Clearing Controller Assignments

Hi Guys:

I have a Helix LT - getting confused with blocks having assigned all ready to onboard pedal

I have a Ernine Ball volume Pedal (Gilmour version) and a Mission EP-1 pedal - Ernie ball is before the Helix of course

If I clear - I want to take the complexity out of it and only use the external pedals one for volume and the Mission for a wah or Pitch shift

As seen here in Line6 directions if I clear controller assignments will this only clear the onboard wah and volume pedal permanently with no other ill effects ? meaning my snapshots are still untouched and I would only assign (learn each wah or pitch block now with my Mission pedal - thanks for your help

At the end it says clears wah and volume - so thinking I would just have to put snapshots buttons again which no biggie - just wondering if anyone has done this and what it effects

I would take the manual literally - pressing knob 2 clears ALL controllers, including any snapshot controller assignments. In fact, the 'Important' note says it ALSO removes the Wah and Vol assignments, which implies it is clearing other controller assignments as well. I think the full list of what would be affected is described in the manual as follows:

Helix provides a wide variety of tools for controlling your tone during a performance. The most obvious one is the built-in expression pedal (often assigned to wah or volume), but you may also assign footswitches to toggle between two values of a given parameter or parameters, control a parameter from an external MIDI device, or the volume and tone knobs on a James Tyler Variax or Variax Standard guitar. You can even have parameters instantly change when selecting different snapshots within a preset.
If a controller has been assigned to a parameter, the value appears white and in brackets:

So any controller assignment indicated by a white and bracketed display would be cleared. Of course, a quick way to test this would be to do it on one preset and see what happens. I haven't done that but it seems like a straight forward thing for you to do.

Hmm interesting I just noticed the onboard pedal act as a on and off - that would work -    so onboard rock it to toe for on  -  and heel back for off then I use my mission for wah - that works

Mission is right next to onbaord pedal so convenient to rock helix pedal either on or off - then I would assume I can just copy that wah to any other preset and it will act the same - sound right ?

One problem I used to run into using the onboard pedal and toe switch on a Pod HD500 - in rocking the pedal to the toe position to activate one desired FX (e.g. wah) you simultaneously are increasing to max level the currently assigned FX (e.g. Vol). So while you may be playing at a good level with the currently assigned Vol pedal at the middle position you want to activate the Wah FX. To do so you rock the pedal to the toe position to push the switch, meaning your Vol level increases to the max setting. You may or may not like the volume level change.

I have the Helix Rack/Control which has no onboard pedal. I use two external pedals, neither of them with a toe switch. I leave the Vol FX on at all times and use one pedal to control its sweep. I assign the Wah FX to a footswitch and use that to turn it on/off as desired and use the other pedal to control the Wah sweep.

Created a ticket - toe switch doesnt work on the Helix pedal - ridiculously hard to press and doesnt switch between volume or wah anyway - asked how to turn it off completely as I have external exp pedal and volume pedal

Right now its to confusing - on board pedal is doing something different than external ones - yes played with settings to work between all the pedals but still wonky and especially with different presets getting out of control

If I was depending on just the factory pedal I would not be happy terrible design - should not have to put so much pressure on switching back and forth - that said its not working anyway :(

Yeah, I ran into that problem too, and then again on the HX Stomp with the dual mission pedal. However, with the Stomp I went in and swapped the max and min values, so that when you pushed the pedal down it lowered the volume on expression one, and when I lifted it it increased the volume. Then the expression two was just a standard wah.  This way when I stepped forward I was returning my settings to their base volume.

Did the HD500 have that ability?  Is there a better way to do it on the HX line?  I don't know, but it works great for me.

Tons of people seem to do fine with it. I have no problem with the Firehawk's pedal and it's largely the same design. Is your just defective?  One test that I've found works is pressing the toe switch with your finger. If you can't get it to work that way then there's probably something wrong with it.

Tried with hand no go - must be faulty no wonder I am frustrated- so thought I would remove my Ernie Ball volume pedal from beginning of chain and use Helix pedal for volume only and Mission for wah or pitch whammy - seems to be much easier now to get around - I can live with it now - less confusing

So exp 1 is volume (Helix on board pedal) - exp 2 is whammy effects (Mission external pedal)

Its easier now to keep it simple - now just have to play in helix edit to make sure exp 1 and exp 2 are set properly in each preset

Now I can keep track of whats what an extra volume pedal was the confusing part - guess I have an Ernie Ball pedal for sale - to bad I liked it but not really needed now - rather spend time playing then messing around :) thanks Guys
