    Two points...

Make sure you know where the selector position is when you pull it off. When dismembering - ah I mean disassembling mine for any inside work, I choose Custom position 1, so I can be sure to put it back in the right position. Initially, I was unaware of this dilemma, until realising that the model I was hearing wasn't the model I was reading on the dial. Trial and error figured out where it was supposed to be.....

It definitely needs to be pressed firmly down - don't break it though! It may simply be that the black plastic extension which enables it to stop at Custom 1 or Custom 2, is hitting the part on the PCB which is meant to stop it from turning, thus stopping it from going all the way home on the shaft.

Look after point 1, and point 2 shouldn't occur.
  3. eenymason's post in One of my vaxes has irregular VDI connection - ideas? was marked as the answer
I THINK I've fixed it. Saturday's gig will be the big test...

I had replaced the jack plate assemblies on both vaxplants with the new JTV assembies complete with spring loaded VDI cover. I took the VDI connection out of one of the old ones and replaced the newer one. Voila - problem gone.
Maybe just re-seating connections did it, not sure, but I'd sure be disappointed if the newer VDI connection was lesser quality than the original one.....

To the best of my knowledge, the HD500 acts as the computer's soundcard, when connected via USB. You'll need to connect speakers or head/earphones via headphone output from the HD500 and monitor sounds from there. This is so that when you're recording direct to computer using the HD500, you will have minimal latency.

Sorry for delayed response - no internet for a while in another house.

I already tried different cables, no change.

I finally got it to work though - in workbench it kept giving me two connections - one for the HD500 and one for a variax 300/600. I kept ignoring the HD500 connection, and clicked the variax each time - no dice. Then I clicked on the HD500, and then the variax and it finally played ball for me. Dunno what that was about, but anyways.... we have liftoff.
Having installed the graphtech ghost saddles I had to reduce the individual string volumes to .70 (70%) and they output pretty much the same as the 600 I also use.

Thanks to all for chipping in....
Quizzed the ebayer whether they were an "authorised reseller" after quoting the Line 6 site on buying from ebay...
    Reply:
"That policy does not apply to international sales."

Soooooo, what WOULD it be referring too then?!?!?!

Quizzed the local line 6 service centre if they would cover a unit bought via ebay from the good ol USofA...

"Hi Ian. Unfortunately the warranty is limited to the country from where it was purchased. "

Thanks to StephenSLR for the local cheaper price link!

The stupid thing is my current pod has been ticking along just nicely thank you for several years now without so much as a glitch, so the idea of buying one as a backup and it just sitting in it's box for years not being used, regardless of warranty coverage.....
