  1. I'm so frustrated with my Pod HD. I've tried everything as previously mentioned posts and I still can't the wah effect from the pedal. It all started about a month ago when my FXs were acting strange...the amp models started sounding tinny, and the various effects started sounding strange as well. To my frustration, the Line 6 Updater utility keeps erroring out with a socket error. I had to manually update the multiple firmware and drivers and still I was unable to get the Wah working. I proceeded to reset the device to factory and installed the most current versions of drivers and software for the Pod HD. After restoring everything, the Wah is still non-existent. I re-calibrated the pedal, 0-255 saved perfectly. I removed the bottom cover, reseated the Wah's ribbon cable at both PC boards. Still nothing. Someone, please help me if I had omitted a step to resolve this issue. I really love the Pod HD and I really don't want to purchase another FX board.
  2. Silverhead, I stand corrected. I was able to download the application. Unbeknownst to me that I must have inadvertently selected Workbench. This time I double-checked my selection and sure enough, it wound up on Workbench - not on Workbench HD. I changed it verified the selection and downloaded the application to my thumb-drive. I'm at work right now, but I'll install the software. Thank you!!!
  3. Hi Silverhead, Yes, I've attempted the download (from the Line 6 site) the Variax / Workbench HD application, but the sites states, "At this time, there is no software available that matches your selection". I tried to install the regular Workbench, but it required Java that isn't available for Win 10.
  4. Hello everyone, Due to my previous Windows 7 laptop had finally came to it's hardware failure demise, I had to purchase another laptop loaded with Windows 10. After installing all of my favorite software and of course, all of my Line 6 drivers, utilities and software for the Pod HD500x and JTV-59, I was saddened to discover that the Variax Workbench isn't available for Windows 10. I tried everything to get it installed but, no luck. I even tried to install it on a 2012 mac-mini that I had just upgraded the operating system to Mojave. Again, I had ran into the same Variax Workbench not able to install. The bright side is that I may be able to get my hands on a hold of an old PC desktop. I'll install windows 7 on it and use it exclusively for my Variax/Pod tweaks. Does anyone know if the V-Workbench in the process of being updated?
  5. I don't understand the hub-bub regarding HD500x updates. It seems to me that once you have your tone/sound to your liking, all is good. I've been using my own "signature" sound for years. On occasion, I'll tweak FXs to fit the music but that's pretty much it. The HD500x (far as I'm concerned) is a work horse!
  6. I was wondering; is there a way to perform a "deep edit" on an amplifier model ( bias, sag, hum, etc.)?
  7. Thanks gtrman100, that may be the way to go for me. I like that! I'll use that method.
  8. I've been researching on connecting the Pod HD500x (digitally) to the new Spider V 240, but I can't seem to locate it. Going 100% digital with the Pod HD may not exist, but I want to verify with you all. I had programmed my favorite amp model/tones onto the POD and I want to continue to until I eventually transfer my settings to the Spider V. But I don't see a way to digitally connect them together. The only way I can see to connect the two is to plug an instrumental cable into one of the 1/4 unbalanced output of the POD and plug the other end of the cable into the input jack at the front of the Spider V. So am I correct that I have to go analog before I can program my setups into the amp?!
  9. Thanks, crusinon2, that is what I had planned to buy another cable. Last night, I closely inspected my original cable, and the end that I use to connect the guitar looked a bit worn. The sleeve that runs approx. 1 inch from and up from the connector looked a bit stressed. I'll post an update when I try out the new cable for the few weeks.
  10. For a couple of Sundays, whenever I'm playing my JTV-59, the volume randomly fluctuate. It would it either increase or decrease the volume suddenly, without warning. Although it isn't drastic, but it's definitely noticeable. At first, I'm looking at our sound guy and he's looking at me - we're both thinking "what is he doing!?" Then I realized that either my JTV or Variax cable is causing the problem. I tried to troubleshoot the best way I could. I verified that the battery was out of the guitar, I reseated the connections at the guitar and at the HD500x. While playing, I wiggled the cable at both ends; thinking if it's a short, my jostling of the cable would affect the volume. Unfortunately, I couldn't duplicate the problem. Now, I have to resort to using a typical 1/4" analog instrument cable. Could it be an issue with the cable? The connector at the guitar or Pod? HELP!!!
  11. Thanks Crusinon2, I'll just deal with it. Thank you too Hurcanico for your reply, I'd thought about that, but I rather leave the Pod intact.
  12. I play in a church band we all have to remain seated when playing. Is there a way to adjust the foot switch sensitivity. Unfortunately, I have to sit when playing. Because of that, I have no leverage and it's difficult to switch on/off the wah-wah effect. Thanks in advance.
  13. Is it possible to run the Boss tuner pedal through the FX loop of the HD500x and tune your JTV that way?
  14. "Best to have someone well trained at it." I definitely agree to that, psarkissian. I've learned my lesson on that one!
  15. Thank, but no thanks Bertokia. :) I appreciate your reply. I tried that long time ago, when I tried to save some cash. I bowed the neck so far that you can actually use it to shoot arrows! I'd rather pay someone to do detailed setup when a neck adjustment is required.
  16. Hi Charlie Thank you for replying. Did dropping your strings a bit affected your intonation at all? I've learned to adjust the action on my old Strat many years ago myself and I've even considered to the drop the strings a little at a time on my JTV59 (aka "JaniBelle"). .I'm pretty good with Strat style bridges and saddles, but the JTV59 is something I haven't touched before.
  17. Thanks, psarkissian for your reply! That is also is making me nervous / apprehensive on having a tech adjust the action, as soon as the season change, it will affect the guitar and I will suddenly experience fret buzz. However, I do feel bit rest assured that the tech can consult you. I'm very particular on who tinker with my "JaniBelle". I will think about this further before I call my local Line6 repair shop again. Again, thanks for the tip!
  18. HI Jim, I agree also that the strings feel over-tense to me too. I love the guitar, but I can't get comfortable with it...if you know what I mean. My JTV59 is the recent model. If you don't mind, keep me updated and let me know how your guitar feels after the adjustment. Peace!
  19. Hey everyone! I've been playing my JTV59 for awhile and I'm loving it. However, I can't really make it feel as if it's "a part of me" when I play it. When I play my Catvin Bolt, it's like I'm home, the action is perfect, and I feel so comfortable playing it. As long as I've been playing my JTV, I should feel at 100%, not 90% comfortable with it. The JTV's feels that the string action is a little too high for my taste Hopefully, someone in this forum who lives in the Tidewater or Richmond Virginia area could recommend a good, person or shop who does high quality setup on Line6 guitars? Also, the shops that are listed on Line6 authorized Repair facilities- can they be trusted to properly setup my guitar to my liking or will they stick with the default Line6 setups specs? Thanks!!
  20. I still have my stomp boxes (all Bosses by the way, except for one Ibanez) - I just couldn't part with them. Each pedal has their individual war wounds (scratches, dents, peeled paint, etc.) and they a story behind each one! Plus, I like to stroll down memory and lane, connected a few of them to my JC120 and enjoy the feel of my guitar playing through an actual amp - and not through a house system.
  21. Thanks, I've never had it fine tuned after I received the guitar in the mail. She sounded pretty good just out of the box, but that sensitive G string was (and still is) a tad sharp; even with 10s installed.
  22. Thanks everyone for the varied input. I've used Elixirs a few years back, but I couldn't get used to how they felt to my fingertips. However, I did appreciated their longevity. I didn't think I've changed them out as often as I did with non-coated strings; and I didn't even play the guitar that often as I do now. But now, since I am apparently "sweating battery acid" ( :D thanks for that one, cruisinon2), I will have to give them a try - one more time after I've consumed my bulk of pack non-coated strings.
  23. On my JTV59, I continued using the D'Addario strings, but I upgraded them to the EXL115 (11-49 gauge) strings. I love the way they feel and the tone is phenomenal. However, I noticed that almost within a week, my strings would start to corrode and lose its intonation! Is this normal? I tried what other guitarist suggested that Is supposed help preserve my strings - such as, using another brand of strings where each string is sealed to prevent corrosion (I don't like the feel of those strings), washing my hands or use hand sanitizer before playing, and use string lubricant. I've noticed though, that wiping the strings down after playing helps, but the strings still lose their tuning. Eventhough a fresh set of strings feels wonderful and plays fantastically, changing strings is no longer fun. The way the jtv59 bridge is made, changing strings ( to me) has become a tedious task. Also, the cost associated with buying the 10 set "pro pack" every other month is adding up too quickly. Like, now...I have to put on a new set and have my axe ready for Sunday's service; tuned up and ready. Any of you experience this? Who do you do to extend the life of your strings?
  24. Are you sitting somewhere that could be adding interference? A power panel somewhere? I have the same issue with my JTV59 and HD500x. At church I had played at one end of the platform for awhile with no buzzing; just pure clean audio output. But when the music minister decided to rearrange the musicians, I've started picking up all kind of interference from a Leslie Cabinet. I'm about 3 ft. away from it, but apparently, my rig is sensitive enough to pick-up interference from the Leslie's components (amp, cone motors). Just moving another foot away had diminished the noise immensely.
  25. Because I l-o-o-v-v-e my JTV59 so much just because of the sound versatility, I've pretty much use it now, as my main axe. The other guitars I own are now taking a back seat; they're lucky if they see the light of day at least once a week! The build of the JTV59 (in my opinion) appears and feel of high-quality. I agree too that my concern are the built-in electronics that are contained inside; especially the model selector. So far I haven't a need to change tuning yet. Of all things, the electronics should be able to withstand a nuclear blast as far as I'm concern. But I'm sure that Line6 (with all their products) have tested the quality, workmanship and endurance of the guitar's components. Especially not only Line6, but James Tyler names are riding on the quality of the JTV line. And I'm sure they want to uphold that status of the company that make high-quality state of the art musical instruments. However, in my career, I work in computer technology. Like clockwork, when we order laptops from a major PC manufacturer, out of 1000 computers that we received, at least 5 will have an issue with one of its components (hard drive, motherboard, video, etc.). The all have supposed have had passed quality control and everything. As I see in the forum, the JTV59 may suffer the same fate, due to the mass production aspect of the issue. Hopefully JTV59s is better that 5 out 1000. At least improve the numbers to at least 1 out of 100,000! Again, since the JTVs are man-made, mass produced with somewhat fragile electronics, I've decided (just in case), to be very, very, very selective on when I should enable either the Model or Alt tune knobs now. Since sounding just like the musician on a recording isn't that critical for what I play, I just concentrate on execution of the riffs/licks. I've pretty much created several clean, crunch and several standard modulation effects and wah tones with the mag pickups and only play around with the volume and tone knobs. I only call up the Model Selector only when needed. With my way of 'stretching' the use of the JTV59 electronics, it should last either mine or the guitar's lifetime. ;)
