  1. I'm wondering if I can get some input from some of you as to how you approach recording your guitars in relation to the use of reverb straight from the Helix. I've typically followed the "rule" of recording everything dry and adding reverb later. I like to record multiple guitar parts and then I'll often pan them like I want (keeping them in mono) and then send them to a stereo effects bus that has a stereo reverb plugin from my DAW attached to it. Here's my issue, though ... I've never really found a reverb plugin that I like nearly as much as the simple "Room" reverb that comes with the Helix. In fact, I really don't like listening to those dry Helix tones without that reverb effect. It sounds so limp and lifeless without it. So what do you guys do? Do you ever record your guitar track WITH the reverb? If so, do you then leave your guitar track in stereo to preserve the stereo reverb effect? How does this affect panning, too? For example, if you have a guitar track with stereo reverb, and you pan it left or right, doesn't that effectively mangle your reverb? I'm also assuming that if you record too many guitars, each with its own reverb, it's going to muddy up the mix very quickly. I would appreciate any advice on this. I've seen videos from Jason Sadites where he seems to record WITH some minimal reverb baked in, then he seems to leave the track in stereo and pans left and right, then added another track with the same characteristics. Just not sure what the correct approach here is.

    Clipping DI in

Had the same problem. I went into the driver settings through my DAW, went to the Helix in my Windows sound control panel settings and lowered the levels there. That fixed the clipping issue.
  3. I'm trying to put together a screen capture recording for a friend showing how I'm mixing a song we've been working on across the pond from each other. What I'd like to do is be able to demonstrate the mixing process in my DAW (SONAR Platinum) while recording the audio of what I'm doing with the faders, etc. At the same time, I want to be able to record myself separately talking into a mic explaining what I'm doing and why. I'm using the Helix as my computer's soundcard and my DAW interface, and I've set up a mic into a separate Scarlett interface. My screen capture program (Movavi) can pull from two separate audio sources: "Microphone" and "System Audio". I've set up the "Microphone" input to pick up the mic attached to the Scarlett, and that works fine. The problem comes when trying to pick up audio from my DAW while it's playing. I've set the Helix as the default device in the audio control panel for both playback and recording, and when I play a system sound (Windows 10) on my computer, that shows up on the "System Audio" meter within Movavi. However, when I play my track through my DAW, it doesn't register at all in my screen capture software audio meters. The volume meters also aren't registering at all in the Helix properties within the control panel when I'm playing through my DAW, so whatever the issue here, it doesn't seem related to the Movavi software. I get the feeling I'm just missing something based on a lack of knowledge in this area, but any help would be appreciated. What do I need to do to be able to have what I'm playing through my DAW be picked up and recognized in my screen capture software? Thanks.
  4. Thanks for the help on this. Went ahead and purchased the L2t and am awaiting its arrival. One other question, though. Looking to mount this on a stand. Is there a particular model of PA stand that works best for the L2t, or would any work (as long as it supports the weight)? Strangely having problems finding any specific recommendations on Google. Thanks again.
  5. Recently picked up a Helix and am beginning to step out into the performing world again after being a home studio hermit for a few years. May be playing some solo gigs as well as with a small band I've been working with. I'm interested in thoughts on which of these stagesource models would be my best bet, the L2t or L3t. Looking for something to effectively be my "amp" in the band scenario and my PA for the small solo gigs. Would the extra price be worth it for the L3t based on what I'm looking to do, or is the L2t enough of what I need? Thanks for any info/advice.
