  1. My current setup (which I use for shows at mid to large sized venues) is pod go with an epiphone thunderbird and a headrush frfr112 but it sounds much better when I plug my bass directly to the speaker. I have created a bass rig and it sounds great but still not as good as the direct input from my bass. Am I missing something related to the global eq or some other settings because I never faced these problems as a lead guitarist but recently I’ve made the switch and I’m kind of convinced that the pod go is just not meant for the bass. Any suggestions appreciated
  2. Looking for a bit of direction please. We have a small gig coming up that will be my first with my PodGo and my HeadRush 112. I assumed that I would simply run PodGo "out" with cab emulation to the PA, and then PodGo "amp out" with cab emulation to my FRFR(headrest 112) for monitoring/stage sound. I read an article that suggested I should turn off cab emulation for my FRFR. This doesn't make any sense to me as, I would think I want all of the PodGo tone to be heard on stage. I appreciate any insights and tips others may have on this. Thanks.
  3. Hi fam, I'm quite a noob with all this gear, I never really had the money for them but since working a full time job I've been able to buy myself a Helix LT and now I have an RC 505 (only 3 days ago). I need help though. I want to use my Helix LT as my main Audio Interface, but I would like to connect my RC 505 and my Shure sm58 for my vocals either via return 1 of my LT or the mic input for the RC505. I use Reaper as my main DAW for when I stream (I just started twitch streaming a few months ago and am really enjoying the community there while I practice my songs). My current Setup: Guitar into LT, LT to RC 505 via jack. Mic into RC505. RC 505 being used as USB interface into PC/DAW. What I dont like about it: I have my own presets that I really like on my LT for both my mic and guitar. So having my voice in the RC 505, although sounds good, not as good as i want it for my ears. There is also this annoying thing where I can't figure out how to turn off the monitoring sound and only listen to the playback (so I am consistenly hearing dual tones). I've played around with USB in and USB out levels, but both completely take away the sound that goes into my DAW). My Thinking for Next setup LT as interface into PC/DAW. Use Return 1 for Mic in first chain. Guitar Input on second chain. RC 505 connected via Midi to LT. Now I'm not sure if this will work properly, I know I can then control the RC505 with a footswitch if I go this route but what about the sound? Would I also need to connect the LT and RC505 via jack (LT jack output into RC 5050 jack inputs) on top of the MIDI cables? Would I then still be able to control the Track effects of the RC505 for transitions etc? Any advice for someone who is getting into live perfomances as a solo artist would be appreciated! NOTE: I am also looking at buying a Akai mk3 mini in the near future. Thanks fam.
  4. Hi, I use a HX Stomp for several months for professional use and I really like it. I built a external footswitch to change presets (FS4-5) and I'm using the HX Stomp in Snapshot Mode, that's great ! But... My problem : when I play in live conditions, I'm not that precise and I often step on 2 footswitches instead of the right one, so it open the bank of presets, which is really (really!) not confortable before a solo!... My question : is there a way to disable that function? I mean, keeping the control of snapshots with the footswitches but nothing else. I can't find anything in the Global settings... If not, is there a way to submit this idea to Line 6, and hoping they include it in a next firmware? By creating a petition or something like that... :) Thanks for your help! PS : "be precise" is not an valid answer ;)
  5. Hi there. I have a Helix Floor, an sm-58 and an FRFR Headrush 108. have a gig coming up playing some 80's power ballads, with a questionable sound person : we have 3 vocalists in the bare minimum power trio + singer band. I know that you can have parallel paths for guitar/microphone. My question is, from experience, what can I do to simplify the sound person's job, and make my on-stage experience better. For example: 1. Should I mix in my vocals into the signal that goes to the FOH 2. Not mix in my vocals, but run my mic through the chain and out the FRFR 3. In general, what should I provide as outputs: e.g.: left XLR is vocals and right XLR is guitar? Just wondering what works. In theory, I know my options, but in practice, that's another story. Thanks in advance.
  6. No question. The HX Stomp is an amazing piece of hardware and the sounds are fantastic. Still, I struggle with using the pedal. Mainly I want to use the HX Stomp in a live situation. The stomp has its place on my pedalboard. But I am often unsure. Is the HAX Stomp now active or not? If I use several effects in a chain I still only have 2 switches. How can I be sure that effects in the chain which are not assigned to a switch are switched off? I thought ok, snapshots are a good idea. The problem is, I can unfortunately only switch between the snaphsots. I can't turn a snaphsot on and off. So I need snapshot1 for a signal with all effects switched off to be sure that I have a pure signal. Effects are then assigned to Snapshot 2 + 3. That seems like a waste to me. What experiences have you had? How do you solve these problems in a live situation? Have I overlooked something? Thank you for your help. Best regards Christoph
  7. 1. Plug the Variax into the PODxt Live Variax input 2. Press the OUTPUT MODE b\utton and scroll the SELECT knob until you see MIDI/VARIAX. Use the fourth soft black button under VARIAX to activate input 3. Press the EDIT button. Scroll the SELECT knob clockwise to the very last page. 4. Change Variax models by highlighting MODEL with a soft button under the main LCD screen and use the tweak knob to the right of the screen. 5. Parameters are saved per patch and settings are reinforced when the patch is loaded. NOTE about Alternate Tunings: Alternate tunings are part of your Variax customization in Workbench and called up within a PODxt Live patch with the customized guitar model. To select or customize tuning in Workbench: 1. Click PRESET (1) at the bottom left hand corner of the editor screen. 2. Select 'Alternate Tuning' preset, load, and close. 3. Click SEND (2) and apply setting to one of your custom guitars. In the illustration I used Custom Lester Model 2*1 4. Go back to the Workbench Main Page and SYNC your Variax with the changed settings 5. You can now exit Workbench. On the PODxt Live: Select the model you wish to load & save patch to desired location.
  8. I recently purchased a Headrush FRFR112 to use live with my Helix LT. I want to use the FRFR112 for stage volume, and the way I used it this weekend was: XLR-out from Helix to XLR-in on the FRFR112, then XLR-out of FRFR112 to FOH. My dilemma is that once my level is set in sound check, if I need to tweak the volume on either the Helix or the FRFR112, it messes up the mix. What's the best way to route everything so that I control my own stage volume without affecting FOH? Do I route one Helix output to the FRFR112, and the other to FOH? How are all of you doing this?
  9. can new variax models (such JT/ Standard/ Shuriken) run properly on PODxt Live? are they fully compatible? thanks.
  10. Q: How many different ways can I connect my POD X3 Live in a live setting? 1. Mono or Stereo Recording or Direct to Mixer/PA 2. Feed One Guitar Amp 3. Feed Two Guitar Amps, One for Tone 1 and One for Tone 2 4. Feed a Guitar Amp and Send Separate XLR Direct Outs to Mixer/PA 5. Electric Guitar to On-Stage Amp & Direct Out + Vocals/Acoustic/etc.to Direct Out Only NOTE: Instructions to the connection methods listed above can be found in the POD X3 Live Pilots Manual Section 7*1, download it here! Q: Can I use a phantom powered condenser mic with the POD X3 live? A: The POD X3/X3 Live does not offer phantom power which is needed when using any condenser type microphones for recording or live use. See Referenced KB link for details. No sound out of microphone with X3/X3 Live Q: I just want the original factory sounds back into my POD X3 live, can I do this without having to connecting it to the computer and launching Line 6 Monkey? A: Sure you can, you can do this directly from the X3 Live hardware interface How do I restore the Factory Presets in my POD X3 Live? Q: What is Dual Tone? A: DUAL TONE is the ability to split your single-input guitar or bass signal through two different amp and effect chains simultaneously to create gorgeous new hybrids, or use its dual inputs to individually process two instruments - a microphone and a guitar, for example - at the same time. Q: And how do I make a dual tone patch? A: Here is an example given in the pilots manual for exhibit 3: Feed Two Guitar Amps, One for Tone 1 and One for Tone 2.....(Manual 7*3) 1. Connect the left 1/4-inch output to one amp, and the right 1/4-inch output to the other. 2. Set the first OUTPUTS page (1/4-inch Outputs): * Mode: Combo Front, Combo Pwramp, Stack Front, or Stck PwrAmp. * Lows, Focus, Highs: as desired *Tone 1: On * Tone 1 Pan: Full Left * Tone 2: On * Tone 2 Pan: Full Right 3. Check your Master Volume. • Select the loudest preset/settings you intend to use. • Play your instrument and turn Master Volume as high as you can without clipping the amp/speakers you're feeding. Q: I made a dualtone patch with my MIC on tone 2, but it changes when I switch patches, how do I lock it? A: From the main signal chain Page of your X3 live LCD screen, you can lock Tone 2 to prevent it from getting overwritten when loading new presets. This is handy when you're using Tone 2 for vocals and you want to make sure it doesn't change when you recall guitar presets on Tone 1. From the Pilots Handbook page: 4-9 Watch this Demonstration of the X3's Dual Tone Feature: Crunch Dual Tone Video Q: Does the tuner only work with the 1/4" mono guitar input? A: The X3 Live tuner only operates on the Tone 1 input. If you've selected Variax, it will tune the variax.
  11. Anyone else notice a significant difference between the following: - Recorded Helix playback - ie guitar track recorded by helix, into software and then played back - And live playing ie just playing into helix (not recording), sound coming out of speaker Both of the above use the same amplification (powercab set to FRFR) I noticed scenario one sounds much better! Sidenote: when i use my variax I always prefer the recorded playback to the sound I get when playing live. Anyone else experienced anything similar. It is frustrating as the tone I want is provided via the recorded playback - not so keen the live sound i'm getting. If any of the above makes sense i'd appreciate some help. Thanks, Dave
  12. Good afternoon, I'm a proud owner of a PODxt Live for many years; It worked like a charm until a few weeks ago. Starting from the beginning, a year ago I broke the USB connector; Almost a month ago I decided to finally fix the USB port, so I changed the connector to a new one (I'm experienced with electronics), when I turned on the POD to try out the new USB connector, the POD simply wouldn't start; It flashed all the LED's and maintained them on, a brick with lights basically. The USB works just fine, I can access to the POD via PC but the Flash Memory is just not accessible; I checked every internal part on the POD, all the values are normal and nothing seems to be "broken". Is it possible that anyone can get me the Flash Memory full dump file of a PODxt Live so I can reprogram mine? Sorry for my bad English, Best Regards.
  13. Hey, i recently got my HX STOMP, I play bass (metal band) and the way i have it set it up in my preset is i split crossover the signal into a high freq and a low freq. I added a compressor into the low freq chain and thats it, and into the high freq i use distortion and a cab sim. My question is: Can i send a signal to my cab (without the cab sim) for stage fill and a signal with the cab sim on to the FOH (that would be my main sound) Thanks a lot!
  14. I bought a used POD X3 Live some time ago, but was never able to get any sound out of it. The outputs seemed completely dead—no hum, hiss, or anything. I just now reinstalled the latest firmware (not an update, just a reinstall) and I can finally get sound, but it still behaves very strangely. When I switch to patch A, B, C or D, the LED next to the pedal indicates Volume mode, but no sound comes out in any pedal position. If I manually click the pedal into Wah mode, sound comes out, but the pedal doesn't affect either the Wah or the Volume! I found some online discussion of problems with the pedal, but nothing definitive. Anybody know about this?
  15. Yo, Helix brainiacs! I miss the days of wirelessly connecting to the Firehawk for editing during live performances. Could actually get some crazy effects by tweaking the delay parameters in the middle of a trail , and other cool stuff. And there's a bunch of other reasons for live use of the editor that i'll spare you. As for the foot control- g'head , but it doesn't work as well as a tablet or laptop for me. I've been researching and coming up with zip- any suggestions for wirelessly connecting laptop to the USB -B on the Helix ? Otherwise , i'll stick to my 10 foot USB cable. Thanks
  16. Hi all, This will hopefully be a very simple question (: I just got my helix, I'm new to the digital/modeling world and am used to the very simple guitar > pedalboard > amp setup for gigs. Obviously I searched for tutorials and videos but couldn't find anything clear enough for me to understand, so please explain to me like a 5 year old- How do I connect my helix straight to FOH for playing live (no cabs/amp or anything)? Thanks!
  17. I have been using a Pod X3 Live for about 4 years. It was bought 2nd hand so its well out of date now, and parts cannot be easily obtained in the UK. Last year the power supply went down totally and my techie boffin pal rigged up a workaround, because the parts to reinstate it were not available. He did warn me that it may not be economic to repair again and would probably blow again. Anyway it suddenly stopped dead and went blank a week ago, admittedly after I had been perhaps over-enthusiastically wa-wa-ing, (which might be a clue?). I smelled burning so something shorted out. My boffin pal had a look and tells me its all powering up OK, and there is no obvious burned out part visible, but there is no audio output at all! Its probably bound for the scrap heap to be replaced by a second hand HD500X off ebay, but I'm wondering if anyone knows if there might be a simple fix for this? My immediate thought is either that the sound output power supply (on the board?) has blown, or its something to do with the expression pedal failing. A second question is whether I will be able to load in my setups via Gearbox into the HD500X? I think so, but nobody I have asked knows for sure. It would be so great not to have to reinvent the wheel!
  18. Hi! So I'm about to buy an Helix Rack, that I'm gonna use live and at rehearsals with my "modern metal" band (Architects, BMTH, Deftones type of sound..). I'm looking for the best FRFR speaker I could get for this usage between 300€ to maximum 400€. I already looked for the Mackie Thump15, Headrush 112 and ALTO speakers, and heard good and bad things about these but struggle to find good feedbacks from users with a similar situation/need. What would you recommend? Any help would be appreciated! ps: also, what would be the most suited speaker diameter? 10, 12 or 15"?
  19. I’ve been going out stereo with xlr’s for a good while but never felt I had the sound and spread I wanted. Im now using two amps with two separate outs with one amp panned 24 left and the other 24 right, using stereo reverbs and delays. It now sounds great through headphones and my daw. What’s the best way to treat this in rehearsals and a gig in terms of the pa mixer? Should i pan an each channel hard left and right at the mixer or both in the centre and the helix panning will sort it? Any help or tips with stereo out to pa with two different amps would be great, thanks.
  20. I am planing on swapping my Helix for a Helix Rack + Controller but, I have a few questions: 1. Can the Controller fit in a rack drawer? I am guessing a 2U? 2. How do you transport the Volume pedal? I am guessing you have another drawer just for pedals and you have to connect them at the venue you're playing at? 3. What rack did you get and what do you have on? Drawer for cables? Patchbay? Power conditioner? 4. Do you use a tuner plugged in the Controller in case you can't see the rack? 5. What about the g10? If you use one what do you do? another drawer? (this rack is becoming really big!) I am sure I am not the only one with those questions, so I believe pics would also be great! Thanks :)
Gracias.
  22. Hi there, I have been trying to figure how to change setlists/patches/snapshots with midi through ableton live. Having read the manual and had an extensive look here/online, I could gather that: Change a Setlist - CC32 - to whichever is needed Change a Patch - PC - to the relevant one Change a snapshot - CC69 - to the relevant snapshot The ultimate aim is that I run backing tracks through Live (as of up to now I have been running scenes for each song in session view) And can leave the Helix offstage, but having some issues. So I have been creating a midi clip under the audio track needed in arangemenrt view. As the setlist needed was the first one, I had not input anything CC32 wise, I had input the PC as the relevant patch, and then in the envelope, selected 69 and drawn a line between 0 and 3 to trigger the relevant snapshot as the track moves on through. My main issue is that at points I can do this and it seems to work fine, then I run the track again and just either doesnt work, or selects different snapshots. A few things that I had noticed: - For a patch change the PC number had to be 1 higher than the actual number for some reason? - When trying to change to a different setlist, I have had to put the bank as 36, the sub as the correct one (3 ikn this case) and then the PC as the correct one (2 in this case) and it would work. But then again I would try the track agian and just would not work. So am hoping/praying/begging that someone may be able to give me a breakdown on how to do this from scratch, am reletively new to midi so just working things out for myself, but seem to be hitting a brick wall. Ideally, where do I set the CC32 number to select the setlist, then the same with the patch and snapshot, and get this working in a live situation. Have attached a screenshot to show how the notes/envelope is setup. Any help would be greatly appreciated :) Many Many thanks Steve
  23. Good day! Just thought I'd share my experience... First, bass amp models sound much better after tweaking. Anything to "tighten up" the sound, like the sag and mic distance. Second, two paths sound better than one; flattens up your tone. Third, dialing in a tone as close to live volume through my home pa gets me closest to what it will sound like live through the fronts, but headphones get you close. Usually I am asked to turn down the lows a bit, if anything. I went live for a show with a loud drummer (godsmack tribute) and ONLY a Peavey DM115 (no back line). I managed, but it didn't cut it. Not loud enough, and no subtleties came through. Guitar players seem to have no trouble with the same set up, but most sound guys don't seem to fully understand modelers, and that we are trying to avoid being at their mercy for monitor volume. This is less of an issue in larger clubs with larger PAs and good sound guys. Best sound I get now is backlining with my mark bass tube 800 through a single 4x10. I use the helix in front of it, replacing my tried and true, and hard to beat, ME 50B, for volume, tuner, compressor, effects. Honestly, I haven't figured out how to make it sound as crisp and clean as the me-50b, but it's close. Now here's the thing, I run a completely different rig to the front of house. Usually the Hartke with the 8x10. Lots of compliments, and I can hear over the rest of band. I have not yet found a monitor that is loud enough for me to go without the back line. I'm about to get a QSC power amp and Yamaha 12 inch monitors. I'm hoping that's going to work out. As much as I would like to walk in with just a combo amp, my situation requires serious volume, and I can't only bring one amp and hope it doesn't blow. Lastly, my mark rig with the ME 50B, is very portable, and sounds better than most rigs to my ear. I bring an extra head with me just in case and I actually run two 4 by 10s. But I don't get all the bells and whistles I get with the helix. That's where I'm at! I didn't see anyone else posting about playing bass through the helix to the extent that I'm trying to. Comments and suggestions are welcome!
  24. I currently have no experience with setting up fx processors for live/rehearsal use through a guitar cabinet, but I am thinking about obtaining a Helix (maybe Axe Fx if I'm patient enough) to add a digital rack setup on top of my current tube amp/cab/pedals setup. Just to have the best of both worlds. I want to stick to a solid state power amp, but do I go Rocktron Velocity 300 or Matrix GT800FX/GT1000FX? I obviously want to maximize my sound in terms of quality, but also in terms of volume without blowing my speakers or being too quiet. I'm not sure how wattage in a sold state amp affects this, and I'd like to go Matrix, but only if they don't destroy these cabs with one small or bad turn of a knob because of their high output capabilities -- 400w/channel or 800w bridged for example -- into a 280w Mesa 4x12 (live/rehearsal) or 120w Orange 2x12 (home). But I can't afford to have the 300w Rocktron be too quiet for a live or rehearsal situation even if it does suffice for at-home use. Bottom line: Which power amp should I get and how would I avoid damage? I see people using the Matrix's all the time with cab setups but how do they not blow their cabs? Just keep the Matrix turned down low all the time? Is it an impedance thing? Side note: The Orange also only has a 16 ohm option so without rewiring how would that work, if it can at all since I believe these amps do 8 ohms? I know there's other options for speaker setups but I'm asking specifically about guitar cabinets... for now. I play heavy music. Much appreciated.
  25. Hello! So I am playing a show in a few weeks, and I am currently running my helix to a powered speaker for monitoring (with a flat EQ of course). I am thinking about trying to send a signal with the same tone/eq/etc to FOH just so they can crank it in their monitors more. Am I overthinking this, or can I simply run a 1/4" cable to my speaker via 1/4" OUT L output, and run another 1/4" to XLR to the FOH via the 1/4" OUT R output? I am trying it with my interface, and the exact same tone is coming through both outputs (which is what I am looking for). Thanks!
