  1. Hi Datacommando, No worries. But Thanks for your advice. I have many years in tech. Was an IT systems specialist for many years. I have to learn a lot of this by trial and error, but am glad to report I have a ticket into line6 and have made some progress as well. I will get there. I realize now that every patch will take some kind of modification to work for me. The simple hook up method is not what I will need, and the complicated 7cable method is only mentioned, and shown in a photo. Thanks for the advice. I will seek out Frank Richotte, and hope he is as willing to help me as his reputation that proceeds him indicates. Take care.
  2. Hi Datacommando, I'm not above recognizing it could be user error, that's why I am asking the question on the forum, maybe someone else has been there done that. I have the manuals. I have read them, the specific things I mentioned are not addressed in them, there is a lot of info to be learned, but not what I need. It is a complex unit to program, especially if you want to use it in an effects loop, or in my case a stereo loop. I believe you're right that there is nothing wrong with the unit, it's just that this seems to be a mystery error, one that makes no sense until you finally figure it out, then you got it. Thank you for taking the time to respond. I will continue to pursue the problems one by one until I have figured it out. MLJ
  3. I did both of these, and it seems to work. But, my one question: is this all there is to completely restoring the unit to factory shape? does a guy need to rerun the version update as well? I have a lot of conflicting things happen to this thing (HX FX), and get no answers from support. I get blocks on the unit where the button and scribble strip are, that go from having an effect assigned and showing in them to all the sudden being blank, and I don't know what i did to lose it. It drives me nuts. I have to go back an re-add something in that space an then save it to fix it. Then of course there are the FX that come in with there assigned numbers being one that i already assigned to something else, so if i don't catch that the whole thing starts over again. I love the tones and flexibility, but the factory instructions and support are lacking seriously.
  4. The Ernie ball VP Jr. works excellently as a vol pedal with a regular cable (T/S), and equally as well as an expression with an Insert cable, see attached pdf file . The Ernie ball pedals are built like tanks, are very smooth and will be cheaper, I got my pedals for $85 US each. To each his own, but this is a workable solution, and won't cost what a mission pedal or line 6 costs, and some say the mission pedals feel strange. Just trying to help Good luck. insert cable w pedal.pdf
  5. With my HX FX, I am using a pair of Ernie ball VP JR.'s too, on one I am using an insert cable, tip to the out on the Ernie, ring to the in on the Ernie, the other end, the insert, is on the HX's EXP 2 jack to control FX parameters, only. For FX1, I make that volume, and the only way it would work for me with the 2nd Ernie, was to just use a guitar patch cable (T/S) from the out on the Ernie into the FX1 on the HX just for volume, and it works fine, the only thing is the throw on every pedal is somewhat different, so that is part of figuring out what works for you as well. The throw or travel rate on the Ernie is not exactly perfect, but very usable, the thing is the pedal feels good to me. I am using a stereo guitar amp so I have a slightly altered version of what's called the 7 cable method, a slightly more complex version of the 4 cable method, essentially just another send and return, since I don't have to go to 2 amps inputs. Look around, find a diagram for the 7 cable method using 2 amps, and omit the cable for the input to the 2nd amp for this. Then you have to put inserts and sends in the signal chains in each path to make this work. Took me a week to figure out all the problems, got another week to go to fine tune, but I hope to get there. Hope this helps someone. P.s. I attached a pic of the two amp method, or 7CM, MLJ.
