M13 Global Noise Gate vs Pedal

Hello All:

 

Where does the Global Noise Gate fall in the M13 signal chain and what is your experience with it?  For me, it doesn't seem to be nearly as effective compared to setting it as one of the effect pedals.  When I set it as a pedal in a scene it does a good job of reducing amp hiss on my Marshall DSL40C Red Channel.  Then without changing anything, I'll turn off the pedal and enable the Global gate and it's minimal at best - still quite a bit of hiss.  I'm using the four cable method btw.

 

Since the DSL generates OD in the preamp I set the noise gate pedal in the effects loop before delays/reverb so it removes a lot of the amp hiss but doesn't affect my delays.  It seems as if the global gate is before the preamp though since there's still a lot of hiss when it's enabled.

 

Can anyone confirm - is this your experience as well?
