gerryCol
HI All When I plug my usb into my computer to use HX edit. The ground loop/hum is tremendously loud. I literally have my master output at the end of my block maxxed out just to compensate for it. And it's almost even. I should not have to resort to using the knobs on the actual device to do all my editing copying and pasting and changing parameters but right now I have no choice. As soon as I plug my USB cable into my HX Stomp which is plugged into my mixing board, the ground loop and or ground hum ( I don't even know what you call it ) is soooo loud, it's louder than my acoustic guitar which is fine once I unplug the USB cable. So this is what I have tried. I have used 2 different computers Various usb cable Various outlets Ground lifts, Nothing works Any ideas. Thanks All
rd2rk
Are you hearing a 60 cycle hum or a high pitched kind of a squeal?
gerryCol
It's not high pitched at all, it's like a rumbling, crackling sound. It's not consistent either. It's always there but, I'm not sure how to explain it. Not the typical ground hum. I have 2 usb ports on the front of my computer. Three ports on the back and 3 on my new ASROCK motherboard. They all have it. I'm stumped.
gerryCol
OK it HAS to be the HX Stomp. Just some more info. I just disconnected every USB device from my computer including my audio interface. The Noise is still there. I tried plugging the computer into another computer that was not only off but had no wires or power connected whatsoever. Just the dead box and the noise is still there. I turned the Stomp off and even disconnect the power supply and the noise is still there. This must be the problem. I had this USB port serviced 6 months ago (Through Sweetwater) and I was told it passed all the tests. I heard the noise but didn't realize how bad it was until a week ago. I was so glad to have the unit back and since the file transfers worked and I was able to copy my presets back and forth between my HX Native and HX Edit I was cool. Now I am not. If this USB port needs to be "grounded" how can I do it. I don't have the time to send it back out right now . Any advice would be helpful. rd2rk
Contact your sales rep at Sweetwater. Explain your circumstances. If it's still in their 2 year warranty period, request a replacement. I would think that your sales rep at Sweetwater might rather replace the unit than have to explain to L6 (a not insignificant vendor) why they can't do a simple job like repair a USB port! If that doesn't work, contact Line6 Customer Support. Send them copies of whatever Sweetwater sent you when they did the job. Since (if) Sweetwater blew the repair, L6 may just send you a replacement unit if you explain your dire circumstances. Especially if it's still in their 1 year warranty period. WHATEVER YOU DECIDE, DO NOT ATTEMPT THE REPAIR YOURSELF unless you're willing to throw the unit away if you blow it.
gerryCol
I figured it out. unbelievable. Turns out when I lifted the ground on my Mackie DL 1608. The ground hum went away on the stereo channel the hx stomp was using. Wow, I was lucky to find that. I was using 12 of the 16 channels and the only two that had issues were ONLY the two the HX Stomp was using and ONLY when the USB port was plugged in. I need a beer. LOL I did contact tech support, gonna have to contact them again. LOL Thanks for your help Gerry C
