afterburner1277
Is there anyone out here that is using a Spider V 120 with a Helix floor? I am awaiting the arrival of my new Helix and I am considering using the 1/8 inch AUX out from Spider V 120 to 1/4" in/out of helix. Then either USB or XLR to Presonus 26c into Studio One 5 pro. Has anyone ventured in this direction? Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks all.
gtrman100
I've tried it. The frequency response of the Spider V's aren't particularly flat, so the sound is pretty colored. It does work however, but I don't consider it an ideal way to amplify the Helix. But I tweaked my presets in the Helix to my studio monitors. Try it, you might think it sounds ok.
afterburner1277
Thank you for the tip. I am using Klipsch R51-PM monitors with Studio One and Presonus 26c connected to my computer. I am so new to this, so that any advice would be excellent. I use my setup to learn guitar, record song ideas, and record myself playing along to songs. I took a 35-year hiatus from playing and trying to recreate the sounds of my favorite guitarists. I usually play the guitar amped by the Spider and use Studio One to play songs through my R51's. I could connect the Helix to the R51's by USB, but don't you think shoving my guitar and the song playback through the R51's would be too much? As I said before, I am pretty much a newbie at this, and if you could elaborate on the "tweaked my presets to my studio monitors," I would so appreciate it. I expect my Helix to ship in March, so I am reading up on the manual to gain some insight before I jump in. Thanks again for your help! bobcoss
Here are a couple of other ways you can connect the Helix to your Spider V: 1. Connect the 1/4 Left (mono) to the input of your S5. If you use the amp and cab/IR in the Helix, then select a user patch on the S5 that has no amp or cabinet selected. You can do the opposite and bypass amp/cab/ir blocks, and have the patch on the S5 do the amp and cab simulation. Both should yield decent results. I use an HX Effects into my 240hc and I get good results. I've never bothered to hook up my helix to directly though. 2. Take the stereo headphone outputs from your Helix to the Auxiliary input on the S5. That has worked nicely for me on my 240hc.
afterburner1277
Thank all of you for the replies. I wound up purchasing the Powercab112 "Active" and it sounds wonderful. The 112 Active fits my needs perfectly. The S5 goes on Reverb soon :-).
