roscoe5
Hello Spider Valve natives. I've been using a Spider Valve MKii HD100 for a year with Helix and loving it. I recently picked up a NOS SV 112 MKii from a music store off of eBay for an easy and portable rig. After i play for a while it does this hissy static thing for a second the a pop, then back to normal. It will repeat a few times, then not do it for 5-10 mins, but then do it again. I am only using the SV 112 power amp in with Helix full amp models, just like I do my SV HD100. I've had a lot of tube amps over the years and have never heard this from tubes. Do you guys think it's a tube issue or something internal? Since it's NOS, it may be under warranty. But i hate to send it in if it's just tubes. Any thoughts or experience appreciated. BillBee
If you don't know how many hours are on the tubes that is usually the first thing to check. Tubes and a bias set.
Atrain_dlp
I will add that the SV I picked up was hardly used at all so not sure if the age of the tubes plays a factor. The first thing I did was pull the tubes and sprayed the contacts with deoxit just to make sure it wasn't oxidation from sitting causing the issue. It didn't resolve the issue for me but worth a try before you spend $100 on new tubes.
roscoe5
Great. Thanks for the advice. I'll pull the tubes from the SV head that i know are good and try them in the SV combo.
