into the 19’ assembly. Wi-Fi Interference Q: Why does my Wi-Fi slow down when I get my transmitter near my computer? A: Because Wi-Fi and Line 6 2.4GHz wireless products share the same frequency band-space. Some users may experience a slowing down or even interruption of their Wi-Fi capabilities when using microphone or instrument transmitters in close proximity to their computers or routers. This is an example of a near/far interference problem and it may be intensified because consumer grade Wi-Fi typically has limited RF dynamic range. Using more XD-V channels operating at the same time will create more competition to Wi-Fi than a single channel would. If your Line 6 transmitter gets within 6 feet of your laptop you may witness this situation especially if your Wi-Fi access point is some distance away. Typically, simply moving your Line 6 transmitter farther away from your computer will remedy the situation. Users of Line 6 twelve channel systems can switch their transmitters to the ‘low power’ setting as this will mitigate the problem as well. If you are using the system outside the USA you can likely switch your Wi-Fi channels to 12, 13 or 14 depending on your location. The frequencies for these channels are outside the Line 6 2.4GHz frequencies. Likewise, switching Wi-Fi to 802.11n in the 5GHz band will avoid Line 6 wireless frequencies and double your potential Wi-Fi throughput. Suggested channels settings to avoid interfering with Wi-Fi. If your WiFi network utilizes the channel listed, use the channel # listed under the Line 6 wireless channel column. Troubleshooting Q: Why am I getting dropouts? A: Assuming no hardware issues, dropouts generally occur because of local conditions. Do I have clear line of sight? The transmitter antenna should be able to ‘see’ the receiver’s antennas. Is your audience blocking the line of sight? Raising antennas to 6-8 feet high will often fix this problem. Make sure you are not being blocked by obstacles such as metal posts, walls, etc. Are your antennas connected firmly and splayed at 90 degrees? If they are straight up and down you could fall victim to a dead zone. Are other XD-Vs operating on the same channel? Each system needs its own unique channel to operate on. Do you have the receiver’s antennas near any intentional transmitters such as walkie-talkies, In-Ear Monitors, etc? They will need to be separated. The distance will depend on the strength of the transmitter and the gain of the transmitting antenna. Are you using the factory power supply? If you are using a substitute supply you must make certain it can supply the required 9vdc at 350 ma. Q: Why is the signal so weak compared to other wireless systems? A: XD-V digital wireless systems have "mic level" outputs (both XLR and 1/4" jacks) and need to be connected in the same manner as wired microphones are and with similar gain/trim settings. Plugging into a "line level" input or a channel with pads engaged will result in a weak and likely noise signal. The preferred connection is with the XLR output on the receiver to an XLR input on the mixer. The 1/4" output is unbalanced and is included as a convenience for users plugging into instrument amplifiers. It is important to NOT use TRS plugs into this jack as the "ring" is used for system upgrades and carries digital information that could be "noisy" if it were connected to an audio input. Q: Why is the sound so "thin"? A: This may be caused by the "Environment Filter" is the signal is too weak, especially when using lav mics. Try turning the filter to the "off" position. Q: What does the Near/Far spec mean? A: The Near/Far interference problem is common to all radio systems and happens when a strong RF signal in the same band uses a large portion of the available gain in a receiver making it difficult or impossible for the receiver to decode the weaker signal. Imagine having a conversation in a quiet room with a person 20 feet away from you. It is likely that you can carry on a conversation with normal voice levels. Now if you move to a noisy environment, with lots of other voices right around your ears, it may be very difficult for the conversation to continue with your long distance friend without the both of you shouting. A similar circumstance occurs with radios, and since the long distance transmitter is incapable of increasing its power output, it is very likely a very near transmitter may interrupt it. In the real world, this is rarely an unmanageable problem. You should avoid having a transmitter closer than 3 feet to a receiver that is not on your channel if the intended transmitter is more than 50 feet from this receiver. If this is a regular requirement you should install remote paddle antennas (G90, XD-V70 series). The near/far spec for XD-V70 is 50’/3’ which means if another transmitter (even though it is on a different channel) gets within 3 feet of your channels antennas at the same time you get 50 feet away the system could be affected in a negative manner.. By increasing the distance between antennas (using the paddle antennas) or simply raising the units up higher, it will become far less a possibility. LED Codes Q: What do the different LED colors mean on the XD-V system components? XD-V70 System THH12 Handheld Transmitter: No LEDs (see owner’s manual for LCD screen info) TBP12 Beltpack Transmitter LED states: Blue LED = power/>1hr battery life Solid red LED = Low Flashing red LED = Very Low/Change batteries Audio LED = Green LED (indicates audio signal) RX212 Receiver: Audio Green LEDs = audio signal present Battery Green LEDs = full battery life Red LED = less than two hours remaining Flashing red = Very Low / Change batteries RF Transmitter on same channel as receiver: Green to indicate signal strength/quality: from 5 Green = Data excellent, interference low to 1 Green meaning Data minimal, may have significant interference. When transmitter is off, or set to different channel than receiver these LEDs show as follows: No LED = No data, no interference 1 Red = No data, some potential interference up to 5 Red = No data, high potential interference. XD-V30 System THH06 Handheld Transmitter LED states: Channel LEDs - Illuminates blue to show the current active channel THH06 is transmitting on. Channel 6 LED will illuminate red when battery life is low and blink red when very low (change batteries). TBP06 Beltpack Transmitter LED states: Audio Green LED = Audio Signal Orange = On power/channel change Battery Blue LED = power/>1hr battery life Solid Red LED = Low Charge Flashing Red LED = Very Low Charge Purple: On channel change RXT06 Receiver LED states 3 Green = Data excellent 2 Green = Data OK, may have some interference 1 Green = Data minimal, may have significant interference No LED = No data, no interference 1 Red = No data, some interference 2 Red = No data, more interference 3 Red = No data, high interference Q: Does USB 3.0 create interference in the 2.4GHz frequency range? A: USB 3.0 computer cables and peripherals, including hard drives, are known to emit radio frequency interference throughout the 2.4GHz band, which results in reduced range and/or performance for any 2.4GHz device in its proximity (including wireless keyboard or mouse, WiFi, etc.). We recommend placing any digital wireless receivers at least two meters away from the USB 3.0 device and its cabling. Below is a link to a study by Intel regarding this interference. http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/io/universal-serial-bus/usb3-frequency-interference-paper.html

    Echo Farm Operation

All the Echo Farm knob controls are designed to be adjusted using a straight left-to-right or up-and-down mouse motion. Click on any knob and drag to the left or down to lower the parameter's value. Drag to the right or up to increase the value. For best results, avoid clicking and dragging a knob in a circular motion. TIP: For most knob controls, simply double-click directly on the knob itself to reset it to its default value. The Echo Farm buttons are generally configured for single-click operation. Click on a button to change the parameter to its opposite state, and click again to change it back. The exception is the Note button; click and hold on the Note button for a pop-up selection and choose the desired note division value. Additional model-specific details follow on the next few pages. 1. Echo Model Menu This is where you select the echo model you would like Echo Farm to use. 2. Echo Model Info Button (the question mark button) - Click for additional details and to get a peek at the inspiration for the currently selected model. 3. Delay Time Knob and Display Use to set the delay time, or simply click on the display and type in a numerical value (displayed in milliseconds). 4. BPM Tempo Display In addition to the Delay Time controls, you can alternatively set the delay time by entering the tempo (Beats Per Minute) of your tune. Or, click the little lock icon to the left of the Tempo title to sync to the session timeline tempo. Never worry again about your delay repeats falling out of sync! 6 NOTE: The BPM Display becomes grayed out and inactive when you enter a delay time using the Delay Time knob. Type in a delay time value in the millisecond box or tap in the desired delay time with the Tap button. Use the Pro Tools Plug-In Automation options if you need to set Echo Farm to change tempos to follow your music while using this Delay Time mode. 5. Note Value Buttons Here you can select a note value to set the delay time. Simply use the BPM Tempo display (or the Tap button) to enter the tempo of your song, then select a note division value from the Note button menu (click and hold on the Note button to pop-up this menu). The buttons to the right of the note value allow you to modify your selection to become a triplet or dotted value. 6. Tap Button You can click on this button a few times to set your delay time. The BPM display will then be grayed out to let you know that your delay time no longer matches whatever BPM tempo you may have chosen. 7. Time Ramp Button This button lets you choose what is heard when you make changes to the Echo Farm delay time. With a realworld tape echo, speed changes are made by moving a tape head's position or varying the speed of a tape transport motor. As a result, time changes are smooth, with an audible "pitch-schmearing" effect (yes, this is a highly technical expression) which is part of a great tape delay's magic. That's the experience you'll get with this button on. If you want to immediately switch from one delay time to another, without any audible pitch-schmearing effect, click this button off. This is a handy control to use with the Pro Tools Plug-In Automation functions, allowing you to mix and match time ramping and immediate time changes within your session. 8. Pro Tools Plug-in Controls These top panel options are provided by the Pro Tools host application for effects plug-ins, offering preset selection, bypass, automation options and more. Please refer to your Pro Tools documentation for details. 9. Model-Specific Knobs The controls that appear within this row for each particular echo model are designed to emulate the functionality of the similarly-labeled knobs, switches, and jacks on the original units we modeled. For each model, two model-specific parameters (typically the two left knobs) are mapped to the Control 1 and Control 2 items in the Pro Tools Plug-In Automation dialog. Within the on-screen display graphics, Control 1 is always the left extra function for that model, and Control 2 is the right one. For example, in the Maestro EP-3 model, the Bass and Treble knobs correspond to Control 1 and Control 2, respectively. The following table summarizes the Control 1 & Control 2 assignments for all models: All information is taken from the Echo Farm 3.0 manual located here: http://line6.com/data/6/0a020a3de280588aa57190e8e/application/pdf/Echo%20Farm%203.0%20Pilot's%20Guide%20%20-%20English%20.pdf
  6. I am new to using podHD500x and JT variax, I believe there's a way to assign footswitches to change guitar model and tone or even tuning to a POD HD500x footswitches but i don't know how to do it, would be nice if someone can share the "how to" step by step or perhaps a link to a particular video tutorial on how to achieve this. Thank you and look forward to any response from you.

    Firmware Update

I received my helix last week and the current FW is 1.04.3 My question is how do I load the 1.06.5 bundle on the machine. Do I need special software, do I have to set the Helix up to receive transfer of software, Thanks rhouse.iag@gmail.com
  8. As long as firmware updates involve doing global resets (9&10 footswitch reboot) which also clears out the IRs I have found I am presented with a bit of a problem. I export all my IRs at one time in a mass export before a firmware update to a fresh directory with nothing else in it, but when I use the Helix App and return to that directory to import them, they are stored in alphabetical order in the save directory in Windows. This means that when you go to do a mass import to reload them into the Helix after a global reset they appear by default in the import window in alphabetical order. This probably is not the order the IRs were loaded on your Helix. If you import them this way (alphabetical order) they will probably no longer correspond to the IRs you set up in your presets. This means your custom presets come up with the wrong IR loaded. The way to deal with this is when you open the IR import browse window in the Helix App, sort the IRs on date. Then select them all. This will allow you to import them all at one time in the same order you exported them (even though Windows may not display the time in milliseconds in the browse window, each successive IR saved in a mass export actually has a slightly later timestamp and Windows can sort on it). Perhaps other folks have a better solution but this one is working well for me. It would be great to have an "Export Setlist" in the IR section of the Helix App so this workaround wasn't necessary. However this method seems to work pretty well when you are dealing with a lot of IRs and don't want to have to re-import them one by one, and you also want them to go back into the same IR "slot"/position on the Helix that you exported from. Note: If the Helix app import browse window is not showing "Date" as one of the columns (this is the column you need to sort on), you can do the following. Right click on the directory with your IRs, choose "Properties", select the "Customize" tab, and then select "Documents" in the "Optimize this folder for" pulldown menu. This is the process for Windows 10, it should be similar in earlier Windows versions or even on the Mac.
  9. So I had it all set up to get a new rig and yesterday my car decided to lollipop out on me and I had to pay a huge bill to get it repaired. I now only have a 2x12 cab and my HD500 and I've been reading around and found I can get a power amp to get a good signal from my HD500 to my cab, but mostly I see XLS1000 or so which put out 1000w of power so how is it that people can use this without blowing there speakers? Do they just crank the HD500 master and just leave the power amp at maybe 2? And if we're having a loud practice or playing shows how could I turn it up without blowing anything? I'm really looking for as much info as possible on this because now my dream rig is out of my reach and this is the only other thing I can do with having a brand new 2x12 sitting around collecting dust. I've been looking at an XLS, QSC, and my buddy at GC was looking around at his used stuff and saw an Altec Lansing 1210 and said it maybe awesome to try and only cost $60. Thanks for looking!
  10. do i just use a usb midi cable because i want to use pod farm with the downloadable plugins guitar > pod 2 > usb midi > pc > pod farm is that how it works or do i need something else
  11. Hi Newbie here Just got there Amplifi 75 yesterday and maybe I've missed it but how do I create a tone from scratch using the iOS App? I can see that I can modify a tone and rename but how do I create one from fresh? Regards Shakey
  12. I'm trying to record vocals but it doesn't seem to be working. I plugged my microphone into the pod mic input then turned on the phantom power to power my condenser microphone and then went on a new tone with nothing on it. my pod unbalanced outputs are plugged into my speakers (like normal) and the pod is connected to my daw by usb but when i arm the track it picks up no audio at all but the little green signal light on the pod is flashing when i talk into the mic haha someone please help me! thanks
  13. Hi everyone, I was wondering how to use my UX1 for live use. The UX1 has 2 analog outputs (left, right) so my queston is: Is correct to exit from an output (for example the left), enter in a DI Box and go straight to the PA System? Or, can I take a 1/4" jack--XLR cable like this (http://www.maffuccirosanna.com/images/cavi/CABL64-wf0.jpg) and go into the stage box?
  14. Français Deutsch One of the benefits of the StageScape M20d mixer is its ability to make high quality digital recordings direct to SD cards (class 10) or USB hard drives (with their own power source) without the need to drag a computer along. You can select up to 18 channels to record pristine 24 bit/48 kHz digital recordings on individual tracks and then transfer them to your DAW or computer as .wav files. Note: Aux inputs 17-18 are not recordable. Channels 1-16: M20d Mic/Line Inputs 1-16, pre-processing / pre fader Channels 19-20: M20d stereo Main Outs, post-processing / post-fader Two channels can stream from your computer to the M20d, coming in at ch. 17/ 18 Aux Input. Recording to SD cards (Class 10) is an elegant and convenient way to record at your gig without having to connect up any wiring (USB and power connection) or use up any additional tabletop space. Streaming USB audio to your DAW with the StageScape M20d: To stream USB audio to your digital audio workstation with the StageScape M20d you will need to download the M20d StageScape drivers from this link. http://line6.com/software/index.html On that page you will find 3 drop down menus. On the All Products drop down menu select M20d StageScape. On the All Software drop down menu select Drivers. On the last drop down menu select the operating system of the computer you wish to use with your M20d StageScape. Once the download has completed, find and run the M20d StageScape Drivers Installer. And follow the on screen installer directions. In your DAW you will need to change your audio interface to the ASIO M20d StageScape. Then create new audio tracks in your DAW with inputs that correspond to the inputs on the M20d. Note: If you are using the StageScape DX/MME driver, make sure that StageScape is selected as the default audio device in Windows.? Also, know that you will only get audio from inputs 1-2 if you are recording with DX/MME. The Windows StageScape M20d USB 2.0 audio driver uses WDM and ASIO, supported on 32 and 64 bit OS configurations. The driver streams 18 inputs to your computer and a stereo return stream back to the M20d. On Mac computers, the driver is a core audio driver. Input Streaming Configuration: Channels 1-16: M20d Mic/Line Inputs 1-16, pre-processing / pre fader Channels 19-20: M20d stereo Main Outs, post-processing / post-fader USB Stereo Return Stream: The stereo return is streamed to the M20d's stereo Aux Input (channels 17/18). In order to hear the stereo return, a Stage Icon Preset must be assigned to the Aux Input using the M20d touchscreen UI. The 'Laptop' preset is ideally suited for this purpose, and can be found in the Stage Icon Gallery. Note · If you have problems recording/reading files from your SD card or USB they most likely previously recorded on the media device and then transferred the files to their computer. Then if you deleted the files from the media device by way of their computer, there is a possibility that the media device may have this problem reading/recording once inserted back in to the M20d. Because of this we recommended that customers delete files that were recorded on the media device with the M20d in the M20d. That delete function should always be done in the M20d in order to not experience this. 15. Français Deutsch ** Known Issue: Phantom Power on Inputs 7-12 does not save to scenes or setups. This has been fixed with firmware update version 1.10. ** ****Please be aware that if you are updating from firmware 1.00 directly to 1.20, the update file will state that you are installing version 1.32. This is a typo that will be fixed in the future and it will have no affect on your firmware 1.20 installation or functionality.**** Q: I am unable to connect my iPad to my StageScape with an Apple Airport Express. What gives? A: Be sure to check to that the light on the front of your Airport Express is solid green and NOT blinking amber. If the light on your Airport Express is blinking amber, you probably have to run the Airport Utility to setup and configure your Airport Express. On windows you will have to download this Airport Utility program and install it from the apple downloads page, but if you have a Mac computer, the Airport Utility will already be on your computer in Applications>Utilities>Airport Utility.? Go through the steps to setup your Airport Express in that utility program. Don't worry if the utility prompts you to create a password for your Airport Express, that will only be applicable for creating a network connected to the internet, and will not apply for connection between your iPad and StageScape. Q: When I update the firmware on my StageScape M20d, the mixer still thinks it has the old firmware? A: When updating your firmware on the StageScape M20d, be sure to only have the media drive with the firmware update on it connected to your StageScape. No other media devices should be connected to your mixer. Q: I updated the firmware on my StageScape M20d, and now the StageScape App won't work? A: The firmware on your StageScape M20d and the StageScape App must be the same version. So if you updated the firmware on your mixer, be sure to download the updated App from the Apple App store. Q: Can Setups that were backed up on Firmware 1.10 be opened on mixers that have Firmware 1.00? A: Yes, backed up setups can be restored on older firmware versions of the mixer, however any setups with stereo monitors may cause an error. In this case, re-save the setup without stereo monitors on your firmware version 1.10 and then it will open correctly in older firmware. Q: Is there a maximum length to L6 Link Connections? A: Yes, all L6 Link connections require AES/EBU cables with a maximum 50 foot length. Connecting multiple AES/EBU cables together is not recommended or supported. Q: What is the difference between a Scene and a Setup? A: Scenes are saved as parts of Setups - and if you move to a second setup without saving your current setup, the scenes you made on your first setup may be lost if you do not save the setup prior to navigating to a new setup. It is helpful to think of scenes and setups as... If you are doing a show with 3 performing acts doing 5 songs each. Each performing act should have their own setup with a scene created for each song by that performing act. Following that thought process - you will have 3 setups and each of those 3 setups will contain 5 scenes. The stage pans, effects, levels, and TWEAK settings are saved in your SCENE- but input channels, icons, and channel trims are saved in your SETUP Q: For how long can the StageScape M20d record at a time? Inputs & Main Mix Inputs only Main Mix only Recording times are listed in minutes:seconds. *248:36 is the M20d’s maximum recording time. 2 GB is the maximum file size. Q: Is it possible to control two StageScape M20d's simultaneously (or switch between them) in the iPad app? A: It will be possible for a single iPad to switch between two StageScapes for control, however it is not possible to control both simultaneously. The user can select one StageScape to control at a time by selecting from a list of WiFi StageScapes that the iPad can communicate with. Q: How do I make a monitor send? A: First connect a powered monitor to a monitor output on the M20d. A monitor will appear on the stage labeled A, B, C, or D, depending on which monitor input you plugged into. An encoder will turn blue signifying that it controls the level of a monitor. Use that encoder to adjust the monitor gain up to the white notch on the monitor signal. Then, go to the monitor page of the M20d. Once on the monitor page the encoders of all active channels will turn blue. Adjust the levels of the active channels you want sent to that monitor accordingly. Q: How do I make an effects send? A: Effects sends - usually reserved for time based effects (Reverbs, Delays, Chorus, Flange and Vocal Doubler) - are found in Global FX. Go to the Tweak page, select your channel from the top left, and select Global FX. Select the Global Effect that you would like to utilize, and select the output you would like to send that effect to from the list on the left. An encoder will turn purple once you select the global effect you want. Use this purple encoder to adjust the level of your global effect. Q: Will global effects apply effects to my entire mix? A: No, global effects are global because any channel can send signal to global effects individually. Global effects take the place of your "aux buses" on other mixers - where you would usually have your time based effects such as reverb and delay. Further explanation can be found in the question above, or in the Advanced Manual. Q: Why doesn't mute all mute my headphones? A: The Mute All button mutes all signals that are sent to mains and monitors, allowing the user to make adjustments in headphones without signal being sent to outputs. The Mute All button can also be used as a Mute group to mute 1 specific group of channels. Q: How can I manually add inserts? A: At this time inserts are not manually added or managed, because inserts are part of DSP presets available from the tweak page. Insert presets can be saved and loaded for future use. Loading insert presets from other instruments will change the icon of that channel on the stage. For example, if you have a Male Vocal channel and try to load the Bongos preset in the Tweak menu, this will change the stage icon of that channel to Bongos. You can change the on stage picture of your inputs to pictures of other instruments inside of your StageScape. Q: Where can I mute and solo my channels? A: Channel mutes and solos are available on the performance mode screen. To toggle between solo or mute, select the Show Solo Buttons at the top of the performance page. Q: When using L6 Link why is there not a monitor stage icon on screen? A: When using L6 Link, you will need to manually create a monitor stage icon. Monitors are only automatically created on the stage when an XLR is plugged into an analog Monitor output. Q: How do I group my channels? A: In setup mode, double click the encoder of an empty channel to bring up the group assign menu. From there, select the channels that you would like to be part of the group. You can group all of your global effects returns to 1 group, or any other channels. Q: Can I change the channel colors to better organize input types? A: No, channel colors are set and not changeable. Q: Do I have to be in perform mode to perform? A: Perform is the mode where you set your mix and can manage your scenes, so it is better tailored for performance management. Although the outputs will remain fully active in each of the other mixer modes. Q: What is the difference between level and trim? A: Trim is your input gain into the M20d, while level is your channel volume within the mix. This can also be described on other boards as: Trim is your pre-amp. Level is your channel fader. Q: How could I connect an external signal processor to the M20d? A: Use a monitor output to feed the processor, connect the output of the processor to a balanced line input 13-16 or an open input 1-12 if all balanced line inputs are taken. Q: Does the M20d include a HI-Z instrument input? A: Each of the 12 available combi inputs can accept either 1/4" instrument cables or XLR cables. Q: What is FBS? A: FBS stands for FeedBack Suppression and it is the built in feedback suppression on the M20d. There are 2 options for FBS, vocal and universal. If the channel is not a vocal channel, it is not recommended to use the vocal feedback suppression setting. DSP presets for direct inputs will not have feedback suppression. For example, acoustic guitar direct will NOT have feedback suppression, but acoustic guitar mic'd will have feedback suppression. Q: Can the quick capture record more than 20 seconds? A: Yes, but recording for more than 20 seconds requires a USB hard drive (with its own external power supply), SD card, or computer to be connected to the M20d. It is recommended to record to SD card rather than USB, because SD cards have a better data transfer rate. Q: How do I use WiFi on the M20d? A: WiFi on the M20d requires a supported USB WiFi adapter, but we recommend using an Apple Airport Express or wifi router in conjunction with an Apple USB/Ethernet adapter. More information on supported USB WiFi products can be found at this link: WiFi USB Adapter & SD card Compatibility and Connectivity Q: How do I delete a track? A: While in Setup mode, select the stage icon for the track you would like to delete, and tap the red trash can located in the upper right corner of the screen to delete a track. Q: Where can I control pan? A: In Setup or Perform mode, pan settings can be controlled by tapping the encoder menu located at the top left of the screen. Then select pan from the drop down menu. In Tweak mode, you can adjust pan individually for each channel from the orange encoder. The pan setting is displayed in the bottom left of the channel Tweak menu. Q: Can I put a limiter on my main outputs? A: In Tweak mode, tap the channel select on the top left of the screen, select Output Channels, and Main Out. Then, select Deep Tweak from the top center of the screen. There you will find a HiPass filter, 4 band compressor, 6 band EQ, 4 band limiter, and L6 Link graphic equalizer for your outputs. The L6 Link graphic EQ is only available when using L6 Link. Q: Is there a graphic equalizer for my mix? A: A graphic equalizer is available on board the M20d when using L6 link. It can be found in Tweak mode under Deep Tweak and L6 Link EQ. Graphic equalizers can be placed on all outputs, but will only be active when using L6 Link. Q: How do I change the name of a channel? A: In Setup mode select an input on your stage. Once a channel is selected, in the top right of the screen, you can tap on the computer keyboard icon to change the name. Or - still in the top right of the screen - you can tap on the small picture of the input you have selected, and from there change the icon of that input or change the name of that input. Q: Why does my stage icon channel number flash yellow? A: Because you created stage a icon without an input connected, therefor the yellow indicator is a place holder for the channels designated. Q: Can I reassign an input once I have created the stage icon? A: Yes, in Setup mode, tap the I/O section at the top center of the screen, then tap the input you would to move, and then double tap the input you would like to assign it to. Q: Can I sync 2 M20d's into a system that will still output to a stereo main mix? A: No, you can not sync 2 M20d's. If you have 2 M20d's and require more than 16 inputs, it is recommended to use 1 M20d as a submixer with main outputs going into 2 inputs on the other M20d. In that case, the M20d being plugged into should be used as your main output to the speakers. StageScape M20d: F.A.Q.

  18. Français. Deutsch. What instruments and pickups can I plug into my Relay transmitter? Relay digital wireless systems basically just replace your instrument cable so basically you can plug anything into the transmitter that you could have plugged into your amp (as long as you don't exceed an input level of 6V p-p at the input). Examples: Instrument with piezo pickup - If you are currently happy with the sound you get from plugging from your instrument into your amp, then your rig will work just fine substituting Relay for your cable. The input of the Relay transmitter has a very high input impedance (1.3 Mohm) so as not to load down your instrument. This is equal to or even higher than most preamps specifically intended for piezo pickups. Stereo pickups with Y-Cord - Could also be standard pickups combined with a bridge saddle pickup. Again, if you are happy with the sound you get using this configuration then Relay will not get in the way of your sound. Or you could run each pickup to it's own individual Relay system which could then be split into stereo. Active instruments w/ preamps - If your instrument has an active preamp and is powered with a single 9v battery you will have no problems using Relay. If you have a double 9v preamp it is theoritically possible to clip the input of the transmitter but unlikely in the real world. Should this actually happen you can remedy it by backing off a bit on the master volume control, adding a pad to the cable or removing one of the batteries. The extra headroom offered by these systems is only a benefit if it fits in with the system gain structure (unless you are using it to purposly clip the input of your amp). Remember, unused headroom is wasted. Where should I plug Relay into my chain? Relay replaces the cable from your instrument to wherever the other end of that cable was plugged into. Plug your instrument into the transmitter and plug the output from the receiver into wherever that cable was before. Generally speaking, you are un-tethering yourself from the first piece in your chain. You don't have to worry about gain or level matching as Relay is a "unity" device. That means you get the same level (voltage) at the output jack of the receiver as you are getting from the output of your instrument. Nothing changes ... Relay's output level is neither louder nor softer than the original. The output from the "tuner" out is exactly the same as the main output in level and impedance. Only difference is the pressing the "mute" button on a G50/90 transmitter shuts off the main out but leaves the tuner output active. The XLR and 1/4" outputs on the G90 are also identical and are provided to give the user more versitility in connecting to other gear. What IS different? Depending on how you've set the cable modeling, you could be sending a lot more "highs" into your system than ever before. This could result in more apparent noise or hiss. It would be the same as if you had connected your instrument into your system with a 1-foot cable (which is pretty difficult to do unless you are a contortionist guitarist!). Adjusting to the proper cable model should remedy this situation. On the other hand, if you are using an acoustic guitar leaving the model off will sound like the freshest set of strings you've ever played. Was ist anders?
  19. When using a James Tyler Variax Guitar with a PODxt Live, POD X3 Live, or X3 Pro, the POD presets will not recall Variax models as originally saved with a Variax 300, 500, 600, or 700 electric guitars.? You would need to re-save your presets with the desired model with the James Tyler Variax plugged in. When attempting to set the Variax model with a JTV guitar using a POD X3 Live/Pro and GearBox 3.72 software, you will experience a condition where the "Don't Force Model" message appears and will not allow for you to save Variax Model associations to your X3 Live/Pro patch. The current workaround is to save JTV model associations manually (without GearBox open) after you've performed any GearBox-related patch edits/organization. This behavior does not exist with POD HD500 via HD500 Edit; only with the older X3 Live/Pro (GearBox) editing scheme. We apologize for the inconvenience to JTV and X3 Live/Pro owners wishing to use the software editing aspect for Variax model-X3Live/Pro patch associations at this time. 20. Deutsch Français For information on using the Workbench softwre, you can also check out the Variax Workbench User's Guide. Q: What is the Variax Workbench software? A: Variax Workbench software is an Editor/Librarian for the Variax 300/500/600/700 and James Tyler Variax Electric guitars, as well as the Variax 700 Acoustic guitar. This program can be used to edit and manage the guitar models in your Variax guitar. ***Please note, that the ALT TUNING knob presets of the James Tyler Variax guitars are NOT accessible through the current version of the Variax Workbench software (v1.73 as of this writing). Q: Can I use the Variax Workbench software to edit my Variax 300 acoustic or Variax 700/705 Bass instrument? A: No, the Variax 300 acoustic guitars do not have a Variax Digital Interface (VDI) jack, and the Variax 700/705 Bass instruments are not supported for Variax Workbench. Q: What Line 6 interface will I need to connect my compatible Variax instrument to my computer to use Variax Workbench? A: You will need one of the following devices to connect your compatible Variax instrument to your computer: PODxt Live, POD X3 Live/Pro, POD HD500, POD HD Pro,Vetta I (equipped with the VDI interface), Vetta II, or the Workbench USB Interface. Q: Can I use the Workbench software on a 64 bit operating system? A: Yes all of our software drivers are compatible on 64-bit operating systems. Q: Do I need to use the XPS box to power my guitar when using the Workbench interface or does the Workbench interface power my Variax? A: The Variax still requires power from the XPS footswitch when using the Workbench interface to connect to your computer. However, you will not need the XPS box if you are using a PODxt Live, X3 series, POD HD500, or Vetta series unit to interface with your computer. Q: Why can't I hear audio though my computer while I have my Variax plugged in through the Workbench device? A: The Workbench USB device is not an audio interface, but merely a USB interface to allow your Variax to talk to your computer. In order to hear your Variax, you will need to have it connected to an amp or other monitoring system. Q: With the Workbench package, will I be able to download new sounds into my Variax guitar? For instance, can I get the nylon string sound from your Variax acoustic into my Variax 300/500/700 or vice versa? A: The Workbench software only allows you to edit what is already in the guitar, thereby creating custom guitars internally. You will not be able to install new guitar models into your Variax. Q: What is the maximum I can pitch shift the sympathetic (12 string) strings in Workbench? A: On the 12 string models, you can pitch shift the sympathetic strings by one octave in either direction. Please note- when using the 'detune' option for the sympathetic strings, if you raise the tuning by the full octave you cannot detune the strings any higher than a full octave. Q: Does the Workbench package come with the Digital Variax cable included, or would I have to purchase that separately? A: The Workbench package comes with a 10 foot Digital Variax cable included. This cable is not designed for live use as the longer Variax digital cable is, since it only has the reinforced, hooded connection on one end, rather than both. The 25' version is available separately either through our online store or through any Line 6 dealer. Line 6 Store Q: I've changed one of my models to an alternate tuning and when I switch away from it and back, I get the old model for a few seconds before my new one kicks in. What's going on? A: Until you save your edited model, it has to load into the edit buffer from the swap buffer when you first access the switch. Since it's not yet stored in the guitar, it can take a moment. Take a sip of coffee, and you're golden. Q: I have the same model in two different banks. If I try and drag them both to the File Browser it works, but if I try one at a time, it asks me if I want to overwrite the patch? A: If you drag two models with the same name from the Device Browser to the File Browser at the same time, one of them will get a number added to the end to differentiate it from the other patch (actually this will work with more than two models as well). If you try and drag them over one at a time, Workbench can't tell that they're not the same model (since a drag to the File Browser doesn't carry memory location information along with it), so will assume that you're trying to replace an existing model with an edited version of the same model. The solution? Use unique model names. Q: I just saved a model that I edited from a bundle (or collection) back to that bundle and I'm still getting prompted to save when I close the editor? A: If you closed the bundle (or collection), you severed the tie between that bundle and the edited model. Workbench no longer knows what bundle it came from, only that it has an edited model in memory. If you're absolutely positive you saved it already, just click on "Don't Save". If you have any doubt, click on Save, and it will just save it as a single model in your default Workbench directory. Q: I can't see the bottom of the Editor or Tone Locker windows? A: Workbench needs a screen resolution of 1024x768. While you can flip between two sizes in the Tone Locker (that's what the little triangle in the lower right-hand corner is for), the Editor Window is a fixed size and will go off the bottom of the screen at lower resolutions. For just a little extra room, you can use the Autohide task bar feature on Windows (right-click in the unused portion of the task bar and select Properties) or hiding the Dock on a Mac OS X. Q: Can I adjust individual string volumes? A: Yes. When you open the Editor screen in the Workbench Software, under the "Editor" menu, you'll see a choice for "String Volume Setup" at the bottom of the menu. This brings up a group of 6 sliders to set the balance between strings. Remember that these are global settings (not per patch), so that changing the balance will affect all of your different models. Select "OK" once you have changed the strings to the desired levels. As a side note, it's normal for many guitars to have volumes that differ from string to string. One example of this would be guitars with combination of a fairly small fretboard radius and pickups with non-staggered pole pieces. It can also happen with guitars that have peaks in body resonance at or near the fundamental or one of the lower harmonics of a specific note. Q: What is the "Live" & "Studio" switch in Workbench for when using a Variax Acoustic 700? A: The live mode removes the room reflections from the guitar output. Q: I am getting strange text characters in my title? A: On the Macintosh, Option-1 and Option 2 are keystrokes for special characters. Since this functionality is built into the font designs, we can't turn it off. This will only happen if you have an insert point selected in one of the text fields, though, so you can easily work around it by clicking one of the the body, pickup or tone control select drop-downs (depending on which tab of Workbench you're using) to remove the insert point from the text field. Drag and drop may be a little bit different than what you're used to, as Java (the programming language in which Workbench is written) uses its own protocols for this. We'll try and spell out the differences here. 1. When in the Device Browser window of the Tone Locker, dragging one model to a different location will swap the two (ex. dragging Spank 1 over Spank 3 will swap their positions on the 5-way switch. Dragging Lester 2 over Special 4 will swap their positions on the Select knob and on the 5 way switch). 2. If you don't drop a model directly on top of another model in the Device Browser, but between two models instead, it will insert itself between the two, and slide everything else down one. when this happens all of the 'slid' models will show as editied (have the yellow exclamation mark next to them). If you really want this arrangement, be sure to performa a Sync and choose the "Write Selected Models..." option or your changes can get lost in the shuffle (sorry, couldn't resist the pun). Note: this only works in a bank. You can't insert a model from a different bank, although you can use the swap feature to move a model from one bank to another. 3. Dragging multiple selections from the Device Browser to a collection or bundle in the File Browser will behave differently depending on how the models were selected. A "shift-click" selection process will drop the models in the order in which they are in Memory. "Ctrl-click" (or "Command-click" on the Mac) to make a multiple discontinuous selection will drop them in the order in which they were selected. For example, if you Ctrl (or Command)-clicked on Spank 1, Spank 3, Lester 4, Reso 3, and then came back and selected Lester 2, they would copy to the collection or bundle in that exact order and not the order in which they appear in the Device Browser. 4. Dropping a model from a bank onto that bank name will place that model at the last (5) switch position and move everything above it up one. Q: Will the Variax Workbench graphics change with left-handed Variax? A: The strings appear on-screen the same as for a right handed guitar, the graphics will not be reversed. In other words, the high E string on the physical guitar will correspond to the high E string on-screen. Q: What are all the terms I hear about using Line 6 Workbench? A: To help you through the navigation of Variax and Workbench, please see the following short glossary. Bundle: A saved dump of the entire memory contents of a Variax. This includes all models as well as the bank and switch combination at which they're stored. Collection: A saved group of models. Collections can be of any size and contain internal folders for organization. Models stored in Collections do not include switch/bank information. Q: What's the difference between a bundle and a collection? A bundle is always a dump of the complete user memory contents of a Variax. This includes which memory (or switch if you want to think of it in more traditional guitar terms) position is used for each model. It will always have exactly 12 banks of 5 models each for a total of 60 models. If you wanted to quickly clone your Variax into a friend's, you'd use the Get Bundle button on your guitar, then hook up your friend' guitar and use the Send Bundle button to create a duplicate of your guitar. A collection is just exactly that - a collection of models all stored together. It could be a single model (although that would be a little silly), two models, or thousands of models. Inside a collection, tones can be arranged in folders, so you could put all of your models that use alternate tunings in one folder, or all the different variations on the T-Model body that you created into a single folder. A collection can have as many different folders as you'd like (although you can't nest folders or put a folder inside another folder in a collection). This is a great way to categorize a lot of models if you were, for instance, going to email them to a friend halfway around the world. Edit Buffer: The area in the Variax memory where a model is loaded when you select it from the guitar or double click on it in either one of the browsers. When you're editing a model in Workbench, you're working on a copy of what's stored in the guitar. This means that if you decide that you don't like what you've done, you can back out gracefully without having overwritten what's stored in the guitar. It also means that if you like what you've done, you need to remember to save it. Edit Window: Where the magic happens. In this window, you select body, pickup, tone/volume control, and tuning to build an individual Variax model. The Edit window has three tabs (Body, Pickup, Controls), a tuning section at the bottom, and a graphic representation of the guitar where you can do things like grab one of the pickups, slide it around, or rotate it. File Browser: The left panel of the Tone Locker window. This displays all the models, collections, and bundles that you have stored in your Workbench directory (or whatever directory you've navigated to). Device Browser: The right panel of the Tone Locker window. This displays the current memory contents of your Variax, including any models you may have edited and not yet saved (See the entry for "Sync") Model: A particular combination of body, pickups, tone controls, and (possibly) tuning. Swap Buffer: This loads the model in the guitar that you started from when editing. It's there so you can A/B between what you started with and what you've got. A good way to tell if you're on the right track, or if you need to start over. By the way, when you save a model, it's the currently displayed model is saved, so make sure you're looking at the right one before you hit that Save button. Sync: This button allows you to make sure that what the Device Browser shows and what's in the memory of your Variax are the same. It also gives you the option to go back to your saved user models.. Tone Locker: This window contains both browsers (File and Device) and is where you go to to file management, model organization, and shuffle models around in memory. Troubleshooting Q: I am experiencing MIDI timeouts and/or connection error when I launch Workbench. How can I resolve this? 1) Close Line 6 Monkey prior to opening Line 6 Workbench. 2) Reinstall the latest Line 6 Monkey, device drivers, and Workbench program from the Line 6 website. See the following links for more information: Line 6 Monkey Installation and F.A.Q. Windows: USB Device Driver Installation Mac: USB Device Driver Installation Line 6 Software 3) Remove all non-essential USB devices from your computer, and connect your Line 6 interface device directly to the back of the computer. If you are using a laptop, try multiple USB ports to see if a different port has a better USB connection. 4) Try a different Variax and USB cable, as well as a different Line 6 device to see if there is a hardware problem with the amplifier. Q: I am receiving a "Java Error" when I try to launch Workbench? A: Please see the following link for more information on resolving the Java situation: Java Errors with Line 6 Edit and Workbench v1.72 Release Notes/Known Issues What’s New? This build contains a fix for a Java compatibility which had the potential to affect some OS/hardware configurations Known Issues: • Using the X3 hardware to change models can cause the software and hardware to get out of sync. Please use either Variax Workbench software or the Variax itself for model and parameter selection. • Disconnecting USB when launching or running Workbench can cause the program to hang, or cause trouble quitting the program. Please quit Workbench before disconnecting the USB cable. • Hot swapping Variax guitars when Workbench is running may cause loss of communication. Please quit Workbench, then swap guitars, then re-launch the program. • Operating the X3 Live while launching Workbench (changing presets, turning the Select knob, etc.) can cause a MIDI timeout error. Please allow Workbench to completely launch before editing the POD X3 Live. Solution: Utilisez des noms uniques. Zusätzliche Informationen und Download: Line 6 Monkey Installation and F.A.Q.
