  1. I saw one response to this but it seemed to be for the "XT" models. Is there any way on the Pod/X3 (bean) to change the order? I ALWAYS put my compressor right after the guitar, and there doesn't seem to be any way to move the FX around on an X3. Thanks, B>
  2. Finally installed gearbox on High Sierra... And it's working 100% Here's what I did. Download Gearbox 3.72 DMG Double click on the DMG package VIEW PACKAGE CONTENTS by: Right clicking on the Package Icon Left clicking 'View Package Contents' Double Click on Contents Double Click on Packages FOR EACH PACKAGE: Right Click the package and Select open. This will run the installer for the individual package Some packages may not install properly, but don't worry... NOW CHECK THAT EACH PACKAGE INSTALLED CORRECTLY For each Package: Right Click and view package contents (see above) Navigate to the folder /Content/Resources/english.lprog/ Double click on the file the ends with .info This should open as a text file. In the text file will be information about where the contents of the package were supposed to be installed. Make a note of the location Navigate to the folder /Content/Resources/ and double click on the .gz file Copy the extracted file Navigate to the target location you made a note of above If the file isn't there, paste it to that location Reboot the machine Open Monkey, and get and the latest driver. After you install the latest driver, make sure Monkey can see your POD. Open System Preferences: Under Security and Privacy General tab, if there is an exception for the line 6 package, click to allow it Make sure the Line 6 Audio Midi Tab is also there Now you should be good to go... The biggest problem I had initially was Gearbox saying that the driver for the X3 was incompatible or something like that... It turns out that the Gearbox uses 2 drivers... The first is the MIDI driver, which its happy to use the latest and greatest downloaded via Monkey. The second is the Audio Driver... The Audio driver was one of the things that didn't install properly when I installed each package... Someone else may want to make a more concise set of instructions... I spent a while messing with this... The really neat thing though are the .info files because they tell you what is supposed to be installed and where. Oh and if you can't see the Library folder(s) you may need to right click in finder and tell it to let you see it... Or you might have to do something at the Command Prompt... I am pretty sure I enables all of that on my MAC way back, and I can't remember exactly how you do it.
  3. Hi, i'm using x3 live. I replaced u17, u18, u19, u20 to oap2134ua and opa4134u. After replacement, i touched u18, the opa4134ua was very hot and i could only hear noise from the headphone jack. U30(5va regulator) also was hot. Chip temperature was about 65°C. I think u18and u20 shorted, so i removed u18, u20 and i could heard guitar sound. And, +15V and -15V rail also shorted each other. But, u30(5va regulator) was still hot(65°C). is the regulator temperature normal?
  4. Q: How many different ways can I connect my POD X3 Live in a live setting? 1. Mono or Stereo Recording or Direct to Mixer/PA 2. Feed One Guitar Amp 3. Feed Two Guitar Amps, One for Tone 1 and One for Tone 2 4. Feed a Guitar Amp and Send Separate XLR Direct Outs to Mixer/PA 5. Electric Guitar to On-Stage Amp & Direct Out + Vocals/Acoustic/etc.to Direct Out Only NOTE: Instructions to the connection methods listed above can be found in the POD X3 Live Pilots Manual Section 7*1, download it here! Q: Can I use a phantom powered condenser mic with the POD X3 live? A: The POD X3/X3 Live does not offer phantom power which is needed when using any condenser type microphones for recording or live use. See Referenced KB link for details. No sound out of microphone with X3/X3 Live Q: I just want the original factory sounds back into my POD X3 live, can I do this without having to connecting it to the computer and launching Line 6 Monkey? A: Sure you can, you can do this directly from the X3 Live hardware interface How do I restore the Factory Presets in my POD X3 Live? Q: What is Dual Tone? A: DUAL TONE is the ability to split your single-input guitar or bass signal through two different amp and effect chains simultaneously to create gorgeous new hybrids, or use its dual inputs to individually process two instruments - a microphone and a guitar, for example - at the same time. Q: And how do I make a dual tone patch? A: Here is an example given in the pilots manual for exhibit 3: Feed Two Guitar Amps, One for Tone 1 and One for Tone 2.....(Manual 7*3) 1. Connect the left 1/4-inch output to one amp, and the right 1/4-inch output to the other. 2. Set the first OUTPUTS page (1/4-inch Outputs): * Mode: Combo Front, Combo Pwramp, Stack Front, or Stck PwrAmp. * Lows, Focus, Highs: as desired *Tone 1: On * Tone 1 Pan: Full Left * Tone 2: On * Tone 2 Pan: Full Right 3. Check your Master Volume. • Select the loudest preset/settings you intend to use. • Play your instrument and turn Master Volume as high as you can without clipping the amp/speakers you're feeding. Q: I made a dualtone patch with my MIC on tone 2, but it changes when I switch patches, how do I lock it? A: From the main signal chain Page of your X3 live LCD screen, you can lock Tone 2 to prevent it from getting overwritten when loading new presets. This is handy when you're using Tone 2 for vocals and you want to make sure it doesn't change when you recall guitar presets on Tone 1. From the Pilots Handbook page: 4-9 Watch this Demonstration of the X3's Dual Tone Feature: Crunch Dual Tone Video Q: Does the tuner only work with the 1/4" mono guitar input? A: The X3 Live tuner only operates on the Tone 1 input. If you've selected Variax, it will tune the variax.
  5. Q: Can I connect my POD/2.0/XT/X3/Live to the front (instrument input) of my amplifier? A: Yes.You will want to create as clean a sound as possible on your amplifier. You will want to make the combo amplifier's EQ as "flat" as possible by turning the treble and bass controls to zero and maxing out the mid control. You should also set POD's output to 9 or 10 o'clock to avoid overdriving the instrument input of the amplifier and have no effects active. You will want to experiment with the output level on the POD to create a sound that works for your situation. Below is the routing for this set up: Guitar > POD unit > Amplifier instrument input. This works but you will be stacking two preamps in series (the POD unit acts as a preamp). Make sure you also adjust the OUTPUT Mode on the POD unit for optimal tone, many end users prefer "Combo/Stack FRONT" Q: Can I bypass the preamp section of my amp to avoid stacking two preamps? A: Yes, There are two ways this can be accomplished. 1) If your amplifier has a CD/MP3 input you can go directly in the this jack from the POD output (This is a common method with the Line 6 Spider Series amplifiers). Be aware you may need to "trick" your amplifier input by using a 1/4" "dummy" plug in the instrument input to allow signal to pass to the speaker (headphone adaptors often work well for this purpose). Guitar > POD unit > Amplifier CD/MP3 input with 1/4" "dummy" plug in the instrument input 2) If your amplifier has an effects loop (i.e. the Line 6 Spider Valve or Flextone) you can use your POD unit as the main Pre amp and distortion generator, using only the power amp section of your amplifier by plugging into the "effects return" or "power amp input". If the amplifier has a "power amp in", the POD output will most likely control the output volume. If the amplifier has "effect loop return" the amplifier master volume will most likely control the output volume. Below is the routing for this: Guitar-> POD In - POD Out -> Amp FX Return. Make sure you also adjust the OUTPUT Mode on the POD unit for optimal tone Combo or Stack PWRAMP when applicable. Q: Can I run my POD/X3/xt/Pro/Live/Floor in an effect loop of an amplifier to use just the effects rather than the amp modeling? A: Yes, it is possible to to run a POD as an effect unit in the effect loop of an amplifier. You may want to turn off the amp modeling or use as clean a sound as possible to avoid stacking preamps. You may also need to lower the "line level" signal of the amplifier's effect send output to "instrument level" to avoid potential damage to the input of your POD. Some POD units will have a pad switch that will accomplish this function. If your POD unit does not have an input pad switch, a device such as the Ebtech Line Level Shifter can be used to lower the line level if necessary. Below is the routing for this: Guitar > Amp In / Amp FX Send> POD IN - POD Out > Amp FX Return. With this routing, you would have to bypass the amp modeling on the POD unit and use it for FX only, using your amp's own preamp section. Q: Can I connect my POD to two amps for a stereo configuration? A: Yes. Connect the left output of the Pod to the input of one amp and the right output of the Pod to another amp. It would be best if you could connect your Pod to the amps using the effects loop of the amp if you have one since it will bypass the preamp of your amplifier. Q: What is the Four cable method? (POD X3 Live and Pro Only) A: The "Four Cable" method (4CM) can be used for any effect unit that has an effects loop when connecting to an amplifier that has an effects loop (i.e. the POD X3 Live). This cabling method allows the end-user to place filters and overdrive units before the preamp section of the amplifier, and modulation and delay effects after the effect loop in the effect unit. This way the amplifier will provide the tones and the Line 6 device will provide the effects (pre and post). Be sure to enable the effects loop, and experiment with Pre-post effect to decide which method works best for you. Instrument > X3Live guitar in X3Live effect loop send > instrument input of amplifier Amplifier effect loop send > X3Live effect loop return X3 line output > Amplifier effect loop return. Q: Can I run the two tones separately, such as one tone for "pre" amp sounds and the other for "post" (i.e. effect loop) sounds? A: An "alternate" method of the Four Cable method is to completely separate the front of the amp effects (i.e. filters and overdrives) into Tone 1, and the time based effects (chorus, delay, reverb) in Tone 2. The tones will need to be panned hard left (1) and hard right (2) in the outputs section (any blending of the tones may result in feedback). Be aware that you will need to have both tones active to get sound, and you need to set up the inputs as follows: Tone 1: Guitar, Tone 2: Aux. Feel free to experiment with the "amp settings" to determine which setting works best for your setup. The connection wiring is: Instrument > X3Live guitar in X3Live Live (left) output > amplifier input Amplifier FX loop send > X3Live Aux input X3Live (right) output > Amplifier FX loop return Video is listed alphabetically under "Multi-Effects".
  6. I bought a used POD X3 Live some time ago, but was never able to get any sound out of it. The outputs seemed completely dead—no hum, hiss, or anything. I just now reinstalled the latest firmware (not an update, just a reinstall) and I can finally get sound, but it still behaves very strangely. When I switch to patch A, B, C or D, the LED next to the pedal indicates Volume mode, but no sound comes out in any pedal position. If I manually click the pedal into Wah mode, sound comes out, but the pedal doesn't affect either the Wah or the Volume! I found some online discussion of problems with the pedal, but nothing definitive. Anybody know about this?

  8. It's clear that AMPLIFi is based on the old architecture from XT/X3/PodFarm. My question is, will we be able to load our custom tones built using those tools? And along with that does AMPLIFi come with all the model packs from PODFarm Platinum and support dual tone modes?
  9. Q: How many Rack Units does the X3 Pro take up? A: 3 Rack Units Q: What are the dimensions of the POD X3 Pro? A: X3 Pro Dimensions: Width: 17" (19" including the ears) Heighth: 5" Depth: 8" Q: The Specifications on the web states that the X3Pro requires USB 2.0 but the actual USB input on the back panel is not labeled. Does it required USB 2.0? A: POD X3 Pro, as well as POD X3 and X3 Live, requires USB 2.0. For details on USB connectivity please refer to the USB Connectivity Guide Q: How do I restore the X3 Pro to it’s the Factory Presets? A: Press and hold the 'Home/Hold For Commands' button, select'Reset User Presets' and press the 'Save' knob to reset the User bank to its factory presets. Q: Will the included POD Farm Plugin require us to use the X3Pro as a dongle? A: The POD Farm Plugin works with the POD X3 Pro just like it does with other compatible products. The answer is yes. Q: Are any of the inputs/outputs, processors or other hardware/software sonically superior to the X3L/Bean? A: No Q: What are the MIDI implications of the X3 Pro? A: The MIDI Implications are the same as the POD X3 and the POD X3 Live. The X3 series include a USB connection, and these units will both expose a set of USB MIDI In/Out ports on your Windows or Mac computer. However, these devices utilize different types of commands and, therefore, will not respond to MIDI control data. As with POD X3 Live, the Pro includes 5-pin MIDI In/Out jacks that can be used strictly for receiving MIDI Program Change messages (For scrolling through User Presets) and for sending MIDI CC data when using the onboard pedal for Volume, Wah, and Tweak parameters. Q: What is the software compatibility of the X3 Pro? A: The POD X3 Pro is currently compatible with Line 6 Monkey, Gearbox, Guitarport Online, Workbench (w/ a Variax Guitar), and as a dongle for the POD Farm Plug-in (within your DAW only). Q: How can I tell which version of Flash Memory & USB firmware is installed in my X3Pro? A: Press and hold 'OUTPUTS' for system settings. Use the directional keys to scroll to the last page: The versions are displayed under 'CNTRST'™ Shown as: FLASH MEMORY VERSION: x.xx USB FIRMWARE VERSION: x.xx Q: How do I sync the POD X3 Pro to slave over S/PDIF? A: The POD X3 Pro expects the master clock signal on its S/PDIF input only, so, connecting the S/PDIF IN must be connected to master clock source. Make sure you connect the S/PDIF OUT on your POD X3 Pro to the S/PDIF IN of your clock master unit and S/PDIF IN on your POD X3 Pro to S/PDIF OUT of your clock master. In the INPUTS page of the POD X3 Pro, set anything BUT Variax as Tone 1 and Tone 2 and DIGITAL set to S/PDIF. In the OUTPUTS page of the POD X3 Pro, set your S/PDIF outputs settings in the Studio Direct Mix menu, and MATCH DIG IN for RATE.
  10. Update Instructions Available HERE NOTE: For X3 Live and X3 Pro users, see notes on subsequent firmware releases at https://line6.com/software/index.html. POD X3 Product Family Flash Memory v2.0 RELEASE NOTES: If you are a POD X3/X3 Live/X3 Pro owner, please download and install the latest version of Line 6 Monkey software and use it to update your POD X3 Live to this latest version of Flash Memory. For best results, calibrate pedal after update] POD X3 v2.0 is a FREE update to all POD X3 Product Family customers. It includes 12 additional FX inspired by the sounds of sought-after stompboxes and rack gear! What does it include? Vocoder: Our 14 band Vocoder is based on the classic rack units employed by recording studios and modular synths since the early '70s. Use the decay knob to slow down the Vocoder's responsiveness to create some haunting drones. Dynamic Delay: Made popular by the T.C. Electronic® 2290 Dynamic Digital Delay. While you play, the Dynamic Delay keeps the volume of the echoes turned down, so that the echoes don't overwhelm what you're doing. Dimension: Based on* the Roland® Dimension D. One of the first true stereo chorus units. Relatively subtle in its nature, it became an industry standard for double-track effects. Pitch Vibrato: Based on* the Boss® VB-2. It contained a circuit that produced bubbly vibrato, but was popular for its 'rise time' control that when engaged, sped up to where you last set it. Voice Box: Inspired by Vocoders, Vocal Tracts & Surgical Tubing. This model gives your guitar a sound that's typical of a classic talk box. V-Tron: Voice Box meets Mu-Tron® III. In this model your guitar again 'speaks' with an almost human voice, but now it does so in response to your playing. Octisynth: Inspired by eight armed denizens of the deep. Everyone knows that all you need is a bottleneck and a reverb tank to get whale sounds, but how about our friend the Octopus? Q Filter: Your very own parked wah! You've heard it before from Mark Knopfler and from Brian May of Queen's a wah 'parked' in one position. Pattern Tremolo: Inspired by* Lightfoot Labs Goatkeeper. This effect is what you'd get if you could hook up a vintage keyboard sequencer to a tremolo. Frequency Shifter: A ring modulator gives you both up and down shifted frequencies. Here you can select just the up or down shifted frequencies. Barberpole Phaser: A classic effect from the world of modular synths. This phaser either sounds like it's always going up or always down depending on how you set it. Set to stereo you get both! Script Phaser: Based on* MXR® Phase 90. Just like the original our model only features a Speed control * All product names used in this webpage are trademarks of their respective owners, which are in no way associated or affiliated with Line 6. 11. I have been using a Pod X3 Live for about 4 years. It was bought 2nd hand so its well out of date now, and parts cannot be easily obtained in the UK. Last year the power supply went down totally and my techie boffin pal rigged up a workaround, because the parts to reinstate it were not available. He did warn me that it may not be economic to repair again and would probably blow again. Anyway it suddenly stopped dead and went blank a week ago, admittedly after I had been perhaps over-enthusiastically wa-wa-ing, (which might be a clue?). I smelled burning so something shorted out. My boffin pal had a look and tells me its all powering up OK, and there is no obvious burned out part visible, but there is no audio output at all! Its probably bound for the scrap heap to be replaced by a second hand HD500X off ebay, but I'm wondering if anyone knows if there might be a simple fix for this? My immediate thought is either that the sound output power supply (on the board?) has blown, or its something to do with the expression pedal failing. A second question is whether I will be able to load in my setups via Gearbox into the HD500X? I think so, but nobody I have asked knows for sure. It would be so great not to have to reinvent the wheel!
  12. Hello, I have recently aquired an used X3 (bean) with a FBV Express MkII controller. This all works fine, but when I configure the pedal control in GearBox to "Both Tones", "1 1=twk|2=vol" and "2 1=twk|2=vol" and under Tweak "Mod:Mix" under both, the footswitch pedal does not actually alter the Mix option for the Modulation (which is enabled) on both Tones (Dual enabled). I tried other options for Tweak and they don't seem to react either. When the settings are on 1=w/v|2=twk for example, the footswitch pedal does alter the volume and can switch Wah on. Anybody any idea? I can tweak the pedal settings with FBV Controller but that should only be used if the controller is connected with USB to the PC. The controller works with the network cable on the bean.

  14. Hello everybody, i'm a bass player. I felt in love with helix but...it's so expensive, and I don't know if it worths the price for a bassa player. My need is to use some effects (comp. ocatvers, synths, wah) and sometimes amp models becaus I don't wanto to carrie all my stack. Now I have a zoom b3, a mark bass super synth and an ebs compressor, but I don't think b3 is good for amp simulation. My question is.....shall I consider POD HD 500x for bass or Helix is however better and worths the price? Shall I look for a used POD x3? I don't know what to do. It seems helix is designed expecially for guitar players (I know the firmware update introduced lots of amps for bass), and so the Pod HD (of course I would buy tha bass expansion pack), but pod hd costs about the half of Helix HD. Can you share your experiences with me? Can you give me some good advice please?
  15. Hello Everybody!! This is my first post!! Years ago I had a bass pod xt live....then I sold it and bought a zoom b3 because i did not use any simulation of amps and cabs anymore. Now...I'd like to return to Pod, and here is my question. Shall I buy a POD x3 Live...ora a Helix Xt???? I know that POD x3 is fair better than the POD XT, and that it is used also with bass...! I'd like Helix becuase it's a more recent product and...is very sexy :) but....it seems to me that is more guitar oriented than the X3. Can someone give me a good advice? Shall I spend money for an HELIX ora can i go straight to an X3... Another question.....using this two systems...can i sell my mark bass supersynth? Do the octaver and synths works well? The synths are highly configurable? Yhank you for your answers!!
  16. Hi I have downloaded some official pod farm Polyphia patches they used on their album. I tried loading these onto my POD X3 Pro but I am getting the "Unrecognized Driver. Your Pod X3 Pro will be ignored" issue in gearbox. I've spent days trying to get them to load with no success. I was hoping someone that had pod farm could load the patches for me and send me the settings used so I can manually set them up on my POD? I will be happy to share the patches with you but have no way myself of loading and viewing the settings. Let me know if you are interested and your email address and ill send these through. Regards
  17. Hey everyone. I got a POD X3 bean and a M-Audio UNO MIDI-USB interface and i'd like to connect them to my computer (which is a Mac). However, as far as I'm concerned, the X3 bean does not have a MIDI output/input (which is kind of odd since the lower-end POD 2.0 does) and I'm trouble here.. What I want to do is very simple: just use my headphones to listen to what i'm playing in my guitar through the POD and to music playing from my computer at the same time. If I connect my headphone to the headphone jack in my POD and connect the POD to my Mac directly via USB, I can use the POD as my soundcard, right? So any sounds coming from the computer would be played through the POD to my headphones in the same way my guitar playing would, right? Most of the time I'm just playing along songs I have here, and if i can just play something on iTunes and hear it on the same headphone I'm using with my POD that would be great, it would solve most of my problems. With this can I also record stuff (simple stuff, just using GarageBand or whatever...)? And I'd also like to know if there is any way around this MIDI problem with the X3.. I figured the MIDI would be a good way to control the POD via computer. Using direct USB connection, I cannot control the pod using the computer, right? Bummer... Is there anything I can do to this? Thanks!
  18. Hi, I've been using a POD X3 for my live sound for many years now and although I'm very happy with it, I've always wanted to upgrade, even more so now with the release of Helix. The trouble is, a few of my bands songs extensively use the X3's 'Synth Strings' effect, so much so that we cannot live without it. I bought an HD Pro a year or two back to replace the X3, seeing it had a 'Synth String' effect, however I had to return it as the HD's 'Synth String' sounded nothing like the X3's Synth String, plus it seemed the HD couldn't do half the the stuff the X3 could do in Dual Tone mode without reaching DSP processing limits? Are there plans to patch the Synth String effect into the Helix? If not, can there be? This will be the Synth String effect modelled on 'ARPSolina / Elka® Strings'. Also, for recording, I like to record the dry signal, and use POD Farm VST, so that I can tweak settings further down the line. Are there plans to make a VST Helix plugin, so that I can have Helix tones within my DAW, rather than one-shot recording?
  19. Hello everyone, I'm here to ask if it is safe to upgrade to windows 10 and my X3 will work; I've read of people having trouble with W10 so, to this day, have all those problems been fixed? by the way, do I need to uninstall everything from line 6, upgrade and then install again the proper drivers and all? thank you! pod x3's still an awesome tool!
  20. Hi, I've encountered an audio output problem with my POD X3 Bean - it is connected to my PC via USB with all the latest drivers and utilities installed and updated. The thing is, that Pod Farm gets my guitar signal and indicates that there should be output sounds coming through, but I can't hear a thing. Is there a way to redirect the output to my system's default output (speakers)? I don't have enough cables to make a L/R setup from the POD to my PC, so the USB is my best chance. I didn't hear any of the POD's output sounds when I was messing with ASIO, either - same thing with the Control Panel -> Sounds, although I could hear the signal only when I checked the "Listen to this device" box, with enormous latency. So it's definitely getting and giving a signal, though I have no idea how to get the output playing through my speakers. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
  21. Hey guys, I recently had gotten a spider 120 amp, and no longer need my pod x3. Out of a job so I'm selling it with no reserve. Thought you guys would enjoy the chance to buy an x3 live. http://www.ebay.com/itm/262147282304
  22. Lots of users have been disappointed about the death of GearBox with Yosemite... Me too, but after hours of messing around I managed to install and run it successfully! The problem that I and others experienced is that the installer package will not allow installation on the MAC HDD... I think it's a versioning issue (i.e. the version number for Yosemite is not recognized by the installer). Anyway I found a fairly simple workaround... The solution is a follows: Download and open Gearbox 3.72.dmg Right click the GearBox.mpkg icon Left click 'Show Package Contents' Double click 'Contents' folder Double click 'Packages' folder You should now see 10 individual packages... Install each one Note: If you previously installed other Line 6 software with a newer driver, it will not allow you to install the drivers in this package... You will need to uninstall the newer drivers first, then you should be good to go. Search the forum for details on how to uninstall the drivers using command prompt. Someone else posted instructions on how to do this... They also suggested another driver to use... I tried to install that one first and it wouldn't let me, so I ended up installing the drivers from the from the GearBox package above... Anyway, I am running Yosemite 10.10.1 on a MacBook Pro Retina, with a POD X3 Live, and so far it is working fine... No panic attacks... I was able to create and upload a tone to one of my user presets... By the way, before this, I did update the firmware on the X3 using a a separate version of Monkey that I had downloaded previously. I am not sure if this have any relevance with regard to MAC and the X3 playing nicely together once I reinstalled the old drivers.
  23. Just as the title says, I'm running into this problem. When I connect my x3 Live via usb, my pc prompts that it doesn't recognize the x3. I've downloaded the latest Line6 Monkey.
  24. Hi All, I got a problem with my X3 Live (MIDI settings) and Reaper. I use my POD for playing live along with backing tracks set in Reaper. I have created track for sending MIDI to POD and it works great BUT..... when I stop my DAW, my POD changes settings by itself (tap tempo is much faster, lower reverb mix). Is there any option to program MIDI to retain same settings while playing and while stopping? Please help. Thanks!
  25. Hello. For 3 months, every time that I save a patch the Pod X3 Live saves it in the D slot. It doesn't matter if I'm in the 24A or 22B or 13C, etc, it saves the current patch and overwrites the respective D slot at the same time. I try to update the flash memory, firmware and every looks ok in the Line 6 Monkey, but the problem is still happening. Any suggestions? PS: Sorry for the english
