regham
I am about to pull the trigger on a JTV-59 and am wondering if anyone had some tips on starting with and getting the most from the instrument.
fairleas
No strings thinner than 10s and just enjoy the sounds. If you are using it with other Line6 gear that has an L6 link socket get a proper Variax guitar lead, the one supplied is only for using with the computer and Workbench HD. A second battery is a good investment. Swap them over at about 40% charge for a long life. Other than that just play and have fun. The trickier advice is only needed when you try to integrate it into you Line6 rig with a Helix or Pod HD and then it is only about understanding all the opportunities now available to you. I’ve had mine since May and love it. Don’t forget to use the magnetic pu sounds. The raw JTV59 sounds pretty good.
Vettacon
Initially keep your expectations low in regards to having unbelievable strat and other guitar tones. As noted above just enjoy them and their differences. The real fun begins when you incorporate different tunings and patches by others. Checkout the Roland V-guitar forum for the Variax and the Line6 Market Place. Glenn Dulane and Jeff Husky come to mind as having good patches.
