  1. To be honest, I'm a back bedroom rock star, I never gig out, just an occasional Jam with a friend. I do some home recording and mostly play rhythm, so, the neck heel isn't really an issue for me. I love to jam to tunes on an itunes playlist and just rock out! I like the JTV because I find it easier to figure out songs by ear when the guitar sounds like the one I hear. The number of tonal options on the JTV is fantastic. As for the heel, I guess its is just a matter of personal preference. If you spend a decent amount of time on the upper frets, I can see where it might feel chunky.
  2. Yes, they are warranteed. However, I just returned them to Guitar Center and they took them back without a problem. I did call Line6 Support and they would have issued call tickets to take them in for repairs, but that means being without a new guitar for a few weeks.
  3. Well, I picked up my third JTV59 yesterday and so far, so good. I couldn't find another Cherryburst I liked, so, this time I went with the Black one. One thing I'll say, is that I have found these guitars to play consistently well, I really like them. The neck is much different than my Old Ibanez RG-440 which was thin and very flat. The profile fits my thumb really well, and I'm able to get some bends and vibrato going that I have not been able to do on other guitars. One other thing about this black beauty is that it is significantly lighter than the two Cherrybursts I had. I don't notice a difference with the sustain or tone though, which I though I might notice due to the difference in wood density. I hope that the electronics stay strong on this one, cause I sure do like it! John
  4. Quick question. I know I can power the guitar via the VDI connected to my POD X3 Live, but, does the guitar's battery charge while connected to a POD? Thanks, John
  5. Well, after the first JTV59 I bought was bricked while doing a firmware update, I returned it to my local Guitar Center. They were kind enough to transfer in two different JTV59's so I could pick the one with the nicest top. That took a week. So, yesterday, back to Guitar Center I went and picked up a new JTV59, and played it last night. Really like the guitar. Tonight however, while practicing, I had the model selector set to SEMI and without any interaction on my part, the models would switch intermittently. Then the three position switch stopped working - it wouldn't switch between various models within the model selection. The three position switch works fine when just switching the magnetic pickups, but not with the models. Doesn't matter if I have VDI or battery (which is full) powering the guitar. I updated the firmware to 1.9, but that did not fix the problem. Neither did rolling it back to 1.82. Tonight I also noticed that there is an audible click when engaging the model selector switch. The click comes from the upper cavity and toggles with the selector switch. Not sure what that means. I'm getting frustrated. I love the way these guitars play and sound, but with this kind of reliability, who would be confident to gig with this? I mean, really, $1,500 and I'm two for two with defective units? (Boy am I glad I didn't spring for the US model) So, I opened up a tech support case and they say that they will get back to me within three business days. Great, that's next week! Anybody have any ideas? Frustrated, John
  6. The GC manager is being very helpful. He's trying to get a couple of JTV-59's from local stores so I can pick from at least two. The figuring on the top of the one I got was very pretty, I'de like one as close to that as possible. Check out the top below. Really nice matched pieces of figuring.
  7. Picked up a JTV-59 at my local Guitar Center Sunday. I brought my POD X3 Live into the store and played for a while before pulling the trigger. I got it home, played for about 5 minutes and then ran Monkey to do a firmware update since the guitar didn't have the latest firmware. Well, the update didn't complete (error 8000900C) and the modeling has not worked since. I tried two different computers and several different USB ports tried different usb and vdi/ethernet cables and cannot get the update to run. LED on model selector stays solid red..... So, I called Line 6. Waited on hold for 40 minutes. Then was told to keep running the update over and over. I said that I already had, that I was familiar with using Monkey and doing firmware updates on that and other devices. Then I asked what the solid red LED meant. After placing me on hold for a few seconds, the support guy told me it was very unlikely going to work and that I had 2 options, return the guitar to Guitar Center for a replacement, or send it to them. I'll have to check with the GC manager tomorrow. I don't think they have one in stock to swap. Hope they are willing and able to bring a new one in for me. Also, I hope the figuring on the top is as pretty as the one I got, I really liked it a lot! The moral is, read the instructions carefully, and do everything right. Unfortunately, that still doesn't eliminate the possibility of bricking the guitar during a firmware upgrade! Bummed out, JP
