  1. Hi Guys! i would like to share my experience with you. i owned all the pods line6 made..... until 1 month ago i owned a hd pro and a hd bean. sold the pro kept the bean, and bought an axe fx II xl + controller...... lot of money :-( of course the units are different...... the XL cost around 10 times the bean, i paid for the bean 280€ and for the XL 2599€...... i have to admit that the most significant difference is that when you choose an amp and a cab it sound already good with the deafult parametes.... not too much tweaking for me to create my desired tone..... but...... i think the big difference is made by the ultrares cabs......... i tried standard res cab and i have to admit that is not so different.... but ultra res cab made my days :-) i could hear the difference cleary.... we play with iems no amp on stage no wedge monitor....... so in the iem you can hear how much is gentle in the high frequencies...... is more "natural", more "as you expect" from a miced amp........ fx....... by my side fx ae totally opposed to amps.... when the amps sounds great with default parameters i find really difficult the fx...... example..... my rythm patch is in the pod and in the axe guitar - gate - drive - phaser (bypassed by ready to activate) - amp - cab ok..... with the pod i reach easily the phaser sound i like..... in the axe is a nightmare.... a big amount of controls, and doesn't sound as a phaser pedal..... but sound every time as a post effect...even if you choose the pre position and a pedal model..... delays reverbs choruses ar fairly superior IMHO...... the chance to have different output mode is fundamental for me...... another big difference i found is the feel when you play...... is more "inspiring"... but is every time difficult try to explain some feeling..... but i can assure you .... is different.... if you try both units in A/B comparison you can feel this difference...... so ...... the axe is better? yes the axe is 10 time better? i don't know.... i'm extremely happy about the machine....... i'm satisfied 100% and if i have the chance to go back 2 month i'll buy again..... but i'll keep my bean + shortboard for sure..... because is also a good machine, and i really portable.... and for the money there is not a better solution! Francesco
  2. during the weekend i did a lot of comparison between stock cabs, recabinet/amp designer pro (just cab), amproom and the space designer with free ir........... the feel is better with all the other combo than the stock cab...... let me explain...... first, my interest is basically on high gain sounds. when i use internal cab i'm basically forced to use fireball with xxl + 409...... other combo are by my side really unuseful...... i don't want to tell you that are totally unuseful...... for me every combo i tried is not completely satisfiyng........... when i use external ir..... i almost love every amp....... treadplate become fantastic, organic, clean and chunky but not boomy..... uber and soldano lovely...... when i use ir i basically use 4X12 cab with v30 and 57 on or off axis depending from the sound.......... well with stock cab i never been able to use this combo with satisfaction.... there is every time some kind of "grain" i don't like....... sincerely.... i prefer almost every other cab than the pod......... also as live sound....... we play direct into the foh...... we tried yesterday with the full pa...... sounds better with ir.... is becoming prominent and better focused in the mix........ this is my experience with cab... i m not a dps engineer.... but stock cab lack on low end (bit confused), mid range (not so "noose") and high freq (the high on the 57 are really "sizzly")....... i had better feeling with every ir player i used....... so if you guys would let us the chance to load our ir would be great...... and unnecessary to spend lot of money for something different :-)
  3. :-) you should...... but don't forget to buy it with a lor of coloured leds........ it will improve your show!!!!!!!!!!! by the way...... for play i'm very very happy with my tone........ with NO spectrum analyzer or IRs..... but i prefer to have better cabinets for the studio :-)
  4. as i told you before, is not important if you are a guitar player who plug the cable...... is a bit more complicated when you have to do the job...... or even if you are a guitar player, who plug the cable and go straight to the foh and monitoring from wedge monitor....... the guy at the desk cut completely everything under 250 hz in your sound...... and when you ask him he will tell you "who care"....... are you sure you'll don't care? because is the same field.....
  5. yes..... but i take this thread only in the technical aspect :-)
  6. you are right....... is not personal for me...... is a discussion on a product..... and if we talk about this i'm sure that with a complex IR you have more chance than with the dep param..... because i tried ......perhaps is more difficult to find the tone you are looking for than with the pod cab..... and if you ask me what i woul from the pod is just a change in the EQ ....... that for me is the most lacking feature of the pod.......
  7. if for you sounds good is ok........ and also for me sounds really good...... in fact i have one for main rig and a bean for spare....... but...... difference in resolution are not subjective....... are real and demonstrable........ if we don't care for live sound is different...... but in a record you can appreciate.... also whe mixed and mastered....... and for a recording situation........ physic of sound frequencies and phase make the difference....... i don't want to troll...... nor to be banned...... but i think that music production is not only feeling.........
  8. perhaps you don't ..... but if your primary job was to make the thing sound better you should........ for the same reason you mic a kick with a proper microphone, for the same reason that you don't listen to out of phase instrument in a record.....
  9. in my first post i wrote that i have a satisfiyng live (studio direct) sound....... i probably never spend money for custom IRs (also because if i want to record with is not so difficult)...... the point in the discussion was the cabs....... yes we have cabs, with IR would be better? for sure yes....... i care about this? no because i'm happy with my pods hd (i have 2), and no second time because if i want to use external IR i can.....
  10. you really think that the internal cab has a better resolution than a full custom IR? have you ever tried to do a simple test with a spectrum analyzer, recording the same section with internal cab or IR? because here we are not talking about wihat i feel or what you feel....... is math...... and is difficult that nuumbers are wrong......
  11. i'm not an expert...... but........ you have to agree that perhaps cabs native into the pod are probably not the best....... is simple to demonstrate....... (i think you know how) the fact is.... even if line6 will allow us to use custom IRs, the size of this IRs would probably be extreme smaller than the same IR used into what you want inside the DAW...... if you check size of IRs that you can use into a DAW or into AXE-fx..... is dramatically smaller........ so.... dep cab parameter could help a lot live........ but if you use a full custom IR..... is different........ i have a relly satisfiyng live sound (no real amp and cab... dirct to FOH) but i can cleary hear the difference recording.........
  12. you press enter twice quicly on the block of the amp and you access the amp (you'll see all the classic control of the amp drive bass etc....) on the bottom you'll find type of amp cabinet mic and amp control..... if you press the nav button right you'll access all the advanced features! hope it helps
  13. I have a pod hd pro and a hd bean...... sag/bias, all the advanced controls are in the standard firmware of those models....... from the 2.00 there are also advanced controls for cabinets....... hd-x provide just a +20% on dsp power....... i honestly almost never saw dsp limit...... (but i never use the dual amp patch... )
  14. thank you man!!!!! i'll test in studio next week!!!!!! :-)
  15. jp recto rtm sound really good!!!!!!! there is a patch for this? because i have not found on your preset list........... thank you for your job
