joemish Posted August 19, 2013 Share Posted August 19, 2013 I have a PODxt live foot pedal, and I have tried using the Line 6 Comp to try and get a volume boost for my leads, but it just isn't loud enough. It works really well when I run the LIne 6 through my amp's effect loops, but then all my modulation don't sound very good, so I have to run it through the front of my head. I was wondering if the Boost+ EQ would help if I crank the gain on it without adding more distortion to my sound. Or if I should use either the Blue Comp or the Red Comp for a boost. I really don't want to add a volume boost pedal if there is a solution on my line 6. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated, thanks. Johjamkep Posted March 24, 2014 Share Posted March 24, 2014 So what did you figure out on this? I recently got a POD HD500X and am wondering the exact same thing. All I want is an easily switchable way to boost myself strictly for lead parts but I notice the "boost comp" just increases distortion. joemish Posted March 24, 2014 Author Share Posted March 24, 2014 I have always bypassed the amp modeling and relied on whatever head I was using for my gain, so the AMP modeling when bypassed allows you to use the Line 6 Compressor, and if you set the Threshold at 0, you can crank the gain on it to give you a cleaner volume boost. I had done that before, and I had two channels set up, one for rhythm and one for lead, but it never worked until I ran it through the effects loop. Once I did that, the Comp started working a little too well, I had to turn it down, and the Amp Bypass Channel Volume is more noticeable as well. Besides above comments, if there is a volume pedal (not an owner of your product) use that at the end of chain, setting min and max volume... The compressor trick above works great, joemish. If you have an expression pedal kicking around with a min vol knob, patch it in last or put after pod (they make stereo ones too...) I also use a MXR 10 band stomp eq for room adjustment, in an fx loop just after amp (or what ever you get gain from, and tweak the thing for more volume and a touch more "cut" be careful there as not to increase gain and you should be good... JTSC777 Posted April 26, 2015 Share Posted April 26, 2015 I run the gain structures of my HD500 patches like I would a real amp.As an example I will use a Marshall amp slightly overdriven for a base tone .Then I have two upper footswitches assigned to a pedal.One is a Tube Driver.The other is usually a Fuzz of some kind.I use them for lead boosts along with the volume knob on my guitars.Gives me three levels within each patch. Much like a Jekyll and Hyde pedal into a tube amp works. I do this with every patch on all my processors Line 6/ Boss/Zoom etc... Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
