I just helped a friend out Saturday with a brand spanking new HD500X his wife bought him for Christmas.

He plugged it in and started playing around with the patches, but he wanted to try some of my custom patches I had emailed him.   I have to admit, the initial setup is daunting, and I forgot how difficult it can be for a new user.  First off, his HD500x came new from the factory with the version 1 firmware.  I would have assumed that a device who's software hadn't changed in 4 years would be manufactured with the latest firmware.   Nope.

Yea, it's in the owners manual.  But it's a bit overwhelming.

1. Download and install the following software from https://line6.com/software/index.html for the POD HD500X.

a. Drivers

b. HD500x Edit

c. Line 6 Monkey

d. Line 6 License Manager

2. Run Line 6 Monkey and update to the most recent firmware for you HD500x if you haven't already done that.

3. Run License Manager, and activate your HD500x and anything else that you can activate.

4. Then you should see in License Manager the other model packs that you are entitled too.  (At least recently, Line 6 has been giving away the model packs)

Now you should be able to import patches from customtone or friends.   Open up HD500X Edit an drag/drop them onto the patches in the banks where you want them.  You can also go to File Import to open up and existing patch you saved or downloaded.  Make sure you save your patches as you work on them to your computer.

Hope you enjoy your HD500x

That's great that you forgot. But a new user (who isn't being guided by his experienced friend) needs to read the OM.

Otherwise they come back asking why their Windows 98, Chromebook, or Android phone isn't working. Or they plug into a usb hub, or they install drivers with the device plugged in (which is only relevant if this is one of those devices that needs to be unplugged while installing, I don't remember).

All of that is explained in the OM.

Also explained in the OM - The license manager isn't needed unless you need the license manager (those "model pack deals" only apply to new units bought in the US.). And Monkey will download EDIT for you, no need to download it first/separately. Some people may need the Variax software, others do not. It's all in there.
