Great perspective. I agree and will try it. You lost me. The Studio EQ and FX loop both require an available FX block, but the Studio EQ is more resource-intensive than the FX loop (DAC-to-ADC conversion aside). For example, I've been able to drop the FX loop into complex dual-cab tones when it seemed that nothing else would "fit" in terms of available processing power. And ...... isn't the idea to have an FB footswitch assigned, so that you can tap the lead boost on and off as necessary?

Put an FX loop whereever you want it in your tone. Connect the FX loop out to the FX loop in. Set the return +4dB. Assign the FX loop to a switch. Rock on.
  3. Pod HD Pro setup page 7/10 shows, "Variax Control:Preset," "Model:Don't Force," and "Local Control:Unlocked." When I move between tones, the JTV turns off it's modeling and brings the mags online. The desired behavior is for it to leave the currently selected model online, unless a tone calls a specific JTV model. Can I get there from here?
  4. Greetings, for the first time I'm using the Variax cable between my POD HD Pro v2.1 and my JTV-59 v2.0. I would like it very much if my JTV would change models only when explicitly told (whether by the HD Pro tone or the model selector knob), otherwise it should leave the last selected model online as I tap through a tone bank. At the moment, the Variax control is set to "(Don't Force) in all but one of my tones, which forces an acoustic model. My JTV selects the correct model when this particular acoustic tone is called, but when I move on to another tone, the JTV model goes away and the mags come online. I've also found that when I change tones which are programmed to "(Don't Force)", my JTV turns off the model and brings the mags online. How do I keep my JTV from jumping to it's magnetic pickups when I change tones? Thank you --

  6. Here's my acoustic tone that I use with the JTV 2.0 D-28 model (picture and tone attached). It's a dual-tone sound, I kick in the DT Bomber Uber when playing choruses on song's like Cracker's "Low." The amp on/off is mapped to "stomp," and the amp output is mapped to controller A. I use the Bomber Uber and Dimension and delay when playing power chords behind the solo during Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb." Like before, the amp on/off is mapped to "stomp" and the output to controller A. Additionally the Dimension and delay are multi-assigned to "delay." Tap tempo is there too. Note the placement of the Studio EQ relative to the Tube Compressor. Even so, you can see that I've got to keep the level on the comp really low to avoid "warmth," or distortion. The mixer outputs are cranked to 9.5dB for the clean and 5.0dB for the dirty.
  7. Watch where you place the tube comp in the signal chain. I found it really easy to overload it. I think there's definitely some "warmth" aka distortion built into the model, the trick is to find where it begins to rise past acceptable levels.

  9. Something similar is happening to me. Running a POD HD Pro 2.1 and Edit 2.21.0 in online mode. I downloaded an HD500 dual-amp tone: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/208866, sent it through jzab's HD500 -> HD Pro converter. I opened the tone in HD Edit, and even though it sounded great, the amp parameters (master, sag, hum, bias, bias x) were zeroed. I used my mouse to pull one of the amp masters from zero to 100%, then back to zero. As I did this, the tone became louder and more saturated until I hit 100%, and then less intense as I dialed it down -- and by the time I hit zero the tone sounded completely wrong. Through trial and error I was able to determine that the author of the tone had the master set to ~50% when he saved and uploaded the tone. What worked was to re-open the downloaded tone, send it to the POD, and then receive it from the POD. The amp parameters popped to the tone author's settings. I could now perform all operations on the amp parameters and they would behave normally. So in my case maybe jzab's converter did something odd with the tone and maybe not. But the symptoms were close enough to yours that I wanted to share my story.
  10. Greetings, I'm trying to use the Monkey 1.62 to check for updates to my FBV Shortboard MKII, but the black Monkey window hangs with the red bar at ~80%, saying, "Detecting MIDI devices..." It is overlaid by a white window which says, "Searching for all devices..." Even after some time, these windows do not disappear. This is an up-to-date Win7 x64 SP1 system with Line 6 drivers v4.2.5.4 installed for GuitarPort, PODxt and POD HD Pro. The shortboard is connected directly to the computer's USB port. The white Monkey window has a cancel button, but when clicked the button has no visible effect...the black and the white Monkey windows remain. Doing an "end task" on "Line 6 Monkey.exe" in the Task Manager applications tab closes the black and the white Monkey windows. However the processes tab still shows "Line 6 Monkey.exe *32", and there is no visible effect when doing an "end process tree" on "Line 6 Monkey.exe *32" ... which is to say that the process remains. Windows must be restarted to clear the process. Then I tried this... Used the Line 6 Uninstaller to remove all Line 6 software and drivers from the system, rebooted Downloaded the Monkey 1.62 and verified the MD5 checksum, reinstalled the Monkey. Ran the Monkey without any USB devices connected, selected POD HD at the "No Devices Detected" dialog Logged the Monkey into Line 6, downloaded the driver installation program v4.2.5.4 and installed the drivers for GuitarPort, PODxt and POD HD Pro. Connected the shortboard directly to the computer's USB port, waited until Windows said that the USB driver installation was complete. Ran the Monkey and the problem remains. All of this happens also on a Win8 x64 system, with all of the same conditions. What do I need to do to update my FBV Shortboard MKII?
  11. Thank you very much!
  12. Greetings, if I'm running in FS 5-8 mode, how do I change tones within the same bank? IE, I'm using tone 1A in FS 5-8 mode, how do I get to 1B?
  13. Greetings, is there any way to determine if I'm hitting my HD Pro's inputs with enough signal, but not too much? I'm driving it with a Sennheiser G3 572 wireless that can crank out +16dB of signal on the 1/4" output. With my old XT Pro, I'd open up the wireless output until the XT Pro's red LED flickered on only the hardest power chords. This would give me maximum SNR without clipping the XT Pro input. There doesn't seem to be any way to do this with the HD Pro. Am I missing something?
  14. Greetings, I'm about to move up from my trusted PODxt Pro to a new POD HD Pro. It would be keen if I could somehow write my PODxt tones into my POD HD. 1> I could use my old tones while I tweak my new ones into shape, and 2> I could use my old tones as a jumping-off point for creating new ones. Can this be done - writing PODxt tones into a POD HD - and if so will the results be useful as anticipated? THANK YOU -- :)
  15. Greetings, with regards to the registration/updating/licensing process, are there any caveats about buying an open-box or used Pod HD? For example, if I buy a used Pod HD on Craig's List, what things if any could prevent me from installing updates or a possible expansion pack? Is the 12-month warranty transferable, assuming I obtain a copy of the original purchase receipt? Thank you.
  16. Can you point me in the direction of more information regarding this update? Thank you.
  17. Academic discussion of failure rates generally leads to the consensus that a very low percentage is acceptable. When the discussion becomes practical, it rubs a nerve. You guys probably noticed this in the OP: "I'm pretty patient with this kind of thing. As long as everyone's working together." For such an easy repair, if Line 6 had insisted that my guitar be taken to a service center, it would be back on the hanger at GC, and I'd be playing a new Taylor 314 and getting by on my trusty Tele. Believe me, I understand the complexity of the instrument and the likelihood that a sufficient care must be taken to avoid cascade failure. Fortunately for all involved, Line 6 rose to the occasion and directed me through the repair in the comfort of my own living room :)
  18. Greetings - what gauge are the factory strings on the JTV-59? They feel like regular lights, 0.010 - 0.046. Am I correct?
  19. Greetings, I have a PODxt Pro and an FBV Shortboard. Most of my tones are set at 85% minimum volume, and I use the Expression Pedal to sweep to 100% as a lead boost. But if I don't have my Expression Pedal with me, when I stomp in the Wah the volume jumps to 100%. I know there are all kinds of workarounds. I could keep the FBV pedal toe-cocked all the time, but I don't like that because the pedal could get uncocked and I might not notice it until it was too late. I could write a separate set of patches with 100% minimum volume, but I don't want to maintain them. I want to use the same set of tones for when I have an Expression Pedal, and when I don't have one with me. Here's what I want to do: I want to stick a 1/4 plug into the Expression Pedal jack on the FBV, and fake the PODxt Pro into thinking that I've attached an Expression Pedal set on heel-or-toe cocked. Surely this has to be as simple as shorting a resistor across the plug. Before I call Line 6, has anyone else done this? Thanks --
