salazarben
I've been trying to update my HX Stomp for months but it always freezes when I update to 3.01 I've reset my Stomp and started the updates from 2.80 right up to 2.92 and it always gets stuck on 3.01 I have a 2012 MacBook running Catalina, I have all the newest versions of Line 6 Updater and HX Edit. What am I doing wrong?
SaschaFranck
Have you tried an offline update (you'd have to download the appropriate flash files and point the Line 6 Updater to them)? Are you connecting straight to the Macbook or through a USB hub? The latter isn't recommended. Did you check another USB cable?

What am I doing wrong? I keep saying that I will stop doing this, but here we go - one more time. There is no need to keep going back to earlier versions - you should be able to update directly to the latest version - 3.11 Firstly go to the "DOWNLOADS" menu at the top of this page and from "-ALL HARDWARE-" select HX STOMP then go to the "-ALL SOFTWARE-" menu item and select HX EDIT, now select Mac OSX from under the "-ALL OS-" tab, the click “GO”. From the next page you can select HX Edit 3.11 for your HX Stomp. Then you will also need the Firmware 3.11.0 Flash Memory, so repeat the earlier steps but from the software select “Flash Memory”. Once more repeat the earlier steps to find the Line 6 Updater version 1.23 - you will need this too. Download all these items to your computer and note where they are, (your DOWNLOAD folder is most likely). A word of warning - if you are using Firefox to download and you have previously downloaded the same items, it is not unknown for it to incorrectly open the older version, so be aware that you have the proper versions. Then: Remove all the previously installed Line 6 software from your computer and then restart your computer. Now run the HX Edit installer, this should now install the latest drivers for your system. Quit the installer and restart your computer once more. Make sure to turn off the power to your HX Stomp. Unplug the USB cable from the computer and HX Stomp. Disconnect your computer from the internet and ensure that no other audio functions, or background applications are running. In fact do not have anything running that may interfere with the install process - do not allow your Mac to enter sleep mode, screensaver etc. Ensure that HX Edit is definitely closed and that you have your HX Stomp reconnected to your Mac by USB cable (do not use a hub) then hold down “Page >” while turning the power on. This will put your Stomp into Update/Safe Boot Mode ready to reflash the firmware - You may see a black screen on your hardware, but keep going. Now, launch the Line 6 Updater Utility and select "Offline Mode". Your HX Stomp and the current firmware version should now show up in the window, click on the dark green coloured band and you should now have the option to select a local file - point it at the Flash Memory file you downloaded and let it get on with the update. When it concludes you need to perform a Factory Reset. When it completes you can launch the new HX Edit v.3.11 software and you should be good to go. Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: I have just spotted that you are using Chrome. I’m not sure if that has any significance to how your downloads are functioning, but I would suggest that you use Safari for this task as I know that works correctly.

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong! Hmm… well that usually works, so if you have followed the instructions I posted then I really can do no more, other than suggest the usual factory reset procedure. Find those here: https://helixhelp.com/tips-and-guides/universal/reset-options I have had a trawl through previous threads and the only thing that I found that is similar is in this post. As I recall he contacted Customer Support and the retailer to get a solution. I really cannot understand why you have waited so long before trying to resolve this. Your warranty may have expired, but your best chance to find a fix now is to raise a ticket with support, then report back on how it progresses. Hope this helps/makes sense. salazarben
I followed your steps I bought it used from a friend. This is how it’s been since I got it. I’ll do a factory reset again, try a different USB port and then if that doesn’t work try a different computer. Thanks for the help

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong! Did you uninstall everything first as @datacommando indicated? If not, you could be invoking an earlier or broken version of an app or driver. Trying alternate USB ports and USB cables as @SaschaFranck recommended has resulted in successful updates for countless users so that would be one item high on my list before my next reinstall attempt. Make sure you don't have any unnecessary SD cards mounted, flash drives, or other peripherals connected that might interfere with connectivity or cause conflicts. Unplug everything but your USB cable from the Stomp(expression pedal, guitar cable, etc.). When all else fails, using another computer, as you indicated for your next step, is definitely an advisable way to proceed. You may even find that if the update using another computer succeeds in getting you up to 3.11 on the HX Stomp, that subsequent firmware upgrades may be able to execute properly on the computer that wasn't working previously.
