BPM Settings - Note value vs milliseconds

Question is if I have transistor delay set to .1/8 and vintage set to 1/4 note, can I have a different BPM assigned to each? Or, is this option only available if I have each delay set to milliseconds?

We all know what global means and what a snapshot is, my brain freeze is on the "per preset" definition and the note value versus milliseconds.

I believe the answer is in the last paragraph but thought someone might have an opinion for the group....

From the manual....

Knob 5 Tempo Select The “Speed†or “Time†parameters of all tempo-based FX can be set to a note value that follows Tap Tempo or the tempo set with Knob 6 (Snapshot BPM/Preset BPM/Global BPM).

Choose whether the Helix tempo is stored and recalled with each snapshot, recalled with each preset, or is applied globally across all presets and snapshots. 6 Snapshot BPM/Preset BPM/Global BPM

This is an alternative way to set the Helix tempo, as opposed to stepping repeatedly on the TAP footswitch. Depending on the Knob 5 (Tempo Select) setting, this value is saved per snapshot, per preset, or globally. The Helix device's tempo has a resolution of 0.1 BPM (beats per minute). You can also quickly access this parameter at any time by briefly touching the TAP footswitch.

Time Adjusts the delay/repeat time, with higher settings providing longer delays. Press the knob to toggle between ms and note values. Choosing a ms value provides a specific time in milliseconds; choosing a Note Division value provides a time based on the current tempo. With a note division value, this parameter’s value is retained when changing models.    This being same delays or different delays.. ..

If you always have one delay on and the other off, using snapshots and note division, or milliseconds, would achieve what you want by setting the global 'Tempo Select' to per snapshot. Set up each snapshot appropriately, with one delay off, one on, and the desired BPM for each snapshot.

If both delays are going to be on at the same time, using millisecond values and one BPM value would be the only way that I can see. Or another way to say it is you can't have a separate BPM for each delay block if they are both on at the same time, so you're restricted to using milliseconds. The 'Tempo Select' global setting wouldn't matter in this case.

Hopefully I didn't misunderstand what you're trying to do.

Yeah, but there are limits to what you can do. Like if you want one at 1/4 notes and the other slightly longer, like doubled kind of, no can do AFAIK. You can do cool polyrhythmic stuff with different beat values, but not that.

Bottom line is there is only one tempo to sync to. So if you wanted one delay at 1/4 notes at 120bpm and another for a different song at 1.4 notes at 135bpm, you can not do that. For that kind of thing, you'll need ms values, but then you can't tap the tempo in if you need to change it.

Hope that helps.

Good discussion, appreciate the feedback. This is interesting for anyone following this conversation.

Per snap shot does solve my challenge as well, I use the snaps with different gain stages so multiple snaps for any given song. I need to consolidate this method, that's part of what makes Helix the musicians dream pedal board.

I'm probably misreading you Peter, but if you meant both are 1/4 notes but at different tempos, you can use the same setting, even the same snapshot of the same preset, and tap in the tempo before the song starts.

Sure, you can do it that way.

Or, have the tempo be stored per patch, then you could have one patch at 120bpm and the next one could be identical at 135bpm.

There are different ways to do this.
