jamie241290
Hello! I am trying to control my Helix floor with a Harley Benton FLX8 Pro loop switcher so that I can control my Helix via midi commands and simultaneously switch multiple analogue pedals on/off. The FLX8 has Midi out and can send PC CC & CC+CC The device speaks to Helix using PC commands to switch between setlists but I cannot get the unit to cycle through snapshots using CC commands. Nothing happens basically. After looking at the L6 Helix manual I can see that snap shot commands are engaged using CC69 commands, I am unsure whether I am able to do this on the FLX 8 Pro. Last resort would be purchasing a looper with Midi out but it's pricey Can any help me out here?
zappazapper
Your Helix floor has 4 loops that are probably more flexible than anything your loop switcher can do. And honestly, if I was going to use a loop switcher with a Helix, I would want to control everything with the Helix, not the other way around. But again, I would investigate just using the Helix. rd2rk
To select a Snapshot you need to send CC#69 plus a value of 0 (Snapshot 1) to 7 (Snapshot 8). Use a regular CC message , not a Toggling CC.
rd2rk
A high end dedicated Loop Switcher has at least two Main Loops (Input to Output), and effects can be placed in multiple sub loops, which can be assigned in any order within the main loops, and the configurations saved to memory slots, which can then be recalled via MIDI from Helix with CommandCenter. If you use InstantCommands, each time you load a Preset and subsequently when you load a Snapshot within that preset, the InstantCommands for that Snapshot are sent - the Default Snapshot when the Preset is loaded and the others when called. Since you can place the two (up to four on the full Helix) Loops from your Loop Switcher anywhere in a Preset and toggle them On/Off, it makes for a very powerful system. His loop switcher doesn't have a MIDI input. It took skimming the entire manual for his switcher to remind me that such a thing exists. Very limited possibilities. What's the point of having memories for configurations if you can't call them with MIDI? I guess I was fooled by the "PRO" in the product name. ANYHOW... for the OP - You'll need to RTM for the details, but it looks like the Parameter C1 (or C2) is the CC#, N1 (or N2) is the Value. C1=69 + N1=3 would call Snapshot 2. Ya, before I got my LT, I was looking into doing a "plugins with an amp" kind of thing and thought one of these loop switchers would be a way to do it, and I came upon these devices. I think they're intended more for the guys who have MIDI-capable pedals that need something to control them. Doesn't make sense to me, but I'm not in the music gear manufacturing industry so I can't really make a case for not including MIDI input capabilities. To be fair, I have yet to read a thread on this forum where someone is saying 4 loops isn't enough and they need a device that adds 8 more loops controlled by MIDI. I guess there's a market for it. I bought a Helix to ELIMINATE all the pedals - the ultimate all-in-one. But there's lots of guys (from my observations while hanging out on TGP) who just HAVE to have this that or the other external pedal, or pedals, and they end up with a Helix surrounded by pedals. For those guys, I can see the attraction. If I was going to go that way, I'd definitely want the switcher that allowed me to put whatever combination I wanted in whatever order. Ever watch TPS (That Pedal Show)? It's really cool how they configure a dozen pedals and amps to work in any combination imaginable with the press of a switch. If I had that kind of stuff at my disposal.....I'd NEVER actually PLAY guitar...... :-)
zappazapper
I'm not going to badmouth the OP and what he wants to do. It's not what I would do, but I'll advise him as best that I can on how to do it. IMHO he hasn't got the right gear to do what he wants to do. That's all. If he's got 8 pedals he wants to use ON TOP of what the Helix has to offer, then there are devices that will allow him to do that, but the one he's got isn't it. Maybe if it had a MIDI input. But it doesn't.
