Lone_Poor_Boy
-USB connection works, as I can manipulate the Helix via HX Edit -But I could not get the Helix sound to come out my monitors (until I ran a cable from my Powercab into my UR44) I was selecting it as an input. I could see it. But I could never get it to play. In the end, it felt like there is one setting on the Helix I need to change. I did everything I could (I think) on the PC end. Edit: by monitors I mean, the Steinberg UR44 and JBL sound system I use with this PC. My normal Helix 'monitor' is a Powercab 112 Plus. rd2rk
Once you get your AES/EBU cable hooked up, you can send the XLR to the UR44 (which is where the monitors are connected?) and it'll work fine. It's possible to listen to your Helix via USB by setting the RECORDING device in Windows Sound Panel to Helix, and in PROPERTIES/LISTEN set it to Listen to this Device. However, you won't be using ASIO, you'll be using Windows drivers, and the latency will be worse than if you open a DAW using the Helix ASIO and take the Input of a track from Helix into the UR44 via XLR with the Track Monitor/Input Echo button ON. At 128samples that will give you roughly 12ms RT Latency. If you're listening to the Powercab and your Monitors at the same time, the Monitors will sound like an echo of the Powercab. Get your AES/EBU up and then use the XLR Outs to the UR44 UNLESS you want the fully processed sound (including the Powecab) in your mix to your DAW. That's how I do it. Echoed like an announcer at a Roller Derby event. Thanks a bunch! Best forum ever!
rd2rk
I just take the XLR from my Powercab to my AI. There's a couple of good reasons to take the XLR from Helix to the AI instead: 1) I use the Powercab "Speaker" mode primarily, no IRs. I take a split off the end of my path, add an IR, and send that to my FRFR112. That allows me to play around with "How will this preset sound through FOH?". I can swap IRs all I want in Helix without affecting the Powercab sound. 2) I can use BOTH the XLR from the Powercab (closest to actual Powercab sound) and the XLR from the Helix (with or without IRs) to record separate tracks. If I put the split BEFORE effects I can get a CLEAN track for re-amping. Put the split at the end of the signal path I can use the IRs in the Helix or any of the many thousands of IRs I have in the computer, and/or add post processing stuff. IOW - best of all worlds!
Lone_Poor_Boy
Thanks. Between this post and the other on USB I ended up switching the mic cable to the 'AES out' on the Helix and 'AES in' on the Powercab. This freed up both XLR outs on the Helix so I can take left and right into my audio interface!
marksale66
Hi Guys, I hope someone can help me with this. Yesterday, I had my USB connected Helix LT playing through my PC headphones and recording on Cakewalk without any issues. Today I turn on my PC, and I don't hear a thing. Input to the PC is good, as I can see the signal through my Youlean Level Meter, but no signal back through the headphones. I can hear all the computer sounds, Youtube and Spotify, but nothing from the Helix, or my Focusrite2i2, for that matter. I updated the Helix drivers and checked all the windows drivers. No change. Does anyone know what the issue could be?? Thanks in advance. Mark
rd2rk
Where are your HP connected? Is that the ASIO Device in Cakewalk?
