Will POD HD500x work with head and cab?

Will the POD HD 500x sound great with an amp head and a 4x12 cab?

I'm thinking of buying a used England made Marshall 4x12 cab and a head like for example a crate or something used.

Spending anywhere from 5-700$. I was recommended to get a monitor speaker for the pod but I like the punch of the 4x12 cabs. Will the POD sound killer through an amp head and a cab or will it sound bad? I've read some about how certain set-ups make the POD sound terrible...

Thanks for the help!

To be honest with you a lot of the "will it sound good" questions are tough. My opinions and personal preference may not be the same flavor you prefer.

That said, for me it will sound great. I like the power amp/cab combo myself and with a tube power amp it can get even better - to me. Others like a FRFR setup be it PA, keyboard amp etc. None are right or wrong just preference.

You will have to put some time in with it and read the manual to get the most rewards. These forums have a wealth of info and The HD Bible: http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/

IMO anything can sound bad. The HD is extremely versatile and has some deep editing options which can put some people off. True your fave Angus or Eddie tone will be a challange to dial in at first but with experience you will be able to get some really awesome tones.

Oh the Controversial subject of Amp and Cab and Cabs and Amps, lol. You can get them to sound good you just need to be willing to get it all tuned in. Just heads a up though, IMO Speaker cabs are particular to environment/venue which is why there are so many different kinds.

As has already been stated, sounds good is subjective. However; yes it can be used with a head and cab and many have found that to be good. Partiuclarly using the 4 cable method so that you can use(or not depending on what you perfer) the heads preamp.

It will sound very good. But you will need to set the outputs correctly depending if you are running into the power amp (effects return) or the front end of the amp. Also use the preamp only models if you are running it into the amp. Also make sure you turn of speaker sims, yes even on the preamp only models, the speaker sims are enabled by default, so turn those off.

When I had the pod hd pro x, I ran it into the effects return of my Mesa head and rig. Of course turned any cab sim off. It sounded great! Just couldn't get past the delay when switching patches, so I went with another real expensive black box that rhymes with Hacks FX. Two totally different units, I'm not even going to go there. But for the under $1000 price tag, nothing on the market is better than the POD HD series and their wireless units!

Yes it can sound good.  Seems like people who use real guitar cabs typically reduce the low frequencies in their patch.  Usually adjusting the Low Cut parameter under Cab Parameters to around 150 or so.  Not saying you need to do this but if it sounds boomy or muddy you may want to try it.
