Yeah, my first introduction to L6 was a Toneport UX1, I had some great metal tones coming out of that with very little messing around. Unfortunately I cannot remember which amp models I was using there. Got rid of the UX1 in favor of the 500x so I could play live with it. Great little device though.

Yeah, I hear you on the issue with the tones only sounding as advertised if you have all the same variables in place. I think anyone that has been on this board enough has seen that issue time and time again. I don't think I have found a single tone on custom tone that has sounded good without alot tweaking first... well maybe one or two. Although here is the flip side of that coin, there is a sticky on here that shows how to make particular tones from scratch to sound like particular artist. Obviously the same argument could be made against that on it being useless as well for all the same reasons. Still it is a good educational tool on how to build tones. All I am saying is that a demo video of the new tones would give a lot of people a good clue as to what CAN be done with the new models, or even what they were intended to sound like. Not everyone knows what a Shiva is supposed to sound like ya know? Which does bring up one other question since I got all the L6 guys in this thread. The L6 specific models in the metal pack like Insane.. are they modeled after something specific or it just L6's attempt at coming up with their own something awesome?

lol, I know. Just messin with ya. Still I am the kind that I like to read plenty of feedback and reviews on something before I get it. I prefer to go into a purchase with my expectations set correctly so I know what I should be able to get out of it. Like I've said in other posts on here, I think the range of models that exist in the 500x is already great but there might be something even better in this new pack. The other issue is, for me, 30 days might not be enough time to really dig into it... babies, 2 of them tend to suck away time very quickly! Anyway, I think everyone would agree that a quick demo of the models would be at least nice to see.

Look at you being the salesman! No wonder they put that expert in your title ;) . Yes I sure could do that and I probably will but I am still a relative newbie when it comes to making tones and it's very helpful to see demos from people that know what they are doing to show us what these models can sound like with some knowledge and tweaking.

I know it hasn't even been 24 hours yet since the release of the new model packs and FW but I know there are plenty of skeptics out there like me that are wondering if the new model packs are really worth the money so I am putting out the call for some demos / vids of some of the new models (particularly the stuff in the metal pack... nudge nudge, wink wink). I am sure the community here would love to see some of these and hey L6... I'm sure it'll bring ya some more sales too if those packs are that rockin!
-
Woot! Time to rush home and get the FW all set up. I would love to see some feedback on the high gain models if anyone has any yet.
-
Agreed. I'm waiting with baited breath for the firmware update but I am going to wait and see what everyone complains about with the model packs before a dump a bill on them. I mean the stuff in there already is pretty darn good. I don't see new model packs being the light of God shining down from the heavens on those who havn't been able to get a good tone out of the POD yet.

Hey guys, been some experimentation with outputs and I noticed that the XLRs for my 500x are way quieter than my normal unbalanced 1/4" ones. Is this normal? I was really wanting to use my XLRs out to my new speakers but I'm having to roughly double the output from my pod to equal the volume with my 1/4" outs. Nothing too horrible but I was really wanting to get to the needed volume with the most headroom available. I have noticed some unwanted static in my 1/4" outs (not sure if it's the cable) my XLRs are clean though.

Watch, that'll be the next big thing.... "Knee Pit Buds! For those of you who are just too lazy to elevate your amp! All that great ear sound in a sweat proof package!" :P So at the recommendation of another thread on here, I went ahead and ordered 1 Alto TS110a 600 watts should be plenty to do what I need especially if I end up liking it then I'm going to get a 2nd one and run stereo with dual amp models. It shows up today, here's hoping!

lol its all good man, as long as we gets some answers... I need answers! *grin*

Yeah it looks like you are thinking more along the same lines that I am Radatats. The L6 and the QSC are the only good setups I was aware of from scouring other boards. I didn't even think about keyboard amps. They might be the way for me to go since I just need to be heard loud and clear in the mix in my band room. When it comes to gigs I am sure I will be mic'd. Still some of those combos you came up with look truly tasty. It would certainly be nice to have 2 speaker cabs running out with XLR inputs so I can make the most of the stereo options from the POD. I am very curious to see how this list gets widdled down. I am also a little on the skeptical side as you are about the power of some of these smaller speaker cabs though. Can they really deliver or am I just still such a child of the 80's that if it doesn't break my back carrying it, it's not going to be loud enough...
-
Yes definitely you are getting what you pay for which is why I am not too worried about the cost because I want to make sure I get what I need. The k10 and the Stage source are just two options I saw. Are there any other FRFRs that people are using that are great? Is the Stage source loud/ clean enough to use as a rehearsal solution?
-
Ok, so I unfortunately did not do my homework before buying my 500x and wanted to use it with my Marshall 4x12 cab. The tones that I was getting out of it were acceptable until I ran it through a PA tonight. The 500x was miraculous and had an awe inspiring sound run in direct mode through XLR into the PA. So, I have seen the light and am now looking for a real FRFR setup and am in need of suggestions from other FRFR users out there. Immediately two options jump out the QSC K10 or the L6 Stage Source series. If anyone could help with some real world feedback on these or other models that would be great.
-
That is true, you do get what you pay for. What bout the g50? Is it the same way? I can't go for rack mount system because it needs to attach to my pod 500x.
-
Yeah that's what I was afraid y'all were gonna say. I live about 1.5 hrs away from the nearest dealer. I honestly think that is the most retarded thing I have heard in my life. Sell a digital item with upgradeable firmware that you can only upgrade if you have another $500 unit. I think that is literally the first device that I am aware of that functions like that. Poor thought process on this one, I will be looking elsewhere for my wireless device then.
-
Hi guys, I am shopping around for a wireless system and am a big L6 fan but as I have been browsing through the posts here I am seeing a disturbing issue with the g30s. It appears that the firmware you get with it is what you are stuck with unless you have an XD-V75 as well which I most certainly wouldn't.. I'm a guitar player. So am I correct in assuming that if I get one with the wrong firmware installed (which I am reading happens a decent amount) or if L6 puts out another update for it I have to send it in to get it updated?

Thank a ton guys, all of you. This is a bunch of great information and now, with Radatats last post I thinking of a second cab instead of replacing an power amp that can still do the job. David, I will check that switch as soon as I can, I am pretty certain it is set to line level there. So then if I had to turn the amp up to 75% at 150w to get loud enough before at 500w I should turn that thing down to around the 10-15% range to begin testing volume with the Master knob down as David suggested. Does that sound about right? Watching for the limiters and staying away from yellow as Radatats suggested. And if I ever decided to go with a second cab then I would just add the cab and switch it back from bridged to stereo correct? Seriously I really do thank you Palico, David and Radatats for taking the time to help educate me a bit here. Knowing what to pick to power what and what you can get away with without destroying your stuff is certainly can be confusing stuff.
-
Thanks for checking out that stuff for me man. I won't lie, running 500 watts into a 120 watt cab scares me. So u are thinking I should leave my patch levels alone, leave the pos master volume maxed, bridge the amp and turn it way down and slowly notch it up until I get to my volume without hitting red or yellow lights on the amp. Sound about right?
-
ok I don't know why but for some reason the little modal that comes up for linking stuff keeps freezing when I try to link stuff... anyway at sweetwater.com search for Behringer i nuke NU1000 and Marshall MG412A cabinet 120w 8 ohm mono cab. So I should be ok Bridging my inuke with that cab? That's what I am running for my setup. That read on Crown's website needs to be stickied here!
-
Well that certainly makes sense. So in any situation I should try to get a setup where my power amp stays below 50% ish and never go more than double the total wattage of the speakers to be powered if I want clean power going to the speakers without blowing them. I've never been told this before however knowing what I have learned lately about power amp distortion it certainly does make sense. Is there anyway to know the danger line as you are turning up though? Is there a meter or anything that can be put inline that will monitor the RMS level of the signal heading to the speakers? The inuke that I have can bridge but when bridged at 8 ohms the wattage is 500. I assume that is way to high above the level of what should be even tried if I want to remain safe.
-
Hmmm, ok that is nice to know about the head. I was always told that it is best to keep the power amp as close to the rating of the speakers it is driving.
-
Ok thanks guys, I will certainly adjust those up and see where that gets me. So the channel volume doesn't add distortion at all? I could have sworn I ran into a model where it I had that raised pretty high and it was horrible until I turned that down. ehh, might be my memory going too lol. Besides volume.. if I cranked both the channel and the mixer to max can I expect any adverse effects at all? Swapping out the power amp isn't really an option at his point I don't think. My cab is 120w and the Inuke is 150w. I don't think a more powerful setup will be in my future for a little while yet.. so I gotta make this work as best as possible. Worst case scenario I turn it down and mic the cab but I would like to make it work this way without having to do that yet.

So I took my 500x out for a live audition with a band over the weekend and have come back with some issues that I need a little bit of help with. First off I know all about the issues of how the tone changes at higher volumes and that any final tweaking will need to be done at gig levels. What I am in need of knowing is how to crank up the volume from my gear while getting the least amount of added distortion from my gear. Currently I am using the 500x with the mixer levels set typically to 0, the amp model channel volume is variable but I try to keep it relatively low and the main volume knob at full. This runs into my Behringer iNuke which ended up needing to be cranked up to about 75% in order to get loud enough. I am concerned that with my power amp cranked that high that I am going to be introducing unintended power amp distortion so my thought was to crank up the levels inside the pod so I could decrease the output of my power amp. So my questions are this... 1) Am I right in my thinking that I could be introducing unwanted distortion from my power amp. 2) What are the best places to crank things up within the patch that wont introduce unwanted distortion? The four places that I can think of are the channel volume, mixer levels, main volume knob and the power amp level. Which of these four places can be safely adjusted without adding anymore distortion? Oh and btw, I won the audition.. now I just have to tame this beast for live stage use.

Awesome thanks for that list guys. Very useful!

Actually one last question... are studio EQ's stereo effects? The patch I am using has 2 studio EQ's after the amp. If what Joel_Brown said is true, then if those EQ's are stereo also I wont have to chew up double the blocks to eq both channels.
