kalaleo
Hi, I had the helix for a bit more than a month and, after playing for weeks with the sounds, I added it to my pedalboard... just to encounter a big problem. I play with spillover turned on as I have a looper in one of the FX loops (stereo1-2) and I switch between presets to record with different sounds into it. Here is the problem: every time that I switch to some of the patches that I created the machine freezes and crashes. This happens if I press the switches in the helix itself and also if I use the HX edit to switch between them. I have the last update installed, I even tried factory reset but solved nothing. The patches that I'm using work while I'm building them up, but they cause the freeze once I leave them and then go back to them. They are on one single path, of course. The problem goes away if I turn off the spillover, but I need it. I'm attaching one of my presets, in case it helps (FX loop 4 is used for an external octaver and FX loop 1-2 is for the looper) Any help? Thank you in advance VANTA Bass.hlx
DunedinDragon
That doesn't surprise me at all since what's happening with spillover is it's using the second DSP unit to load and initialize the new preset while your original preset is continuing to process the looper. Once the new preset is loaded and becomes active it's has no idea what that external looper is currently doing and the looper has no idea it's part of a new preset, so the confusion is probably what crashes the system. I would imagine it would work fine if the looper was first stopped then you selected the new preset.
kalaleo
unfortunately not, it freezes even if the looper is off or if I unplug the looper completely. the looper just goes through the fx loop, I don't see how this would break the system. the crash happens even if I just switch to that preset with no audio signal at all. phil_m
It’s not listed anywhere, but I wouldn’t be surprised if true spillover didn’t work with the effects loops. What it’s doing is leaving the one processor open so it loads the new presets while the original one fades out. There wouldn’t really be a way for it to deal with having the effects loops active on both processors at once... So open a support ticket and ask the question, but I kind of expect the answer will be, “you can’t do that”.
kalaleo
yeha that's what I thought, although I gotta say it's pretty misleading considering the patch notes. I bought the helix with the plan to do this when the last update was announced, and now I can't use it in my setup. I opened the ticket, but if it just can't be done I hope to be able to send it back and get my money back... it's a marvelous machine, but I need that function to work. disappointing :/

I just tried this with my Helix Rack, and it worked fine. I created two presets, each with the FX Loop 3/4 block, and turned on Spillover Mode. When I changed presets, it worked fine. There does seem to be a slight click, I imagine that’s inevitable since the loop is transitioning from one processor to the other, but it didn’t lock up.
