  1. So I got it set up and yeah I am seeing what you guys are saying. It sounds awesome when I am playing through my headphones but listening to it recorded back it just doesn't have the same feel. So even though I know how to do it... yeah I'll probably just play it twice when recording. I used the dual amp with the 20ms delay in one channel approach. The pitch glide way caused some odd phasing for me. Cool as hell effect if that's what I wanted but not this time. Thanks a ton for all the responses guys.
  2. Ok I understand all of that. Makes perfect sense. All except for the part about recording the outputs as dual mono instead of stereo. Once again I understand why but is that easily done in Reaper? Is it just a check box in the device properties box? Like I said sorry, newb here when it comes to this kind of a setup
  3. I am beginning to set up my pod for home recording this weekend and have been reading a lot on people double tracking guitars to get a thick metal feel which is exactly what I want for my recordings. Is there a way to set up the 500x for simultaneous double tracking or am I forever cursed to play the rhythm parts twice all the time? No big deal if I have to... hell it's good practice but it would be nice ya know. Quick run down, I have a 500x a presonus audio box (not currently being used) and Reaper as my DAW.
  4. So I am getting ready to embark on this same mission here as I am going to be audition for a new band for the first time with this POD. I get what all of you have been saying with testing everything out at gig volume so I will be doing that in the next few days, my question is what is the best way to have the Master volume, mixer levels and power amp level set for gig levels? Right now the Master level is cranked to 100% always for all applications (I can't remember where I read that it should be set that way but it's been that way for a long time) my mixer levels are at +4 and I am using my power amp levels for my overall volume adjustments. Is this fine or should I back off the main volume and compensate by boosting something else? Does it matter?
  5. Thanks a ton for all the good suggestions here guys I will try them all out and see what gets the closest. Musical1212, yes the Master of Puppets solo is very close to that sound... I must have missed that patch when I was going through the pod originally. I'll get back with you all and let you know what had the best effect. Thanks again all!
  6. Hey guys, I am trying to get a particular sound out of the smart harmony, the kind of sound common in Bullet for my Valentine songs and Avenged Sevenfold. You can hear an example in Bat Country in Synester's solo around the 2:50 mark. My issue I guess is with everything in the settings. Where is the best place to put this at in the chain and what kind of harmony is that? They usually play in drop D tuning. I've going through all of them one at a time but am not having much luck. Any help or pushes in the right direction would help out a ton guys. Thanks!
  7. lol, I have three different guitars that I use for various tunings. I bought all three with the same exact pickups and body woods to make sure my main tone would sound identical across them all. I'm sure one day I will upgrade my speaker cabs and I dread all the tweaking I am sure I'll have to do whenever that happens. Especially since I am not the best at identifying what frequency is responsible for what I am not liking in a tone.
  8. Yeah, I know. Such a pain in the lollipop there but it's worth it for the flexability. I've got 3 different banks of identical patches setup names Practice, Live and recording already set up with that in mind so I don't have to keep messing with stuff I already have dialed in. And Pianoguyy.. your signature, YES... oh man that would be so nice to have
  9. Thanks guys, I will download those and check them out. I appreciate it.
  10. This tone I have is great all except for a bit of mid range that I am having trouble dialing out. I was hoping that the analyzer might help me narrow down the offending band. Plus, I am really curious on what the signal looks like since I have read that if there are too many spikes all over the signal then it won't sound too well in a mix with others. I guess I am looking for yet another way to fine tune before I go live to try and minimize time tweaking at stage level volume.
  11. Yeah this is what I have run into myself mostly. I have had some success getting a patch or two dialed in pretty well (not perfect.. yet). I was just hoping that someone had some good ones to use as jumping off points. Anyway, here is something else I was thinking of trying after reading Meambobo's guide for 100th time and seeing that I have the means. I would like to get some of these tones on a frequency analyzer to see where the problem spots are. Since these are live tones I can't just record them via the pod cuz the sound will be radically different. So my plan is to use a Presonus interface with a SM57 that I have lying around to mic my cab and get a recording of it that way to analyze. So what's going to be the best way to mic that cab to get the true sound coming out of it? Has anyone done this before and have any tips for me? Is there a better way?
  12. I've been looking for a metal tone for my rig. Something along the lines of Bullet for my Valentine. I keep finding tones of awesome tones but they all seem to be geared for recording only. Does anyone have some links to tones made for playing out they can share? I don't play plugged into a PA either, just right into a power amp and out through a 1/2 stack. Thanks a ton guys.
  13. Thanks for the replies guys. I will certainly look into uping the impedance and see what happens there. As far as the pickups, All are EMG 81/85 except for the guitar in questions. It uses an 81 in the bridge and a sustaniac in the neck. The actual guitar is a Schecter Hellraiser C-1 if anyone cared to look for anything else that could be an issue on the guitar end of things.
  14. Hey guys quick question about how effects and EQs can negatively effect pinch harmonics. I have 3 almost identical guitars. All 3 of them I can get great harmonics outside of my 500x. On two of them I can get those same Harmonics with the 500x, one of them they sound super dead and I have a super hard time even getting them. Could there be something in the tone setup that could be effecting just this one guitar?
  15. Yeah I guess I should have elaborated a bit on that... my POD is running into a transparent Behinger iNuke power amp (no coloring of the sound from the POD) which powers a 4x12 Marshall cab. I'll have to look at what settings the output on the POD is set to. I know it is not set what you would think it should be set to for running into this kind of setup. Still whatever the output is set to since part of my tone is coming from those Celestians chances of me getting a perfect match without doing a bunch of tweaking and creating a new patch is slim to none eh?
  16. Hey guys, been a bit since I have posted on here. I've been away having a blast with my setup. I was able to dial in a great tone that I love that work perfect for my rig but now I am thinking about trying to do some recording and I have a few questions about it. 1) What is the easiest way (if there is one at all) to convert over so that the tone I have now is recorded into the pc? I assume that I am not going to be lucky enough to just plug into the pc and get the exact same sound. I'm aware that this might be a process of tweaking and tweaking until I get it like setting up my initial sound but any pointers would be great. 2) What, in your guys experience, has been the best DAW to work with for the HD 500x? I've downloaded Reaper and plan to try that out in the next few days. I'm kind of a dinosaur when it comes to digital recording. I haven't done it in about 6 or 7 years and at that time I was using Acid. Thanks for your time guys.
  17. So I am posting this hoping that someone might share some knowledge or a link on how to get a nice warm wah sound from the 500x. I know the pedal is calibrated correctly but whenever I try to set one up, I end up with something that sounds pretty harsh. I am trying to achieve a wah sound that is reminiscent to Alice In Chains on Face lift. Particularly "It Aint Like That". Thanks
  18. Yeah, I saw a pair of Alesis studio monitors that were very similar to those Behringers I linked before. I'm sure those would do awesome as well, just a bit pricier I think.
  19. Can't use? That's kind of vague man. Can you be more specific?
  20. PODs do great through a computer and I have had good results running through the USB and using an Altec Lansing speaker system. These work well but I didn't get them with anything like the POD in mind. If you looking for something compact, I was told that the speakers in the link below work rather well and I have seen them in the background on several POD tone demos as well. http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-BEH-MS20-LIST?src=Y0802G00SRCHCAPN&gclid=CJ6im9Gd8L0CFchFMgod5QgA1w
  21. Absolutely. I went from a UX1 to a 500x. With the UX1 the tones were very plug and play so I expected the 500x to be the same way... wrong. Anyway, I have been working with it literally everyday since I got it a little more than a month ago. I DL'd tons of patches to just as Crusin said, seeing how others set their chains up but honestly the only thing that really helped was reading the Meambobbo guide cover to cover (linked below), watching tons of videos on how to make them and just playing with it. Once you get used to the pod, one other thing that you can do if you are trying to replicate a particular sound is to research the guitarists rig. There's some other links below to some websites that have a pretty good list of them. So, good luck, keep at it and your time will pay off! 22. I ran into this same issue with my 500x when I was first setting it up. According to the guys here and my own experience, the FX loops is just noisy. The only way I was able to tame it was to put a gate after the loop but that killed my sustain too much so now I don't use the FX loop at all. Kind of sux.
  23. I have finally succeeded in making my perfect tone!... It's ALIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!! It's ALIIIIVE MUhahaUAHAhAhah! *cough* anyways.... I'd like to thank those of you that helped me with all the questions I posted up here trying to figure this frustrating yet wonderful 500x, I really do appreciate it. So this is what I ended up with, a very heavy, brutal sounding rhythm with just right the right amount of chunk that is designed for being played out live... and loud. I just uploaded this puppy to Custom Tone under the same name as this thread but since custom tone sucks, I will tell you all the info that it doesn't in case someone wants to replicate this thing. **Guitar** - Active EMG 81/85 - Set on bridge pickup **Amp** - Transparent Live power Amp (not a standard guitar amp head. If you want to try it with a normal amp head, you should probably turn all your knobs to noon so you don't color the tone too much) - 4x12 Celestions **POD** - Output = Stack Pwr Amp - Master Knob = 100% - Guitar In = Normal - XLR = Ground - 1/4" out = Line - Input 1 = Guitar (no way!) - Input 2 = Variax - Guitar In-Z = Auto - Input Setup = Preset **Tone** http://line6.com/customtone/browse/podhd500x/28/ So just a few quick notes on this... 1) It is designed to play loud. With my power amp at about 60% I almost overpower my drummer. I made it this way though because I did not want any distortion originating from my amp head. This is also why the Path B for the Mixer is up a few db 2) To those of who are new to PODs, you're going to look at the signal chain and see the amp in Path B but nothing in Path A, so why did I split the chain at all? Am I retarded? Well yeah, but that's besides the point. I read on a post in here a bit ago that, for some reason, if you set the amp chain up like this you will get more distortion out of your tone, well he was certainly right. So that's it. I wish I could make a recording of it but seeing as it would sound completely different running into a pc, you'll just have to check it out to see what it sounds like. Unless someone can tell me how to route my mic input only to the pc and the guitar input only to my cab I think I've covered all the possible variables that could cause you to get a different sound then I intended.
  24. Yeah, you would certainly think that as it completely makes sense. But, after reading the POD guide from Meambobbo and going through them all, the full versions definitely give a much fuller tone. I am almost done with a pretty wicked tone (at least in my opinion) Once I am finished with it, I'm going to post it up here with all setting that I've used. There, unfortunately, seems to be a severe lack of tones out there developed for how I am using the POD. So far it's pretty brutal and melodic sounding, just gotta solve some feedback/ noise issues with it.
  25. So maybe the difference comes into play when using guitar amp head vs. Live power amps but check out the link below. I am using a live power amp to run my cab since I didn't want anything to mess with the tone coming out of the POD. http://www.crownaudio.com/how_much_power.htm
