Is the TRS line out on a Spider IV TRS balanced, or TRS stereo?

Recommended Posts

Is the TRS line out on a Spider IV TRS balanced, or TRS stereo? Doesn't seem to say anywhere.

And WHY can't you use a non-TRS cable?? Seems kinds strange.

Supplementary question: if it's TRS stero, I have a 200W PA speaker with TRS balanced input. What would happen if I just run a TRS cable from the Spider IV to the PA speaker?

It is stereo.  If you use a TS-TS cable, then you will only get one half the signal.  If you are not running any of the stereo FX, then the left and right channel are the same, so you won't miss any part of the sound, but the output signal's volume will be lower overall (I've tried it).  If you run a TRS cable to a balanced input no harm will come, but you will still only get one side of the stereo signal and will not be providing a balance signal to the PA speaker.

Noise floor.

Ground loops are possible,...

depending on what else is in the signal path

and how it's plugged in,
