bmancini42
You know, what I'd really like to do, rather than have 4 buttons access patches, 2 buttons access bank, and 4 buttons do various switches, is have more direct patch access. Is this possible with the HD500?
pfsmith0
It is my understanding you can use a MIDI foot controller to send MIDI commands to the HD500 to do the bank switching, Then you would have 8 buttons for direct patch access.
bmancini42
Sure, I guess that would work, although I wouldn't want to carry around two foot controllers. What about the HD500 itself? I understand you can program it to send MIDI CCs and etc, can you also have it send MIDI PCs to itself, etc. or does that only work with external devices? Rewolf48
I haven't tried it 'cause I am at work but you could connect MIDI Out/Through to MIDI In. - Make sure that it is in Out mode in global settings to avoid a MIDI feedback loop. Then program the footswitches to do Program Change. The foot switch press will sent the Program Change, which will be received and then change the HD500 Patch, at this point the HD500 will automatically send the same Program Change message because it does this automatically and then receive it and if you are lucky ignore it because it is the current Patch. If you are unlucky it will change Patch again, and then send the Patch Change, and change Patch and then send Patch Change.... basically go into a Patch change loop. Pull the MIDI cable to break it. The other really tedious part of this is that the MIDI assignments are specific to a Patch, so you would have to set them up the same in all of the Patches.
bmancini42
That sounds like it might work. I haven't got an HD500 yet, I am probably getting one this weekend, I will have to try that out when I do.
bmancini42
Worked like a champ, thanks.
Rewolf48
Great - I didn't get a chance to try it myself as I am too busy learning some keyboard parts.
Xergoth
please elaborate. when I do this, the looper function activates too when the looper button is pressed (I don't want that)
Rewolf48
I guess that the Looper mode is a problem as it will also do a mode change (again haven't tried it as I am at the day job), but it should work for Bank Up and Down, the 8 FS and Tap, which is 11 switches. Not everything on the HD units is quite as logical as it could be.
