SakoHelix
Hello, I’ve seen demos Demonstrating Wah patches automatically assigned to Exp1 and Volume patches automatically assigned to Exp2. Although for me the Wah does not get assigned to either Exp. Also the Volume patches are auto-assigned to Exp 1 and will not assign to Exp 2 even when manually assigning it. The only way to get the Wah patch to function on any Exp is to first add the patch to the chain, then assign it to a foot switch, then turn it on, then assign it to Exp 1 through the manual switch assignment in the main menu. There are 2 main problems this issue creates, 1) the only way to activate the wah is to keep the patch on an assignable foot switch which does not seem right and takes up a spot I need for other patches. 2) Wah and Volume both only function on Exp1 which messes up the wah when the volume drops with the pitch control. I’ve even tried assigning the volume with the wah turned off to try to at least turn off the volume patches when the wah is activated but unfortunately Exp 1 does not behave the same way as toggling (2) patches on a single foot switch. I’ve tried to manually assign either the Wah or the Volume to Exp 2 but neither will assign. It’s like Exp 2 is locked out for some reason. I am able to assign either or both patches to Exp 1. Question 1: Why is the Wah not automatically being assigned to an Exp thus requiring a foot switch to turn only on/off but not provide any control? Question 2: Why is volume automatically being assigned to Exp 1 when I’ve seen demos instructing users that volume should automatically assign to Exp 2 freeing up Exp 1 for Wah’s? Question 3: Why are neither Volume or Wah patches manually assignable to Exp 2? Help is greatly appreciated!
rd2rk
It helps when you ask questions if you specify which device you're using - Rack, Floor, LT, HXS, HXSXL, HXFX. That said, on my Floor it always assigns WAH to EXP1/Toe and Volume to Exp2/Toe. It works the same way on LT. You can reverse the settings manually, I think, though I can't think of a reason you'd want to. On my HXS it assigns WAH to EXP1/FS5 and Volume to EXP2/FS5. FS5 works like the Toe Switch on Floor and LT, toggles WAH/Volume. Get an external two button FS to use FS5 (Moskey Dual switch is cheap and works great). Or get a Mission pedal with Toe Switch built for use with L6 devices. I forget the model#. Occasionally, the BYPASS assignment gets out of sync with the actual device BYPASS condition (always user error). For instance, you select Exp1 and you see the POSITION Parameter changing as you operate the pedal, but the device assigned to Exp1 remains bypassed. If that happens, just manually turn the affected device ON/OFF as required. I suspect that all of the other devices that do not have built-in Exp pedals work the same way as the Stomp. DL the manual for your device if I didn't cover it here. There are Global Settings for how the Exp pedals function. For instance, on the HXS, for the above automatic assigns to work correctly, FS5 FUNCTION needs to be set to "Stomp 5". There may be other settings required. I've never had the problem you're seeing, so it's possible I set all those things two years ago and don't remember doing it! Nobody likes to hear it, but, RTM! If you've followed the directions in the manual and the Exp pedals still won't auto-assign. perform a Factory Reset.
SakoHelix
Hi rd2rk, Thanks for your quick response. I am a Helix Floor user. I read in some other forums that the invisible or virtual "clicker" from EXP 1 to 2 on the Floor does not work well on carpet. Mine is on carpet and thick padding so I am going to set it on a hard surface and maybe it will switch for me. It's possible the wah WAS assigning to exp 1 and I never knew it because of the switching issue. Sounds like I might be a candidate for an extension expression pedal because I def do not always want volume at 100% just to turn on the wah. Thanks again! rd2rk
True about the carpet thing. I picked up a 12x24" shelf from Home Depot to put mine on. In HX Edit, in the "Edit" pane at the lower right, if you click on "Bypass/Controller Assign", it displays all of the assignments.

Heat dispersion is another good reason for not placing your device directly on the carpet. Imho, airflow underneath it helps prevent overheating even if the air vents are on the side of the device.
