DMC-3XL to control HX Stomp?

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been asked before, I just can't figure out how to get my Disaster Area DMC-3XL to control my HX Stomp. I want to use it to scroll through presets, so I can leave the Stomp on the effects screen so I can turn off individual effects within the preset. This is my setup:

Also, is there any way to remove the tap tempo setting from the last switch, so I can use it for an effect?

In Global Settings>MIDI On Page 1 the first setting is MIDI Base Channel. By default it's set to 1. Since you've only the one device, leave/set it to Channel 1.

Set MIDI Thru to OFF. On Page 3 set USB MIDI ON (useful if you're controlling the Stomp using Automation in a DAW), set MIDI PC Tx and MIDI PC Rx to MIDI+USB.

In Global Settings>Footswitches set FS3 Function to Stomp 3. That changes FS3's function from Tap Tempo to Stomp.

I had a quick look at the Disaster Area DMC-3XL manual. It's pretty good, but you are going to have to READ it. Maybe several times. There's absolutely no point in anyone re-typing the manual here, and your question is basically "I can't get it to work", which, even if someone here has experience with it, doesn't give us much to go on. The most important thing is to get it set to control ONE device (default), and tell it what MIDI Channel the device is on (default, if any, is USUALLY Ch 1).

Sorry I can't be of more help, but the Disaster Area DMC-3XL is a complex device that packs a LOT of functions into it's 3 switches.

If you don't get a reply from someone here who has a DMC-3XL, you can reach a wider audience over on The Gear Page in the Digital and Modeling forum. Post with a specific title like you used here.

Welcome to the wonderful world of MIDI. Have FUN!

Thanks for the reply :)

I've managed to get it to work. But it only works one way, i.e. if I make preset changes on the Stomp, it doesn't feed back to the 3XL.

Is there any way to get this to work? Would a midi Y-cable do the trick?

I'd ask this at Disaster Area Support. If MIDI PC Tx and RX (transmit and receive) are set to MIDI, and the DMC is configured correctly it should work

From the maual:

MIDI Input: The MIDI output jack doubles as a MIDI input using a Disaster Area MIDI Y-cable (sold separately.) The MIDI input
allows the DMC Gen3 to accept incoming MIDI messages and merge them in with its own data stream.

-----------------

You could buy it and try it, but I'd ask first.

Thanks yea I saw that, but if that means I have to buy their expensive cable with another $35 shipping to UK, not sure if it's worth it :/
