Sonar Platinum low guitar gain

I cannot get gain into Sonar. I can make a recording, but it hardly shows on the track view and I cannot get it to move anymore than a quater up the I/P meter. I think I should be able to get it to hit the red if I want??

Are you trying to record the wet, dry, or both?

 

If you have the POD Studio with the plug-in, it is common to record both wet and dry then add the plug-in to the dry post processing.

 

The dry track typically looks very weak, as it should, this allows for headroom when adding plug-ins.

 

Are you using POD Farm standalone during recording?

I am using gearbox.

I can get just enough gain if I use a wet, say heavy distortion I/P.

I think I understand what you are saying, but if  I use a dry signal to record, Sonar shows hardly any waveform in its track view.

Is this correct?

What about the signal to noise ratio?

So is this an older red-faced Toneport and you have no plug-in license?

 

To get more wet signal turn down you what your are monitoring with and turn up the channel volume of the amp sim.

 

Also, if this is an older Toneport, POD Farm 1.12 replaces Gearbox.

What do you mean by a plugin licence? I can plug it into Sonar.

Do you think if I upgrade to POD farm would solve all my problems?

There is the standalone version and the plug-in version.

The standalone version you launch from the desktop, the plug-in you launch from with in your DAW as VST plug-in.

Prior to the release of POD Farm you could purchase a Gearbox plug-in license, after the release of POD Farm you could purchase a POD Farm plug-in license.

The newer POD Studio UX comes with POD Farm 2.5 standalone and a hardware enabled plug-in license.

My guess is you likely did not purchase a separate license, but that's besides the point.

 

You can upgrade to POD Farm 1.12 for free, but standalone only.

So to get a stronger signal, first make sure you are sending the processed signal to your DAW, there are 4 sends, this can be configured in the Mixer View.

There are sliders for the each pair of sends, and there is also a +18dB boost, I would use that if you cannot get good levels with the channel volume of the amp sim.

 

If you purchased this new, do you remember what year?

OK I have managed to get more gain in gearbox by clicking the 18db button. You are correct I cannot do any post processing

I have also downloaded Podfarm 2.57 as a demo. (is there any point going to 1.12)

If I am reading you correctly I can use 2.57 as a standalone and a plugin, if I buy the correct licenses?

Gearbox is not supported, so PF 1.12 is a direct free replacement.

 

Yes, if you purchase the license for PF 2.5 you can use it as a standalone, and plug-in, and even other ASIO USB interfaces.

 

You can also use the demo as a plug-in without paying.

 

If you do purchase, make sure you get the Hardware Independent version, which you can return within 30 days if it doesn't work out or you don't like it.

 

Do NOT get the i-Lok version, it has no refund policy, and is plug-in only.

(Unless of course you already have an i-Lok and want to go the plug-in only route)

I have installed PF 2.5 and I am curently getting to Know it.
